Unable to install the new itunes 10.2.0 to 10.2.1.

Hey all,
I'm trying to get the new itunes versions to work, but I can't get it install. Can someone please tell me from this error message on what to do.

Also I can install the Quicktime side no problem.

A picture tells a thousand words ... that looks like damage to the existing Apple Mobile Device Support program files is stuffing up the iTunes install. (There's no version of AMDS in the QuickTime installer, which is why that can go through okay at the moment.)
Let's try running a chkdsk over your C drive. There's instructions in the following document. Select both automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

You're a genius! It worked just like it said would. I ran Chkdsk and I watched I bunch of things being deleted, and I think I saw the string that was being deleted. And it was finished after a few reboots, I re-ran the Apple software Update, and it downloaded and it installed I guess 10.2 again cause when I went into itunes for the first time after downloading it, it said there was a new itunes update which I did get and download and it installed great. After that I was able to update all my devices itouch, 3GS and Ipad with no problem at all.
except after I was done with the ipad it gave me some error with 1651 error at the end. But it does work. So I'm not sure if I should be worried about it or not.

My old version was corrupted and would not upgrade. I have uninstalled according to Apple's direction however I cannot install the new version. I even tried a REVO uninstall of all apple products. (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

THIS WORKS! I kept trying to reinstall several times and also had the EXACT same error message. I then I went to my control panel and went to the Unistall Programs -> Selected Apple Software Update -> Right clicked -> Select Repair. I let it do it's thing, then reinstalled iTunes and it worked just fine.

you will have the most up to date itunes available for your os 10.6.8. to get a newer version you will have to upgrade to a newer os.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

I just downloaded and installed the new iTunes on a Toshiba Satelite of some age. It was just completely reformated and updated with XP. iTunes will not open. The terms page comes up and when I agree it disappears. I have uninstalled and reinstalled.

That suggests that the installer is getting damaged during the download.
I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

Installing an iTunes update does not remove your media or personal files.
Are the files actually missing off the computer, if so, you have a serious computer issue... not a software update issue.
Regardless, use the backup of your media and other important files to put everything back. You do have a backup, correct?
