Unable to install programs on lion

I've been unable to install several programs on a fresh install of OS X Lion 10.7.2  Rosetta Stone, Office for Mac 2011, Final Cut Express 4.  I really need some help.  I've checked for all updates.
Thanks,
Chris

No Entropywins, I'm not telling you not to try to help at all.
Permissions is a good thought, it may well be a permissions issue.
I'm just correcting a couple of inaccuracies, which can be helpful to you in future posts.
There is no need to run Repair Permissions more than once. Permissions are either repaired or they're not.
Most of the errors in Permissions are not errors but notifications that permissions have been changed. Also there are spurious errors.
Disk Utility > Repair Disk, on the other hand may take multiple passes to fix a file system error.
In either case, Verifying after Repairing will only come up with the same message the repair came up with.

  • I am unable to install OS Mountain Lion

I am unable to install OS Mountain Lion, when i try to install it says a recovery disk can not be created, visit apple.com/support/no-recovery, is there a way to fix where i can get Mountain Lion?

    Here's the article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
(macjack, I found I don't have permission when I tried to read the appleseed article.)
Bottom line: as macjack suggests, it looks like you're trying to install on a RAID or non-standardly partitioned disk.  The article suggests a lot of Mountain Lion would work this way, but not everything.

  • UNABLE TO INSTALL PROGRAMS

I have been trying to update a 4 year old iMac. I have a stand-alone copy of Tiger and an upgrade of Leopard. I wanted to format the HDD and install Tiger and then use the upgrade to install Leopard. Neither of these disks would 'mount' on the desktop and when I tried to boot from them the computer just froze and I had a job retrieving the program disk from the machine. I then gave up and tried to install my copy of iLife '08 this disk would not mount either. I had to leave the computer doing nothing at all and disappointing my friend who had expected more from me. It really bugs me not to be able to do anything at all. These disks seem to work on other machines. Does anyone have an answer to this problem?

Your system info confirms you have a G4 iMac. Therefore, you need to re-post over in the iMac (Flat Panel) Forums.

  • Title: Error: Access is denied, unable to remove printer and also unable to install programs

    Hi Tony,
Please assist me with the following information releted to this issue:
    1. Is your computer and printer connected on a network or domain?
    2. Are you logged in as an administrator on the computer?
    3. Which are the programs which you are not able to install on your computer and also provide us the exact error whne you try to install the programs?
I would suggest you to refer to the suggestion provided by Waseemulla Shariff replied on March 17, 2012 in the following link:
Once you successfully delete the printer, you may try to install the printer drivers from your printer manufacturer website and check the functionality. Refer to the following link:
If you are not able to install any program on your computer, I would suggest you to refer the suggestions provided by Sandeep Dsouza replied on June 13, 2012 in the following link:
    Hi Yaqub
    Domain
    Yes administrator
If I try to remove the printer icon I get a warning access denied and then the printer is off line and cant be restored to default or used / I had to restored windows and now are able to print / fax / copy but still no scan
I then followed to the letter un plugging the printer / removing all drivers which I don't think worked / re installing from the web site / only to be told down load unsuccessful with a red cross next to the driver downloads
So nothing seems to work / I tried the suggestions for Waseemulla / Sandeep still nothing

  • "No Child Processes" - unable to install programs

    Hi All
For some funny reason, I can no longer install any new programs. No new updates installed, nothing really has changed.
I tried to install Google Chrome and after loading the .dmg file all I got was a message "No child processes". So I assumed Chrome had a bug. Then I tried to install Google Earth, same problem. So I assumed it was a Google bug.
However I tried to install Firefox and the same thing has happened. Can't seem to find any solution on here or on the web... any ideas?
    Thanks (and Happy New Year!)

Sounds like some process(s) are consuming all the available process slots.
One common way for this to happen is trying to run everything at once and not quiting apps that are no longer in use.
Another way is a poorly written process that constantly forks child processes, but never issues the wait() call to collect their completion status. As a result these child processes continue to exist as zombies until either the parent process issues a wait() system call, or the parent process dies.
You might want to look at Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor and see if anything looks strange.

  • HT4929 I am unable to install OS XLion and get a message that it can't be installed on Disk Mackintosh HD because a recovery system can't be created. I am then referred to apple support but am unable to find anything which can help. Can someone help pleas

Unable to install OS X Lion as "...it can't be installed on Disk Mackintosh HD because recovery system can't be created. Visit www.apple......"
Visiting the web pages does not help me can someone please point me in the right direction ?

OK. You have a Boot Camp partition which is why the issue. See the following:
It seems the issue is that the space at the "bottom" of your available space when Lion installs it's partition is already occupied by BootCamp. The fix was to go into Disk Utility; Select your Hard Drive; Select Partition; Move the bottom of your main partition "up" a bit to create a space for Lion; close Disk Utility; Install Lion; once Lion is successfully installed, go back into Disk Partition and drag the bottom of your main partition back "down" to the bottom of the window.
In your case use Disk Utility to "shrink" your OS X partition a little more than 1 GB.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired empty space. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
Remember that you only need to shrink the OS X partition a little more than 1 GB. Now, when you try the Mountain Lion installation the installer will be able to make the Recovery HD.

  • Users with Administrator rights not being allowed to install programs.

I have 3 users in my office that are not able to download and install programs due to a security prompt that says that they are unable to install the program due to not having administrator rights. But in the users menu the user accounts are setup with
full administrator rights. Is this a common problem?

    Hi,
Are they domain administrator or local administrator? Is there any group policy restriction?

  • Unable to install Mountain lion after defense grade erase

    Hello All,
I just sold my 13-inc macbook pro on eBay. As I am paranoid about my privacy, I decided to do a "defense-grade" erase. It took 10 hours after doing a 7 pass process. However, I am unable to install anything on it (Mountain Lion, Lion, Ubuntu). When I try to install Mac OSX I get the error, "Error installing OS X, try reinstalling".  Huh??
Please let me know what I should do. Can I not install anymore? Should I get a new one?
    Thanks,

    Here's what I did:
Plugged in my USB drive and started the computer with the option key pressed. I get one choice "Install OS X" which is from my USB drive. After I got an error message, I can cancelled it and under tools selected "Disk Utility". I then selected one partition and the default P table of GUID. So, this has already been done to the drive.
There is no option to select "Reinstall Mac OS X". All I have is the following:
OS X Installer, File, Edit, Utilities, Window.
Under Utilities, I have Disk Utility, Terminal, Network, Restore from Time Machine. I do not have a time machine backup so that does not work either.
Looking at the Installer Log errors, I find the following lines:
    OS X Installer application started

  • Lost applications symbol and unable to install lion

lost applications symbol and unable to install lion. Do I have to go back to original installation of operating system.  If I do will I have to reinstall all programs?

    A couple of questions:
Are you really on 10.5.8 (as shown in your profile)? You need to be on 10.6.8 to install Lion.
What exactly does the "lost applications symbol" mean? You mean it disappeared from the dock? Or is your Applications folder gone? Open a Finder window and see if you can find the Applications folder.

  • I am unable to install the latest update to iTunes, I get constant error messages, even when I attempt to uninstall iTunes completely and start afresh, iTunes is still listed in my program files on my hard drive and the shortcut is still on my desktop!?

Is there a bug with the latest update to iTunes because I am unable to install it, I get constant error messages if I try to open it after installing

    Hey there Mambo822,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after installing a recent update. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?

  • Unable to install iTunes 10.5 on Win 7 laptop - "Problem with Windows Installer program"

I get the following when trying to install version 10.5
I have uninstalled everything Apple, emptied temp files, restarted the computer and I'm still unable to install the lasted iTunes.
    Any thoughts?

    1. Go to softpedia.com
    2. In the search box in softpedia.com web site type in 'Windows Installer Cleanup Utility'. Click on GO
3  On the next page, at the bottom you will see in blue 'Windows Installer CleanUp Utility 2.5.0.1 by Microsoft'
4 Click on that link and it will take you to another page. On the left side you will see a 'download' button in blue colour. Click on that button and it will take you to the next page.
5 Click on link that reads: 'Softpedia Mirror (US) exe', A download window will appear. Click on 'save file'.
6 Install 'Windows Installer ClenaUp Utility' program.
7 After installing program, open up the program and scroll down the list till you find 'Apple Software Update'
8 Highlight it and click remove.
9 Now you can install itunes 10.5
This is exactly what I did and it worked for me like a charm. I even updated my iphone with IOS 5 tonight.
There is another way which I learned later which is easier and faster. I am running Windows 7. Go to 'Control Panel'. Scroll down to 'Programs and Features' and click on it. Scroll down till you see 'Apple Software Update' and right click on it and click 'uninstall' and then install itunes 10.5. That should work also. I've heard that some people can't see it in control panel so the other way would be to do as I did and download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. I hope I've made this as simple as possible for you. Good luck.

  • Unable to install Lion OS on MacbookPro.

I accidentally erased my mac hardrive in the recovery menu as I was trying to install a fresh version of Lion OS on a Macbook Pro I bought second hand.
I tried to boot from the internet recovery option which gets me back into the recovery menu, however when selecting the option to do a fresh install I am running into a problem.
When I enter my itunes/apple ID to complete a fresh install of the Lion OS I am told I have not purchased Lion and therefore the installation cannot proceed. As I bought the computer second hand I hadn't purchased Lion OS however I thought I could solve this issue by purchasing Lion OS on the apple website (the purchase was linked to my itunesaccount and I received redemption codes etc) and I am still unable to proceed using my AppleID/itunes account. I keep getting the same error.
    Any ideas?
I was going to try and download my purchase via the App store, however I can't use the Macbook Pro to do this (for obvious reasons) and my only other option is my 6 yr old Macbook which runs Tiger... And I am unable to access the app store from what I can see on itunes..
I am not sure if I should be ringing customer support or billing for this issue because it could be related to my itunes purchase?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am assuming you are trying to install the desk top software, if so, and you have the software on a disk, or saved on your computer you should not need the internet to install it.
Can you give us a little more info?
    Terry
