Unable to join Linksys router guest network

I have the Cisco Linksys E1000 and have had a guest access setup on it ever since I bought the router about 2 years ago. Now randomly I can't get either the iPad 2 or 3 to connect with that guest access. I select the "guest" network from the list of networks in the iPad settings section, but when I open up Safari and go to a site it pulls up the window: "Cannot Open Page: Safari cannot open the page because it could not connect to the server." I should pull up the Cisco Connect screen where you type in the guest access password, at least that is the way the system is designed and that is how it has worked for me in the past. It works on my other Mac laptop and desktop products, just not the iPads or iPhones.

Make sure it's either not password protected (not recommended) or verify you have the correct password. Once you have that verified, go to Settings, wifi, and select your router. If it is a password protected network, you should be prompted to enter the password/phrase. Once the password is entered, it should obtain the ip address automatically. Hope this helps.

  • I am unable to join my existing wireless network with new AirPort Express

I am unable to join my existing wireless network with new AirPort Express.
I am using a DLink DI-524 Router, Windows 7 (64), and the AirPort Express.
AirPort Utility will not recognize the AEX wirelessly, it will only recognize it when it is connected by Ethernet. I can then configure the AEX and verify that the settings stick once disconnected and then reconnected. However, even after that, it will not recognize the AEX once disconnected from the Ethernet cable.
I followed the suggestions of several other threads on these forums. But I am unable to get the AEX to work.
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the discussion area!
It's almost always a security setting that causes problems when the Airport Express (AX) tries to join a third party wireless network. The AX usually does not "join" correctly and that's why you can't see it on your wireless network using AirPort Utility.
Using an ethernet cable is still the more reliable way to configure and adjust the AX, but if you are want to try to configure it using wireless, you must return the AX back to factory defaults as follows:
    Power down the AX
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the AX back in to power
Release the reset button after 10 seconds
When it is set to factory defaults, the AX broadcasts a wireless signal with a network name like "apple network xxxxxx" where the "x's" are either letters or numbers. You must look for this network by clicking on the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of the screen. If you don't see this network, then click Join Other Network to search that way. Unless you connect to this network, you will not be able to configure the AX using wireless.
Do you know the exact security type that your D-Link router is using? That is the key element in the process.
Open AirPort utility, click Manual Setup
Click the Base Station tab to establish a name for the AX, device password and adjust time zone settings
    Click the Wireless tab
    Wireless Mode....Join a wireless network
Wireless Network Name...must exactly match your D-Link wireless network name
Enable ethernet clients if you want the port to be active (your D-Link must be compatible with ProxySTA for this to work)
Wireless Security...exact setting of the D-Link network. WEP security causes a lot of issues. Try to use WPA/WPA2 Personal, which is far more secure.
Wireless Password...must match the D-Link network
Click the Music icon to enable AirTunes
    Click Update to save settings
    Any luck?

  • I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5

I am unable to join my own wifi network with new iphone 5.  It has the latest software downloaded too.  Keeps saying unable to join network after I type in the password.  All my other devices are able to join but just not the iphone.  I've called Verizon and my internet provider and they have been unable to help.  I had no problems with my iphone 4 with this very same issue.  Please help or I'll be forced to return this phone.  I have 13 days left.

Try power-cycling your router (unplug for 15 seconds, then plug back in), then on your phone go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Reset Network Settings, and try joining your network again.  Note: resetting network settings will erase passwords for previously joined networks on your phone.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s

I have an AirPort Extreme running the latest software. I've tried everything and still am unable to join my own wifi network from my iPhone 4s, iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 3G, my girlfriend's iPhone 4. The only devices that will connect to the network are our MacBook Pros and iPads, (1 and 2). I have reset the airport to default settings, I've restored my iPhone, I've even disabled the password. I am still unable to join my open airport extreme wifi network. PLEASE HELP!

Saying you tried everything isn't helpful. Perhaps describing in detail what you've done would allow people to better assist you.
If you're ever experiencing strange problems connecting to any wifi point you can always try resetting your network settings on your iPhone itself. This solves the majority of wifi problems.
To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will clear all of your saved wifi hotspots and passwords, and hopefully solve your issue.
Please try this and respond with your results.

  • Linksys E2500 - Guest Network help

I recently purchased a Linksys E2500 router and currently have it set up with my main network and a guest network. Everything works as normal, except my devices are not prompted to enter the guest password every time. I logged on the guest account (and entered the password) the first time I set up the router, and then logged back onto my regular network. I then logged off the regular network and went back to the guest network and it operates as if I were still on the regular network, and doesn't prompt for a password and allows me to go to websites as normal. I was under the impression that it wouldn't save the password and would be required EVERY TIME a user logs on, not simply once and then in the future it never asks again. If anyone could help me with this issue I would be really appreciative. Thanks!

Let me know the current firmware version in the Router? If the firmware in the Router is an older version then upgrade it with the latest one which can be downloaded from the Linksys/Cisco website. After successful firmware upgrade you need to reset the Router. It is recommended to reset the router once. Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After reset, reconfigure the router and then check the connectivity status of the Guest Network..

  • Can't get AirPort Express to join LINKSYS WRT54G wireless network

After several unsuccessful attempts to follow Tesserax's advice to get my AX to join my LINKSYS wireless network, I depressed the reset button, plugged the AX in, and waited for the flashing reset confirmation. Reconfiguring from scratch to join my WPA network, all seemed to go well. After selecting to Update, the following window pops up:
<The settings for this AirPort Express have been successfully updated. You can close this window or wait for this AirPort Express to restart.
Waiting for the AirPort Express to restart…>
After a couple of minutes the following window appears:
<AirPort Utility was unable to find your AirPort Wireless device after restarting.
The settings for this AirPort wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the AirPort wireless device. You may need to select your network from the Wi-Fi menu and try again.>
At this point, AirPort Utility will no longer recognize the AX, no matter how many times I rescan. The only way I can get it to be recognized is to once again do a hard factory reset. I then go through the whole set up process again, only to end up in the same dead end. I'm thinking that there has to be some sort of problem between the AX and the LINKSYS. Prior to the above activity, I was able to send iTunes to the AX just fine. I just wasn't able to surf the Internet at the same time.
Any ideas you might have will be appreciated.

Thomas - I have a very similar problem - I've got a Wi-Fi/ADSL2 router supplied by my telecom company AirTel (the router's called 'beetel', 802.11g model) and I'm having problems extending it with Airport Express - the Airport Utility doesn't seem to be able to detect the AE after restart. The only difference with your case seems that you have a Linksys piece.
    Here's what I tried:
    1. Had my Wi-Fi network up & running with the beetel router (network name: PASTA)
    2. Booted Airport Express
    3. Launched Airport Utility 5.5.3 from Windows 7, detected the Airport Express, chose Manual Setup and went for option "Extend my Wireless Network" and chose PASTA and specified its password
    3. Airport Utility restarted the device after saving changes, and Aiport Express went invisible.
That sounds like the same problem you had.
Just to cross check, I tried connecting an Ethernet cable between AE and the beetel router and went for option "Create Wireless Network" and that was a breeze.
@Tesserax - can Airport Express smoothly extend only an Airport Extreme WiFi network? Is there anything I can do to extend my current Wi-Fi network from this router?
Thanks for your notes & time
    Forrest

  • Airport Express joining Linksys WRT54G Wireless network

I have spent hours trying all different ways of getting my Airport Express to join my Linksys network. And then I discovered that I have to *__remove the spaces from my WPA password__* in order for my AX to join the network. My iMac and MacBook all join the network with spaces in the password, but for some reason the AX does not.
This may be superstition, but I also made sure the pass phrase was all uppercase and exactly 13 characters. Don't know if that makes a difference, but I was tired of trying different things.
    Hope this helps some one.

  • Unable to set Guest Network

I have set up a Wifi Network using one Apple Airport Extreme.
While me regular WiFi network is hidden and working fine, I am unable to set up the guest network.
I have enabled the guest network option with a password. under the wireless tab in airport utility
My internet connection is using DHCP.
The Router Mode in Network is OFF (Bridge Mode)

The Router Mode in Network is OFF (Bridge Mode)
That.....is one of your problems, since the Guest Network option will not operate correctly when the AirPort Extreme is configured to operate in Bridge Mode.
The other problem that you have.....is that Bridge Mode is actually the correct setting for the AirPort Extreme when you have another router "upstream" on your network......as you do.
To confirm that you have a modem/router or gateway device on your network........and not a simple modem, which is the device that you really need to enable the Guest Network to operate correctly.....please post back with the make and model number of your existing modem/router or gateway device that is providing your regular Wi-Fi network at the present time.

  • Macbook air unable to join wifi network

I have a brand new MacBook Air and am new to Macs, but have a very good understanding of PCs. I constantly have to reenter our wireless security code for Wi-fi.  Now I am receiving a message that says "the computer was unable to join the wi-fi network you selected".  What am I doing wrong?

After a 30 minute phone call with Support, nothing worked still! In the end he suggested changing the channel of the wireless router/modem.  I tried to do this (after research online on my imac) and then lost all internet connection. The router/moden no longer worked at all!  Then had to call the support line for the router; spent another hour or so trying things, but to no avail. In the end have had to buy a new modern modem router (Belkin Dual band N+ PLAY N600 DB) and so far ......................it's working!  But we only bought it this morning. Will report back another day with an update!

  • IPhone 5 unable to join airport extreme network, help!!!

I just bought an airpot extreme a week ago. After I configured it, my macbook pro can connect the wi-fi flawlessly. However, my iphone 5 was unable to join the airport extreme network. It sees the network, just can't join it. It doesn't say unable to join, I choose my network on my iphone, it shows it is trying to join, and never successfully joined. I've been trying miliion's way to fix this problem. I reset my iphone completely, reset my airport extreme, and reset the model, still never worked. Any idea?

Was one of the million ways that you tried.....changing the name of the wireless network on the AirPort Extreme and also changing the wireless network password?
    If not.....
Keep the wireless network name simple
Use only letters and numbers.....no special characters (like an apostrophe or asterisk, etc)
