Unable to import MP3s sometimes

I have GB4 with the latest updates (I guess that makes it GB 4.1 then) and I've noticed that I can't import MP3s sometimes. I can't figure out why, other than to conclude that it's a bug.
I can actually import any MP3 ok, be it from the filesystem or or from the browser within GB. It shows a progress bar, and also another saying "converting" I think, before adding the track. After it is imported, I can play it and such. I can also look inside of the bundle and see that there is a .aif version of the MP3 in the Media directory. So, it all sounds good so far.
Well, the problem starts as soon as I Save the project. As soon as I do that, the corresponding .aif file is deleted from inside the media directory, in the project's bundle. However, if I keep working, the track continues to play fine. The problem only is noticeable if I close the project, or quit, and try to open it again. When I do that, sure enough, GB complains that it can't find the corresponding .AIF file, and prompts with a dialog asking if I want to "skip" or "search"
Choosing either option of course, makes no difference. the end result is that the project opens, and there is a "file not found" label on the segment pertaining to that imported track. So, that in turn means when you try and play, that track won't be heard, as it has no file associated with it.
The odd thing, is that some MP3 files do seem to import ok. Oh, and before you ask, they all are mp3's with the lowercase .mp3 extension. I can always tell if it does, because the progress bar is much shorter, and as far as I can tell, it's actually skipping the "conversion" step. How a good file is represented in the media folder is that you have the actual MP3 file added, along with another file with the same name, but with a .oww extension. I don't know what this file is for. However, if a file is imported in this manner, when I Save the project, sure enough, both the MP3 and the .oww file are not erased from the media directory. And of course, if I reopen the project, it is able to open that track successfully.
So, I'm at a loss. I know that all imported files must be 44 Khz files, and as far as I can tell, both the ones that seem to work and fail, are 44 KHz files. I thinkt the one that did work correcly did have a higher bit rate than some others, at 160 Kib/s, but I doubt that the bit rate makes any difference.
I haven't tried converting the ones that don't "stick" by converting to AIF manually and importing the AIF to see if it sticks, but I would guess it would. I think all hte AACs that I've tried importing always work, so as far as I know so far, it's only a problem with MP3 files.
Another thing worth noting, I'm using a network level account, that isn't an admin account. Also, my home directory resides on an NFS share, that's mounted at boot time, but a network share shouldn't matter. But I was thinking that maybe there's a bug that may be exacerbated when using this feature as a non-admin account.
So, GB devs/Apple support, if you're reading this, I urge you to test your products with non-admin users and network accounts, such as mine. I have been using OSX in this configuration since 10.0, and over the years I have seen software that has made some bad assumptions of applications location, home directory location, HFS filesystem, etc. So, I urge you to test your software with these configurations as well, as people like me do have these setups, however rare they may be.

One thing I forgot to add. When importing an MP3 that won't work, I do see lines logged in console.log that say "Unsupported MP3 file" So, apparently that means that some MP3 files are unsupported, but really if that were the case, why would it even allow me to import it in the first place? If it were really unsupported, shouldn't it produce a dialog saying such, and cancel the import process? As it is, it's far worse, since it's importing it, so you think it's compatible. Then next time you open the project you realize it silently deleted that import.

  • BUG: Unable to Import MP3 Files in Flash CS6

I am unable to import mp3 files of any kind in Flash CS6. Tried import to stage, import to library, Drag and Drop... no dice. Receiving a generic error message. Tried closing out and restarting, etc. - still not working.
    Anyone else having this issue?

    Yep that worked!
The "update" in the library would not update the content but the drag and drop worked fine.
Note: The path in the update dialog shows a relative path and after the drag and drop it shows an absolute path to the file
I also had an issue with the audio being changed from stream to event.

  • FAQ: Unable to import MP3 files in Flash Professional CS6

If you are unable to import mp3 files in Flash Professional CS6, ensure that you update QuickTime(7.7.1) and iTune(10.5.3.3) versions. This is necessary to import .mp3 files of bitrates higher than 192kbps.

  • Unable to Import Mp3

    I've tried many things.
    I've changed the Mp3 ID, I've tried many different mp3s. I've
tried importing them into new documents as well as existing
documents. I have even changed the bitrate. I have gone through 16
to 128 but mp3s simply will not import. I have tried dragging mp3s
onto the stage. It just will not work.
WAVs will import, but sometimes they play at double the
    speed.
One or two mp3s will import on a rare occasion.
I used to be able to import mp3s before.
I have not recently changed any hardware.
The message is : "One or more files were not imported because
    there were problems reading them"

    Two possibilities:
    1. If the file name is longer than 31 characters, import will fail. Try shortening the name if this is the case.
    2. Sometimes Logic seems to have trouble converting the MP3 to AIFF successfully on import. When it does, I use a different program to convert first (Peak in my case, though iTunes would probably do the job too), then import the AIFF into Logic.

  • Unable to import MP3's to my iPhone 5S

I'm having trouble importing MP3s to my iPhone 5S through iTunes. iTunes is updated to 12.0.1 and my iPhone is fully updated as well.
The other problem I've seemed to run into is that any MP3 on my phone after being connected to my mac gets it's Album Artwork deleted.
Hoping for a quick fix but I'm not known for my optimism.

Well when I drag and drop, I get the "Preparing to update" message
and then the files are greyed out on my phone with these circles next to them. I'll wait and wait and they'll never un-grey or update.
I've tried restarting which has helped in the past, using different USB cords, etc to no luck. My only thought is that these are MP3s since I have no problem buying music on my phone

  • Unable to import mp3 files

    Hi,
I'm trying to import as an audio file an mp3, encoded at 320 kbps. Logic reads it but suddenly tells me that the file it's not readable, I've tried with other mp3 files, encoded at 192 but nothing changes. Any suggestion?
    Thanks in advance,
    Best Regards.

  • Unable to import MP3 from Media pane.

When I drag an MP3 from the Media pane, a window indicates importing the file. After the import, I do not see the MP3 file. It just disappears. When I import the sound effects, they work fine. Any suggestions?

you're sure it is mp3? or is mp3 just your generic word for "music file" - iM doesn't accept every of the zillions of flavors of music-compressors flying through the net (e.g. ogg)
did you create it by importing an audioCD with iTunes?
or is it "some" import from "somewhere"?
can you play the mp3 by selecting in the media-bin and hitting "play"?
are you able to open and play mp3 with QTplayer?
probably needs some kind of conversion......

  • Unable to import mp3 and m4a files

I have mp3 and m4a files that I'm trying to import into iTunes (and then add to my iPad). When I try to add them, I see a very quick "Processing Album Artwork" and then nothing happens.
The files work on the PSP I'm getting them from, on VLC on the Mac, and on Google Music Beta. (In fact, Google Music automatically uploaded them from the iTunes library.)
Searching for advice found years-old threads on various Mac support sites suggesting that I repair the files using "MP3 Scan+Repair," but that utility didn't find anything wrong with the files. I tried rebuilding a few of the files anyway, but to no avail.
The files are not DRMed; they were originally ripped from CDs I own, mostly using iTunes. (This was done at least 2-3 years ago.)

My problem seems to have randomly resolved itself. I went and imported a couple of files on a new playlist, and they appeared with tags and everything. Then I tried importing the rest just by dragging the folder into "Music," and it appeared perfectly fine.
So, I don't think this was the issue since the tags worked fine today, but I'm good now!

  • Unable to Import mp3 into iTunes

Hey Apple - Howe about a little help...!
I'm running iTunes 11.0.4. I am not able to see new CDs, in mp3 format, that I have added to my hard drive.  Lots of folks are having this problem.  This renders my Apple iPod, and to some extent my iPad, much useless.  What do I need to do to get this fixed?
    Totally Disgusted with Apple!

    Celt,
Are you talking about an MP3 CD?  If so..
    Close iTunes
Copy the MP3 files from the CD to your hard drive
    Remove the CD
Open iTunes and add the MP3 files to your iTunes library using File > Add Folder to Library

  • Unable to import mp3 audiobooks

It is my first time to use an audiobook for my iPhone. I have downloaded an audiobook but it is in mp3 format. I tried to add it on my iTunes Audiobooks list but it won't. I have converted it to AAC format but it still won't go to the Audiobooks section. What am I doing wrong? I have iTunes 9.0.3.15 on a Windows Vista computer for use with an iPhone 3G. Please help. Thanks a lot.

Get Info on the audiobook in iTunes, go to the Options tab, and under Media Kind select Audiobook.
    That should do it.

  • GarageBand 11 - my track won't let me select, as I did with GB '08. Also unable to change tempo and pitch of imported MP3 songs.

I have a Mac desk top. I think my operating system is IOSx 6. Snow leopard.  II used to have GarageBand 08 and was able to select my imported MP3 audio, as well as change the tempo and pitch of a song. GarageBand 11 is not allowing me to do any of that. I am at my wits and end and thinking about buying an expensive editing program since I have spent hours researching, to no avail.  I used to use the AU pitch option in '08 version but I can't even see options to edit MASTER TRACK, in order to select AU PITCH from the drop down menu.

  • Unable to import Vob vedio file in to my project

I am unable to import my VOB vedio file in to my Adobe Premier pro cs6.Please help me on this how can i edit .VOB file

vob files are files from DVD and sometimes they are copyrighted and have meta data in them that makes it hard to use.. cause the manufacturer of that DVD tried to add data to the file so people can't abuse the copyright. Not all vob files have just video in them.. some have other stuff in them ... like menus and weird stuff that is used by the DVD to display chapters and special features and so on.. So basically not all VOB files are equal .. they are not all the same.. so your problem could be any number of problems...
If you provide more info .. like maybe someone can help out a bit... but it may be hard to help solve the problem even WITH more info... depending where you got the file and what's inside it.  sorry that isnt very helpful right off the bat , but vob files can be weird.  Another problem with some vob files is that not all of them are written really 'correctly'... even though it is a standardized thing some programs that make vob files dont do a very good job of making them... so .. maybe more info from you could help.. but then again.. it might not lead to a happy ending for you...
    but good luck
