Unable to import music using home sharing?

My family and I used to have a shared iTunes account on an HP desktop computer. Over the years we have created our own accounts and since I just got the iPhone 4s I thought I should make my own. I have iTunes 10 and Windows Vista (I am using an HP laptop). I authorized my computer and created a home sharing account so I could transfer my music on to my laptop. I read the directions on the Apple website and followed all the directions until it says "Click the import button in the lower right hand corner." There's one small problem...there's no import button! I've also tried copy and paste, and that doesn't work either. Please help me and thank you

  • Transfering Music using Home Sharing with iTunes 9.2.1

I used home sharing on many occasions in earlier versions of iTunes just for playing music. The shared libraries had a small house icon next to them. Everything was fine and dandy until I decided to step it up a bit, by attempting to transfer music from my main library (on my iMac with iTunes 9.2.1) to my PC laptop (running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with iTunes 9.2.1). A cryptic error message was shown when i tried to drag a song from my shared iMac library to my hard drive library (on my pc), following the icon for the library changing to a blue stack of music notes. I then tried the reverse, attempting, on my imac, to change the home sharing settings so that my library would sync with my pc's library, after which the icon changed to the blue stack of music notes. In both cases, the "Settings..." button and "Import" buttons disappeared as shown in the following graphic:
    http://km.support.apple.com/library/APPLE/APPLECAREALLGEOS/HT3819/HT38195-en.png
Both computers now will play each other's library music but will not allow for me to change home sharing settings nor transfer the music.
If anyone knows how to rectify this issue or can better explain why iTunes is acting this way, please respond to this post. Your responses will be greatly appreciated.
    Alexander

in order for home sharing to work
    (a) iTunes on all machines must be authorized for the same iTunes store account
    (b) all machines must be on the same network
    (c) all machines must have access to the internet.

  • Can't import songs using home sharing

Just bought a new macbook pro laptop, and I can't import my music library from my iMac using home sharing.
The library shows up as shared, but I can't drag any music into the library on my laptop.
Help would be greatly appreciated because I'm extremely frustrated.

I am curious as well. I also just bought a MacBook Air to use in addition to my iMac. I just made some purchases on iTunes and homesharing only allows you to stream, not physically sync the media back and forth, which is what I want.
This is going to be really annoying..

  • Import library using home sharing

I can my other computers library, however i am not getting the 'settings' button on the bottom right to allow me to import everything onto my new computer...HELLLPPPPPP
    Thank you.

To transfer your songs, don't use Home Sharing. It uses your network to transfer the songs, and it will be so slow (days or weeks to transfer 82 GB).
Instead, you can copy the whole iTunes library to an external disk and transfer it to your new iMac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751 This is much faster and useful, because you will transfer all your iTunes data from your old Mac, not only songs

  • IPad 3 adding music using home sharing

I have home sharing set up correctly between my computer, laptop and and iPad 3.
When I open my music in my iPad I can view the music from my laptop, but I don't see a way to add the music so its there when I'm not connected.
Im pretty sure its easy on the ipad 2. Is there a way on the iPad 3 to add the music from my laptop?

I think that you can only use it to share music to the iPad, but not to copy the music into the iPad's Music app.

  • I cannot import videos using home sharing

I followed the instructions for setting up home sharing on our laptops. One machine is using Windows XP, and the other is using Windows 7. Both have the latest updates for iTunes and both are authorized. I have turned off (and back on) home sharing, I have authorized and deauthorized and then re authorized both computers. I can see libraries on both machines. When I tried to import a video from his machine to mine, it told me that "this machine is not authorized" meaning mine. I am at a loss as to what I am not doing. I have tried to re authorize both machines and get a message box telling me the machine is authorized. Is this a problem in the newest version of iTunes?? I have no idea what to do next. I wanted to put movies on my iPad, and all of our compatible movies are on his machine. Can someone help me out?

  • How do I drag and drop files between computers when using Home Sharing in ITunes?

How can I drag music files between computers while using Home Sharing? An older version of ITunes had a Home Sharing icon in the column browser near the playlist so it was easy to drag and drop.

  • Error when using Home Sharing in iTunes 9

I'm constantly getting the following error when trying to add songs using the new Home Sharing in iTunes 9.

  • Save music from home sharing to iPad

How do I import music from home sharing to my iPad?????

You don't.  that is not what home share does.
You have to sync the music via itunes and the usb cable.
"With Home Sharing in iOS 4.3 or later, you can stream your entire iTunes library over your home Wi-Fi network from your Mac or PC right to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4557

  • When I use Home sharing, I can see the library I want to copy, but when I highlight the library, the import button does not show up. Also, it will not let me drop and drag. How do I get music from one computer to the other computer?

When I use Home Sharing, I can see the library I want to copy under Shared, but I can't get it save on the computer under the regular library. I go to edit and "select all" but there is no import button that is in the right hand corner. Also, it will not let me click and drag the music. How do I get it from one computer to the other?

Since both computers are connected via the network, you could simply copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from one computer to another via the network.
If both computers are running Windows, use the Easy File Transfer Utility built into Windows to move iTunes and all other user media/data.

  • Unable to drag and drop mp4 movies into itunes but the file will import and play using home sharing

Strange problem with my brothers MacBook.
The movie files were converted to mp4 format ready to be played on an iphone and I imported them into my iTunes on an iMac with no problems.
Files were also saved onto a flash drive which I passed on to my brother.
My brother was unable to import files by drag and drop and also by "add to library", we even copied and pasted files from the flash drive to the desktop but that also didn't work.
Using "home sharing the movies imported and played with no problems.
Any ideas why this is happening?

This appears to be a long-standing bug:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=634720
and the accepted workaround is stated in comment 11.
Oddly, it's possible to do the reverse, i.e. drag multiple eml files from Explorer to a TB folder.

  • How do I use home sharing between 2 PCs to transfer my itunes library music?

I have turned on homesharing on both my old and new computer but it won't transfer the music i have uploaded and downloaded to my new computer. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hey Louisebun,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
The following article outlines the steps of moving music to a new computer using Home Sharing. It is good to note that this option allows you to share music between multiple computers if you continue to use both, but it doesn't create a lasting backup. To create a lasting backup, use an external drive or CDs or DVDs.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
I've highlighted some of the key steps below:
    On your new computer:
    7. Click the Store menu and choose Authorize computer. Enter your Apple ID and password (that was listed in the Advanced menu in step three or used in step 5).
    8. Choose Advanced > Turn On Home Sharing from the menu bar.
    9. Select the Home Sharing icon on the left side of iTunes.
Note: Once Home Sharing is enabled, the Home Sharing option disappears from the left side of iTunes until a Home Share library is found from another computer.
    10. Once your new computer sees the Home Share from your old computer, click that Home Share on the left side of iTunes on your new computer.
    11. Select the content in the Home Share that you want to transfer to your iTunes library on your new computer, or choose Edit > Select All to choose all of it. Then, click the Import button in the bottom-right corner of iTunes.
    12. Wait for the content to finish transferring.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • How long does it take to import a library using home sharing?

I have about 82GB of music on an older iMac and want to import it permanently into the iTunes on a newer iMac but have never done this before.
Before I start, I'd like to know if I'm going to be tying up my computers for a week!
Should I go for the whole 4,000-plus songs at once, or should I try to plod through playlist by playlist and tell it each time not to import songs that may already be in the new computer.  (If I do that, will the song show up in the playlists anyway?)
How have other users approached this with large libraries and what has their experience been like?  I'm so glad there's a community here to share their experiences and help other Apple owners!
Thanks so much for any and all responses!

You can't use home sharing to put music on your mobile devices from your iTunes library, you will need to sync them.
