Unable to import videos into iTunes library

For the past few week I have been unable to import videos from my computer into the iTunes library using either the drag and drop or import file methods. I am using the latest version of iTunes and a second generation iPod touch.
I have tried using file formats: wmv, av1, mpeg & mp.4 but all refuse to load into the library. To test I have changed a file name of a video that was successfully loaded into the library a while ago and this file also refuses to load. I have also used 'Smart FLV Converter' to convert the files to 'MP4 for iPod' and this converted file also cannot be imported. All of the files play OK from the desktop.
Any suggestions as to how to overcomne this problem would be appreciated

I don't know if this helps but my iTunes was crashing everytime I tried to add a file located in the "My videos" folder. I moved the files to "My Music" Folder and had no problems. Seems like a simple/stupid solution but it worked for me. I still don't know why it wasn't allowing me to do it in the first place.

  • Please help me.  I cannot import videos into itunes library

I have read the manual's entries on doing this and nothing seems to be working. It won't let me import my own videos into the itunes library for me to convert to a file recognized by ipod. I have a 5th generation ipod. I am doing everything it tells me to do and still nothing. I have called technical support and they won't help me because I didn't purchase the videos through itunes. I have tried to click and drag the file and it won't let me do it even though the manual says that's what to do. when I look into the movies tab it is blank. When I put a dvd in my drive to copy to itunes library it doesn't even show up. I am going crazy and am about to return this if I can't get this figured out.

See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • Unable to add videos into itunes?

I am unable to add videos into itunes?
    pls advise.
    Rgds,
    Kesavan.R

We will need to know full details about your issue -  format of the videos, version of iTunes, and what exactly happens when you try to add them - before anyone can be of any help. If you're referrring to iTunes on your computer, you may be more likely to get a quick and useful suggestion if you ask the iTunes forum appropriate for your computer platform (Mac or Windows).

  • Unable to import videos into library

I'm using the iPhone 5 and want to add movies to it. My iTunes doesn't add videos into its library. Even though I go to File->Add file to library->select the movie, a beep sound plays and nothing happens. So I downloaded the Quick time player. But still the problem persists. I used Total Video Converter to convert the videos to the required format but still its not getting added to the library.
Am I supposed to download an extension to the iTunes to play videos or is there something else that I'm supposed to do?
    Please help me with this.

    Hi there op_srinath!
I have an article here that can help you sync the information from your computer into your iPhone using iTunes:
iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1351
The instructions in this article reference the iPod as the device being synced, but your iPhone can be synced in the exact same way. I also have an article that can help you with some frequently asked questions about video syncing that can help inform you about the process:
iTunes: Frequently asked questions about viewing and syncing videos
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2729
Lastly, if you need to transfer videos from your iPhone into your computer, you will want to reference the following article for instructions:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer

  • How to import video into iTunes?

This may be obvious to some but for the life of me I can't find out how to do it. Perhaps someone can give me a hand. The Apple documentation is incredibly vague about this topic.
I have some video files (in .wmv format, but I have a converter that can convert to other formats). I want to import them into iTunes so that I can play them on an iTouch. It shouldn't be rocket science but I can't find precise instructions on how to do it. I have the latest iTunes and OS 3.1.2 for the iTouch.
    Thanks for any help.

Well with some help from a co-worker and some experimentation I finally managed to load video onto iTunes. Apparently only files of the type .mp4 and .m4v (maybe .mov also?) will work. You have to open the "Movies" panel from the "Library" tab and then drag the files over there. Try dragging any other kinds of file and iTunes will just ignore you. Is it really so hard for Apple to describe that simple procedure in Help?

  • Cannot upload videos into itunes library!

sorry if this is the wrong place to post or something, but i'm in desperate need of help!
i can't seem to upload any of my own videos into itunes video library. i heard that i'm supposed to drag the file into the library but when i do that it just stays the same and nothing happens. i tried to reformat the video files to MPEG but it still doesn't work.
    Can someone please help me?
    PS. I'm using Ipod video

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Open Quicktime. Try to open the video through that. Does it open and play in Quicktime?
Also, right click on the video file. Go to properties. What is the file type/kind?
You will most likely need to use a 3rd Party Converter, as iTunes will only accept videos that are compatible with Quicktime.

  • Can't import songs into itunes library...

For some reason it isn't working. I took a couple of songs off my ipod via ephpod and i tried opening them using the import function in itunes. I open it, but the songs aren't added into the library at all. Maybe it might be the file format? Anyone have anyway to convert the songs into the accepted format?

    Yep,
I have been having the exact same problem now for over a year. First, it was like six hundred songs--wouldnt play on my ipod and then wouldnt add into my itunes library. It happened to correspond with an update of itunes and the ipod firmware. It has only gotten worse and now I am in fear of updating anything further. I have been looking for answers to this problem for a long time, if you happen to get an answer that works would you let me know about it too?
    Thanks!

  • Can't import videos to iTunes library...

I can't get videos into my iTunes library. I've done it once before, but my computer isn't letting me drag the file from the Movie folder on my computer to the library on iTunes.
Does it make a difference which format the movie is? Because it's .avi, so yeah. I know its got to be a certain format for it to be on the iPod, and you can just click the "convert to AAC" or whatever on the video, but I just can't get it into the library to convert it to the AAC.
      Windows XP

Sorry to bust in on this thread but am pretty good with computers but feel like a real idiot here.
I recently downloaded a video and converted it into mpeg-4 using videora which was done successfully. Now I opened Itunes and went onto library where all my songs are and clciked on 'file' and then 'add file to library' and double clicked on the video which said it was mpeg-4 and I cant find it in my library, nor is it listed when I go down and click on videos.
I hope I'm doing something really stupid and missing something. Can anyone help??
    Thanks

  • ITunes 7.3 - Can't import videos into itunes

I've been trying for a while to import some videos into my iTunes, trying various formats (mv4, mp4 and mov), but none will actually import. I've even tried moving one of my friends movies off a thumbdrive, but that didnt work either.
Can someone please help me? I have no idea how I can fix this, and there are some radiohead videos that I must have on my iPod.

I don't know much about Vista, but the first time I tried to import movies, I had to download a compressor. Grant it that I compressed the whole DVD, but still it worked from the finalized compressed version. Then just import, locate file, and open.

  • What's a good strategy plan to import CDs into itunes library

I have lots of CDs I'd like to import into my itunes library. What's a good strategy plan? Creating categories, playlist, etc will help?

When you rip each CD, make sure that all the tag info is correct, including titles, artist, album, and genre. Then, once the tracks are in the library, you can use the built-in iTunes capabilities for sorting.
There is no need to set up individual playlists per album; rather, use playlists for special lists or compilations that you make. When you are ready, learn how to use the smart playlist functionality, as it adds a lot of control and fun to your listening.

  • How to import videos into iTunes

Hello, we are new to this whole iPod world. We just bought the iPod 30gb that plays video. If we purchase a video from the music store, it works. But we have videos that were downloaded from another program that we would like to import into iTunes. When we select import file, and then chose the video file, the computer freezes. How do I fix this? Thank you in advance for any help possible.

    Hi there,
I'm from Canada and am looking for help in downloading videos to my 30GB video ipod. I seem to not be able to purchase videos because I live in Canada. When I enter my address and credit card info - it notices its from Canada and won't let me download anything. Not sure what to do - support is non-existent for itunes and Apple. Any ideas? I'll look into your problem as well. Perhaps we can help one another out. THank you. Any help is appreciated.

  • Putting videos into iTunes library

For some reason, my iTunes doesn't recognize .avi or other video files except for .mpg ones and it doesn't put them in the library. I have currently 3 video's, all .mpg. Can you help me please?

The problem is indeed that by default iTunes only supports videos that are MPEG4 or MOV. However, there is a tool available, VideoDrive, which allows you to add all current video formats (including AVI) WITHOUT reconversion. The tool simply adds a small pointer file in your iTunes library, pointing to your AVI file. Problem fixed! And you can keep your videos on any (external) drive you like.
The tool also adds cover art (so your videos appear with DVD covers in Cover flow in iTunes) and metadata info about your movies and TV Shows. I use it almost every day to add new content to iTunes (we don't have videos in the iTunes store over here)
The tool is available at www.aroona.net (only for Mac OS X)
