  • Install SQL Server Express 2014 on same machine as SQL Server Express 2008 R2

    Hello, I have a customer with a CRM application using SQL Server 2008 Express (installed as part of the product installation).
    They wish to use another database-based application and the CRM company is recommending a separate instance of SQL for the other database.
    So, I am wondering if it is possible to install SQL Server Express 2014 on the same machine as the existing SQL Server Express 2008 R2?
    Many thanks for any assistance provided.

    The CRM application in question is SAGE Act!.  It is their own (proprietary) application.
    I am less interested in comparability questions concerning this application than I am about the possibility of installing
    SQL Server Express 2014 or creating another database instance within the existing SQL Server Express 2008.

  • Resisting the creation of new log files when SQL SERVER is restarted

    Hi,
    I know that when SQL server is restarted new log files are created. But is it possible to resist creating new log fils and insert log data in the existing log files that are used before restarting the sql server

    Hello,
    I guess Raghvendra answered your question. And as per your previous post its not clear what you want to ask an you did not revert. Again if your issue is solved appreciate if you can please mark the answer and vote the posts helpful.
     Can I continue to log in the same file.?
    What does this line mean exactly ? Yes SQL Server will continue to use same transaction log file(LDF file) for writing information as it was using before shutdown. If you are talking about errorlog file a new errorlog file would be created which you can
    read using
    sp_readerrorlog
    Even if you stopped SQL Server service mistakenly its not that server is gone. Yes when you stopped the server all inflight transactions are rolled back. And when SQL Server would come online it would undergo crash recovery and would bring all the databases
    online by reading transaction log file and performing redo and undo of information. All committed transaction would be rolled forward and uncommitted would be rolled back.
    Please mark this reply as answer if it solved your issue or vote as helpful if it helped so that other forum members can benefit from it

  • Unable to start SSIS Projects : SQL Server 2008R2 Dev edition installed on top on SQL Express 2008 with Advanced Services

    Hello,
    I first installed SQL Serrver Express Edition 2008 with Advanced Services (As a part of some client's software)
    Now I have isntalled SQL Server Developer Edition 2008, by selecting ALL features and client tools.
    Now, with BIDS, I can start SSRS and SSAS Projects, but I can't start SSIS Projects.
    I am getting below error message :
    To design Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration
    Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
    Please let me know how do I resolve this issue "Without un-installing Express Edition installed earlier on my machine"
    Please help !
    Thanks
    DP

    This is a common pitfall with the SQL Express editions. It cannot co-exist. You
    need to un-install the "Express".
    What works is having a VM with Express Tools if I you (strangely) need them.

    I have been having a very frustrating time trying to connect to a localDB instance of SQL Server 2012. So I started again from scratch on another computer (Windows 7). I first installed sql server 2012 Express with tools (via ENU\x64\SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe)

  • "Windows Authentication Mode" when SQL Server 200 and CF on different machines?

    Hi All,
    I am playing for two days with following problem. And still I
    did not able to get rid of it.
    I have installed SQL Server 2000 on machine which is my
    server (windows 2003 server) and this machine is my domain
    controller. I have user “ABC” user and I have added
    this user in administrator group.
    I have another machine where OS is Windows XP and CF 7 is
    installed. I create an ODBC Connection from Administrative Tool to
    my Database (windows 2003 server) successfully.
    Now when I create Data Socket in Coldfusion Administrator and
    when I select the my ODBC that I had created and when I Submit it
    then CF admin throughs the following message.
    Connection verification failed for data source: myTest
    java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SequeLink JDBC
    Driver][ODBC Socket][Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL
    Server]Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'.
    Please Brother, I don’t have any Clue to solve it,
    Please help.
    One Important thing, All this working fine if my CF, and SQL
    Server are on same machine.
    Best regards,
    Shahid

    Hi Phil Thanks,
    Finally i able to configure it out..... following are the
    steps...
    I assume domain controller is properly configure.
    Following are the steps for the machine where SQL SERVER 2000
    is installed
    1- We need to create Login account for your domain account in
    SQL Server 2000 using Enterprise Manager.
    • Right Click -> New Login
    • Click to load the domain users, select any user from
    your domain that will connect to your SQL Server from LAN.
    Following are the steps for the machine where ColdFusion and
    IIS are installed.
    Step No. 1
    Stop ColdFusion MX.
    Backup your existing macromedia_drivers.jar file.
    Unzip macromedia_drivers.zip into the same directory,
    overwriting the previous
    macromedia_drivers.jar.
    You can download “macromedia_drivers.zip” from
    following URL
    http://kb.adobe.com/support/coldfusion/ts/documents/1a3c2ad0/macromedia_drivers.zip
    A new file, DDJDBCAuth03.dll, which is required for Windows
    Authentication, is also included in the zip file replacing the
    older DDJDBCAuth.DLL.
    Restart ColdFusion MX.
    ColdFusion MX loads the JDBC drivers inmacromedia_drivers.jar
    in the directory cf_root/lib. For example, with ColdFusion MX 7
    Server Configuration on Windows installed on drive C:, this would
    beC:\CFusionMX7\lib\macromedia_drivers.jar.
    Then restart Machine
    Step No. 2
    Configure all the ColdFusion Services to “Log On
    As” using the Domain User Account configured in SQL Server in
    the above mentioned step.
    Change the “Log On As” similar for the all other
    Cold fusion services (ColdFusion MX 7 ODBC Agent, ColdFusion MX 7
    ODBC Server, ColdFusion MX 7 Search Server).
    Step No. 3
    Restart the services; for the safe side reboot the system.
    Step No. 4
    Create ODBC (Control Panel -> Administrative Tool ->
    Data Sources (ODBC)) using the windows NT Authentication option to
    connect to database.
    Step No. 5
    Create Data Socket and Select the created ODBC connection in
    the Drop down (ColdFusion-> Admin)
    Thanks to all who participated in this discussion...
    With lots of Thanks to All particular to Phil who guided me
    in right direction,
    Shahid

  • Script to send email notification when sql server stops..

    Hi,
    I am looking for a script through which I can monitor sql server service status and if it down for any reason, I want to send email to Dba team.  How to achieve this? Did anyone has already done similar kind of monitoring?
    Again, I am not looking for any 3rd party monitoring system like SCOM etc.. I looking for a batch file or script outside sql which can solve this.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.

    There are two ways to do it:
    1). There is a job option wherein you can put the alert message and then in schedule option, select to alert you only when Sql Agent Services get restarted. So this way you will come to know when Sql Agent Services got restarted.
    2). From any centralize\third server apart from your database server\host, you can put a job to execute almost around every 5 minutes to check service status and then call a batch file which will call OSQL code to execute sql code for sending alert
    based on the message content you want to like below:
    Scripts below, even you can tweak more on this as per your environment requirement and even you can merge some scripts to make one out of two or similar, however keeping each separate one helps to track scripts.
    First Batch File with Name: ServiceStatusCheck.bat
    with below content
    Echo "Checking Service Status"
    :Query
    FOR /F "tokens=4 delims= " %%A IN ('SC QUERY "XXXXXXXXServiceNametobeCheckedPutHere" ^| FIND "STATE"') DO SET status=%%A
    IF "%status%"=="STOPPED" GOTO Shootout
    :Shootout
    'email for success in first attempt
    'Put path of batch file
    "D:\Script\Successemail.bat"
    Exit
    Second Batch file with below content which will call Sql file to send alert: File Name: Successemail.bat
    ECHO "Send Email Alert"
    OSQL -E -S XXXXXXXXX -i "D:\Script\Successemail.sql"
    ECHO "Done"
    Exit
    Third Sql File to send email: File Name: Successemail.sql
    Declare @bodyT varchar(200)
    Set @bodyT  =
    'Service was found in stopped status and Date & Time::'
     +replace(convert(varchar(20),GETDATE(), 102),'.','/')
     +'::'
     +convert(varchar(20),GETDATE(), 108)
    EXEC msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
        @profile_name='Profilename',
        @recipients = '[email protected]',
        @body  = @bodyT,
        @subject = 'Service was found in stopped status, Check Details!!'

  • Job Manger configuration when SQL Server Data base is used

    Hi All,
    I have worked on starting scheduler services after job manager configuration  and created ibots.
    But now we are using SQL Server.
    In this case we are facing a problem while configuring job manager.
    In SQL Server we will be having 2 types of authentication.
    Windows authentication and SQL Server Authentication.
    When we use both types of authentication in the job manager I am getting an error in the log files regarding authentication (NT Authentication Failed)
    Can any one tell me what type authentication should be used for scheduling
    Thanks
    Subhash

    Hi this problem solved
    Like to say I have recreated a dsn and gave sql server authentication which worked for me.
    My question is can we get uding windows authentication or only sql server works??
    Can I have some solution for that
    My thought if sql server authentication  works then this should also work???
    Thanks

    Well then, it beats me. I don't see what the problem could be in this case. :o(
    Get another driver and see what happens. I would recommend jTDS, because I'm one of the developers and I can help you debug it. It only supports basic things (such as forward-only result sets, prepared statements and callable statements) but it should be enough to see if you can connect to SQL Server. The address is http://jtds.sourceforge.net
    Alin.

  • Problem to connect SQL Server using dg4msql  form Linux machine

    Hi All,
    I have oracle 11g 11.2.0.1.0 on RHEL 4 on one machine and MS SQL Server 2000 on another Windows XP machine. I have to link the oracle database with SQL Server Database. So that we can run queries on SQL Server from Oracle 11 Database.

  • Sql server 2000 connect with other than jdbc?

    Is there any other way to connect to a Sql Server 2000 database other than with jdbc? My problem actually resides in the fact that I did a small program to test the connection to the database and it works perfectly on my computer but on the server that it's going to stay on, it doesn't.
    the program is classic:
    try{
         DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver());
         Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://12.345.67.890\ \INSTANCENAME:1433;databaseName=NAME;selectMethod=cursor;","user","pass");
    if (connection != null) {
         System.out.println("Successfully connected");
    this small program works ok on my computer(win xp, tomcat 6) but on the other computer(ubuntu, tomcat 5.2) says
    Exceptionjava.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]The requested instance is either invalid or not running.
    I pinged the ip(12.3...) from the server and it works. So I can't figure out what could cause the error. I tried 20 different connection string and don't work. I'm thinking it might have to do with using MS jdbc drivers on a unix platform? or maybe it's from the server firewall(it's a virtual server), anybody can confirm if they had similar problem? Since I can't figure out the problem, I'm trying to test connection using something else than jdbc but google didn't help much
    thanks in advance!

    I pinged the ip(12.3...) from the server and it works. So I can't figure out what could cause the error. I tried 20 different connection string and don't work. Why did you do that if the Tomcat version "works"? You're looking in the wrong place.
    I'm thinking it might have to do with using MS jdbc drivers on a unix platform? Why would that matter if you're using type IV 100% Java JDBC drivers?
    or maybe it's from the server firewall(it's a virtual server), anybody can confirm if they had similar problem? If you can ping it successfully, how can it be a firewall issue?
    You're doing something else wrong.
