Unable to Install Mountain Lion upadate on Mountain Lion

Trying to get RAW image support in Iphoto by installing :
Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 4.01
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1604
I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.2
When trying to install, the installer starts but I get an error:
Alert: This software is not supported on your system.
System Requirements
OS X 10.8.2 or later
So the installer must be broken. But I cannot find how to report this to apple.

In my opinion, that note about Apple not responding directly is fine.  I've found several different ways to (electronically) send feedback to Apple, and they all have that caveat.  But they all seem to indicate that Apple indeed does pay attention to the messages they receive.

  • Unable to install ARD 3.0 on Mountain Lion

I recently went from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on my MacBook and now I cannot install Apple Remote Desktop 3.3 from disk. I need to install it before I can run the ARD update 3.6.1, which is the version for OS X 10.8.

Try a soft reset.*#7370#, 12345 (this is the default nokia code). Soft reset deletes all your phone data, and restore the original settings

  • Unable to install Epson ICC printer profiles in Lion (access privileges message)

I upgraded to Lion and cannot install Epson ICC printer profiles. When I try to install, the installation is halted with the message that I do not have enough access privileges for this installation. Yes, I am the admin (I checked, as I know this is a known issue). I have the current updates to the O/S and the Epson driver. Specifically, these are printer paper profiles for an Espon Stylus Photo R2800 printer.

The ownership of the /Library/ColorSync directory and its contents changed in Lion.  You acutally do not have enough priviliges as admin to write to that directory anymore.  EPSON's installer does not have the ability to ask you for your password to escalate the admin privileges to root.  You should report this to EPSON and insist that they update their installer.
There is a way to get the files installed, but it is pretty involved.  I will give you the general idea but USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  There is a risk you could break your system and make it unusable.
With those admonitions in mind, here's the general outline.
    1.  Go to /Library/ColorSync.  Highlight the folder and do a Get Info on it.
    2.  Under the Sharing & Permissions portion, give "everyone" the ability to Read & Write.  Then choose to have this applied to all enclosed items.
    3.  Run the EPSON installer(s).  The profiles will now install.
    4.  Change the ownership and permissions for all the installed items useing the Terminal--
For the EPSON folder the command is 'sudo chown -R root:wheel path_to_EPSON_folder'
For each and every item in the EPSON folder, the command is 'sudo chmod 644 path_to_item'
    5.  Open Disk Utility and Repair Permssions.

  • I am unable to install OS Mountain Lion

I am unable to install OS Mountain Lion, when i try to install it says a recovery disk can not be created, visit apple.com/support/no-recovery, is there a way to fix where i can get Mountain Lion?

    Here's the article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
(macjack, I found I don't have permission when I tried to read the appleseed article.)
Bottom line: as macjack suggests, it looks like you're trying to install on a RAID or non-standardly partitioned disk.  The article suggests a lot of Mountain Lion would work this way, but not everything.

  • OS mountain lion- unable to install

while upgrading and installation , system said hard didsk problems which is not repairable ( its been perfectly alright until today ) .. and now unable to install previous LION vers . I installed Lion from app store .. need urgent help please

    Hey jaffsb,
I had the same problem and figured out I had to disable my firmware password by going into recovery mode, then I did a reboot back into recovery mode, repaired my hdd using disk utility and then did the upgrade to mountain lion again without a hitch.
    Hope it helps!

  • Unable to install Mountain Lion because HD is "being used for backups"?

I have been unable to install mountain lion because it is saying that my hard drive is being used for time machine backups. That makes no sense, because I use an external hard drive to backup my computer. I'm not sure why this is happening.

Do you, for some reason, have an item named "Backups.backupdb" on your hard drive? If so, you need to get rid of that in order to install.

  • Unable to install Mountain lion after defense grade erase

    Hello All,
I just sold my 13-inc macbook pro on eBay. As I am paranoid about my privacy, I decided to do a "defense-grade" erase. It took 10 hours after doing a 7 pass process. However, I am unable to install anything on it (Mountain Lion, Lion, Ubuntu). When I try to install Mac OSX I get the error, "Error installing OS X, try reinstalling".  Huh??
Please let me know what I should do. Can I not install anymore? Should I get a new one?
    Thanks,

    Here's what I did:
Plugged in my USB drive and started the computer with the option key pressed. I get one choice "Install OS X" which is from my USB drive. After I got an error message, I can cancelled it and under tools selected "Disk Utility". I then selected one partition and the default P table of GUID. So, this has already been done to the drive.
There is no option to select "Reinstall Mac OS X". All I have is the following:
OS X Installer, File, Edit, Utilities, Window.
Under Utilities, I have Disk Utility, Terminal, Network, Restore from Time Machine. I do not have a time machine backup so that does not work either.
Looking at the Installer Log errors, I find the following lines:
    OS X Installer application started
    1 display(s) found.
    @(#) PROGRAM: Install PROJECT:Install-729
    @(#) PROGRAM: OS X Installer PROJECT:OSInstaller-419

Your target installation drive most likely has a Time Machine folder or Time Machine boot picker file still on it that are blocking the installation. These will need to be gone before the installation process will proceed.
Look for these on the root of the target installation disk:
    /Backups.backupdb
    /tmbootpicker.efi
    and maybe:
    /.apdisk

  • Unable to install Mountain Lion - S.M.A.R.T. errors  My hard disk error?

Unable to install Montain Lion after purchasing form store and download on Mac Pro 13 inch 2.3 Intel i5 OS 10.7.4.  When I am presented with install options, my HD option is dimmed and there is a message: "This disk has S.M.A.R.T. errors.  This disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired.  Back up as much of the data as possible and replace the disk."

Well that's good advice.  SMART errors are only presented when the hard drive is about to die.  This is a dire warning.
You should ensure you have a current backup, and then replace the hard drive.  You may need to take it into an Apple Store... if it's < 3 years old and you have AppleCare they will probably replace it for you.

I am installing the latest update for Mountain lion (the iTunes update) . The screen went light gray, with no progress bars, and has remained that way for several hours. Help!

In this case, hold the Power button until your computer turns off, and then, turn your Mac on again. It looks like your computer got stuck during its restart, so it shouldn't harm anything on your computer
