Unable to install v 4.6 desktop software. error:installing sonic update manager

I have tried to instal "Desktop Manager 4.6.0 B15 - With Media Manager" but unable to instal sonic media manager on separate computers. Problem occurred with roxio manager continually trying to install and forming constant 'loop' which I couldnt escape. Operating system was windows xp with SP3. Ran sonic isum_hotfix.exe and then used windows installer clean-up. Presently, have been unable to backup handheld (Bold) and same problem on two separate computers. Any help would be appreciated as I am a computer novice.

First download the latest USB BB drivers from the following link"

  • Can't update phone + Desktop Software error

So just recently my phone's been acting really strange. The battery of the phone used to last me 2 days but now it only lasts 5 hours. Also the back of the phone (below the battery to be precise) has started to become hot to the touch. (I have replaced the battery and it still has the same problem.) Today, I went to the 'Orange' store to see if they had any solutions. They told me to download the blackberry desktop software and try to update the package software of my phone.
So I got the software, backed up my phone, then I tried to update my phone.
This is where it gets weird. I was notified to update from '6.0 bundle 695' (I've never updated it since I bought the phone.) to '6.0 bundle 2949'. So, as prompted, I clicked update. Before it updates, I get told that "An updated BlackBerry desktop software component must be installed before you can continue."
So I click to install, but in about 1 tenth of a second, I get "There was an error updating your software, please try again." The window then closes, leaving me unable to update my software.
No matter how many times I retry, I get the exact same error.
If anybody has any ideas or possible solutions on how to update the phone, stop the bad battery life and stop the unusual amount of heat being emitted, it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    2) Make sure you have the most recent BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?lid=us:bboftwareesktopSoftware&lpos=us:bboftware
    3) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    4) If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    5) Launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC. If, during the process, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
    Don't forget to backup.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry desktop software shows erro while updating

can anyone help me .. I really need help im struggling since 4 months my blackberry desktop software is not updating my device when I want to do software update it shows error that " an error occurred while downloading blackberry desktop software. please try again"

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
For some reason, the "automatic" method is failing...consequently, you need to take control and override the automatic method. The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Sonic Update Manager errors after updating to blackberry desktop v 6

I updated my Blackberry desktop software to version 6.0, I am now getting a popup from Sonic Update manager that wants to install some sort of update. It will not install because it wants you to insert the disk.  If you click cancel it still tries to install.  I believe it's something to do with the Roxio media manager.  Anyone else have this problem and what's the fix?  thank you!

What I ended up doing was going to my control panel/add remove programs and deleted the sonic update manager then I download the latest version of the manager.  You can find it at this link under ALL APPLICATIONS, #2 http://kb.roxio.com/search.aspx?URL=/content/000020GN&PARAMS=set-locale=en
    Hope this helps!

  • Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?

Like the topic - "Yosemite is awful- unable to empty trash, volume options are haywire, error codes on file management, and files won't replace when moved. What are my options at this point?"
I installed this OS, and it looks nice, but it's terrible to use. I randomly have the volume controls get disabled, and sometimes the volume menu in the system tray does nothing when adjusted which I've never seen in an OS before. The trash won't empty. When I try to drag and drop newer files over existing ones, nothing happens. The old ones just stay there. I have to delete the old ones and then move the new ones. And when I go into the protected files to manage audio plugins (I make music), the first thing I hit are error codes galore, and password prompts that either don't popup when they should, or don't execute the command after I provide my password.
What can I do now that I installed the flames of **** onto my computer?

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

When I first tried to install the desktop software from the disk that came with my phone, something went wrong and the installation was incomplete.  I am unable to uninstall and start over, however, because when I open the Add or Remove Programs feature in the control panel, no blackberry software comes up as an option to remove.
When I try to initiate the intallation process again (whether by disk or by download), I get the following error message in a box that says "InstallShield" at the upper left:
An error occurred while downloading the file http://saturn.installshield.com/is/prerequisites/microsoft.net framework 2.0 sp1.prq.  What would you like to do?
I then have the option to retry or cancel.  If I hit retry, I get the same message.  If I hit cancel, I get the message:
An error occurred while downloading the file http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/8/c/08c19fa4-4c4f4ffb-9d6c-150906578c9e/NetFx20SP1_x86.exe.  What would you like to do?
Again, I have to option to retry or cancel.  If I hit cancel, I get the message:
The files for installation requirement Nicrosoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 could not be found.  The installation will now stop.  This is probably due to a failed, or canceled download.
This time, I can click Yes or No.
Any suggestions how I can get the desktop software installed onto my computer?
    Thanks!
    Annie

Yes Microsoft removed it from their site, that's why I linked to the other site where you can download it from.
In the past if the clean uninstall steps for the Desktop Manager didn't work, than the windows utility always did the trick

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Honestly, that's a pretty vague set of symptoms to provide. Could you perhaps provide a bit more? For instance...what exact sequence of steps do you perform that reaches these error messages? Details and exactness will help keep us from guessing, and guessing from vague descriptions really helps no one.

  • Desktop Software Problem-Roxio Media Manager

I have had nothing but trouble with my Blackberry Storm since buying it. In addition to my phone going dead after 3 months, which Verizon replaced, the Desktop Manager software has caused all kinds of problems on my PC (XP),  When the Verizon phone tech tried to get my dead phone restarted, he had me reload the Desktop Manager. That caused a cascade of problems on my PC and I was later  told to uninstall it, which I did. That didn't solve the problem and now I have no way to synch my contacts unless I risk installing the software again.
However, the Windows Installer still acts as if the Roxio program is still installed and it continually tries to install it, but of course, stalls partway because most of it isn't on my PC anymore. Apparently the add/remove program did not completely delete it.  Now whatever remains of the Roxio program still on my machine is causing problems. I can't close the Installer and it won't cancel or shut down.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello there,
Yes...a mess, that. You might have to try a few different things...
Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
I've also heard of folks who have had to dig even deeper into their registry to remove entries related to RIM, Intellisync, Roxio, etc...tedious yes, but I've heard reports here that have proven successful. Be sure to take a backup of the registry first...just in case...
You also might have to use Safe Mode to prevent Windows Installer from continually trying to finish the phantom Roxio install.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop Software error MUSIC

I have installed the newest version of the Blackberry Desktop SOftware on my laptop, the Music section has the error - Music Services failed to load. An unexpected error has occurred.
Anyone have any ideas how to rectify this?
    Thanks
    ALJ

I am no computer guru but I did fix this problem. Here's how I did it:
open iTunes and click Advanced, Get Album Artwork...
let it update all album artwork
    sync to your iPod
    remove BB Desktop
download newest version of BB Desktop and install it
    reboot computer
    connect BB
    start BB Desktop
go to Tools, Refresh Album Art..,
hopefully it will go thru the process uninterupted; if so
    hit Sync All...
next hit Media and voila, you should see your playlists, artists, etc
now, I had one minor problem; during BB Refresh Album Art, it kept getting stuck on file number 8169 (of 12134) so I went to that file in iTunes and found that in the Comments section of Get Info, there was jibberish which I deleted. I had to do this for a few files in order for Process Album Art to go uninterupted but then it worked.
Hope this helps. I am sure someone will figure out a simpler recipe for this fix than mine!

  • BlackBerry Desktop Software error when trying to run from my computer desktop

Hi: I have installed the BlackBerry Desltop Software ver 6.0 on my Dell Dimension 4700 PC @3.4 GHz which runs Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with Service Pack 3 and has 1GB of RAM.
Each time I have tried to start the software from the desktop icon, I receive an error message saying that BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and need to close.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and if so, how did you resolve it? Any assistacne would be most appreciated as I wish to synch my Torch with Outlook 2003 for contacts and appointments!!
    Thanks

    Hello,
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that there are more registry keys to remove than are discussed in that KB
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchronizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

    Hi,
please could someone assist me in this.
I have a mac running the latest Blackberry Desktop Software for Mac. And a Bold 9900 on 7.0 bundle 1465.
The Blackberry Desktop Software says new update available 7.0.0.1672. So i proceed to update the blackberry. It says installing and reboots. But it still has the old version, and the Blackberry Desktop Software still says new version available. (7.0.0.1672) So im going in a loop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Hey luckyBB,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
I noticed you listed your carrier as T-Mobile UK, this provider does not have the 9900 yet.  Can you explain what provider this 9900 is from so I can better assist in getting that bundle of software

  • Blackberry Desktop Software Error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working"

    Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Blackberry Playbook (PB) for almost a year now. Recently I decided I was going to back my data up, but the Blackberry desktop software I was using was 5.0... Something. So I went to http://uk.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html to update the software. I uninstalled the old one and installed the new one.
When I tried to open the newly installed software I got this error "Blackberry Desktop Software Has Stopped Working." So I did my research and found that this was happening to other people.
These are the methods I used to try to fix the problem.
    - Clean Uninstall
    - Removing registry
    - Deleting research in motion (appdata)
    - Restarting my computer about 5 times
I went into event properties this is what i got.
