Unable to insert disc in CD drive

A lot of people have a problem where the drive won't accept the disc after inserting...well, this isn't the problem this time and my System Profiler is reading the drive. I can't even insert my disc to the point where the drive pulls it in! It feels like there is some kind of obstruction inside preventing me from pushing in a disc. I do not have any kids around that could have stuck something in there... so I don't know what's the problem. Anyone have any solutions?

I have been experiencing the same problem for about six months now. The only way I can get it to work is restart the computer with the disc resting in the drive against the obstruction. During reboot you can hear the drive make a mechanical noise, at that point insert the disc past the obstruction when it retracts. The obstruction is actually a safety mechanism to keep you from inserting a disc while one is already in the drive. As near as I can figure out the drive, system or what ever controls that, thinks there is a disc in there and extends the control arm preventing insertion of the disc. When a reboot occurs the arm is retracted for a split second (for diagnostic purposes?), allowing you to insert the disc. I don't know if this will work on your system but it's worth a shot. Good Luck.

  • CS2 - Purchased legal version - Please Insert Disc 2 into Drive

    Hello,
I am running Windows XP SP4.
I purchased my copy from someone who was selling out their old CS2 Premium version on Ebay. Came with all 6 discs and 2 backup CD's, 2 books, serial numbers, and some old coupons.
My old version was Illustrator 8.0, and I thought I got a nice price for the full CS2 package.
I had some initial trouble with my first cd/dvd drive spitting the CD back out and refusing to read it. I switched to an External Drive and the first disc installed.
Now, however, no matter what I do, and I've tried turning the drive off and back on again. It loads the disc, it looks all green lights and ready. I click OK of the two options OK or Cancel. And my disc drive spits the disc out. I've tried holding the drive door shut and keeping it there. Probably not good for the drive but it insists on spitting my cd out every time. I try to start it on disc 2.
Also some curiousities of note, Adobe installer notified me that I now could use Adobe Photoshop at any time as it was now installed, but instead I find Adobe Bridge has installed, no sign of a photoshop anywhere.

    Download the installers from here:

    many thanks Carl.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

  • Encore CS3 Disc is in drive, but installation is asking me to insert disc!

I've got the disc in my drive bay. Autoloads, I click setup. It begins setup of Encore CS3... and then asks me to insert the Adobe Encore CS3 disc into D:\ drive! How is this even happening to me? Is there a way to fix it?

    Brian,
With a few other Adobe installation issues, doing a copy of the installation discs to the HDD and then dragging the executable to the desktop has worked with similar problems.
There are a couple of things to think about:
1.) stop all AV, spyware and pop-up blockers BEFORE you attempt the installation
2.) with some applications, installation from Safe-Mode works, when other methods fail. Do not know if Encore will install in Safe-Mode. some recent Adobe apps will not.
3.) if you have had any trial, or beta Adobe versions installed, uninstall, and run Adobe Clean Script (from the Adobe site), prior to attempting to do another install.
Hope that one of these helps get the "Millennium Falcon" up and running.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Unable to insert dvd in drive

unable to insert dvd in drive

some 2 weeks ago, someone in this forum was making desperate efforts to insert the optical support, could not do it, at last opened the rascal and found an x-dollar coin in it. Check whether the same there. If not a coin, perhaps another disk. what happens if you press the Eject disk key on your keyboard, I assume there is one on that generation.

  • I am unable to insert DVDs?

I successfully played DVDs through my mini mac on saturday and today i am unable to load a disc.  I have checked to see if a disc is already in the drive and it is empty.  Any suggestions?

Pre-July 20, 2011 Mac Minis, install 10.6.8 in a separate partition or earlier if not already there. Here's how to partition without erasing, so you have room for 10.6:
    http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1395749
Only do if you have more than 15% of your hard drive free+ the required space for 10.6.  Then apply the 10.6.8 combo update.
Then see if you can insert the disc booting into 10.6.
    Otherwise, read this tip:
    How to eject your disc?
    and this tip*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/cdrfailure.html
Worst comes to worse, check the disc in another drive to see if it has gotten dirty, or your drive has gotten dirty.

  • Inserted disc sometimes does not mount

    Hello -
Just picked up a new i5 iMac over the weekend. Going through the process of reinstalling my software.
Occasionally when I insert an installer disc into the drive, it does not mount, and I am unable to eject it. If I launch Disk Utility it does force the drive to start spinning and it recognizes the disc. This doesn't happen every time, and it's not always the same disc that causes the problem. Seems that the drive intermittently does not start spinning when I insert a disc.
I do plan on calling Apple if I cannot fix the problem myself.
Any suggestions that may fix this?

Very simple solution - take it back and ask for a replacement computer. if you read thru the posts you will see there are thousands of people with the same problem. Apple has not come up with a cure yet.

<an identifier> <a double-quoted delimited-idThis suggests to me that an unprintable character (notice how there is nothing between the double quotes - "") has worked its way into your PL/SQL Handler. Note how the error is reported to be a column 74 on line 2, yet line 2 of the above block should only have 58 characters, so at a pure guess somehow there's extra whitespace on line 2, that is confusing the PL/SQL compiler, I suggest re-typing the PL/SQL handler manually and seeing if that cures the problem.

  • No disc in the drive. Please install disc into drive E.

I have contacted your customer tech service via chat. They worked with me for three hours today and passed me off to the forums because they couldn't speak English and couldn't figure out the answer to my problem, even after taking control of my computer.
What my problem is, is that I just bought both photoshop and Premiere elements 13. Photoshop seems to work fine.
When I click on Premiere Elements 13 I get an error box that reads: There is no disc in the drive. Please insert disc into drive E.
Adobe chat support seemed to think it was enough that the program was installed correctly. They couldn't figure out how to get rid of the dang error box that disappears after 7 to 10 clicks anywhere on the box. This error box pops up when I enter the program or leave it. Its appearance every time I use the program or leave the program is annoying and unacceptable as we will be opening and closing the program constantly.
I have completely taken off my antivirus program so it wouldn't be a factor in this. I have reinstalled the program about ten times literally, including one tedious download from your website. The error message still continues to pop up.
I am running Windows 8 on a brand new computer. 16 GB RAM with 64 bit processor.
Hope you can help because I am very annoyed after six hours of this irritation.

Sorry I meant that I have a 64 bit operating system and the processor is Intel Core i7-337CPU @3.40GHz   3.90Ghz

    Hi Ravi Rai,
I'm sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your Mac. If you are having hard freezes or restart issue that don't appear to be drive related, even after reinstalling Mavericks, you may want to try the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."

  • Finder does not recognize inserted disc [Solution]

After working with AppleCare and suddenly stumbling on a solution to this problem, I wanted to provide a solution for the problem on the discussion boards in case someone has the same problem.
    Problem Description
When inserting a blank disc (various forms of media including DVD's and CD's) and selecting the Finder to open mount the disc on the desktop, the Finder fails to mount or load the disc with an error (no error number) indicating that the disc is not recognized.
    Problem Analysis
After various attempts at fixing the problem, I discovered that the Retrospect Express Backup software I use to perform backups to my external Hard Disk was interferring with the Finder's ability to mount media. Retrospect installs a plug-in for the Finder which analyzes inserted discs in order to mount specially formatted Retrospect discs which contain backed up files. While unproven, I believe the plug-in is interferring with the Finder's behavior.
    Workarounds
While the workarounds to this problem do not always work, I have usually found that one out of the options will work when the others do not. It also happens that the Finder usually performs as expected regardless after one of the workarounds has been successful for each reboot of the computer. That is, usually I have to perform one of the workarounds every time I restart my computer.
The first solution is simply to remove all external disks that might be handled by Retrospect (such as an external drive used for backups), and then to mount the new blank disc in the Finder.
The second solution is to start the retrospect software while inserting the blank media. The retrospect software should then analyze the media and take control of it. When you quit the Retrospect software, the software should then relinquish control of the media and the Finder will have the opportunity to access the disc free from interference.
    Additional Notes and Requests
Ideally I would like to find out what's going wrong here specifically and find a good way for Retrospect and the Finder to work together. If anyone knows of newer updates or other such things that might help with this, then that would be great. Another thing to note is that this problem only started after the 10.4.9 update to Mac OS.
If anyone has any other workarounds or comments on this solution, do please reply with them, as these workarounds are far from ideal.

Hi papagenu, and a warm welcome to the forums!
What brand & Model is it?
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.

  • Insertable disc cannot be read error message

Every time i reboot my iMac I get this red box that pops up that says,
"the insertable disc cannot be read...."
    not exactly verbatim but close.
I don't have any CD/DVD's in the drive.  The only things in the usb slots are the keyboard, printer and my external hard drive.
But the question is, why is the error coming up all of a sudden?

    Greetings,
Use basic isolation to determine where this is coming from.  Remove all the devices from the computer and add them back in 1 at a time, restarting between each addtion.
When the message comes back, you've found your culprit. My guess would be the external HD.  It may be damaged and needs repair: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8492.html
If it ends up being your printer, does your printer have a media card reader in the front for flash memory from cameras?  Perhaps either the reader is damaged or there is a card inserted.
    Hope that helps.

    Hello Peter:
Thanks! I tried to input two detail records and still get only one error.
I don't have pre/post trigger in my form. I use WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger with the following code:
    if get_block_property('PARENT_DATA',status) = 'CHANGED' or
    get_block_property('DETAIL_DATA',status) in ('CHANGED') then
    COMMIT;
I also try File -> Save. It does not work either.
Do I need to pre/and post trigger to check for it? If so, please show me how.
    Thanks again,
    TD
