Unable to install Windows 7 Pro SP1 x64
Hi guys,
I have a Dell all in one 2310 and Dell had came out to replace the HDD as it was faulty, now when I try to install Windows 7 Pro SP1 onto the unit it comes up with "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computers hardware may not support booting
to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.
I have checked in the BIOS and the settings seem ok as in the SATA drives are enabled and on AHCI..
When using diskpart to list the volumes it also cannot see the drive,
HELP!!
As Rick Dee says, the issue is with the hardware and not related to Windows. Moreover, SATA is in AHCI mode, so more information is needed. It's better to contact Dell technical support, as said by Rick Dee, so that it'll be solved as soon as possible.
The new hard drive may also be replaced, if the situation worsens. Additionally, if the PC is under warranty, Dell technician will assist you in installation of Windows.

Read carefuly that article. It describes step by step how-to modify Windows 7 64x RC DVD image to boot smoothly on any Mac. Be sure to creat 8 sector disk instead of 4
Thanks to Jowie I was able to install Windows 7 64x on my early Aluminium iMac.
PS: Be sure to download Boot Camp version 2.1.1 and modify it so setup will run without errors. I can't hel you with direct links but I can at least warn you. Have fun and good luck -
Unable to install Windows 7 Professional x64 to a GUID Partition Table
I used to have Windows 7 installed under boot camp numerous times, with no issue, although, since I am a bit techy, I once tried to install Mac, Linux, and Windows on my iMac, (Never got that working), and right now, I'm running on a fresh installed, fresh updated (just yesterday, in fact) Mac OS X 10.6.3, updated to 10.6.8, and whenever I get to the disk selection portion of Windows 7's installer, after I select the BOOTCAMP disk, it says it can't be installed to the GPT disk...I've read somewhere that you could create a hybrid disk, but thought against it, seeing that there were risks. Is this my only option? I have the original 10.6.3 DVD, a DMG backup of it, and a small portion of my disk designated to the Installer itself.
When you get to BOOTCAMP, that has to be changed from FAT to NTFS but you have to click Advanced Option.... button in order to change to NTFS.
The GPT error message can happen if you have more than one internal hard drive (say SSD and TB model).
If you didn't use Assistant, and some have managed, undo the partition.
Paragon CampTune $19 can also assist with installing Windows, creating the partition - but may not work with Lion, though you aren't there yet. -
Unable to install windows 7 sp1
@ all
for windows 7 service pack 1 ( sp1 ) installation issues, please, take a look at this thread first.I've met this problem and I downloaded the full SP1 off this page [http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5842] and it installed without problem. Since Windows Update only downloads the parts of the service pack it thinks it needs then the full version *may* have provided something the update didn't contain. I also didn't try the update with security software disabled and neither did I do this:

Born to LearnHello,
is you system clock set to right time
If so can you check what happens if you remove the check box from your Internet Security settings during the installation
Don't forget to put it back on after you install.
If the installation still fails right click the package and select "properties" check "digital signatures" and there details, view certificate. Does it say "This certificate is OK." If you get error there It also might bee that
you need to update your Root certificates: check out this links:

Can't Recover using RnR after installing Windows 7 SP1
After I install Windows 7 SP1 on Lenovo T61 machine (64-bit), I can't recover using RnR 4.3 as it seems that RnR doesn't perform anything when I chick Restore on RnR while Windows is running or when I click ThinkVantage button while the computer is starting.
Steps the issue is found
1. Clean install Windows 7 Professional x64
2. Install Lenovo drivers & softwares including RnR 4.3
3. Install Windows 7 SP1
4. Perform a backup using RnR
5. Do something (e.g. installing a program) when perform a restoration using RnR
What should I do to resolve this issue? Thanks very much. The firmware restore cd doesn't start, boot or anything visible on the screen, it just loads it behind the scenes, does the flashy or beepy thing.
Reboot twice and see if the at boot key commands work again using the OS X install disk, option key or command r or command option r while booting. (you never mentioned what OS X version or machine your using)
It's possible a recent firmware update occurred (software update or AppStore) and bricked your EFI, the version you get from the website download is older because they don't release it there until it's been tested in the field like on people like you.
If a newer firmware is on the machine already and it's borked, the older one your using won't load, only newer versions are accepted by the hardware.
If this is the case, your only choice is to have the logicboard replaced, I hope you have AppleCare.
You also could have made a mistake and downloaded the wrong one, so it's refusing to apply it.
Need machine/operating system identification help?
Find the serial number, thus the model number and thus gives the operating system that originally came with the machine. However gives not what operating system version the boot drive was later upgraded to. Do not use older OS X verisons to repair newer verisons. It is possible to use the original operating system version installed on another boot drive to recover files from a later operating system non-booting drive.

Unable to install windows XP på MSI K8N NEO
Hi!
I have problems installing windows XP (SP1) with MSI K8N NEO Platinum Edition. After I bootet my computer (I build it myself) I noticed I had extrem cpu temperatures (65-70 degrees celcius). A quick search on the net indicated that a bios-upgrade might solve the problem, as my current bios probably showed too high temperatures.
As I had already installed windows XP i downloaded the bios and upgraded using the msi-windows-bios program. And, after the reboot my cpu temerature was 20 degrees lower (45 degrees celcius), which is more normal. But during the bootup of windows I got a blue-screen (or, actully a blue blink, just for a nano-second), and then my computer rebooted.
As the system were fairly new and didn't contain any importaint data, I decided to try to make a fresh install of winXP. But now I get a blue-screen during the installation, when the progress-bar says "installing devices", the blue screen appears when it is about 75%.
The installation of XP went fine before the bios upgrade, and I used XP for several hours without any problems at all - except the high cpu temperatur. Now my cpu temeperatur is acceptable, but XP wont install/boot.
I have tried to disable all the integraded devices (such as firewire, network, sound card etc) in the bios menu, but the XP install still provides a bluescreen during the installation of devices.
My system:
A64 3000+
1024Mb RAM (corsair value, I believe)
Samsung SATA 160Gb HD
Matrox Millenium G400 (I know it is old)
NEC 2510 DVD Burner
As I said, this is propably caused by the new bios, as it did work with the old one. I have also tried "Load failsafe defaults". Do you guys have any ideas of how to fix this? Should I (can I) downgrade my bios (I do not have a floppy drive in the computer).
.wirrumHi wirrum,
I see you are Swedish (the på was a give away).
I recently aquired a MSI K8N Neo2 from Komplett - where did you get yours from? maybe that have a bad batch because I am seeing the same problems as you.
I have two different problems , the same stability problems you are seeing and problems with the keyboard (ps2) not always starting up. I'm currently at Bios V1 and after seeing your problems I might just wait with V1.1 unless everything else fails.
Im considering an RMA to komplett soon and asking them for a motherboard that works (maybe from another manufacterer).
I have a decent PSU (Antec Truepower 480) and DDR400 from Kingston thats on their reccommended list, no overclocking, stable settings, I built the thing with ESD protection and carefully. Not overly impressed right now.
Some suggestions - turn off AGP Fastwrite, turn on SATA DMA access if you are using SATA. Turn off any Overclocking, move your memory around , try just one stick in DIMM 1 see if that helps.
I finally managed to get through an XP install but it took 6 hours to install. And it will occasionally stutter then shutdown entirely.

1.dvd drive is not responding
i tried:
1.reset the SMC
2.cleaned the drive with a cd cleaning kit
3.burnt a dvd(sony dvd-r;burnt at lowest speed possible) and reinserted it (no luck)
* but i inserted original dvd of blood diamond worked without any problem
reaction when i insert any dvd other than original movie titles is:
1.i hear it spin and then it spits it out after about 2 min
2.there is no dvd icon in finder and there is no error message
2.unable to install windows 8
what i've done so far:
1.I used boot camp to make the partition
2.since my dvd drive is not working i force enabled the option in boot camp
to make a usb image of windows on my external HDD

The problem:
when we have to select the partition on which we have to install windows i.e "drive 0:partition 4:BOOTCAMP"
which has to be formatted...i cant format that partition and the following message appears
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk has an MBR partition table.
On EFI systems windows can only be onstalled to GPT disks.
Windows cannot be installed to this disk.this computers may not support booting to this disk.
ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."Hi,

Hey, I am unable to install windows 7 using 'bootcamp 5.0' . I have already partitioned the drive as (mac Os Extended Journaled) and yet it seems bootcamp won't acknowledge this?
My first thoughts were that 'bootcamp' was out of date...needed an upgrade to register windows 7. Since then I am once again met with the same problem... how can it not see the I have already have a paritioned drived ready to be used for installition, is there a way to fix this problem? I don't really want to pay out for 'i-parition' only to merge my 2 drives back into one and start again from scratch =/. Seems silly to do so...what are my options?
Regards Swishi...p.s If anyone can help me...it'll make my day :3.ONE PARTITION.
You don't need to buy anything but you should have backups.
you can delete #2 you created. Then resize to full drive.
There are already

and there needs to be Windows which cannot be higher ID

Unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on Lenovo 3000 J115 7387-26U
Hi Everyone,
I am unable to install Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my Lenovo desktop. Model : 3000 J115 7387-26U.
When I try to boot my DVD, the systems makes a loud whirring noise.. as if trying to read from DVD, the screen goes blank couple of times and then Windows XP starts up (from my HDD).
I have a Windows 7 32 bit DVD and it successfully started up and I could see the install screen (though I didn't install it. I want to install 64 bit version of the software).
Anyone else seen this problem? Is there some workaround available?
Thanks for your help.
SwamHi:
The Intel link you posted doesn't work, so I don't know what you have tried.
See if this works...
Download the drivers from this link below (first file listed -- 64 bit).
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=23060&keyword=Intel+Rap...
Extract (copy) the files onto a usb flash drive without any folders.
With the flash drive and W7 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W7 installation media.
After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option.
You should now see the storage driver files listed.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
Follow the prompts and hopefully, W7 will install. -
Unable to install Windows 7! Black screen?
Unable to install Windows 7! Black screen?
Hey everyone!
Some background info:
I built my computer ~2 years ago and it worked fine for about half a year, until it crashed. Since then I've been unable to reinstall Windows and I kinda forgot about it... which sucks! So please help me get it up and running again :)
Motherboard: GigaByte Z68
Processor: Intel Core i3
HDD: Seagate Barucada 1TB (st31000524as)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
My problem:
When I boot from the windows cd (original), sometimes I get stuck at a black screen after "Windows is starting" or the black "loading files" screen. Sometimes it just takes a while but I eventually get to the install menu.
When I am about to chose my hdd, it says it can't install on it. I deleted all partitions, created a new one and formated it (took about 1 hour), still not able to install.
I tried booting from my GigaByte cd, and it went through some kind of install (not sure what it did, it was weird because it's actually made for backups). After I chose "reboot" I was able to install on my hdd again. But after I got to 100% i got
stuck at the black screen again! I waited for a couple hours before I had to turn it off, so I'm back where I started. :/
I always google stuff, and people said the black screen problems could be related to other drives/usb stuff connected to my pc. I only have 1 hdd and 1 usb for mouse/keyboard... I tried disconnecting it but it didnt work and also it doesnt make sense since
I need to reconnect it to click on stuff anyway...
People also said I should try booting with F8 and choose "low res", didn't work either. Other people said "connect a secondary screen", I have a hdmi screen and a rgb screen, I tried all combinations of them and nothing seemed to work...
I also have some confusion with the XHD/RAID/IDE/AHCI settings. I am only using one HDD, so I figured AHCI makes more sense for me - sine i have a SATA hdd and windows 7 64 bit.
However, when I load "Optimized System Defaults" from BIOS, it sets SATA mode to IDE...? When I reboot I get a warning screen that says the system is running in IDE mode and I should switch to AHCI for optimal performance.
How do I know if my system supports AHCI or not, what should I use?
Whenever I select IDE, and I enter Windows installation, it can't even find my hdd!
Only when I select AHCI it finds the hdd, but it won't let me install on it.
I've been strugling for DAYS, so i REALLY appreciate help. :) Also, I've tried making "boot cds/usb", and I have no experience with linux so it's really frustrating. Please don't suggest going linux unless it's really necessary. :( I only have a Knoppix
live CD, but I find the whole linux system so confusing I wasn't really able to do anything, despite several "guides" and youtube videos. I have a computer that's barely been used and a original windows CD, shouldn't I have all I need to repair my
system?
Sorry about the long post, I'll be eternally grateful if someone has any clues!I am not sure which specific issue that is, but it definitely sounds like a hardware issue rather than a software or settings issue. Windows should not have any issues installing; if it does, that would usually point to a hardware issue of some sort.
It could even be your motherboard. Your best bet is to disconnect EVERYTHING that is not needed from the motherboard, including RAM sticks except for the least amount possible, and try installing Windows with that configuration.
Example: you need the power supply, so connect that. If you're installing from a CD/DVD, then you need a CD/DVD drive. You need at least 2 GB of RAM. You need to be able to turn on the computer, so the on/off switch needs to be connected
to the motherboard. You will need a mouse and keyboard. And so on. If this bare-minimum configuration does not work, start replacing items: use a different RAM stick, use a different mouse, use a different keyboard, etc. If, after you
do all this, it still does not work, then I would suspect that your motherboard has an issue. You can also try resetting the CMOS on your motherboard. Some motherboards have a jumper for that, and for others, simply removing the CMOS battery will
do it.
As far as IDE, AHCI, and RAID settings are concerned, this should not matter so long as whichever setting it is on when Windows is installed is the same after it is installed. For example, if it is installed using IDE, then you need to stick with IDE.
If you installed it with AHCI, then you need to stick with AHCI. Changing it after installation can make Windows not boot. There are, of course, ways around that, but it is easiest to simply be consistent. -
