Unable to install Lion Recovery Update v1.0 on Mac OS 10.8.2

Hi to anyone who can help,
As the "Find My Mac" option is greyed out, I followed all the instructions on the support forums on how to get this feature, such as Verify/Repair Machintosh HD using Disk Ultilty from the Recovery partition.
Subsequently I tried to install Lion Recovery Update v1.0 from the Apple Support link below:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1464
However, while attempting to install, it says "This update can only be installed on OS 10.7". How do I get this fixed?
Some background info, my MacBook Pro 15" (early 2011) had a replacement Hard Disk Drive and Logic Board.
1. The replacement drive had 10.7.4 installed, and I used the recovery partition to restore to a Time Machine Backup (which was 10.8.2).
2. Do I need to "download" the Mountain Lion package in the app store again? I see it as an available to download instead of saying "Installed".

Exit Code 6 is a generic error that indicates that the installation was not successful.
Have a look at the following document: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/errors-exit-code-6-exit.html
A quick look at the error log, indicates a permission issues. Are you logged in with an Administrator account and have sufficient privileges to install software?

  • Macbook (late 2006) RSS unable to install SMC firmware update

    Hello,
I bought my macbook on the 27th of December, and the first week it worked fine. Then started the RSS. I did some googling and found out some stuff about RSS, tried to install the SMC firmware update but it would just tell me that I don't need the update. After two weeks of constant RSS:ing I called applecare and told the guy about the problem, he told me to try to update the SMC and if I can't do it bring it in for service.
Monday the 15th of January I went to the macstation in downtown Vancouver and told them about the trouble, they tried to boot it, and it actually booted but after like 3 minutes the macbook crashed. For about 10 minutes two guys tried to boot it and so on, but they didn't get it to boot. So they took it in for service and somebody was going to check out the macbook and see if it would need a replacement logic board - which it did. So on Monday they ordered the logic board, and today Monday 22nd of January I got it back. Now the thing that bothers me is that when I now try to update the SMC firmware (my current version is btw 1.13f3) it still just says that This computer does not need this update. oh well - i went to apples support page to try to see if there would be a newer release of the smc and then I noticed that in the bottom of the SMC firmware 1.1 update page it says:
Note: This update is only or the original MacBook, and will not install on a MacBook (Late 2006).
    Then I really was like W T F?!
I would assume that people who work for apple would know that the SMC update will not update on a computer from late 2006, but nobody ever mentioned this to me.
I've now had the computer for about an hour and the CPU temperature is at about 50 degrees celcius, with firefox, msn and a terminal open... about 5% cpu load.
What I'm really wondering is that is there anyone who has similar problems with a macbook late 2006? I guess I'll just have to see if it works and just like I told the guy at macstation, if it starts RSS:ing again I'll be banging on their door

Run Disk Utility located in /Applications/Utilities before trying to upgrade to Lion in case the startup disk needs repairing.

  • Why is the Lion Recovery updating downloading slowly by my ethernet but fast on my wifi?

Came home tonight and immediately started updating the house macs.
First, my imac.  I decided to limit the download first to the Lion Recovery Update.  It is 452MB.
My imac connected by ethernet is reporting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.  Going real slow.
I boot up the macbook sitting in the same chair, connected by wifi, and it downloaded and installed the same update in about 4 minutes.
I tried stopping the imac, rebooting, making sure everything else was closed...even tried turning on the wifi...is saying 45 minutes.
    I don't get it...any tips?
    Thanks.

Never figured this out but it finally downloaded.  Closing out.

  • Why can't I install lion recovery?

So I had a problem with find my mac and as told to install "Mac OSX Lion Recovery Update v1.0" (see here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1464)
Anyway when I came to install this on my selected partition (Macintosh HD) I was presented with the following error "Lion recovery update cannot be installed on this disk. An error occurred while evaluating JavaScript for the package"
Does anyone know why this has happened? And also how to fix it?
    Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have 3 partitions on my HDD, one is Macintosh HD, another is Bootcamp (which i created using the bootcamp installer) and the last is just a FAT partition.

It sounds as if you don't have a functioning Recovery HD now, probably because of the altered partitioning. Is your Mac capable of Lion Internet Recovery without a Recovery HD?  Some recent (2010?) Macs that originally shipped with Snow Leopard were offered an EFI firmware update for this.
If not, and if you don't want to erase and restore your internal HD, the other option in the linked support article was to install and keep a Recovery HD partition on a different volume than your internal HD:
You can also use the OS X Lion installer from the Mac App Store to create an external bootable drive, complete with a Recovery HD partition. See this article for more details. This approach will, at least, create a bootable drive with Recovery HD which you can carry with you in case you need to use Internet Restore or make use of the other utilities Recovery HD provides.
Once you have the Recovery HD as part of a new Lion installation on an external drive, you might be able to transfer just the Recovery HD from there onto a USB flash drive as described here:
OS X Lion: About Lion Recovery Disk Assistant
I don't know if all this is any better than the first option of reinstalling everything on the HD.

  • Unable to install Lion - S.M.A.R.T. errors on my hard drive???

Unable to install Lion on a 27 inch 3.06 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac running OS 10.6.8.  When I am presented with install options, my HD option is dimmed and there is a message: "This disk has S.M.A.R.T. errors.  This disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired.  Back up as much of the data as possible and replace the disk."
I have not had ANY problems with this iMac since purchasing it and other than being unable to install Lion it seems to be working just fine, and yet now I'm told that my hard drive is unrepairable.
Is this a glitch in the Lion Installer or should I be more concerned?
Any info appreciated... now it seems I've paid $30 for a download I can't use.  Grrrrrr....

Check it via Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) on Snow Leopard:
If that says there's a problem, too, there's likely a problem.

lost applications symbol and unable to install lion. Do I have to go back to original installation of operating system.  If I do will I have to reinstall all programs?

    A couple of questions:
Are you really on 10.5.8 (as shown in your profile)? You need to be on 10.6.8 to install Lion.
What exactly does the "lost applications symbol" mean? You mean it disappeared from the dock? Or is your Applications folder gone? Open a Finder window and see if you can find the Applications folder.

  • Installing lion recovery on my external hard drive

After installing lion recovery on my external hard drive, it's not accssissible anymore. The external drive had two partitions, one fat and one Mac journaled. and now the mac one doesn't exist.
Using disk utility created a new partition which is 700 MB less than before, I guess it's because of the recovery partition. I am trying to recover my files using a data recovery software now.
Is there any way to restore my files back without using recovery softwares? They corrupt most of my files.
Did I do anything wong? any suggestion would be helpfull.
