Unable to install software updates

I have been trying to install the latest software updates so that I can upgrade to Lion. But whenever I try to install update(s) an error message is shown saying that the update cannot be installed & contact the software manufacturer for any help. This error message is shown "The update could not be expanded, and may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs." I also tried to install the updates after downloading them from apple download support. Again the same kind of message is shown. Due to some network error the update cannot be installed this time, try to install again. But I've no network problem. My internet is working properly. I can browse, download, watch moves.. Everything is just working fine. I even downloaded the same file 2-3times just to be sure. For example, I was trying to install "Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 5".. First, I tried the apple software update from my mac. After failing several times I downloaded the file from apple download support site. Still I wasn't able to install it. I've been waiting eagerly to install the new OS X Lion but because of this update install issue I can't install Lion! Please help. Thanks in advance.

When you run the package installer from direct Apple download site (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421), make sure you quit the browsers first. I did that, and it installed fine.

    PLEASE HELP!
What I am trying to do: Install the latest update on my computer. 1) Because it's an update. 2) Because I need, and currently cannot, access the iCloud feature in my system preferences.
What I have recently done to my computer:
I am currently uploading all my data into the Cloud.
I purchased iTunes Match and Google Drive. Google Drive caused problems on my computer, so I deleted it. It was causing it to crash. It hasn't crashed since, but now runs more slowly.
iTunes Match is taking forever, but seems to be working.;:
Something else I've noticed with iTunes, every time I open the application now, it puts these files onto my desktop screen: iTunes Media folder, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library.xml, Album Artwork folder, iTunes Library Extras.itdb and iTunes Library Genius.itdb.
    Like I said, PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • I am unable to install any updates to my MacBook?

Every time I try to update the software (when the Software Update" panel opens up), I can download the software but after downloading it says "Unable to install software" "An unexpected error occcured".....
I have plenty of HD space (100G available out of 320G), and I've tried repairing permissions, restarting etc but I still get the same error message.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Hi...
"Unable to install software" "An unexpected error occcured".....
If you have anti virus software instaled, disable that.
If that's not the issue, run Disk Utility to verify the startup disk. Not the same as repairing permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click Verify Disk
If the disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

  • Install Software Updates Step fails during Build and Capture

I have run into a problem while attempting to use the Install Software Update task during a build and capture task sequence.  I have MDT 2012U1 integrated into SCCM 2012.
The Install Software steps find and use the Deployment Points fine and the Use Toolkit steps similarly are able to download their source files from the distribution points using the Network Access account.  The Install Software Updates step, however
fails with an access denied error in the CAS.log.
I have found that I can work around this problem by setting the DP to allow anonymous access.  After checking this box, the software updates install during the build and capture task sequence.  Unchecking the Allow anoymous makes the problem recur.
I would like to not have to have the "allow anonymous access" enabled on the DPs for obvious reasons.  Other packages download correctly from the DP with anonymous access disabled - they use the network access account.  Install Software Updates
is the only step that seems unable to use that account to talk with the DP.
Is this a known issue?  Is there a work around?

Thanks for the information. I will give that a try.  I do have the SMSMP & SMSSLP (not sure I need this one in 2012) filled in in the Configmgr client install settings.  Before I did that, it couldn't even find the SUP.
I am a little skeptical that the hotfix will fix my problem since most packages are downloading from the DP fine - it is only Software Updates that are failing to download.  On the other hand, it is clearly a permissions issue since allowing anonymous
on the DP resolves the issue, all be it in a way I am uncomfortable maintaining in the long run.
That KB replaces a lot of key Windows system files.  Hopefully, it won't cause more problems than it solves.
    ---additional thought
I wonder, could it be that Packages that work without this KB have package share settings with "Copy the content in this package to a packages share on Distribution Points" cleared/unchecked?  This setting is not available for patch packages
    - so I wonder if it is enabled by default behind the scenes.  That could explain why the patch packages are affected and not the other regular application packages I have are not.  All my regular packages so far do not have the
"Copy the content" box checked. Clients would be accessing the packages differently I suppose based on whether it was through a packages share or through the new SCCM 2012 package storage thing with the hashing.

  • Applying all update\patches during 'install software update' step

    Hi,
I have created software update group (around 10 updates\patches) and deploy it to 'unknown computers' collection. Ts 'Install software update' step scans through and only installs 2 updates out of 10. I have kept deploy property as 'required' while publishing
on 'unknown computers' and 'install software update' has 'All Software update' selected (other option is mandatory update'). I want to have all the 10 required update to be installed . any idea what should be the settings on 'deploy' prperty for software group
that install all the updates in the group during 'install software update' step? Any pointers will be appreciated

    Hi,
Yes , they need a reboot and reboot is happening automatically. I believe, once reboot is done, other patches should take over with installation. I don't see any information for another updates that are part of same software group. For these 2 succefully
installed updates log has below that indicates they reboot and finish.
    WUHandler has log:

  • Unable to do Software update, access iTunes, use widgets on dash and upload

    *_Here is the problem:_*
    1. Unable to use Software Update. When I try I get: "+A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the Internet, then try again+" This is despite being connected to the internet and getting most things done.
    2. Widgets which require data retrieval are not working. Notably weather and currency convertor.
    3. iTunes cannot connect to the store. Tells me to check my network (which, if I do, I am told is fine, thanks)
    4. Cannot view images (such as car rental vouchers) which are meant to display in email. In fact- the entire email disappeared before my eyes! But CAN, luckily, view on the server so I KNOW it is not just that the image is "spam" etc.
    5. First thing on this list which made me wary- I cannot upload to YouTube, it times out ("unknown error" but timing out is mentioned) and this is using Firefox 3.8.3.
    6. Safari will not load at all- it just keeps trying to load.
    7. Displaying pages is slower than usual and downloading Onyx took ages and displayed no data regarding the file size or length of download time.
    *_What I know:_*
    1. I didn't update the last two times I was prompted because I was too busy to have it shut down on me and restart, etc.
    2. I also had a go at trying to set up a web proxy and failed miserably. Though I actually changed the settings on another network to the one I am using I am so not network-literate that I fear that I have somehow done this to myself.
    *_What I have tried:_*
    1. safe starts, restarts,
    2. deleting the preferences pertaining to Software Update from the various locations,
    3. repaired permissions and-
    4. thought of (I cannot afford to lose the data and haven't the time to back up just now- as per usual, this comes at the WORST time as I am on standby to fly out of the country due to VERY heavy and sad family affairs and need access to the files on the computer even if I cannot fully use the internet- just too many people/GB Pounds riding on this) using Onyx to try to "fix" this.
I have read up on others getting similar issues but am not certain that everyone has ALL the symptoms I am seeing (and then they may not be busy trying all these things on the one day and may not KNOW it is affected as well!). And I have tried each and every cure offered to these people. No good.

When you are going to be connecting to different networks that require different settings--such as proxies--you must establish different Locations in your Network System Preferences. If you're going to be connecting at college, you may want to set up a location called "College" and set the proxy settings so you can use it there. Then, when you want to go online at school, go to System Preferences -> Network and change your location to College. Then when you get home, change your settings back to "Automatic" or whatever you've named your home location.
Your Mac doesn't differentiate between networks it's connected to in order to automatically apply different settings. It relies on you to do that through the Locations set-up.
Anyway, glad it's working for you, and thanks for the star!
