Unable to Install Quicktime 7 Update

I've tried several times to update the current version of Quicktime but each time I get the message that the current version can not be uninstalled. I've tried Add/Remove in XP as well as a stand-alone uninstaller but neither can remove Quicktime. I would appreciate any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem. I could use the brute force method of just deleting the Quicktime folder but that would leave stuff in the registry and would be a bad idea all around I think.

Hi Joanne,
If you haven't seen it already, there's a solution to some of the QuickTime 7.1 uninstall problems. See "cannot uninstall Quicktime" posted on page 2 of this forum by 'shaidul'. Not sure if it will solve your problem but I followed the advice given there by another member and it worked for me. I was able to finally remove Quicktime. Read the message and then go to this URL to download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp- Utility.shtml
The program is free from MIcrosoft. Hope it works for you.

  • Macbook (late 2006) RSS unable to install SMC firmware update

    Hello,
I bought my macbook on the 27th of December, and the first week it worked fine. Then started the RSS. I did some googling and found out some stuff about RSS, tried to install the SMC firmware update but it would just tell me that I don't need the update. After two weeks of constant RSS:ing I called applecare and told the guy about the problem, he told me to try to update the SMC and if I can't do it bring it in for service.
Monday the 15th of January I went to the macstation in downtown Vancouver and told them about the trouble, they tried to boot it, and it actually booted but after like 3 minutes the macbook crashed. For about 10 minutes two guys tried to boot it and so on, but they didn't get it to boot. So they took it in for service and somebody was going to check out the macbook and see if it would need a replacement logic board - which it did. So on Monday they ordered the logic board, and today Monday 22nd of January I got it back. Now the thing that bothers me is that when I now try to update the SMC firmware (my current version is btw 1.13f3) it still just says that This computer does not need this update. oh well - i went to apples support page to try to see if there would be a newer release of the smc and then I noticed that in the bottom of the SMC firmware 1.1 update page it says:
Note: This update is only or the original MacBook, and will not install on a MacBook (Late 2006).
    Then I really was like W T F?!
I would assume that people who work for apple would know that the SMC update will not update on a computer from late 2006, but nobody ever mentioned this to me.
I've now had the computer for about an hour and the CPU temperature is at about 50 degrees celcius, with firefox, msn and a terminal open... about 5% cpu load.
What I'm really wondering is that is there anyone who has similar problems with a macbook late 2006? I guess I'll just have to see if it works and just like I told the guy at macstation, if it starts RSS:ing again I'll be banging on their door

  • I am unable to install the newest update for itunes and quicktime because of a bonjour error about path not being located

I have windows 7 and I have been trying to install the newest update for itunes and quicktime but I keep receiving the same Bonjour error. I even tried to do it manually and no luck. I also tried to unistall bonjour but it would not even allow me to unistall it either. No matter what I do I get the same error listed below:
The path C:\users\owner\appdata\local\apple\apple software update\bonjour64.msi cannot be found. verify that you have access to this location and try again or try to find the installation package "bonjour64.msi" in a folder from which you can install the product bonjour.
I would greatly appreciate any help because this appears whether i am trying to install the updates or remove bonjour to reinstall. I am stuck.
    Thank You in advance!!!

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on 25 June 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • I am unable to install the latest update to iTunes, I get constant error messages, even when I attempt to uninstall iTunes completely and start afresh, iTunes is still listed in my program files on my hard drive and the shortcut is still on my desktop!?

Is there a bug with the latest update to iTunes because I am unable to install it, I get constant error messages if I try to open it after installing

    Hey there Mambo822,
It sounds like you are unable to open iTunes after installing a recent update. I would recommend the troubleshooting in the following article:
iTunes 11.1.4 for Windows: Unable to install or open
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
    Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
    Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
    Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • Unable to install Adobe Air Update

I am unable to install an Adobe Air update.  I am running Windows7, getting error code 80040154.  Could it be Kapersky anti virus software blocking?

Thank you for your help.  I have suspended Kapersky but I cannot find Air when I search in the Programs and when I try to install I now get a message saying 'it may be your administrator blocking you'.  I am the only user and set up as the Administrator but do not know how to check if this is the case.
I have managed to install the application that needs Air on an old XP notebook.  Much Appreciation for your help. RJ

  • Unable to install Quicktime 7.0.2

This problem arose when I tried to install iTunes 5 (that didn't work) and also when I tried iTunes 5.0.1.4 (that didn't work either). Amongst other errors, they failed to install Quicktime 7.
So I tried the standalone Quicktime 7.0.2 installer. Just for a change ... that didn't work.
The installation failed with the message "Error 1402. Could not open key: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Quicktime. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel".
Selecting the key in RegEdit tells me that "You do not have permission to view the current permission settings for QuickTime, but you can make permission changes". However, it won't let me save any changes because "Access is denied".
I've already uninstalled QuickTime 6.5, restarted and manually removed the QuickTime folder from Program Files. I've also read through numerous posts in this forum but with no luck.
After many happy years as a Mac owner and iTunes-running PC owner, I'm starting to get somewhat annoyed with this failure to install QuickTime. And don't get me started on the iTunes install debacle.
Anyway, that's a lengthy summary of my problem. Big thanks to anyone who can help me resolve it. I really want to put some new music on my iPod and fixing QuickTime seems very necessary!

This was a difficult install for me it took a few days, I'll relate to you the things I did and hopefully it installs for you.
Where it wouldn't install at first I updated the XP OS to SP2, I don't now if you have SP2. But my thought was where QT7 is a new program it may require the latest updates for XP, and SP2 updates windows installer to 3.0
I had tryed checking permissions everywhere, including the registry. I'd change a permission to allow if it weren't already, and try the installer again. When it didn't work I'd replace the permission back to what is was. Well that didn't work.
I went ahead and removed everything QT from the computer including anything in the registry. And downloaded a new installer for QT7 standalone.
This is when I came across Sawyer's post on windows installer clean up. I went ahead and download the program, 7.0.2 showed up in it and I did the remove. Went back and ran the QT7 installer and finally it installed.

another topic there were hint to check date and time, I checked mine it's ok, on default I have set for automatically but I even tried with manual settings - no solution. I am using Visual Studio 2013 with SP 4 Community Edition. I tried do this on both my
PC and Laptop (windows 8.1 x64). I can without problem deploy application on device. I would be very grateful for any help.

    Hi DeadStarlin,
Are both the computer and the phone connected to the Internet? On your computer, make sure that your web browser does not have
Work offline enabled. Also, you cannot connect through a proxy server that redirects to a login page; for example, in a hotel or an airport.
Is the phone turned on and the screen unlocked?
Is your Microsoft account information correct and valid?
If the above information still can not help, please try to restart your phone and computer to see if it works.
    Best Regards,

  • Unable to install Quicktime and itunes

    Hi,
I am getting beyond despair and desperate for help on this please (I have spent hours and hours and still no further forward).
I am running XP with service pack 3 installed. Windows updates are up to date.
When iTunes 9 first came out it wanted to update but returned an error: -
"The installation of QuickTime did not complete successfully. ITunes requires QuickTime"
I therefore took the advice posted on Apples support site to download and install QuickTime separately.
Attempting the Quicktime installation first, after installing the Apple Application Support and Apple Software Update elements (I can see these in the add/remove programmes utlility) the installation crashes with the error message-
"The installer encountered errors before the required operation for QuickTime could be completed. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again".
I have since followed the advice here: -
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA44469
    and here
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
    - this includes all items through to and including the Additional Troubleshooting.
In addition, I have searched for and deleted all the .msi files relating to iTunes, QuickTime etc.
One thing that I could not do is to attempt an install through Safe Mode. Windows would not allow it (even though I was logged on as administrator).
Where do I go from here?
Please help -life's too short to loose 2 days getting Itune to work!

    Great catch, Diane!
Following hard drive problem a few months ago, I had reinstalled XP onto a new primary drive, labeled F. A second drive is also installed on the machine, labeled C, which had come from another computer. This also has a copy of XP in it, although it does not boot from this drive. In this case however, the path for the msiexec service was pointing to the old C drive.
Crikey. I've seen documentation on that sort of thing as a possible cause of Invalid Drive installation error messages, but I don't think I've ever seen it reported before "in the flesh" (as it were). I don't think I'd have thought to check on that at all with your error messages.
Glad you got things working, Diane. Many thanks for letting us know about your resolution.

  • Unable to install Quicktime/Itunes

I have been trying to install Quicktime/Itunes with no success. The error message which keeps repeating as follows: Error 1316.A network error occured while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\QuickTime.msi.
    Please can someone help?
    Many thanks,
    Paul H.

I am having the same problem also. Everytime there is an update. I try it install it and end up getting the same message. I even tried coming to the website and downloading it from there but have been unsuccessful at that too.

  • Unable to install Lion Recovery Update v1.0 on Mac OS 10.8.2

Hi to anyone who can help,
As the "Find My Mac" option is greyed out, I followed all the instructions on the support forums on how to get this feature, such as Verify/Repair Machintosh HD using Disk Ultilty from the Recovery partition.
Subsequently I tried to install Lion Recovery Update v1.0 from the Apple Support link below:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1464
However, while attempting to install, it says "This update can only be installed on OS 10.7". How do I get this fixed?
Some background info, my MacBook Pro 15" (early 2011) had a replacement Hard Disk Drive and Logic Board.
    1. The replacement drive had 10.7.4 installed, and I used the recovery partition to restore to a Time Machine Backup (which was 10.8.2).
    2. Do I need to "download" the Mountain Lion package in the app store again? I see it as an available to download instead of saying "Installed".

Exit Code 6 is a generic error that indicates that the installation was not successful.
Have a look at the following document: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/errors-exit-code-6-exit.html
A quick look at the error log, indicates a permission issues. Are you logged in with an Administrator account and have sufficient privileges to install software?

  • Unable to install quicktime

Somehow Quicktime was removed from my computer. I tried installing it and it went through all the motions but when it came to restarting the computer it wasn't there. I have tried this several times and the same thing happens.
So I called apple and they couldn't figure it out so they sent me the Mac OS X install disc where you can also install Quicktime and the same thing happened. So i have spend over 30$ for those discs that I didn't even need.
    Any ideas?

Use Pacifist to install the components manually.
