Unable to install upgrade. Deleted Firefox from my system. Attempted to re-install but unable to do so. Help!

Had Firefox since '06...Upgraded when requested, but last upgrade would not update. I deleted firefox from my system & attempted to re-install. Would not re-load on my main system. I do have Firefox on my laptop computer and it is doing OK. My main desktop system is where I am having my problem. Have went into my system to locate any other fiirefox files to delete as I thought this may have hindered reinstalling but to no avail. Any solutions or should I just continue with IE & Chrome and substitute Bing instead?

Before making further changes, you probably want to make a backup of your profile folder. See [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
If you try to ''uninstall'' Firefox using the Windows control panel (where it is listed in Programs/Features or Add/Remove Programs as Mozilla Firefox), does that work?
To make sure no Firefox components are running in the background, you might want to restart Windows.
Also, make sure you get the new installer from the source at http://www.mozilla.org/
Finally, I always suggest downloading and saving the installation file to disk before running it so that you have it available for reference in case you need it.

  • How to I delete firefox from my laptop?

I want to delete firefox from my laptop. Tried numerous times as instructed to enter "control panel", highlight then click remove. This does nothing. How do I remove?

What do you intend to on the laptop after deleting Firefox.
Clean it and give it away.
Are you trying to upgrade Firefox or never use Firefox on this laptop.
In addition to Firefox you have your personal settings in your profile, personal settings
generally should stay when you uninstall Firefox and other other applications, so you have them if you reinstall an application.
Do you have Firefox on another computer.

  • I have a MBP with Parallels. I deleted Firefox from OSX and lost all bookmarks. Is there a way to retrive them?

I have a MBP with Lion as well as Parallels and Windows 7. In Lion, I completely uninstalled Firefox using "Clean My Mac." Don't ask me why:( Understandably, my bookmarks are gone.
Are they hidden anywhere they can be retrieved? I have been trying to fix this for three days using all your suggestions but just do not have the savvy to do it alone.
    Help!!
    Dave Cain

Thanks Edmeister. I was able to reach from OSX to Windows 7 to locate and 'Restore' to a bookmark backup file from the Firefox resident to Windows. In fact, I see a list of old dates that are prior to my deleting Firefox from OSX. But none of them changed any of the current bookmarks in OSX Firefox. I then Restored Firefox on the Windows side but it didn't give me any new bookmarks. I was under the impression (incorrectly) that both sides might have the same bookmarks. Wrong answer.
When going into Time Machine, there is also no luck because the Firefox file does not exist in Application Support, so there is nothing to pull from there.
    Sounds like it's game over.

  • No matter what I do I cant delete itunes from my computer so I can install newest software.

no matter what I do I cant delete itunes from my computer so I can install the newest software?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have iOS devices and haven't moved your contacts and calendar items across then you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then seeRecover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I am trying to upgrade Mac OSX from 10.7.4 10 .7.5 .But, the grey screen is coming for hours.  What should i do?

i am trying to upgrade Mac OSX from 10.7.4 10 .7.5 .But, the grey screen is coming for hours.  I pressed the alt key and was taken to options viz. Restart to install MAC again, use time machine. I don't have back-up and so restarted to install MAC again. Can i cancel this now. I want my data to be secure. What should i do?

If you cancel an install there's no telling what state it will leave your Mac in. Let it finish or fail.
Then get a disk, it can even be a pocket drive if it's large enough and back up all your own data.
After that, boot up holding command-r keys into your Recovery Volume.
The screen should give you these choices...
    Restore from TM backup
    Reinstall Mac OS X
    Get help online
    Disk Utility
First run Disk Utility Repair Disk, if you get errors run until no errors reported or reports "the disk cannot be fixed". Then, choose Reinstall OS X.

  • Can't install iLife '08 apps from original system disks

First, I am embarrassed to admit that I only noticed this recently on my iMac which was purchased last June (08). I have fatefully installed all system and application updates since that time. Yesterday I discovered that the versions of all my iLife applications, except for iTunes, are version '07. This Mac was purchased directly from Apple and my understanding was this model came bundled with iLife 08. Indeed, the versions on the system installation disks that came with the Mac are '08! My only explanation for having the WRONG bundled software other than Apple shipping it that way, is that somehow transferring files from my old iMac to the new one resulted in this loss of version number. Again, I used Apple's software for the transfer process.
I have attempted to install the correct versions from the system CD(DVD?) using the "Install Bundled Applications Only" installer. It will only allow me to install a 4KB file labeled something like "CPU updater." I do not wish to waste hours backing up the whole iMac, reinstalling the System from scratch, reinstalling backed-up files, reregistering and configuring other installed software and hoping that I didn't miss anything.
*Is there there an easier way to just install the proper iLife version?* Am I missing something obvious here? Please help!
    TIA,
    Russ

Well isn't that confusing? Sounds more like something Micro$oft would do.
I'm still not sure why all the apps were grayed out in the custom install. Is that because they are already on disk? What if one was corrupt and I wanted to replace it?
So what versions am I likely to find in iLife 09 should I decide to upgrade?
Thank you for clearing this up and for reading my post carefully rather than giving a stock answer like "Use your system restore disks, dummy!" I so hate it when others offer pseudo "help" without taking time find out what you have already tried or know.
Many thanks for a truly helpful response,
    Russ

  • HT6030 I downloaded Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and was told it could not be installed because it was from an unidentified developer.  Tried installing download from MailUpdate & advised the disk did not meet the requirements for update. Hmmmm.

I downloaded Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 and was told it could not be installed because it was from an unidentified developer.  Tried installing download from MailUpdate & advised the disk did not meet the requirements for update.   Expect it's due to being at 10.9.1.  Mail is still teetering between dysfunctional and non-functional.  Advice?

I'm not sure what "Mail Update for Mac OS X 10.5.6" is. Mac OS X 10.5.6 is Leopard, a system that is quite old at this point. There have not been any Mail updates for Leopard in quite some time. If you are trying to install some old Mail update for Mac OS X 10.5.6 in Mavericks, that won't work.
If you are trying to install the Mavericks Mail update manually, that's not necessary if you have updated through the App Store. If the App Store shows no updates, you don't need this. (The error message doesn't make sense, and may indicate some other problem with your system, assuming that you were downloading this update from Apple's site.)
I'd advise you to start a new topic in the Mavericks forum and describe the problems you are having with Mail. Be sure to include specifics, but try to avoid speculating on causes, as responses that may be related to an inaccurate assumption on your part can cloud the issue.

I cannot log on to my Comcast e-mail from my IMac anymore.  This is a new issue, recently I had to delete cookies from my system in order so my email wasn’t frozen, but over the past few days it has went from bad to worse.  I am able to enter my login information, but it just goes right back to the home page.  Any suggestions…maybe I deleted something else in the process.

OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences  - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount.....

  • Unable to read information of application in app store. Still can download but unable to read the application infor before downloading

    Hi,
Please help, unable to read information of application in app store. Still can download but unable to read the application infor before downloading.
    I'm using iphone4, ios 6

Yes it sounds like your application could be corrupt.
First I would make sure you don't have a program like backup software or virus protection trying to read the files when you try to start the application. If not,
Do you have any backups or data exports? If so, I would try to restore them for the application
If you do what EsbHelper suggests, you will have to recreate the database. I think he is missing a few steps.
If you are going to try to recreate the application, you need to copy your outline rules files calc scripts and report scritps (.otl, CSC, REP and rul files) to s saved directory.
If you delete the directory using the file system, you orphan things in the security file. It's better to try to do it from EAS.
Once it has been deleted, and recreated from EAS, then copy back in the objects. You will have everything but data and security. those will have to be recreated.
As aI said first, the best way to do this is from some sort of backup. othersiwe it can get a bit messy

  • Upgrading to Leopard from Tiger. Should I clean install, or is archiving ok

I have the capability to backup up everything myself and clean install, but my only issue is...
I'm running a couple of programs that could be...might be....cracked versions. And I'm also running my own copy of the CS3 Adobe Master Collection, which is a huge part of my work. I REALLY do not want to reinstall all these programs. Can these be backed up and copied over?
I was going to just upgrade, but a friend of mine told me of LOADS of problems people have been having with doing that, so I need some advice on what way to do this.
Also, I heard that if I'm going to run bootcamp, which i plan to, i have to setup it up as early as possible after I upgrade for some reason. is this true?
    -Chris

My recommendation is to Erase and Install. It assures the lowest potential for problems. You can do an Archive and Install provided you take some precautions:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger, 4.6.2 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
Note that there is always the potential problem that some of your software may not be compatible with Leopard. I would check first because it's always a pain to have to go back. If I were you I would clone your current system to an external drive so if there are any problems you can simply boot from your clone and restore it.
It's best to set up the Boot Camp partition on a drive that hasn't developed some fragmentation if the Windows partition is going to require a large chunk of the drive. However, Boot Camp will let you know if it isn't able to create the partition size you've requested, so it should not be a problem to create the partition on the drive.
People will tell you lots of stories, but most do not understand the particulars of the individual situations. All they hear is "it didn't work" and whatever other horror story goes with it. Upgrade Installs and Archive and Installs can work and do work perfectly well provided that they are done right. Most users don't do it right. If it works they're just lucky.
    So here's the short story:
    1. Repair your hard drive and permissions.
    2. Clone your current system to an external Firewire drive.
    3. Test that the clone will boot your computer.
    4. Determine that your software is compatible. If not upgrade it or replace it.
    5. Decide which installation option you will use - Erase and Install, Archive and Install, Upgrade Install.
    6. Do the installation.
In my opinion do not install a new operating system if your mission critical software is not compatible.
