Unable to install driver for GTX 650 Ti on HP Pavilion p7-1187c

Greetings,
I have an HP Pavilion p7-1187c with integrated graphics (DX 10.1) on a IPISB-CU (Carmel 2) motherboard. I upgraded the power supply to a Corsair 550 (no problem) and then installed a Gigabyte GEFORCE GTX 650 ti graphics card. THe card is getting power judging by the fact the fan is spinning.
When I attemped to install the driver from the CD supplied by Gigabyte, I immediately get the message: This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware so was not able to install." I'm a computer novice so this message means nothing to me. Any help as to what the next step should be would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible that my motherboard simply will not allow for a separate graphics card?
I needed to upgrade the graphics card to be able to run X-Plane 10.
Thanks again for any help.
Leon

Hi Leon,
The NVIDIA 650 TI requires auxillary power via the PCI-E 6 pin power connector to fully power up.  If the card doesn't fully power up then the bios is not going to see the card and therefore the operating system will not see the card.
The 650 TI card is 110+ watts and the without the PCI-E 6 pin power connector there is not going to be sufficient power from the PCI-E slot to power up the card.  See the below image for the location to attached the PCI-E 6 pin power connector.

Have you tried RMB - 'Run as administrator'?
Btw. any particular reason to install the driver?
A monitor driver is a nice gimmick, but most times not really needed.

Help! Installing updates an error occurred now my MacBook Pro will not restart. "Unable to find driver for this platform"

Did you try more than once? If so:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Leopard install fails with panic: "Unable to find driver for this platform"

I have an early 2006 20" iMac with OSX 10.4.11 installed. Running perfectly with latest Firmware, permissions repaired, just perfect. I now want to upgrade to OSX 10.5, so I insert the Leopard Install DVD, reboot, and then to my horror a kernel panic, screen goes black with message panic(CPU 0 ...): "Unable to find driver for this platform", with the usual boxed message about holding the start button.
    Grateful for any help.

I finally managed to install Leopard by using a 2nd iMac to read the install DVD, and using firewire and Target Mode as described in http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10327225-263.html?tag=mfiredir . This seems to imply that the kernel panic is due to some hardware fault with my iMac's optical drive.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective.

  • My MacBook Pro stated that it needed to be updated. I clicked yes to restart the computer and update but when it restarted it stays on the gray screen with the apple logo and then pops up, stating "unable to find driver for this platform." What do I do?

  • Kernel Panic: Unable to find driver for this platform

So, my 1 GM RM, 1.5 GHz Powerbook G4 (15 inches) has been behaving wonderfully lately. Until, this morning, it locked up -- as it sometimes does -- after inserting a 3rd party SATA card and waking it from sleep.
This is normally not a problem. A reboot gets things back on track. Not today. The reboot stayed on the grey screen with the white apple logo. I tried booting off of a Disk Warrior CD and an OS X 10.4 install DVD. I go this kernel panic:
Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerBook5,6".
But...and here's the best part...if I boot into target disk mode and hook the computer up to another similar Powerbook we have, the similar PowerBook boots fine using my drive.
So, it seems to be a hardware problem with my PowerBook. Any ideas on how I narrow it down?
    Thanks,
    Gary

Glad you found your problem. Our kernel panic on our 15" G4 is a bad logic board. $500+ to fix it. Just found out yesterday.

power book not loading (error: unable to find driver for this platform) help

That usually happens when trying to install Mac software intended for Intel-powered Macs (made in 2006 through present) on a PowerPC mac like teh powerbook (made before 2006).
You post is a little cryptic, however. We may be of further help if you can tell us:
<> the PowerBook's processor type (G3 or G4) and the Mac OS version, both available by doing "About the Mac" from your Apple menu.
<> what program and its version your were trying to run and/or install.

  • Unable to find driver for platform: ACPI

I'm getting this error message: 'panic(cpu 0 caller OX0039C213): Unable to find driver for this platform "ACPI", overlaid on the kernel panic screen at startup.
I can't reboot into safe mode. In single user mode and verbose mode, the same error message appears and I can't type anything after it does.
This happened after I HAD a kernel panel, booted into safe mode, uninstalled recently installed applications (norton antivirus and stuffit) and deleted items from library/startupitems.
i then restarted to see if it would work normally, but now i can't even boot into safe mode.
i'm posting all of this from the windows partition of my macbook, which works fine.
HELP! my macbook is (sigh) not even 2 months old.

Hopefully someone else can be more helpful than I. "ACPI" is Windows technology. So the problem is in your installation of Windows (maybe the Mac foundation for it, I don't know).

This is almost certainly a software problem, and in the worst case, you can fix it by starting over with a clean install of OS X.

  • Unable to find driver for this platform

Some how I did something wrong on my emac and now I get the message  "unable to find driver for this platform"

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

  • I've recently been given an eMac, but when I try to boot it I get the following- panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform "Powermac 4,4"

Recently I was given an eMac that had been sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years.; When I tried to power it up I was getting all kinds of noise at first. I checked all connections that I could, then checked that the memory was correctly inserted into the memory banks, they wernt, so re fitted them then all the weird noises went.
Now when I try to start the Mac I get the first chime then the machine stops with the following error message . . .
panic(cpu 0): Unable to find driver for this platform "Powermac 4,4"
I've been away from Mac for a few years now and would love to shove my PC back in the cupboard where it belongs, so if someone could help me get my eMac going I'd be real happy,.

You have to call Apple & likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it! Helps to tell them you have an iPad/iPhone & you can't run 10.6.
There are workarounds if the 867MHz CPU is the only hangup...

    Hello jayparks41
There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.
