Unable to install Magic Mouse properly

Like many others before me I cannot get my new Magic Mouse to install correctly. In particular the preference pane is the one for a wireless mouse but not for a magic mouse. I have attempted to remove all of the drivers for my previous logitech mouse (including Steermouse) but to no avail. I've installed the Wireless Mouse Software update although I understand it is not required for 10.6.2. I'm at the point of thinking I wasted my money on the magic mouse and may have to return it to Apple. But before doing that I'd like to see if there is something else I can do.

In case others are suffering the same problem, I discovered that there is a Steermouse Driver for the Magic Mouse (which is still in Beta but it installed so flawlessly that I did not realize it was working until I accidentally invoked scrolling.) Why can a 3rd party developer do this and Apple can't? It will cost a bit more (when the release version is available) in order to get a working mouse but it will be worth it to avoid the aggravation.

  • What kind of bluetooth dongle(usb) should I get to use my Magic Mouse properly?

My Mac Pro doesn't have bluetooth. What kind of bluetooth dongle(usb) should I get to use my Magic Mouse properly? I already have one, but it makes the mouse seriously lacking.

I keep the dongle plugged into the back of my apple 27" monitor so that means it is only 1 to 2 feet away from the mouse.  Don't plug it into the mac pro itself if that is at any distance from the mouse.  The closer you can keep the dongle to the mouse the better.
Do a smc and pram reset.
If all is lost, and you have xcode installed then you can do a bluetooth factory reset.
Note that if you should sleep your machine, power is off the usb's, so the dongle is off.  This means you cannot wake the machine with any BT devices like the mouse (I use a wired keyboard).  Also sometimes upon waking the machine the mouse does not immediately re-pair (maybe 20% of the time).  So you have to flip its switch to get the system's attention.
While I do have internal BT, using the dongle disables the internal (at least for 2010 mac pro's).
And of course BT would go inactive if you pulled the dongle out!

  • Unable to wake screen using magic mouse or trackpad after installing magic mouse

    Dear Everyone,
I am using mbp 15 inch early 2011 with 2 GHZ intel i7 processor and a  4gb ram. I would like to tell you that i have installed the mac os x lion and quite happy with the improvement. however, there are same changes which i am not sure whether it is that my mac that causeing theproblem or the bug from the lion itself. i am unable to wake my mbp screen using my magic mouse or trackpad after installing lion. i believe that my mbp has not really enter sleep mode as i dont see the sleep indicator at the bottom right corner flickering. i also believe that it is only the screen that goes to sleep while the hard disk is not. Normally a single swing  of the magic mouse or a single swipe of the trackpad will normally wake the screen. in order to wake the screen now is only to click on the magic mouse or trackpad. furthermore, scrolliing page using magic mouse also become unusual after installing the lion. does any of u happen to come across these problems as well? Is there any other way to downgrade to snow leopard back? (i ask this in case that this issue really cannot be fixed). Please help me on this issue. Thank you very much for taking your time to read and reply this thread.
    Moonbasher (henry)

First, Lion does not wake on mouse or trackpad movement, only clicks or keyboard presses.  This is presumably to avoid waking the computer from display or full sleep accidentally, and is just how Lion works.  It's going to take some getting used to, personally, but I've noticed my mac hasn't woken up on it's own.  Apparently moving about my apartment moves the mouse enough that Snow Leopard used to wake the iMac.  This is not a glitch, and unfortunately, a downgrade is a complicated matter, involving erasing the HD entirely, and restoring from a backup created in Snow Leopard and not used with Lion at all, or manually importing important bits of data, as libraries upgraded by new versions of Mail, iCal, etc will not be compatible with the old versions.
In terms of your mouse scrolling, describe it in a bit more detail; Lion introduces "natural" scrolling, where instead of the mouse wheel moving the "window" over the contents, it moves the contents through the window, like scrolling on an iPhone or iPad.  In other words, think of your finger on the mouse as pressing on the page you're looking at and dragging it upward through the field of view.  I remember long ago thinking my very first scrolling mouse was backwards, and then adjusting to "down is down, up is up".  If this is the behavior you're experiencing, this also is the way Lion works.  This, however, can be changed in the mouse or trackpad preference pane in system preferences.  Simply deselect "natural" scrolling.
In a more general sense, its usually not a good idea to do a major software upgrade on your primary machine unless you're willing to deal with some zero-day glitches.  It sounds like the issues you're having aren't actually glitches, and you should be happy for that, but in the future, you might want to wait a few weeks for other users with more experience with major OS launches to find those bugs and point them out to the community for Apple to fix.  In terms of an OS launch, I think this has been absolutely one of the best.  I'm seeing very few major glitches resulting in lost data, few things that would really destroy my personal workflows, and compatiblity issues with other products seems to be well documented or negligible.  It's also a bit hasty to assume that mere hours after launch Apple would have any ability to fix ACTUAL problems with the OS.  My recommendation would be to get used to the change; having to click the mouse at least means you'll never accidentally wake your machine bumping against your desk.

  • Installing magic mouse on windows 7

I am trying to find a driver to install the magic mouse on my windows 7 laptop

I managed to get my magic mouse on my 64 bit windows 7 installed on a macbookpro
    I updated bootcamp to 3.1
    clic bluetooth devices icon
    add device
    switch on your magic mouse
i had the same "freezing" problem with detection when i clic the next button, so don't clic it...
instead right clic your newly discovered mouse
you should have 2 options - add device and properties
    clic properties
the properties windows should have a services tab
check the only checkable box "drivers for keyboard, mice, etc...."
(what i did) i clicked apply first and i noticed windows was installing new stuff and then i clicked ok
    my mouse works =D
the scrolling up and down IS working but not the left and right
i restarted my computer just to be sure with the mouse still on and it remained operational
i didnt try to fix the left and right scrolling, not really important anyway

  • IMAC won't turn on after installing Magic Mouse

    Hello
I Have an intel 2 core duo aluminum. I installed the magic mouse and now I cannot star it. I get the Grey screen, Some time with the apple, some times just the gray screen. When I load the installer disk and run disk utility, the hard drive does not show up. Any Idea on how to fix my problem?
    Thank you

I'm afraid so. Still. I wonder how it just happened the exact moment I installed the magic Mouse. Thought it could be a compatibility issue
    Thanks anyway

  • Installing magic mouse

Hello... first time poster.  Be nice to me!
Just had a first generation i-pad and went to the apple store today and bought a wireless keyboard and magic mouse.  I specifically asked the person helping me at the Apple store if the Keyboard and mouse were compatible with the 1st generation i-pad.  I have installed the keypad with no problems but would be grateful for any advice (with any links) of house to install the mouse
    Many thanks

The keyboard is compatible with the iPad, the mouse is not (there is no cursor to move so the mouse would only be of use when entering text).

  • Unable to configure magic mouse

This has been a problem since I got the magic mouse. When I attempt to set it up in preferences it says "no mouse found". However, I am able to pair it and use it as a normal mouse.
I applied the software update that was recommended but now that I read the instructions carefully I see that it says to pair with the mouse BEFORE installing the update and I'm not sure what order I did it in. Does it matter?
Until now I was using a beta version of a 3rd party program but the developer has stopped work on it (it worked perfectly for me without messing around with software updates.)
Has anyone figured out a workable solution?

    Patricia,
In system Preferences > mouse. Compare the screen to the one at the bottom of this page:
    http://www.apple.com/magicmouse/
If you see the demonstration video screen of the gestures than you have the proper software and setup.
If not than try pairing the mouse in System Preferences > Bluetooth > "+" icon below the list.
    Regards,
    Captfred

  • Installing Magic Mouse Broke Trackpad

I have a PowerBook G4 and I can no longer use the Trackpad. I'm not exactly sure when this happened but I believe it might be related to getting a Magic Mouse and installing the software from Apple to use the Magic Mouse. Speculation aside, here are the facts:
The Trackpad preference pane is not visible in System Preferences.
The Trackpad preference pane is still there in:
    /System/Library/PreferencePanes/Trackpad.prefPane
According to System Profiler, the version of Trackpad.prefPane is 1.7.
When I double click Trackpad.prefPane then System Preferences opens and displays this message:
"You cannot open "Trackpad" preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time. You might need to connect a device to your computer to see this preferences pane."
To be specific about the problem: Moving my finger on the trackpad no longer moves the mouse cursor. Clicking the trackpad button does not cause a click.
I usually use a Bluetooth mouse (like the Magic Mouse) so I didn't notice this for a while.

I have the same problem. Anyone out there who has an idea?

  • Unable to install magic trackpad driver on Windows 7 on MBP

I recently purchased a Magic Trackpad and it's working perfectly on the Mac side of my MBP. However, I downloaded the 32-bit driver for my Winfows 7 Bootcamp side and every time I try to run the driver I receive the following error:
    "Windows Installer
The installed product does not match the installation source(s). Until a matching source is provided or the installed product and source are synchronized, this action cannot be performed."
It then tries to point me to the following source "C:\ProgramData\Apple\Installer Cache\Boot Camp 3.0.0\". If I press OK it tells me that the file there is not valid. I also tried pointing it to the OSX install disc in my optical drive and it doesn't work. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!

Hi Stefan, I checked the version on my Boot Camp drivers and they are in fact 3.1. Checking a little further I seem to have found two issues:
    1. It seems that it's not only this, but any type of update I try to do it tries to find the drivers in folder 3.0.0.
    2. The Boot Camp install I'm asking help with is actually one I migrated to my new MBP using winclone. I moved from a 2009 2.4GHz MBP to a 2.66GHz MBP. I tried to update the old MBP's driver and it does so successfully, so this leads me to believe that the winclone install didn't go 100% perfectly. I will try to reformat my Boot Camp partition, reinstall Windows 7 and then try to update to see if this resolves the issue.
Thanks for your help and I'll post back with my results in a couple of days.

  • Magic Mouse - no click on whole surface

    Hello,
I run SL 10.6.2, installed Magic Mouse update nevertheless, installed MagicMouse. Gestures work fine with one exception: I can click left and right, but only with the click noise as any other mouse.
I thought the whole surface will work for a left click, but it does not, only when I push so that the mechanik mouse click start. When I jut tap on the surface, there is no click at all.
Before this I used BT MightyMouse. But this I disconnected and deleted the preference-file for that as well.
    Any ideas?
Am I right, that the click should do by just tapping somewhere on the (left) surface of the mouse?

You can click anywhere on its surface, but you have to press hard enough, so the surface moves down to make a click. The touchpad on Apple laptops works the same way. You have to press enough for the touchpad to move down for it to send a click.
If it sent a click just by touching, you would get accidental clicks when positioning your fingers on it for scrolling, or other gestures.

  • How uninstall Magic Mouse software? due Wacom installer conflict?

I am quite happy with my Magic Mouse but I am 90% certain it is causing the latest Wacom update installer to fail.
I have three OS partitions on my Mac Pro:
    1. Main boot drive: Installed magic mouse....OK, then installed latest Wacom update....failed.
    2. Clone of main boot drive: Installed Wacom update...OK, then installed magic mouse...OK, both working.
    3. Utilities OS: Installed wacom update....OK, then installed magic mouse....OK, both working.
So any help uninstalling the magic mouse mouse software so I can put the wacom update on, then reinstall magic mouse, would be very welcome.
    Thanks

    HI Mike,
Try repairing disk permissions and then try the Wacom software install.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Something I learned years ago with Wacom and Apple mice. Keep the tablet and pen away from the mouse. If I try to use the pen within a foot of the mouse, the entire system freezes. There's definitely a conflict between tablet software and wireless devices. Not sure if that's a help to you or not...
Also, when trying to install the Wacom software, turn the mouse off. See if you can get the Wacom software installed that way.
And if you installed the Magic Mouse update here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL950
Open System Preferences / Software Updates - Installed Software. If that update is listed there, delete it. It might be the culprit easy enough to reinstall.

  • Magic mouse lost at startup, WiFi dropping

    Hello,
since Lion is running nearly each time I wake my iMAC from sleep, the magic mouse is lost and I need to completely reboot.
Yes, I did follow all tipps (delete and install magic mouse new,...). No change.
Additionally the WiFi-connection dropps every few minutes. And most often reconnects when switched off and on again.
And again: yes, I reinstalled the connection totally, no change.
These problems newer occured with SL. So I will not change anything on  the router for the WiFi-problem.
I think Apple need to solve these problems asap, because I read about losts of people having the same sincere problems, because it hinders working...
When will there be a solution?

You are welcome. Those resets frequently fix odd problems.

  • Magic Mouse works properly only on one user Account

I just bought a Magic Mouse to use with my PPC Imac.  I have two users set up on this iMac and I set up the mouse while using one of those user accounts.  By the way I set it up to be a left-handed mouse with the left button being for the secondary (right) click. I got the mouse installed and it wasn't working very smoothly.  Then I discovered that I needed to update the software to the Magic Mouse Update 1.0. That seemed to get it working as fine as it could on this old machine and I was quite happy with it.  However, yesterday I switched to the other user account and the Magic Mouse was acting completely weird.  When I clicked on anything it was like a right click with menus popping up.  In addition, it wouldn't single click at all.  I checked in System Preferences that it was set up the same way as on the other account and it was.  I then tried to switch it back to be a normal right-handed mouse.  That gave me some functioning but it was very inconsistent and frustrating.  If it wasn't for the "old" wireless mouse that I had there were moments when I would have been completely stuck.
Given that it worked fine on the one user account this doesn't seem like a hardward problem to me.  I also installed it on my husband's MacBook Pro running Lion and it works okay in both user accounts.  However, some of the special functions, like Smart Zoom and Mission Control don't seem to be functioning.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Did you ever get this resolved. Same thing. In my admin user account it works but in the one I use most I can't swipe scroll or anything?

Is there any way that i can have my Magic Mouse to run on my PC (Windows 7)?
i am looking for drivers online, but i don't want to install something that Apple may not approve of. I'm sure if there were such a driver, then Apple would have provided it; unless i have missed something.

when one makes the bootcamp driver disc in bootcamp on osx it builds a cd with apple tested drivers for the hardware for windows
