Hmmmm. This is definitely an odd occurrence because you should be able to control the ringtone volume via the side of the device. Now, I appreciate you trying a soft reset, so let's take it a step further. Next, given that this functionality should still work, I'd recommend trying safe mode http://vz.to/yAHjEJ to disable third party apps and allow you to isolate issues between software and potentially threatening apps (which you should remove if you can control volume again). Please let us know how that goes.

Apple, as I said, does not repair your iPhone. All hardware service issues are handled by replacing the unit. So they can't handle the home-button issue without also addressing the issue of the cracked screen, for which they'll almost certainly charge you. But you can make an appointment at an Apple Store or call Apple tech support and plead your case.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Search Bar : "Go button only appears when text in the bar"

With the new update they have made it so that the "Search" button in the "Search bar" only appears when there is text on it.
While probably a minor (in)convinence for most, it had become a browsing habit for me, to middle mouse click the search in an empty search to take me to "google.com" in a new tab (or whatever search engine was set).
I would like to know if its possible to tweak something in order to bring back the search button so it stays there.
I know there is easy workarounds for this (bookmark comes to mind), but having browsed like this for many years I would like to continue doing so if possible.

Hmm, it takes a little doing, but I think so.
When the bar is empty, the code that generates the little image of the arrow has a new attribute set, which is hidden="true". There is a corresponding style rule to suppress the arrow when hidden="true". You can use a custom style rule to override the built-in rules, and apply it to the interface using either:
* Stylish extension ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/])
* userChrome.css file ([http://kb.mozillazine.org/userChrome.css])
This is a rule you could use:

How can we make the Retake Quiz button only appear when user reenters the course?

In a Captivate 8 Quiz, we need to force the user to close the course (so attempts are captured by the LMS) from the Quiz Results page. The Retake Quiz button cannot show at this time. However, when the learner reenters the course from the LMS, the bookmarking brings the user to the Results page again. We need a Retake Quiz button to only show when the user reenters the course, not on Quiz completion. Disabling the bookmarking disables the reporting of attempts. Does anyone know a way to make that happen or a workaround?

The forward and back buttons in firefox 4 beta 7 dont work after trying to customize and the bookmarks button only shows when customizing

after installing firefox 4 beta 7 any customization of navigation bar breaks the forward and back a page buttons they stop working and and restoring the default buttons option it still doesn't work even in the safe mode and the text in menu buttons looks glassy

What I found was that anytime I installed one of the beta's, as soon as I tried to customize the bars and hit the "small icons" checkbox from customize that I would no longer be able to have the round shaped foward back buttons but only square (rectangle) small buttons.
To get those round ones back, but never again to the right of the "File - Edit - etc" bar, all I did was move all the buttons down to the navigation or another bar below as I have the space.
The problem still occurs that anytime I attempt to put them back up top beside the file etc options they go back to those small rectangle buttons :(

IPhone 4 blacks out, could not work with just pressing the home button and lock screen button, only worked when I plugged it in the charger

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPhone 5C will only charge when the phone is switched off I've tried multiple leads and still it will only charge when it's switched off, somebody has told me it's the battery? But I don't know what to do

yesterday my charger was working fine, all day long I got home and go to plug it in and it's not working, I let my phone die and it starts working like the battery symbol shows up but once the phone is on it stops working. I've tried a couple of leads but I know they aren't proper apple and it still doesn't work, my friend said I've probably fried the battery but I'm not sure, but I know since I got the phone the battery hasn't been all that good, it charges quickly but then also dies quickly, I really don't know what to do and I really need some help, should I get a new lead or replace my phone because I have insurance?

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
If nothiing above helped, restore the iPhone to factory settings > Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

Those needed files are not served by your iDisk. They are served using Apple servers and only work for .Mac (iDisk) accounts.

Any app to (temp) disable side buttons

When I'm watching something for example (Netflix) and I want to move the phone, I'd like to disable the side buttons leaving only the touch screen to re-enable the side buttons. Often when positioning the phone, I accidentally press the side buttons .....
Any ideas short of buying better co-ordinated hands?

Torch 9800 touch screen only works when slid open.

Hello everyone, this is my 1st post but I've been lurking the forum for some time. I'm running a Torch 9800 on AT&T right now on v6.0.0.600
This is what's happened with my phone: as the subject notes, my touch screen only seems to work when I slide open the phone.
What I've tried so far that doesn't work: rolling back software, rolling the software forward again, hard resets, soft resets, adjusting intervals for the touch screen.
The weird part is that I saw an older thread that had the exact opposite problem(touch screen only worked when the phone was slid closed). I have a level/ruler app for my phone and it's showing that the phone knows when it's tilted/angle/orientation. I've also closed the phone, opened it slightly (about the width of my thumb) and it stays horizontally oriented + I'm able to use the touch keyboard that way.
Anybody have a suggestion as to what I can try next to fix this? I haven't gone so far as to just go and get a 9810 yet, but i'm considering it.

Has it in anyway fallen or pressed hard at any point? It could be the belt, which would just need you to go with it to a certified repair center and get it secured.

ZTE Open C Accelerometer only works when phone is upside down?

I just received my new ZTE Open C and when I tried a few games, like Sketchbook Squad, for example, I found that the accelerometer control ONLY works if I hold my phone upside down.
Does anyone know if this may be an OS related issue relating to calibration, or maybe it's a defective device?

Can you please list *all* the apps that you are having problems with? Please specify which of those apps the accelerometer do not seem to work at all, and which of those apps the accelerometer only works when the phone is upside down. This information will help greatly in investigating this issue.
Please also let us know the Build ID of your ZTE Open C device. To find the Build ID, go into '''Settings''' > '''Device Information''' > '''More Information'''.

Remove all apps from multitasking bar. Double click Home button then tap and hold an icon and tap on little x on every app. Then reset. Hold down Home and Power button until Apple logo appears.

Why I am unable to adjust the ringer volume by the side buttons and there is no ringer with the Mute button OFF

When someone calls/texts there is no sound coming from the speaker.
The headphone jack works when I listen to the Ipod and the speaker works when I change the ringer volume through settings. So i know that the speaker does work

I heard that there may be a Skype issue than can control the speaker volume - so i deleted it but i still cannot get any sound from regular functions.
When I play the Ipod through the speaker with no headphones there is no option to change the volume and no sound.
If it works when i go through settings to set my ring volume, my ringtone plays - then why does it not work otherwise?

I have Iphone4s 16GB, IOS7.0.4 updates having a problem , that when i press + or - volume keys while my iphone is ringing my iphone 4s goes silent .
Whereas you know silent key is used to make the ringing phone silent. This button is working ok while only problem is my iphone goes silent while pressing + or - volume keys as these keys should increase / lower the ringing volume . These keys were ok working in IOS 6.
Where as these keys are also working ok in music player of iphone for IOS 7, the only problem is for ringing.

Script for Button 3 or using side buttons on Mighty Mouse for Button 3

Looks like the preferences for Mighty Mouse only allow the side "squeeze" buttons to be used for Button 4. I don't want to use the scroll ball for Button 3 because it keeps zooming when i do. Does anyone know how to write a script to configure the side buttons to be Button 3?

I think I'm having a similar problem. Lately, my side buttons have been activating seemingly on their own. I hear multiple clicking sounds. I know I can turn off the button, but I use USB Overdrive to activate page back in browsers and the Finder, so I can be surfing and be brought back several pages at once. Very irritating. It doesn't seem to be consistent either. I bought my latest iMac in June, so I the warranty should be in place, but I'm an hour and half from the nearest Apple store, making it somewhat inconvenient to have the mouse looked at.
