Unable to Import mp3 into iTunes

Hey Apple - Howe about a little help...!
I'm running iTunes 11.0.4. I am not able to see new CDs, in mp3 format, that I have added to my hard drive.  Lots of folks are having this problem.  This renders my Apple iPod, and to some extent my iPad, much useless.  What do I need to do to get this fixed?
Totally Disgusted with Apple!

Celt,
Are you talking about an MP3 CD?  If so..
Close iTunes
Copy the MP3 files from the CD to your hard drive
Remove the CD
Open iTunes and add the MP3 files to your iTunes library using File > Add Folder to Library

  • Can't import mp3s into itunes

Hi, I was just importing videos and mp3s into itunes, and it suddenly won't let me import any mp3s into itunes.
What can I do to fix it?
    thanks

hmmmm. does there seem to be any size limit on the number of files you can transfer?
(say, by way of experiment, does a single file add when dragging and dropping, or if you use add file to library?)

  • Unable to import videos into iTunes library

For the past few week I have been unable to import videos from my computer into the iTunes library using either the drag and drop or import file methods. I am using the latest version of iTunes and a second generation iPod touch.
I have tried using file formats: wmv, av1, mpeg & mp.4 but all refuse to load into the library. To test I have changed a file name of a video that was successfully loaded into the library a while ago and this file also refuses to load. I have also used 'Smart FLV Converter' to convert the files to 'MP4 for iPod' and this converted file also cannot be imported. All of the files play OK from the desktop.
Any suggestions as to how to overcomne this problem would be appreciated

I don't know if this helps but my iTunes was crashing everytime I tried to add a file located in the "My videos" folder. I moved the files to "My Music" Folder and had no problems. Seems like a simple/stupid solution but it worked for me. I still don't know why it wasn't allowing me to do it in the first place.

  • Help with importing mp3s into iTunes

Hi, I'm running the newest version of iTunes and having problems loading mp3s into the library in correct order. I'm not sure how the mp3s i want to import are tagged, but when i import them, iTunes arranges them automatically by song name (alphabetically) and loses the track order.
    1) how do i import them keeping the same track order (in future)?
    2) how can i re-order the existing ones i've imported into the library already as efficiently as possible (without going into the 'get info' option and adding track numbers for each of the separate tracks (i have several thousand like this - they are mainly live concerts)?
Many thanks for any help, its much appreciated!

You don’t say quite enough to be sure if I am being helpful or how much you know, but …
Start in the library window with browse on and select an album. (Click on the little eye, upper right of screen if you don’t see the browser).
You can then use “Get info” to inspect some of your imported tracks for that album. If you click on the info tab, you should see a field for track number. If you have a correct track number in this field, you should be able to sort by track number.
If you don’t see a Track # column to sort on, you and bring it into view by right clicking on the header row (Name, Artist, Album etc) and then checking Track number.
You can sort on any column by clicking the header.
I ripped all my CDs with Free Realplayer and imported the tracks into iTunes when I got an iPod – all the track numbers were already correct.

  • Cannot Import MP3s into iTunes 9

I have a server in my house where I keep all my music. (WHS since Apple doesn't currently offer anything of this nature.) I tried to drag a standard MP3 file from my server over Samba to iTunes 9 and it just fails silently. iTunes doesn't freeze or anything. It just doesn't addd the song. We have two identical MacBooks that are both exhibiting the same problem.
    The song doesn't import after...
    - restarting iTunes.
    - restarting the computer.
    - updating to OS 10.6.1.
    - dragging it to my local computer, then dragging it to iTunes.
    - altering permissions on the file to 777.
    - using the File | Add to Library method to import.
The song plays just fine in Quicktime.
The song played fine in iTunes 8 and imported fine in iTunes 8.
Any clue what is going on here or how to get information about the problem out of iTunes?

It must be something to do with some of the files, because I was able to import a different CD from the same server. I am still looking for a way to get a reason out of iTunes as to why it won't import the file.
You will not get a reason out of iTunes, since it is designed to "error silently" when you try to add a file that it finds incompatible.
If the MP3s play fine in other players but not in iTunes, then you have met the problem of iTunes being strict/finicky/incompetent (pick your own interpretation) about slight variations in MP3 formats. The problem can usually be corrected by treating the files with a 3rd party tag clean-up program such as MP3 Validator.

  • Unable to Import Artwork into iTunes 9

Greetings from Cape Town. I am unable to use Coverflow, because I am unable to import Artwork. i Tunes gives error message when I try to get Artwork. Please help

Since neither iTunes nor Windows Media Player can import a CD, that would, as I said, suggest that it's a problem with the CD driver or the drive itself. The latter is less likely since your husband says that the drive can play a CD, just not import, but it's not impossible. I'd suggest you start by checking Dell's support site and see if they have any information on the problem or have any drivers for the CD drive that are more current and if so try those. One other thing you could try is to create a new user account in Windows, log in with that account, and try importing a CD. If it still fails. then it would definitely suggest a system-wide problem, either with hardware drivers or with Windows.
The last thing I can think of to suggest is to look for any sort of other audio burning software such as Nero. If there is any such, you can try uninstalling it and see if that makes any difference.
If none of that helps, you may want to talk to Dell technical support and see if they have any additional suggestions.
    Good luck.

  • Unable to play/import mp3 into iTunes

    Hi All,
This is what I am trying to do. I have a CD that needs to be transferred to my iPad. I figured I need to have the music in iTunes and then I can copy over. I used my Windows 7 laptop to rip the CD and put the mp3 songs on a shared network drive. From my MBA (mavericks, itunes 11.1.3) I can see the music. I am unable to play these mp3 songs using default iTunes player. When I try to drag the songs plus sign shows up but nothing gets copied. I have tried creating empty playlist but nothing goes in there. I also tried playing the songs using quick time and all play fine.
Is there anything else I am missing?
    Thanks
    Neeraj

If anyone comes across this, I am expericing the same thing on iTunes 11.1.5. If I first copy the mp3 to the my system I can add or play it without issues, but if I try from the NFS volume it silently fails.
If I check the logs I see the following entry, which seems related, but it doesn't happen every time:
5/4/14 01:57:04.999 iTunes[47723]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_WRITE] delete: "No such file or directory" - 0x2

  • OMG - what  apalava - importing MP3s into ITunes

Now, I don't really want to use ITunes at all. My music library is in FLAC (which isn't supported) but to be able to burn MP3s for the car I've mirrored the library in MP3 format. The ITunes is directed to this as its media library.
When I first opened up ITunes and did this it insisted on checking every file (14000 tracks) for gapless settings - no way out it seemed and this took the best part of 2 days !
Even then, when I started to buold a playlist for burning I came to an abrupt halt, the music folder only contained my music up to C (approx, by artist). The rest of the files were not ther (but present on the drive where they are stored).
So tried to re-import (Add to Library) and this time ITunes has started to process Album Artwork for all my music - at the same lightning (NOT) speed.
    What ????
All I want to do is get Itunes to read the music library so I can burn a few CDs.
Am I doing something wrong ?
    Agaggahahagah

Hmmm - searching the ol' weberoony it seems I'm FAR from the only one having similar issues. Namely that ITunes insists on these gapless playback and album art checks when it first imports a new library.
If I try and open ITunes I immediately get the pinwheel of death (aka beachball) and am unable to exit or even force quit. This pinwheel will run until those checks are completed. It's at that stage (after 2 days) that I was able to access the media library via ITunes but then found only about an eigth of my libary was in there (up to C and a few odds and sods which seemed out of order)..
I just have to turn the IMac off. And I don't recall any options in Preferences about gapless playback and album art but I can't get there to check at the moment (pinwheel . . . . ).
I can play, and see, all my music via Songbird quite happily. I can see both the FLAC and MP3 libraries, and contents, on my hard disk (it's an external Vortexbox server) using Finder.
I only wanted to use ITunes as it seemed to offer a useful way to create playlists and burn them to CD (Songbird does not have this capability).

  • Importing MP3 into Itunes

When I move my MP3 files to itunes they will appear in the Library but when I double click to play a song on my computer, it gives me the following message:
"The song "......." could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it? "
Unless I return the CD I imported, I cannot play the song and probably will not either on my Ipod.
What could possible be my problem. Can anybody help with this??Thanks

Thank you so much for your help. Now I have a bigger problem because of the failed upgrade to itunes5.0. My itunes disappeared because of the mess this 5.0 upgrade did to my computer in general and to my 4.9itunes in particular. I only recovered on my desktop via a system restore. However when I click icon on the desktop, nothing happens and it gives me a message to restore itunes. I first tried to uninstall itunes using the uninstall software in Control Panel but it won't let me uninstall! Why is that?.My question is how can I install itunes as the message prompt me when I cannot even uninstall the old or modified itunes in my computer? Is there a way around this? Can anyone help me out? I really appreciate it very much.

  • Import Files into iTunes: Why not mp3?

I created a simple workflow and saved it as a Finder plug-in. Two questions:
    1) Anyone know why iTunes allows (under +Add to Library+) the import of mp3 files, but when creating an Automator workflow using the +Import Files into iTunes+, the mp3 option is not supported. In other words, you have to use a different Automator function like +Add Songs to Playlist+. This works too, but it takes a long time because iTunes has to convert each file to AAC. The +Add to Library+ function in iTunes is wicked fast, and I don't care what format the files are in.
    2) After creating a Finder plug-in and wanting to delete it, where does it live? I can't find it. Spotlight can't find it. I just want to remove it.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, red. It seems that +Import Audio Files+ supports mp3, but the description on the +Import Files into iTunes+ doesn't specifically include mp3. I suppose a quick test will reveal. The original reason for the question is that the Automator workflow seems to force a conversion of each mp3 file -- even when choosing the mp3 option in +Import Audio Files+ -- which obviously slows down the process.
When from iTunes I choose Add to Library, navigate to the target folder and click OK, iTunes completes the 80-or-so files in no time.
Thanks for the tip on where to find the plug-in. I deleted it. The Automator desktop apps seem to work better.

  • Audio CD burning error- I opted for importing songs into iTunes as MP3

    Hi,
Before I started importing songs into iTunes, I chose int eh iTunes preferences to import all songs as MP3, as I wanted the option of being able to burn CDs to play on my car MP3 player.
When I tried to burn a CD, I got an error message that these songs could not be burnt onto the CD. This had the option where I could see all the errors and the list was of all the songs that I was trying to burn.
BTW, I created a new playlist, dragged the required songs to this playlist from the library and pressed the burn disc option.
What am I doing wrong? Could it be that the drive is faulty?

First of all, how long is the total time of all songs? If it is more than 80 minutes, you can't record to the CD as an audio CD. If that is the case, and you say you have an MP3 cd player in your car... you might want to try burning to the disc as an MP3 CD. Go to iTunes preferences, then click "Advanced," then "Burning" and you'll see an option for "MP3 CD." Click that, and then when you burn the disc, you can put as many songs as will fit onto the disc.
Also, rewritable CDs aren't any better... as a matter of fact, a lot of audio CD players can't read them. A regular CD-R should be fine, even one rated at 40x speed.

Possibly. Media Go supports a variety of music formats, some of which can be imported in to iTunes and then synced on to an iPhone, however some of its formats cannot be imported in to iTunes.
See http://mediago.sony.com/enu/supported-file-formats/ for a list of formats supported by Media Go. iTunes for Windows supports MP3, AAC, WAV, and can import and convert WMA files as well. However iTunes does not support ATRAC, or FLAC.
Furthermore, if some of your music has been bought from an Internet music store it might be procted by DRM. If so it cannot be imported in to iTunes.
To do the importing you would either drag the music files in to iTunes, or tell iTunes to open them. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1347
