Unable to import an old .mbox

I have a collection of old Mail messages saved as a ".mbox" and tried to import them into Mail, but I keep getting an Error message telling me "No valid mbox files were found".
The only thing that has changed is I originally saved the .mbox from my old Powerbook G4, and now i am using a Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo. Does anyone know what is wrong. I am going through Mail - Import - Other - Select .mbox, but it keeps giving me the error message.
These are valid Mail messages.

I select the folder which is a ".mbox"
For clarification, inside of the parent .mbox folder, are other nested .mbox folders, each of which contain a "Messages" folder and a file called "Info.plist". Inside of the "Messages" folder are multiple mail files with the identifiers .emix.
I do as you say. I select the parent folder called .mbox but keep getting the error message.
I have tried other combinations (eg selecting the .mbox's contained within the parent .mbox), but I still get the error message.
The only thing that works so far is if I select an individual .emix file, and drag it onto my Mail application icon in the dock, then it opens in Mail, but as I have hundreds of messages in the .mbox, it's not an effective way of importing them.
I hope this clarifies it. Any ideas?

  • I am unable to import my favorites folder from an old harddrive onto the new harddrive

I recently changed hard drives moving to a larger hard drive. Before doing so, I exported my favorites from Firefox and they were saved on a folder called FAVORITES on a portable hard drive. Now when I try to import these favorites I am unable to import the whole folder at once because Firefox seems to be looking for HTML files not a folder to import. When I drill down into the subfolders of the FAVORITES I had saved, there are files there titles INTERNET SHORTCUTS which appear to be the actual old bookmarks. Please help.

Did you use one of these to export the Firefox bookmarks?
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Backup
    * Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Export HTML
Sounds that you are referring to the IE Favorites and in that case you need to use IE to get access to those favorites by copying them to the IE Favorites folder and exporting them to an HTML file.

  • Unable to import old AB files- SL

    Hello,
Just upgraded to SL from Tiger. Did a full backup (not with Time Machine as it wasn't included with Tiger) onto an external drive. ( I used SuperDuper if that helps any)
I can see all my old AB files on the backup drive (looked in my home Library/app supp/addbk and also found the Metadata folder in /Caches)
When I tried to import my old data into SL, all my old AB files are greyed out and I can't select them or any folder associated with them in order to import them into Snow Leopard.
Things I've tried: I took the entire Address Book folder from my backup and used it to replace my Snow Leopard folder of the same name and location. No good. No errors either, just ignores the data.
    Help?

    Woot!
Seems that the drive has a quirk in that it needs to be triggered during startup to boot.
I had used the "option key" to select the drive which didn't work. When I went into "System Preferences" and "Startup Disk", selecting the backup and rebooting it worked!
Sigh. It's illogical quirks like this that drove me to Mac's in the first place -Windoze is rife with them!
Oh well, this is the first real quirk I've run into, guess I shouldn't complain.
    Thanks for all the help!

  • Unable to import Tiger mailboxes to a OS10.3.9 computer

I couldn't import all mails I did create with a macbook I was lended, to my imac 10.3.9 OS computer.
In order to do so I did save the folder "mail" from the macbook, OS10.4.7, to a CD. I was so surprised when I was unable to import it to my own iMac, 10.3.9. In fact, it import the folder but NO MAIL is in there.
I would like to know if it is possible to upgrade mail.app without upgrading my computer to 10.4.x.
And also if it is possible to recover my mails without upgrading my "old" iMac. Maybe opening my mails in a Tiger OS, and then exporting them in a way could be opened by 10.3.9.

The data format used to store mail changed in Mail 2.x. The new version can import Mail 1.x mailboxes (sort of), but Mail 1.x knows nothing about the new *.emlx format used by Mail 2.x.
You could have exported your mail in standard mbox format doing File > Save As and choosing Raw Message Source as the data format. Alternatively, you may use something like emlx to mbox Converter or Emailchemy to convert the *.emlx files to standard mbox format. Mailboxes in standard mbox format can be imported in Mail doing File > Import Mailboxes and choosing Other / Standard mbox as the data format.

  • DATAIMP-ERR-1124: Unable to import table "S_CS_ANSWR_LANG"

    Hi all,
hopefully can someone here help me. I can not manage to make the Database Configuration successfully til now (already 2 months working on this, because I can't get help in any forum most of the time).
After creating tablespaces and running the grantusr.sql I run the Database Configuration Wizard. It stops on importing Siebel seed data (transl) and it gives me the following error in the log file data_prim_lang:

    drop tablespace siebelindex including contents
    and datafiles cascade constraints;
Can someone confirm me, if this can cause the error?. I am not an Oracle specialist.
I would really appreciate if somebody helps me. I am itrying to do this since months on Windows. Installed already the Oracle Client as well, Database connection works.
What should I do in this case if the Wizard doesn't run anymore because of this error?...I wouldn't like to install and reinstall what I already installed (Siebel Gateway, Siebel Enterprise, Siebel DB, etc. it's a lot of work and stress. Please help me :-(.

    I suggest you the following:
    1. recreate your tablespaces to make sure there is no previous data imported or tables created.
    2. rerun grantusr.sql
    3. make a backup of all master_*.ucf files under siebsrvr/bin folder
    4. delete all master_*.ucf files under siebsrvr/bin folder
    5. make a backup of the siebsrvr/log/install folder.
    6. remove the siebsrvr/log/install folder.
    7. launch the db config wizard and check if it works now.
I suspect there is some old parameter being used from your previous tablespaces.
If above is not helpful, provide the contents of the log file generated when process failed and upgwiz.log.

  • Am unable to import or play music from an audio CD

Am unable to import or play music from an audio CD. All works fine on the old iMac 10.4.11
I think I've checked preferences. Should work. What am I doing wrong? What haven't I done? Thanks!

    =Troubleshooting CD ripping issues=
The easiest thing to check is if it is just this CD.  Try another one.  If others work, then it is likely the CD.
Try an alternative ripper such as XLD or Max.  Even though you may not want that as the long-term solution it will at least indicate whether the problem is with iTunes or something else.
X Lossless Decoder: Lossless audio decoder for Mac OS X - http://tmkk.pv.land.to/xld/index_e.html
    http://sbooth.org/Max/
If other CDs and rippers do not work, it could be the drive itself, or the part of the computer running the hardware. For the latter some have found a SMC reset to work.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Apple Portables: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
If you think it is the drive, you can try a cleaning disc (about $10 from a computer store or media store) to get rid of dust.  I haven't had much success with these, though usually I am running some older machine on which I can expect a drive to die after 5 years of use.
If this is a CD burning issue, try a different brand of media.

If you're really desperate and none of the above work, you could look at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3635433 - tips on possibly repairing an old CD drive  If you have to go to this extent you're probably in a place where you just want to think about getting a new drive.

  • Why is Mail unable to import existing messages after upgrade to Tiger?

After upgarading to Tiger, I opened Mail and was informed that all existing mail messages needed to be imported in the new version. Everything started out fine until 'sent' messages were being imported. The time for the import went from a few minutes to 14+ hours and the count remained stuck at 1,634. I cancelled the import and tried it again but each time the sticking point is at 1,634 messages

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken. Here’s an example of the most common variant of this problem and how to proceed in those cases:
Just upgraded, Most of my old Inbox is gone!
Your problem, however, is different in that you don’t even get past an incomplete conversion. If Mail stalls during the conversion process, you may try to identify the mailboxes that Mail is choking on, quit Mail, move those mailboxes out of ~/Library/Mail/ (e.g. to the Destkop), and trash any Envelope Index-named files you may see in ~/Library/Mail/, so that Mail re-creates the index and tries to import the remaining mailboxes again, then manually import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
    <hr>
Alternatively, you may want to set up Mail from scratch and manually import your mail back afterwards. This would allow you to use Mail normally while solving the problem of importing the old mail as you see fit:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    5. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    6. Do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the *.mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the *.mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so you must choose the *.mbox folders that contain them in that case.
Note also that some of the mailboxes now on the Desktop may have already been partially converted to the new *.emlx format during the previous (failed) attempt to convert them in place. If you tell Mail 2.x to import as Mail for Mac OS X a mailbox that already has a Messages folder, Mail will simply ignore the Mail 1.x files present there. If the mailbox was successfully converted to the new format, that’s fine, but if the conversion was incomplete, that’s not what you want.
As a result of doing all the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Problem one: You are running out of disk space on your machine. You need to solve this problem first: OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Problem Two: It’s quite likely that running on an overcrowded disk has caused damage to the Library. Once you have made space on your disk either restore from your back up or Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • IPhoto 9.2 unable to import

I recently bought the iphone 4S and subsequently upgraded to OS Lion and iPhoto 9.2 so I could use iCloud, but iPhoto is pinwheeling on me and unable to import photos.  I've read through a lot of similar threads but haven't been able to fix it.  I made another user account and was able to upload pictures with that iphoto.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • I am unable to import pictures from my iphone to my computer.  Can anyone help?

I am unable to import pics.

It sounds like you are using an application to import. You can do it manually.
Start > Computer (on the right) > scroll to the bottom and you will see your iPhone under Portable Devices > Open it and you will see a Drive, open that and there will be a DCIM folder. That is where your photos will be (There may be other folders each holding photos).

  • Unable to import video frompanasonic VDR-D105 DVD video camera to imovie HD

Trying to import my video from my dvd camera but imovie can not find camera. When I connect the firewire the camera locates DVD player software and allows me to play it on my computer, but not able to import to imovie. DVD Player allows my to clip my video but does not allow me to transfer of save it on my computer.
If I'm unable to import, Is there a work around to get my video in imovie, say quicktime?
I am using imovie HD 6.0.3.

    Hi S
    1. DVD-Cameras are for playback - not to be edited from.
iMovie, FinalCut Express and Pro works with miniDV tape Cameras
This course DVD and hard disk Cameras compact info to medium BUT in
a destructive way. You can't get full quality back to be edited.
miniDV also compacts to tape BUT Non-destructive = full quality to Mac.
    2. Does Your Camera really have FireWire. Most probably You are using
the USB-cable that was delivered with Your Camera. FW is buy extra.
Best solution - though sour. Change Camera
If this isn't an option You'll have to back convert to streaming DV that iMovie
    and FCE/P understands.
    - Converting programs like may be:
MPEG Streamclip converts from mpeg-1 to whatever you like (within reason).
    QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component
    or
via analog out on Camera via an A/D-box to FW to Mac.
Non is a good way though.

  • Unable to import movie files from iphoto '08 into imovie HD

I have recently bought a 2008 macbook (2.2 GHz) and have recently downloaded imovie HD in addition to owning iLife '08 due to its extra capabilities. I have found that I am unable to import any of my movie files from my iphoto library folder as it seems to need to open the actual iphoto application before the files can be accessed. In addition, when not using any specific program it would be nice to be able to access my photo/video files within the iphoto folder without iphoto automatically opening as the default viewer.
    Any ideas??!! Thanks.

lucky you.. .avi is just a container, no 'format'/codec .. I can show you dozends of .avis, which will NOT import into iMHD6, due to being playback-codecs, not convertable by the underlying Quicktime engine into separte, editable audio+video streams ..
.. If you convert to .dv, the size just blows up.
dv is 13GB/h and a codec meant for editing; e.g. it stores every frame (video=30 frams/sec) of a recording, as mpegs usually doesn't do so.. = your Mac has to estimate content, when converting and 'recovering' the content = lossy process.
iMHD6 is a dv-editor; the mpeg4 feature is only a toy, to spice up iSight recordings.. for sure, the QTengine can convert a lot, but too much conversion (from one lossy codec, e.g. divx, into another, e.g. mp4) means a (dramatic) loss of pic quality..
    my 5€ cents ..

  • I am unable to import new photos in iPhoto 11. Perhaps I should just reinstall from iLife disk? Will it affect my photos in any way?

    Hello,
I have iPhoto 11 installed on my MacBook. I am now unable to import new photos using USB or by plugging the camera directly into the laptop. Never had that probem before with this camera. Perhaps just reinstall iPhoto from the iLife disk?

    Hello Terence,
Okay I will try reformating the camera's card. However all is well when I export photos to my iMac at home or onto my iPad.
If your suggestion does not work should I try reinstalling iPhoto from the iLife disk? If so, how do I go about doing that or is there a website somewhere explaining this?
