Unable to import photos to LR3 on Mac

I am trying to import photos from my compact flash disc (which I use in my camera) to Lightroom3 on my Mac. The files are .jpg files.  The message that I get is that the files cannot be read.  But I am able to import them to iPhoto, Photoshop Elements on my PC, etc.  I contacted support and chatted with three different people (all who were not able to provide any help).  I uninstalled Lightroom 3.6 and re-installed 3.5 - that didn't work.  So the next guy had me re-install 3.6 and update the Camera RAW version to 6.6, that didn't work.  The thrid person that I talked to wanted me to redo all of those steps again, but they didn't work the first time so now I am looking for help from other users who may have had a similar issue.  Any suggestions?

Often (too often), that message really means that the files could not be written. Bad message!
Anyway, it's often because you are somehow lacking write permission for the folder(s) into which you're trying to copy your images. Could you check that?

  • I am unable to import photos from iPhone to Mac.

I am unable to import photos from iPhone to Mac.  The most recently taken photos are not showing up on the screen ready to import as usual.  Any thoughts as to why?

Remember: we cannot see your machine. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS.  So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Basic things like :
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For instance: 'iPhoto won't export' is best explained by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • To import photos from Iphone to mac is a strange thing.

There are different ways to import the Iphone pictures to the mac but the result is a strange thing.
    1. way over the osx tool digital pictures. result with osx Lion 1.1 GB (with the osx Lion it is 3.8 GB with the same Iphone and pictures)
    2. way with Iphoto with both osx exactly the same size.
Can someone explain me this strange thing?
    cheers

    Hello ALWright17
Try using Image Capture to see if they will import using that program. If it does then you drag and drop on top of iPhoto. If they do not then there may be an issue with the photos. Alternatively you can email the pictures to yourself and then save them to your computer. Check out the articles below for importing and troubleshooting photos that

  • IPhoto suddenly quit while importing photos from camera unable to import photos from camera

iPhoto suddenly quit while importing photos from camera unable to import photos from camera that were imported before iPhoto quit. Photos are still on the camera however iPhoto only "sees" the photos that were not imported on this computer. I can connect to my other mac and see all the photos. This has happened before and I wanted to learn how to deal with this problem. Thanks Ed

I am using a MacBook Pro OS 10.9.2, iPhoto 9.5.1 connected via usb to a Canon G12. I have had this issue before when importing photos. I can work around by using my other Mac and download the photos. I believe that there maybe a setting on the Mac that prevents duplicating photo downloads that may be preventing me from seeing these photos stored in the camera memory although I can view them on the camera.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Problem one: You are running out of disk space on your machine. You need to solve this problem first: OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially. Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do. Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Problem Two: It’s quite likely that running on an overcrowded disk has caused damage to the Library. Once you have made space on your disk either restore from your back up or Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Upgrading iPhone 3GS to iOS4 unable to import photos to iPhoto

After upgrading my iPhone 3GS to iOS4, I am unable to import photos to iPhoto. Also, iPhone does not turn up in iPhoto. Unable to find other ways to import photos from iPhone. No problems importing before upgrade. Anyone with a god solution?

I too had troubles with iPhoto and the iPhone Photo app. They are solved for now. Problem description and action take are as follows.
Problem 1 - Got a new iPhone 4 and upgrade my wife's iPhone 3GS to iOS 4. For both phones, when I connected them to iTunes to sync and selected on the Photo tab to sync my entire iPhoto library, nothing synced to the iPhones.
Solution 1 - I opened iPhoto to ensure my photo collection was indeed there. I closed iPhoto and tried to sync the phones again. This time, the sync took place, taking a long time since the thumbnail photo collection had to be created.
Problem 2 - I knew the photos were on the phones since the sync was complete. On the new iPhone 4, I could see the photos when I selected events or faces or places. The albums tab was blank. On the 3GS, it still looked like there were no photos.
Solution 2 - I shut down the iPhones holding both home key and the power button. I waited a minutes and restarted. Upon restart, both Photo apps displayed my photo collections properly - at least for now.

  • Can't open recently imported photos in LR3

I can't open any of the recently imported photos in LR3? When I pull them up from my external hardrive it tells me the photo is allready imported and wont let me do it again. I can open older photo's just not recent ones. Please help.

Sounds like you are trying to Import the photos. As you have found out, this doesn't work if you have previously imported the photos.
Normally, you import the photos via File->Import once per photo (and ONCE only), and thereafter, when you want to work with or view these photos, you do NOT do an Import, you go straight to those photos in the Library Module. In this respect, Lightroom is very different than other photo editors you may have used in the past.

  • Since Apple's last Update on 6 June 2014, I have been unable to Import photos from any source. I receive a message saying, Importing photos but nothing happens. When I click on Stop Import, nothing happens. I must press the On/Off button to exit iPhoto.

Since Apples last update on 6 June 2014, I have been unable to Import photos from ANY source. When I attempt to do so, I receive the message "Import  Preparing to inmport..." I've waited 10 minutes but nothing happens. When I click on the icon, Stop Import, nothing happens. When I attempt to Close iPhoto i receive the message, "Photos are being imported to the photo library. Please wait for import to complete." When I click on OK, nothing happens. The only way I can exit iPhoto is to press the On/Off button.

After loading this file I was sucessful in importing photos from a web site, my camera memory card and a CD containing photos.
That is a good news.  We now know, that iPhoto is working as expected, when you are switching to a different library.
    But this is puzzling:
I then see a box with two Librarys listed, both have the same name except for the following and are listed as:
iPhoto Library.photolibrary but one has (default) after its name which is the one which is always displayed when I load iPhoto.
    Underneath the box is written:
    /Users/paulfkardian/Pictures/iPhoto Library.photolibrary
Underneath this are three boxes titled: Other Library    Create New    Choose
I highlighted the the File without the (default) after its name and clicked on Choose. A Library was loaded which had my photos (about 9,822) from about 7 months ago. Underneath the box is written diferently than the file always loaded and says:
    /Users/paulfkardian/Pictures (original)/iPhoto Library.photolibrary
You are having two "Pictures" folders in your Home folder, Pictures and Pictures (original)? And each has a different iPhoto library - one working correctly, and one not?  Do you remember, when this second "Pictures" folder has been created and what caused it?  Did you restore your Home folder from a backup some time ago?

  • I am unable to import photos to my computer from my iphone. I need help!

Everytime i try and import photos to my computer I get an error message on every single photo. It says "The following error occured while importing 'photoxyz.jpg': The exact error is unknown. Make a note of this error code, which might be useful if you seek additional help to resolve this problem: 80210005." I can then try again (which never works), or skip the file. Essentially I am unable to import any photos from my phone. With the iphone 4 i did this all of the time with no problem but now that I have the iphone 5 this is all that happens. How do I import my photos? I don't want to import every single photos on my phone, just the new ones since the last time I imported. Thanks!!

  • Can I import photos from iPad to Mac using WiFi?

I know I can import photos from the iPad to the Mac using the USB cable, and importing them into iPhoto.  But is it possible to do this without plugging in the iPad - i.e. with WiFi?  I couldn't find a way to make it work.
Better still, would it be possible to automatically 'sync' photos taken on the iPad to the Mac using iCloud, without also having photos from the Mac going back to the iPad?  My iPhoto archive is now quite large, and I don't want it on the iPad.
Or are there any other approaches?
I really want to be able to use the iPad to regularly "empty" my camera while travelling, and have the iPad transfer the pictures to my main photo archive (iPhoto on the Mac) whenever it gets a chance.  If this can happen automatically, that is best.  Manually initiating it via WiFi is next best.  Mnually initiating it via a USB cable is third best - still not difficult, but more steps.

    Paul Fryer wrote:
Can anybody confirm this one way or the other?
If you have 800 photos on the iPad in the Photo Stream, those 800 photos will appear in the Photo Stream in iPhoto. However, if you have 7000 photos in albums in iPhoto, they will not appear in the Photo Stream on the iPad unless you place the photos into the Photo Stream. Photo Stream is its own album in iPhoto and your already imported photos in iPhoto will not appear in there unless you add them to the photo stream.
Look at one of the WiFi photo transfer apps such as WiFi Transfer App. You can send the iPad photos to your Mac using Safari on the Mac and then Imprt them to iPhoto as you see fit. You cannot send the photos directly into iPhoto with these apps.

  • Import photos from macbook to mac destp

I need to import photos from my Mac Book to my Mac desktop

if you want to move your iphtoo library then Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.
If that guess is not what you want then please provide details so one can do other than guess

  • I have been using iphoto 09 and am now unable to import photos from my camera.  I get the message that they are being imported but after 10 minutes nothing has actually been imported.

I have just been trying to import photos from mine and my husbands cameras but nothing seems to be happening.  I get the message to wait while they are being imported but after 10-15 minutes, nothing has been uploaded.  I have always had updates downloaded when they become available and can't think what I may have done wrong.
I hope someone out there can give me some advice.  My mac is running Snow Leopard and I love it.

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Unable to import photo's to iphoto

When I go to import photos a list of files comes up with a message that iphoto is unable to import the files because they may be unrecognized file types or the files may not contain valid data, there are 27 of them. How can I delete these files? I have since taken some photos & they have imported fine mostly but some have joined the list. Is there anything I can do to stop this happening?

You're a whiz bd. The photo's didn't seem to want to download, either that or they were taking longer than I had patience for but they did delete on command. Thanks so much for your help - as you can see from my rather delayed answer I'm a bit busy but when I next take photo's I'll see if they download in image capture & let you know as well as any other poor souls looking for the answer to this problem.
Thanks again for your very valuable help, a big hug being sent your way!
