Unable to install latest Flash Player

I am trying to update to Flash Player 11.8.800.168 and I get an error message (no number) and when I try it from inside the Flash Player Setting Manager, or try to reload an old version of Flash, I get the message that the Flash Player Setting Manager is open, when it patently is not (happens even after I turn it off, and with old version where the Manager is not even turned on). I have tried to follow instructions for removing a file in Windows/System32 that I found elsewhere on this site, but I get a message that the file is being used and cannot be deleted. I have removed old version of Flash from my computer. The only reason I even did any of this is FIrefox insisted I needed to update - now I have been completely taken down the rabbit hole away from the work I was doing! Thanks in advance for help. Let me know if you need any other info from me.

I'm sorry... Adobe, could you please explain why the place to which you direct everyone to update the program HAS BEEN BUSTED... FOR MONTHS???
Is it really not possible for you to fix this?
Thank you.
When you check a link on a forum. you need to look at the date it was posted. The original download links in this particular thread refer to the download link to the Flash player which was available at that particular time.
We're now one year on from that date and the download links has changed.
If you want to run the web installer go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
If you want to run the full installers, go here instead: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
If you decide to run the full installers, be sure to uninstall the current installation first. You can download the uninstaller from here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
With regard to the "Failed to initialize" error, there can be any number of reasons why that appears and here are some of them.
Trying to install Flash with a non-administrative account. Solution: login with an administrative account.
Flagged by antivirus as 'Infected' and quarantined. Every subsequent attempt will be treated the same way. Solution: Add Flash player installation file to the AV's whitelist.
Blocked by firewall. Firewalls also function to protect system integrity. Solution: view the firewall's Event Log first. If found to be blocking Flash, add to the "Trusted Application" list.
If you see a "Failed to initialize" error in Windows at least, the first place to check is Event Viewer. See this Microsoft article on how to use it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427

  • On a Mac, unable to install latest Flash Player 12.0.0.44--or reinstall previous version that worked

I am on a Mac running the last version of Snow Leopard before Mavericks, 10.8.5.  I am unable to install the new Flash Player 12.0.0.4--at about the 50% mark on the installing bar, it stops and I get an error message that installation failed.  The version I had previously for some time, either 10. or 11. worked perfectly but I am not unable to reinstall any previous version either.  So I have a project I cannot run that requires Flash Player and can't watch videos.
I found someone in a forum who mentioned he'd seen several people on Snow Leopard unable to install Flash Player but his directions to overcome that which did work for someone who tried it, appear to be for PC's: from his first direction of right-clicking, I didn't get the option he says to click on that starts the process.
Can anyone tell me how to install this new Flash Player in a Mac on Snow Leopard?  Should I trash all the new versions of the installer and the Flash Player Debugger Version 11.4.402.287 (11.4) that I have from a previous installment, prior to trying again?
    Thanks for any help.

What I'm looking for is specifically the "General Installation Error", since it's 10.8.5.
You're missing a file that was made visible by the 10.8.5 update. Hundreds of thousands of Mac users all over the world deleted it, not knowing what it was. It causes this when it's missing.
Download this file: "Secrets" pereference pane
    And this one: mach_kernel.zip
Install Secrets, and open your System Preferences.
Open the Secrets Preference Pane, and check "Show hidden files"
You'll need to press the "Quit this" button,
and restart Finder, by right clicking the Dock icon.
Then, place the mach_kernel.zip file in the Mac HD directory,
and unzip it. You should see a "faded" mach_kernel file appear.
    Trash the zip file.
Reopen your System Preferences and uncheck "Show Hidden files".
Instead of quitting Finder and relaunching it, reboot your Mac.
Your Flash Player installer won't quit anymore.

    I have administrative prviledges.

YES, we should follow all pop-up dialog instruction especially Flash CAN NOT install with any open IE, etc. browser using Flash (see behind your open browser) if there is one open.
The correct way to get Flash is to use your choice Browser (32 or 64 bit) or click the option that you have a different O.S., etc. Choose SAVE AS and remember where you saved it. Close ALL Browser. Find and click the downloaded Adobe Flash Payer file. Don't do anything with your PC and wait after final installation -- it'll tell you how successfully you're with a new web page. Restart your PC if it ask you to or better do it now.

Thank all that replied to my post. I was able to successfully install Flash Player following this procedure:

Verify that the Flash Player.plugin file is not present.  If it is, trash it.

Verify that the Flash Player Install Manager folder does not exist.  If it does, trash the whole folder

  • Unable to install Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX -- Error 1722

    Hi,
I am unable to install Flash Player 11.5.502.149 on Windows 8.  The error reported is:
Adobe Flash Player 11 ActiveX -- Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action NewCustomAction1, location: C:\Users\Nick\AppData\Local\Temp\InstallAX_11_5_502_146.exe, command: -install -msi
We have tried running uninstall_flash_player.exe to try and clean things up but this still fails.  Is there a known problem with installing Flash player ActiveX on Windows 8?  Flash player Plugin works fine just the ActiveX version which does not.
    Thanks,

  • Problems Installing Latest Flash Player

    Hellohello!
My Adobe Flash Player for Mozilla Firefox has been giving me troubles these past months, so today I decided to install a more recent version on my laptop.
Following the instructions, I deinstalled the old version before initializing the download/installation of the latest Flash Player. That, however, proved to be a mistake, as the installation has failed continously so far and now I have no player to my avail at all.
I have tried installation several times, but the process didn't even start and just left me the message 'Aktionsliste nicht gefunden' (action list not found).
I'm using a Fujitsu Siemens Laptop Computer with 32 Bit operating system and Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU processor. Windows Visa with Service Pack 2 is installed. So I guess the problem can't be due to a deficiency in system requirements and I also made sure that the required plug-in is activated and that any other version of the player is removed from my laptop.
Being anything but a computer/IT expert, I would be very very grateful if anybody could help me out. I'm at my wit's end in this matter, have spent the last three hours scouting for possible solutions to this problem.. to no avail whatsoever.
    Thanks a million in advance!!
    Laura

    Hi Laura,
Most of these installation problems are caused by antivirus apps. These days, practically all of them incorporate web shields to protect you from downloading malware, files shields to prevent you from installing rogue pograms and the like. It's the file scanner which is the most problematical because it springs into action as soon as you run an installer of any kind. This interferes with the installation process and leads to file corruption further down the line.
In the current circumstances, I suggest you proceed as follows. First of all, disable all antivirus shields. If you happen to be using AVAST antivirus, right click the orange icon in the systray and choose to disable all shields for one hour. If you're using a different AV app, look for something similar in the user menus. Then proceed as follows.
Download the Flash uninstaller from here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
    Close all browsers.
Reboot. This is important to clear the Windows Registry after you uninstall something.
When the system reboots to the desktop, disable those AV shields again.
Download the installer from here: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax_32bit.exe This is the installer for Internet Explorer. When you see the prompt, choose "Run" to install it immediately.
If you use another browser like Firefox, Opera, Safari etc., download this one as well: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_32bit.exe When you see the download prompt for this one, choose "Save" instead and save it somewhere you can find it afterwards.
After you complete the installation process, go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ to check that everything went according to plan.
You may require this player as well: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/ It's rather like an enhanced version of the Flash Player and you'll need it to play games where you have some interaction with the animation. You don't need to run an uninstaller for this one. Simply download and click "Run" in Internet Explorer where you want to install it in that specific browser, or choose "Save" when you want to install it in any other browser.

  • Windows XP cannot shutdown after installing latest Flash Player

Anybody know what is wrong with latest version of flash
    player?
i installed the latest version of flash player (download from
adobe), when I need to shutdown my Windows XP, the system does not
allow me to shutdown. I have to terminate the process
    install_flash_player
Appreciate if anyone can advice me..

Haven't ever heard of Windows not being able to shut down
at all because of a certain process. If anything, it'll ask
you if you want to terminate it, and you just hit ok and it
    continues shutting down.
Not to call you a lair or anything, just hadn't ever heard of
that, so I'd try re-installing the Flash Player first and foremost.
Don't just download the same player and install, first download
their flash_uninstaller, then re-download the flash player, and
    install it.
