Unable to install JRE 6U3

I have been unable to update or remove my java application in windows Add/Remove function. This is the error message I get when I attempt to automaticly download update. If you encounter an error, check the top of the browser (see image above) for a yellow bar that reads "This site might require the following ActiveX control: J2SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 3 from 'Sun Microsystems, Inc.'. Click here to install..." Click the yellow bar and choose "Install ActiveX Control..." to allow installation to proceed.
Manually nothing happens. Any suggestions. Been crusiinf forums and have found similar problems but no useful solutuions.......

If you go to Control Panel and use Add/Remove Programs, all that happens is that the Sun install software runs and allows various install options or the option to reinstall. Nowhere is 'uninstall' mentioned.
The only choice AT YOUR RISK is to delete the software folder, e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03 and then clean up the registry. I use Norton SystemWorks 2003 (old but good) which will remove approximately 267 registry entries relating to jre1.6.0_03. I also run PC Tools Registry Mechanic (v5.2 in my case) which is a trusted registry cleaner to finish the cleanup. I always run SystemWorks 2003 before Registry Mechanic.
I then use some software - Innovative Solutions 'Advanced Uninstaller 4' - using the 'forced removal' option to get rid of the entry for the program (jre.1.6.0_03 or whatever) which appears in Add/Remove Programs. I imagine that a trip with regedit would get the same result but I don't need to with 'Advanced Uninstaller 4'.
This has worked on two previous occasions without ill effect.
It is all highly irregular and utterly ridiculous that Sun make it necessary to do it this way. Someone signed this absurdity off. Will he/she please own up.

  • Unable to install JRE 6u24 at Windows Vista 64 bit

    Hej
    When I start I see a dilalog window popup and then it is removed imeediately. I am not able to see the text. Then nothing happens. When I go through all running processes I see that 3 instances of msiexec.exe have started. One of them takes 13% of the CPU and will run for ever.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Anders

    Do the following:
    1. Ensure that you are a member of the Windows Administrators group. If not, you will not be able to perform the installation.
    2. Ensure that any previous attempts to install have been terminated (refer to the Task Manager)
    3. Decrease or disable UAC. Refer to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Turn-User-Account-Control-on-or-off
    4. Once you have completed the above (reboot may be necessary), right mouse click on the JRE installable you downloaded (i.e. jre-6u24-windows-i586.exe). Select "Run as Administrator"
    Be sure to do this from the local machine and not a remote machine. For example do not do this using VNC, Remote Desktop Sharing, ect.
    Also, if you have older JRE versions installed, I would recommend uninstalling them and rebooting first.

    On the off-chance that it had something to do with installing Oracle 11.0 with ODS Developer 10.0, I've rolled my database installation back too, so now I have:

  • Unable to install Oraclei 8.1.7 on P4 machine

    I am unable to install the above version of Oracle on a IBM P4 machine with 256 MB RAM.
    Got the following message while installing:
    JRE was not found at:
    d:\software\Oracle8i\stage\components\Oracle.swd.jre/1.1.7.24/1/Datafiles/Expanded/jre\win32\bin\jrew.exe
    Install jre 1.1.7 or above and continue.
    After getting the above message, I installed jre 1.1.8_09.
    Inspite of this, the installation is not commencing.
    The documentation is silent of this. However, it does mention that that it may possibly happen with a Novell Netware system due to the filenames being restricted to 8 characters.
    I did try this out to and named the installation directory of jre with 8 characters. But the problem still persists.
    Looking forward to a solution from some Oracle gurus.
    Thanks in advance.
    Girish

    Workaround
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Not only will OUI be affected by this bug, most of the post-install
    configuration tools will also be affected. Running these tools with "-nojit"
    specified will avoid the hang, but it is not simple to specify "-nojit" for
    some of the products.
    The following workaround works for the Windows operating system:
    a. Copy only the install directory from the CD to the hard disk ,say, e:\temp.
    b. Open oraparam.ini and make the following modifications (Assuming CD
    drive is f:)
    * Change the "SOURCE=" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e., SOURCE=f:\stage\products.jar)
    * Change the "JRE_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    JRE_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\jre\1.1.7\1\DataFiles\Expanded)
    * Change the "OUI_LOCATION" line to use the full path to the CD instead of a
    relative path. (i.e.,
    OUI_LOCATION=f:\stage\Components\oracle\swd\oui\1.6.0.9.0\1\DataFiles\Expanded
    * Change the "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line to add "-nojit" as the first argument.
    (i.e., JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m)
    ^^^^^^
    * Other entries should remain the same
    c. Launch setup.exe from the temporary location on your hard drive (i.e.
    e:\temp\install\win32\setup.exe). This will use the modified
    oraparam.ini and pick up the information from the CD since the absolute
    locations are specified.
    Choose a Custom install and choose not to create a database during the
    install. This way, the Database Configuration Assistant will not be launched
    during installation.
    The Net8 Configuration Assistant will still be launched, and there is no way
    to suppress it. You will need to kill the Net8 Configuration Assistant if it
    hangs due to the bug. The installation still will have been successful, and
    you can run the DBCA and NetCA after installation.
    To kill NetCA if it hangs during installation:
    In the "Configuration Tools" window, highlight the "Net8 Configuration
    Assistant" and click "Stop". If that does not work, look for the most recent
    JRE process using the Task Manager, and kill it manually. NOTE: the OUI
    itself will also have a jre process. Be sure to kill the one with the most
    recent date, which should be the jre process being used for Net8CA, not the
    one for OUI itself.
    After killing the configuration tools and continuing through the installation
    to the "End of Installation" screen, you should modify the configuration tools
    to use "-nojit", then call the appropriate tools from the Start Menu.
    Once installation is complete, each of the following files in the ORACLE_HOME
    needs to be modified:
    assistants\dbca\dbassist.cl
    assistants\dbma\dbmig.cl
    assistants\ifa\ifa.cl
    bin\elogin.cl
    bin\owm.cl
    ldap\oidamdin\oidadmin.cl
    network\tools\netasst.cl
    network\tools\netca.cl
    owm\install\instelogin.cl
    owm\install\instowm.cl
    Edit the contents of the above files to add "-nojit" as shown below:
    Command=("C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\BIN\JREW" -nojit -classpath ....
    this is the only thing you need to add --> ^^^^^^
    Then, launch the necessary tools, like Net8CA and DBCA from the Start Menu.
  • WebStart 1.4.2 doesn't find installed JRE for 1.4.2 ?
    I have installed J2RE1.4.2_04. As far as I can tell, it works just fine and there are registry keys set for
    Java Runtime Environment for 1.4 and 1.4.2_04 which are set to the same thing. However, when I
    run my webstart app, I get an error with the general information that "The application has requested a
    version of the Java 2 platform (JRE) that is currently not locally installed. Java Web Start was unable to
    automatically download and install the requested version. The JRE version must be installed manually."
    Having turned tracing and output on, I look in the log and see
    javawsApplicationMain: Installed JRE: null
    So, for some reason, WebStart doesn't think I have an installed JRE. Could someone tell me why?
    I have tried various incantations of version, such as
    <j2se version="1.4.2_04"/>
    <j2se version="1.4.2"/>
    <j2se version="1.4.2+"/>
    <j2se version="1.4.2*"/>
    All of these result in the same error. If I try either of
    <j2se version="1.4+"/>
    <j2se version="1.4"/>
    WebStart recognizes that I do in face have a JRE installed, but then I have other problems. I would
    prefer to get the 1.4.2 problem fixed first since I require 1.4.2 and some boxes have 1.4.1 on them.
    Thanks for any ideas!
    : jay
    This is confusing and done poorly in my opinion but the only "versions" of Java 2 are 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 (1.5 is coming). If you specify anything past those (as your first four examples do), Web Start assumes a product specific version and you have to provide a URL to download it. Even if it is on the machine, Web Start downloads the version and stores a separate copy of it.
    See http://java.sun.com/products/javawebstart/developers.html#auto for details.
    I think the only thing you can do if multiple versions of 1.4 are installed is go into Web Start preferences and uncheck the box so it is not enabled.
  • Trying to install JRE 7u7
    Hello,
    I'm trying to install JRE 7u7 x64 and am having a few problems.
    I can run the installer and its fine until it begins to install. Then an error message appears saying:
    "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable."
    It is referring to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk 1.7.0_02\\", which doesn't exist on my computer.
    It then comes up with Error 1714:
    "The older version of Java 7 Update 7 cannot be removed."
    The installer then quits.
    Because of this I cannot run any .jar files at the moment.
    Is there any way I can fix this and install a working JRE?
    I've successfully installed the JDK 7u7 x64 and u2 previously.
    I had JRE which worked OK before this but it suddenly stopped. I'm afraid I'm not sure whether it was 7u2 or version 6.
    Thanks for any help.
    Hi Varun,
    I am using Safari.
    I go to the Adobe web site, then download the latest Flash Player for Mac/Safari.
    The file below appears in my Download File.
    I am then unable to open the download and proceed.  I get no error message.
    Thanks,
    Steve
    I am unable to install 8i personal edition Release 3 onto my W2K machine. I download the zip file and unzip it into (c:/OracleInstall) a folder I have created on my c:/ drive. When i click on the setup.exe file it opens up. When I click on the install button the GUI disappers and nothing occurs. I have attempted to burn it onto a CD_Rom and install through the control panel and the same occurs.
    I am not sure what is causing this problem. Is there any why I could request the software in a CD as opposed to a zip file? What could be causing this problem? Is the machine a P4? there is a known problem
    I don't know about his machine, but mine is a P4. Where do I find this information about this problem? And is there a fix? I need to install the NET8 Assistant.
    Greetings,
    Please review the "SAN Storage Repository Configuration" section of my book for a detailed review of how to setup your SAN using dm-multipath:
    http://itnewscast.com/chapter-6-oracle-vm-22-san-iscsi-and-nfs-backend-storage-configurations#SAN_Storage_Repository_Configuration
    FYI, You would need to check with your Oracle VM sales consultant or Oracle support to validate "if" Qlogic San Surfer is supported in dom0.
    Respectfully,
    Roddy
  • Installing JRE
    Exactly what administrator permissions are required to install the JRE on a Windows 2000 machine? My users are unable to install the JRE on their machines, because they apparently do not have the proper permissions, even though they have been told by their tech Nazis that they have "administrator" privilages.
    Yes, according to java.com installation instructions for Win2000,
    -- Begin copy
    Note: you must have administrative permission in order to install the Java Plug-in on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.
    -- End copy
    http://java.com/en/download/help/win_manual.jsp
    And I assume this is because among other things the installation of the jre will modify the settings in the registry.
