Unable to insert pdf object into 64-bit Word 2010

I have always been able to insert pdf files into word documents.  However, when I upgraded to the 64-bit version of Word, I started experiencing the below issue.
My setup is: Windows 7 64-bit, Word 2010 64-bit, Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro v9.4.7.
When I attempt to insert a pdf file into Word, I receive the following message:
"The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  To edit this object, install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed."
I have researched this issue a great deal.
Previously, I found a posting which specified some registry keys to delete.  I followed these directions and it worked.  But, after installing some updates, the issue is back and I am unable to find the post specifying the registry keys to remove.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Brandon

Solution:
Open Adobe Reader / Pro
Go to Edit àPreferenceà General (LHS)àUncheck “Enable protected mode at startup”.
Adobe Reader’s protected mode will be disabled
Now try inserting Adobe document in Word, it will work.

  • Unable to insert pdf object into ppt or word

I am unable to insert a pdf object into Word or Powerpoint.  I have Adobe Reader 9.3 and Windows 7 MS Office 2010 64 bit.   Previously, I was able to perform this task without issue with the same software.
    For word, I get:
"The program used to create this object is AcroExch.  That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding.  The edit this object install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed".
    For Powerpoint, I get:
"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an unknown error.   You mayneed to reinstall the server application."
Was an update sent out that may have caused the issue?
Or is there a solution to resolve the issue?  The ony solution I have sound is Disabling Protect Mode which does not apply to this version of Reader.
Any help would be greately appreciated.  Thank you.

There is another thread on this and seems to be an ongoing issue with neither Microsoft nor Adobe owning up to it.  What I did to work-around the issue is create a .zip file of the .pdf file which can then be put into the workd doc as an object file icon.  Worked for me.  Not the best solution but this has been ongoing since 2011, and this worked.

I would try to install a newer Reader version; either 10.1.10 or 11.0.07.

    Hi Techies,
I have 8 tables in my designer
and I have two contexts at designer level
And how to insert a object into a context that is not referencing any table.
For Example I have an object like "rownum" (Which should must be added at Universe level only not at report level). Here this object is not referencing any table and I want this to be used in a query where the remaining objects are coming from the context..
    Thanks in Advance..

Double-click the Objects and click the TABLES button and select the table you want to associate the object to for the context to work properly (see below).

  • I want to insert .pdf files into a "Master" .pdf file at pre-determined intervals - how do I do this?

I want to insert .pdf files into a "Master" .pdf file at pre-determined intervals - how do I do this?

    Hi markm11762689,
When you insert pages, you can determine whether they go before or after the first or last page, or a page number that you specify.
If you're inserting multiple files at once, they will all be inserted in the same spot that you specify in the Select File to Insert dialog box.
There may be a way to handle this programmatically, and there are some very clever folks who visit these forums regularly. Let's see if they chime in...

  • How to insert an object into an object array

I have an array of objects and im trying to insert an object into the array at position zero. Does anyone know what method I can use for this?

    Hey,
Are u using a normal array or an array list ?
For instance if you are using a normal array and you wnat to store an object of classX it should be something like this:
myArray[0] = new classX(vlaue1, Value2, Value3);this will only work if you have a default constructer for the objects.
I am posting under correction here but this is the basic idea.
    Hope it helps :-)

  • Adobe PDF maker add-in for Word 2010 adding strange numbers to headings

    Hi everyone,
I used the Adobe PDF maker add-in for Word 2010 to export a Word document to pdf. After saving the pdf, I noticed that the headings that are displayed in the navigaton pane now contain strange numbers, eg.
    1.1 14BSecond level heading
    1.2 15BSecond level heading
    The above should be:
    1.1 Second level heading
    1.2 Second level heading
It's doing this for all second level headings in the document and when I save as a pdf file, these numbers are showing in the pdf bookmarks.
Does anyone know if this is a known bug with the pdf add-in and if yes, if there's any way to remove the numbers?
    Thanks in advance.

I am experiencing a somewhat similar problem. In my case the unwanted numbers are being prepended to the running headers at the tops of the pages.
So for example, I have some Heading 1 text that says Verifying the Required Account Settings. But in the running header, this shows as 11BVerifying the Required Account Settings.
Unlike the original poster, the 11B does not appear in the text itself - only in the PDF generated by Acrobat's PDF Maker.
This occurs with this document when output from either Word 2007 or Word 2010 and Acrobat X.
    Any suggested fixes?    ...pt

  • I cannot insert a pdf object into word 2010 (64 bit).

I've tried to insert a pdf file (acrobat 11 pro installed) into word 2010 (64 bit) and get a message along the lines of:
"the program used to create this object is acrobat. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install Acrobat or ensure that any dialog boxes in Acrobat are closed."
Acrobat 11 Pro is installed and works fine for everything else.
I've never had a problem with this before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I've already tried to repair acrobat and I've uninstalled and reinstalled it but makes no difference.
(problem also applied to excel and word pad)

I am having this same issue.  Has it been solved yet?

  • Cannot open PDFs inserted as objects into Excel.

Two-part question.  I know this has been addressed before, but the solutions are not working for me.
I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and Adobe Reader XI.  When inserting a PDF document as an object into Excel, it will not allow me to insert the icon/object from the "Create New" option.  I get one of two error messages: 'Cannot insert object'  or 'Cannot start the soruce application for this object'.  I am able to insert the PDF icon/object if I insert from the "Create from file" option. (Please note I cannot always link to the PDF, as some spreadsheets are sent out externally and will not have access.)
Once I am finally able to insert the document as an object, I can open and view the PDF.  However, when I close the spreadsheet and re-open it, if I try to open the PDF document again, I get this error message again: 'Cannot start the soruce application for this object'.
I have changed my preference to disable the Protected Mode at startup and this issue is still happening.  VERY frustrating.  I never encountered this is past versions of Adobe and all previous suggestions are not fixing the issue.  Does anyone have any insight or know of an update to fix this issue?  Is this an Adobe issue or a Microsoft Office issue?

  • Inserting a PDF object into a spreadsheet

    Hello--
I am trying to create a PDF object in an excel spreadsheet. When I do this the PDF that I use shows up in the spreadsheet, but the mark-ups that exist in the original PDF file do not show. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Re: How to embed the Word Document and PDF file into Crystal report?

    Hi
Perform the following steps to import a Microsoft Word document (*.doc) into a report using Crystal Reports:
    1) Create a new Crystal report.
    2) From the Insert menu, click OLE object.
    3) Select Create from file.
    4) Click Browse and open the file to use (in this case the Word document).
    5) Place the OLE object in the section where you would like to see it.
You can only place the OLE Object in one section. You may need to create a Word document for each section. For instance, you can create a word document to use as OLE object in the Report Header section, and another one to place in the Page Header.

  • Unable to Insert PDF to Powerpoint 2010 getting error

    Hi,
I am getting this error "The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an unknown error.
You may need to reinstall the server application" when I am trying to insert an PDF file into Powerpoint slide I am using this method to insert the pdf file => from INSERT menu=>OBJECT=>Create from file. I have unchecked the protected mode at
start up from security settings of adobe reader (I am using ver 11.0.0.9) and other suggested troubleshooting but no luck so far please help me out of this problem.
I have done the following troubleshooting so far with no luck,as the problem persist:-
    1)Reinstall the Adobe reader 11.0.0.9
    2)repair the office 2010 64 bit
3)removed the Adobe reader 11.0.0.9 ver and tried the same for ver 9 and ver 10
    4) unchecked the protected mode at start up from security settings of adobe reader
5)Clean boot method is also of no use as I tried it also.
Microsoft really needs to  take note of it as it seems to be a bug in 64 bit office

    Hi Swapnil,
It's a common issue when you try to embed an object in your presentation. In most cases, the reason is because Adobe Reader X has a new Protected mode, and usually, disable that protected mode will fix the issue.
For your case, I'd suggest you try to re-register the Component Object Model provider,
OLE32.dll and see if it helps:
Just type: regsvr32 %systemroot%\system32\ole32.dll in the CMD window, and then press
    Enter. Click OK.
    Hope it helps.

  • Inserting pdf file into database

I am trying to insert a adobe pdf file into a multimedia field in my database and while I can get it to cut and past I would like it to auto size into the box that I have defined for it. I have many records to compile, thousands. Some of these pdf files have several pages and it would be nice to be able to scroll through thier content in that multimedia field box. How do I do this? Is it possible? If not I assume I am stuck with making a link that opens the file. I assume this is possible. How do I do this?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Shane

    Hello
You may enter the Layout > Layout mode to enlarge the area dedicated to the multimedia field.
But there is no provision for an autosize feature.
The link soluce is not available in databases.
I mimic it true the "enhanced database" structure requiring an AppleScript.
You may find the script on my temp iDisk or in the Peggy's one which is organised well.

  • Insert  PDF document into Word 2007 document

I am trying to insert a PDF document into a Word 2007 document and only the first page inserts.  I am desperate to finish this project.  Thanks for any help.

A lot depends on what your end goal is in using the PDF. Without some concept of where you are headed, there is not much more that can be said, other than list a bunch of other ways to interact with WORD.
Yeah, I agree with Bill@VT. More precisely say, if you just need to quote the pdf content, you can just use "snagit" screenshot program to capture desired part of the pdf file as an image then paste into your word document. Usually in this way, there will not any resize or data loss of reuse pdf content into word file.
And of course, if you want to further change or edit the pdf content or seamlessly <link removed>, you just try to convert pdf to word with Adobe Acrobat or other software.
Message was edited: for this user, across multiple threads, to remove link promotion

  • Inserting excel object into powerpoint

I am in BPC for PowerPoint and trying to "Insert BPC for Excel Object"
It comes back as an empty worksheet. No other worksheet works either.
The same file works when I insert it into BPC for Word.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello,
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question? Do you want to have a SWF-file, published by Presenter with inserted SWF's created in CP. Because you speak about 'using the Presenter tab', so I suppose you have Adobe Presenter installed. I have inserted quite a lot of CP-SWF's in a PPT, and this works fine (especially after the recent Presenter update), but the result is a SWF-published by Presenter (under the same Presenter tab). You can even choose to control the CP-SWF by its proper playbar or by the playbar of Presenter.
BTW, a user doesn't need to have CP installed to watch a CP-SWF, only the Flash Player.
If this is not the answer you expect, please try to explain somewhat more.
