Unable to install OS x mountain lion, startup disc missing.

Out of nowhere my internet crashes, then right after my laptop crashes and loads really slow. I tried to erase and restore but error appears every time and when I try to re install os x mountain lion, no disc appears for selection to install the hardware. No clue what to do and I just had my Hard drive replaced 2 months ago because it was ruined, I hope it didn't break again this fast.

  • Unable to install OS X Mountain Lion after HD clean...PLEASE HELP

Ok, I have two issues and hopefully I can have them resolved here.
I currently live in Italy, the local Apple store recently replaced my HD about 6-8 months ago and I reinstalled all my files using time machine when I took it home.
Recently it began running very slow (getting the pinwheel when I try to simply use Safari).  I took it to an apple store when I was back in America and was told I needed to erase my HD and start over.  When the HD was replaced in Italy, the apple store installed Moutain lion free of charge for me.  After my clean erases, when I try to install Mountain Lion using the disk utilities, I am unable to because apple does not recognize my apple id as purchasing this software.  How to I use my 2007 macbook pro to purchase and download the latest mountain lion when I am only able to get disk utilities to open?
Second issue, since the HD was replaced here in Italy, everything displayed is in Italian.  is there anyway to change it to english so I can understand what it is telling me? I am wearing out my google translate.
Thank you for any help you can offer.

You could try calling apple, 1-800-275-2273, and see if they'll give you a free Mountain Lion, based on your story.
or call the store in Italy and get their Apple ID. But this probably violates something in the User Agreement.
or you could just cough up 20 bucks and buy it. This much aggravation is worth way more than 20 dollars.
when you install it you can specify English.
after you download ML, but before you install it, make an install flash drive with Lion DiskMaker , so you'll have a copy ready next time this happens.

  • Unable to install os x mountain lion

    Hi folks,
I just bought macbook pro 15" retina display set yesterday from Epicentre (authorized retailer in Singapore)
When I reached home i reformatted it, but when i tried to reinstall the os x mountain lion, it said my apple id has not purchased the lion.
Fair enough, maybe because I had not registered my product.
After registration, i tried to install again but the same message occured.
Now i am left with os x-less macbook pro
Do I need to wait for a confirmation email from Apple? If there is one, how long do I need to wait? I did not received any reply since last night.
Thanks a lot for your help!

No, you don't have to purchase it again if it was already loaded at purchase. Follow the following steps to reinstall the software.
Boot from your Recovery HD partition by restarting your Mac while holding down the cmd+R keys. The OS X Utilities window appears. Select Reinstall OS X, and click Continue. The OS X Mountain Lion splash screen appears. Click Continue. A sheet appears informing you that your computer’s eligibility needs to be verified by Apple. Click Continue to begin the process of installing or reinstalling OS X. If you’re not connected to the Internet, you’ll be asked to choose a Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu in the top-right corner.
The Mountain Lion software license agreement screen appears. Read it and click Agree.A sheet drops down, asking whether you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Yes, you did just click Agree; this time you’re being asked to confirm that you indeed clicked the Agree button. If you don’t click Agree you can’t go any farther, so I advise you to click Agree now.
Choose the disk on which you want to reinstall OS X by clicking its icon once in the pane where you select a disk.If only one suitable disk is available you won’t have to choose; it will be selected for you automatically.Click the Install button.
A sheet asks for your Apple ID and password. Type them in the appropriate fields; click Sign In, and your Mountain Lion installation (or reinstallation) begins. The operating system takes 30 to 60 minutes to install, so now might be a good time to take a coffee break. When the install is finished, your Mac restarts itself. If you were reinstalling OS X on a hard disk that it had been installed on previously, you’re done.Your Mac will reboot and you can begin using your new, freshly installed (and ideally trouble-free) copy of OS X Mountain Lion.If you’re installing Mountain Lion on a hard disk for the first time, however, you still have one last step to complete. After your Mac reboots, the Setup Assistant window appears. You need to work your way through the Setup Assistant’s screens.

  • My Macbook Pro wont startup after installing OS X MOUNTAIN LION

I just installed os x mountain lion on my laptop and it keeps rebooting itself with an error message, it wont let me do anything else? please help

If you can't boot in the usual way, try a safe boot. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During startup, you’ll see a progress bar, and then the login screen, which appears even if you normally log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is slower than normal, and some things won’t work at all.
Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.
If you're able to boot, launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

cannot install mountain lion. error "This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application is damaged, and can't be used to install OS X."

You do meet the hardware requirements. Otherwise you wouldn't have been able to purchase ML.
If you're connected wirelessly to your router, connect with Ethernet.
If you're connecting through a proxy, connect directly.
Boot in safe mode (shift key down at startup) and try again.

  • Clean install of OSX Mountain Lion stuck on "5.5hrs."

I'm trying to clean install OS X Mountain Lion on a MacBook Pro after having to erase my mac partition. I lefft the install to run over night and came back to barely making any progress stuck with 5.5 hours left.
I thought erasing the Mac partion that I assuemed to be corrupt would speed things up. But even in Recovery Mode, the Mac is incredibly slow.

You're using Startup Manager. Boot OS X Recovery instead.
From the Mac OS X Utilities screen, choose "Reinstall Mac OS X".
"Clean install" is vague so reinstalling OS X may not accomplish what you seek, and it's not clear what your USB drive contains. More specific guidance can be provided if you explain what you intend to do.

Tried to install update to Mountain Lion and get this message: OSXUpdCombo 10-1.8 image data corrupted.

Try booting into the Safe Mode.  Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once. You can download from the Safe Mode.

  • I have installed OS X Mountain LION and cannot open anymore Microsoft Word or Excel

I have installed OS X Mountain LION on my MacBook Pro 13" and cannot open anymore Microsoft Word or Excel ? Could you help me with this problem? Thank you.

Why suggest "ignore iWork"? I use iWork exclusively now, since dumping MS Office and I like it.
On its own it's fine, as a replacement for Office it's mediocre. Unable to save in Office format you are pushed into exporting (extra steps) simply to create an Office compatible file. Pages barely renders a Word document correctly (a trait also shared by Libre/Open Office). Numbers is a very poor substitute for Excel (the free ones are better).
And for all this you are expected to pay, whereas the other alternatives do a better job (with MS Office files) without a financial insult.
If Office is not in the equation I recommend iWork.

MacBook upgrade possibilities - https://discussions.apple.com/message/19577869 - "The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion."
Why?  Good question.  I am a strong believer in not upgrading just because something new comes out, especially if you are running older equipment.  I would say unless you see a need for it, just stick with Snow Leopard until something comes along that absolutely requires Mountain Lion.

  • Black screen and looping after installing and updating Mountain Lion on Macbook pro 2011 13 "i5 2.4Ghz

After first installing the new Mountain Lion upgrading Lion on my Macbook Pro was a little slow, so I decided to format and install Mountain Lion via a thumb drive. After installation on my Macbook Pro was restarting all the time and showing a black screen with codes on the screen. I decided to reformat and reset the PRAM, and that seems to have worked. Occasionally a black screen appears with the codes and my macbook restarts again. Last night I updated the Mountain Lion and error and looping retornartam. Is there a hardware problem?
    thank you

Before you upgrade, make sure all your software supports it based on post July, 25, 2012 reports on

Reports prior to this date are unreliable, as they are likely with beta releases of Mountain Lion to developers. Other pitfalls to realize include:

  • Do I loose all the contact on my mac if I install OS X Mountain Lion

    Hi,
I want to install OS X Mountain Lion but I wonder if I loose all the content i.e. file and program that I have already on my mac. In that case I have to make backup of all the contents.

If you have Lion and use iCloud for Contacts and Calendar, then they will still be there after installing ML.  If not, then it would be a good idea to archive them.  Go to File>Export>Addressbook archive for Contacts and in iCal the same File>Export.  Put these files in a backup folder somewhere for safe keeping.  I do the same for Safari bookmarks, Google Earth Places etc, because it can be a bind to lose all your hard work.
Having said that, Setup Assistant will normally transfer your data to the new OS during the installation process without problems.

The reason Win 7 looks bad is because of your poor monitor.
I run Windows 7 on my 1920 x 1200 pixels 17" MacBook Pro and it looks just as good as OS X.
The secret is to get a monitor with high pixel per square inch resolution, then any picture or graphics looks great.
Nearly all the available eye candy on OS X is available on Windows with hacks.

Windows has more software and it's versions are supported for a decade on average, the hardware is significantly less expensive and in the towers, customizable.
Apple just displays all fancy in one package and then charges 3x the price for the same performance as a PC.
Your not missing much, there isn't any compeling need to run OS X on your PC, it's a hassle anyway.
