Unable to install Oracle 10.2.0.1 Companion CD on Linux on Power

I have been unsuccessful in trying to install the 10.2.01 Companion CD (to install HTMLDB and HTTP server) on a new RHEL 4.5 Linux on Power. Please tell me what I am missing...
- Downloaded Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux PowerPC (10201_companion_lin_ppc.cpio) ...finally got the right version of the companion CD!
Followed the documentation in the oracle Database Companion CD quick Installation guide 10g release 2 for Linux on POWER (#B25152-01)
Also looked at the Metalink 317085.1 (Don't think that this applies since it's for Linux X86 systems)
When I issue the command runInstaller I get the following:

What the heck am I missing...... (frustrated since it's taken me 5 days to try and figure this out...I am sure it's simple and staring me in the face, but I can't see it) Thanks in advance for helping.

Was able to resolve the issue by downloading the 32-bit version of JAVA's SDK from IBM and issue the runInstaller command pointing to this location of java's jre:
1. Install IBM Java 1.4.2 32-bit :
IBMJava2-142-ppc32-SDK-1.4.2-1.0 or higher (IBMJava2-142-ppc32-JRE-1.4.2-4)
From: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux140/older_download.html
2. Run the installer with -jreLoc pointing to the location where Java 32-bit is installed. % /products/Disk1/runInstaller -jreLoc /opt/IBMJava2-ppc32-142/jre

  • Unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat

    Hi,
I am unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat, tried many times. While installing i get following errors-
"Error in invoking target install of makefile
    /usr/oracle/9.0.1/plsql/lib/ins-plsql.mk"
"error in invoking target ioracle of makefile
    /usr/oracle/9.0.1/rdbms/lib/ins-rdbms.mk"
"Error loading native library : libnjni.so"
Installation halts while configuring Net Confugration Assistant....
    Any workaround ???
    Thanks in advance.

There are many versions of RedHat. Your post indicates you are using one of them, but your post really does not give a hint as to which one. Funny thing is - different versions have different install requirements.
I really don't understand why operating system version is such a big secret. Especially since it is logically so critical to installation issue. Even when installing on Windows, the first questions is 'which Windows'.
You have, of course, followed the suggestions at http://www.puschitz.com and noted the errors and workarounds, have you not.
Especially about things like packages and versions.

  • Unable to install Oracle Developer Suite 10 on SuSe Linux 11.0

    Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 11g on SuSe Linux 11.0 with no issues. I am unable to install Oracle Developer Suite10.12.02 on same (SuSe 11.0). The installation gets to about 94% and then fails with the following error:

ps. What's also a bit odd, is that the overall exit status of the installation is regarded as succesful...

    Hi Hub,
    Done that, nothing:

On the off-chance that it had something to do with installing Oracle 11.0 with ODS Developer 10.0, I've rolled my database installation back too, so now I have:

    Hi,
I am having difficulty installing Oracle 8i 8.1.1.6 on Redhat Linux 7. The installation process runs well and the last stage when the Database Configuration Assistant is running. It successfully copies the database files but when it reaches 80% (Initisialing database) it freezes and does not go any further. Does anybody know what good be going wrong here.

  • Installing Oracle 9i (version 9.0.1) on RedHat Linux 7.2

    Hi All,
I've been trying to install Oracle 9i version 9.0.1 on RedHat
Linux 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7-10. This RH 7.2 is running on my
Compaq Armada M700 laptop that has 800MHz CPU and 256MB of RAM.
I have 10GB of diskspace on this laptop.
Someone in this group posted a howto on how to install Oracle 9i
on RedHat Linux 7.2 but for some reasons, Oracle Universal Installer
still hangs at 74% of the installation. Here is what I did:
    1) Install RH 7.2 on the laptop. I also make sure that make, ar,
ld, nm and C for unix got installed when I installed RH 7.2.
I also verify by using the command "which make", "which ar",
"which ld" and "which nm" and they are also in the /usr/bin
directory. I also make the /tmp partition to be 800MB and
the swap file to be 500MB,
    2) Modify the /etc/hosts file. This part is easy. I can ping
both the hostname, FQDN and the IP address of the laptop from
both locally and remotely (tested with SSH connection),
    3) Go to blackdown.org and download jdk118_v3
    4) Uncompress and put it in the /usr/local/jdk118_v3 directory,
    5) Make a softlink ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    6) Download and install package:
    rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.10.0.18-1.i386.rpm
    7) In /proc/sys/kernel/sem file, I modify the third column from 32 to 128,
    8) Download and install package:
    rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.11.90.0.8-9.i386.rpm
    9) Download Linux9i_Disk1.cpio, Linux9i_Disk2.cpio and Linux9i_Disk1.cpio
    to my laptop hard-drive,
    10)Run cpio -idmv < Linux9i_Disk1.cpio (for 2 and 3 well),
11)Create a user account "oracle". This "oracle" account belongs to
group "oracle". Furthermore, I also create a directory /oracle
and change the owner and group permission to account "oracle"
12)Start the installer ( as Oracle User ) by typing ./runinstaller
13)The installer will ask you to run a started script as root ,
you may open a shell and type su then open Nautilus (
if using Gnome or File manager as super user if using KDE )
and drag the noted file to the shell screen and press enter,
after it is ended continue with the installer (done),
14)It asked to supply JDK home directory then it is /usr/local/java (done)
15)Unix group Name ( to update Oracle software ) : (I leave blank here)
    16)Oracle home is : /oracle/9.0.1
    /oracle/orainventory
From what the poster said, it should work; however, it did NOT work
for me. I've tried and tried but no avail. I have plenty of disk
space so I don't think space is an issue here.
    Please help.

    3) Go to blackdown.org and download jdk118_v3
    4) Uncompress and put it in the /usr/local/jdk118_v3 directory,
    5) Make a softlink ln -s /usr/local/jdk118_v3 /usr/local/java
    6) Download and install package:
    rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.10.0.18-1.i386.rpm
    7) In /proc/sys/kernel/sem file, I modify the third column from 32 to 128,
    8) Download and install package:
    rpm -Uvh force nodeps binutils-2.11.90.0.8-9.i386.rpm
    9) Download Linux9i_Disk1.cpio, Linux9i_Disk2.cpio and Linux9i_Disk1.cpio
    to my laptop hard-drive,
    10)Run cpio -idmv < Linux9i_Disk1.cpio (for 2 and 3 well),
11)Create a user account "oracle". This "oracle" account belongs to
group "oracle". Furthermore, I also create a directory /oracle
and change the owner and group permission to account "oracle"
12)Start the installer ( as Oracle User ) by typing ./runinstaller
13)The installer will ask you to run a started script as root ,
you may open a shell and type su then open Nautilus (
if using Gnome or File manager as super user if using KDE )
and drag the noted file to the shell screen and press enter,
after it is ended continue with the installer (done),
14)It asked to supply JDK home directory then it is /usr/local/java (done)
15)Unix group Name ( to update Oracle software ) : (I leave blank here)
    16)Oracle home is : /oracle/9.0.1
    /oracle/orainventory
From what the poster said, it should work; however, it did NOT work
for me. I've tried and tried but no avail. I have plenty of disk
space so I don't think space is an issue here.
    Please help.

  • Installing oracle 10g and 11g client  on the same Linux RHEL 5.4 host

Is it possible to install Oracle 10g and 11g client on the same Linux RHEL 5.4 host and have the application switch between 10g and 11g? and how would the 10g and 11g be installed?

    Thanks for your reply.
Typeically if 10g is installed in /home/roacle/product/10.2.0, are you saying that for 11g, it would be /home/oracle/product/11.0.0 ?
How about switching the application? Does changing the ORACLE_HOME and PATH environment variable setting enough ? Let's say from
    ORACLE_HOME=/home/oracle/product/10.2.0/client_1 to /home/oracle/product/11.0.0/client_1

What is the IP address of the client from which you started the ssh session ... the machine that you are sitting at and expecting to see output? It is the IP address of that machine that you need to set in your DISPLAY variable. That tells the remote machine to redirect display output to the IP address specified by the DISPLAY variable.

One of our DBAs had the answer. Its a bug relating to p4 processors.
    1. Rename the file symcjit.dll to symcjit.old
    2. Change the following line in the "oraparam.ini" file to read:
    JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
They said someone found it in Oracle KB article 131299.1 but I have still been unable to find the Oracle KB. Perhaps a "Knowledge Base" link should be added to the support or resources section.

I have attempted to burn it onto a CD_Rom and install through the control panel and the same occurs.
I am not sure what is causing this problem. Is there any why I could request the software in a CD as opposed to a zip file? What could be causing this problem? Is the machine a P4? there is a known problem

  • Unable to install Oracle VM 3.0.2 to an iSCSI disk

    Dear users,
I am trying to install Oracle VM 3.0.2 Server on an iSCSI disk without luck. Every time that i try it, console (alt+f4) shows me this error:
"connection1:0: Could not create connection due to crc32c loading error. Make sure the crc32 module is built as a module or into the kernel"
    "session1: couldn't create a new connection"
"Connection1:0 to [target iqn........, portal: 1.1.1.1,3260] through [iface: default] is shutdown.
    Seeing console alt+f3 appears:
    "iSCSI initiator name iqn......"
    "iSCSI startup"
It seems like anaconda installer doesn't sees ip address configuration. I have tried to pass "asknetwork" option when I launch setup, but anaconda never demands network configruation. After that I have configured ethernet device on console alt+f2. Maybe is this the problem or is not possible to install Oracle VM 3.0.2 on an iSCSI disk??
    Thanks.

Just to let you know that I actually have an SR open with Oracle about this.
I managed to track down that the problem is due to OVM 3's inability to read iBFT (iSCSI Boot Firmware Table) during install.
This was also the case with OVM 2.x - but as Oracle Linux 5.x boots via iSCSI fine via IBFT (we have OVM 3 Manager running OL6 booting from SAN fine) - we stupidly assumed that with OVM3 - being based on a newer kernel, the iBFT stuff would just work.
    It didn't!
The only iSCSI booting Oracle support currently is via a full blown HBA. To clarify this is not one of those new NICs with an embedded iSCSI initiator in the ROM - we're talking about an uber expensive HBA that can load the entire iSCSI stack and presents your iSCSI LUN as a local disk.
My SR is now over a month old and unfortunately there has been very little progress made with it.
But when it comes I will be sure to post it here.....
I'm really surprised more people haven't asked for this functionality. Seems a bit of a no brainer....
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Unable to install Oracle XE Client on Ubuntu 8.04 - "no such user"

    Hi,
I've just installed Oracle XE client on my desktop machine (64bit Ubuntu 8.04), and I had to manually create some users and groups:
    sudo groupadd nobody
    sudo groupadd oinstall
    sudo useradd -s /bin/bash -g oinstall -G dba oracle
    sudo passwd oracle
before the install would complete, due to what appears to be incorrect arguments to useradd by the installer.
It took quite a lot of hunting to find the above, and I'm a little concerned since no one else seems to have had the same problems.
    I installed using:
    $ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-client_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
(the force-architecture was required for the server install on my server, so I did the same here)
I read the install instructions on the oracle pages
(http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/xe/files/install.102/b25144/toc.htm#BABFEDEI) and didn't see anything about having to manually create these accounts, and I seem to have followed the rest of the instructions correctly.
What did I do wrong? I'm probably going to have to do it again sometime, and I'm a little concerned that I might have just been causing trouble for myself by doing those extra manual steps.
Note that I had to provide a password for the oracle user; how does oracle manage to log in using this account, since I didn't have to provide it anywhere?
    Any help/advice would be appreciated,
    many thanks,
    William
