Unable to Launch Indesign. Insufficient permissions....

Hello, So I am on OS Mavericks and I'm using the Creative Cloud programs (Illustrator, photoshop, Indesign, Acrobat) Indesign froze up and I had to force quit. It never relaunched give me the aobe error. When I clicked OK I get "Indesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected...) I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Indesign 3 times. Still get the same messages. I have a laptop which uses the CC programs just fine. HELP!

See Replace Your Preferences to find the paths to the TWO hidden folders where ID stores the preferences in your user library. If you don't know how to show hidden files and folders, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion
Check to see if the folders are there and also check to be sure you have full read and write permission for them, as well as the parent folders.
Since you force quit, there's a good chance there is damaged recovery data as well that could keep ID from restarting. The InDesign Recovery folder should be in the same path as InDesign SavedData and you should empty it.

  • Unable to launch InDesign CC

I have just installed Creative Cloud on my MacBook Pro laptop, which is running Mavericks Version 10.9.2. When I try to launch ID, I get "Error: Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders. Ensure that you have appropriate permissions and then restart Adobe InDesign."
I have tried repairing my permissions and resetting the ID preferences so far. Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Same problem here (Mac OS 10.9.3; InD CC 2014 install) - this is the 3rd CC install (2014 this time) of InDesign I've done and had this issue. It's absolutely ridiculous for a software install to screw up the permissions - if the permissions are right enough to permit the installation, how can they be bad when it comes to running the application?
Plus, this time I've been unable to fix the problem (prior fix was to methodically compare the permissions from a previous, successful version of InDesign, and change the current install to match).
I can't believe I'm paying Adobe a monthly fee for this kind of aggravation.
    UPDATE
OK, for the sake of future victims (on a Mac), here's the fix that worked for me:
Navigate to each of the following folders, change the name of the "Version X.X" folder to "oldVersion X.X" (where X.X is the current version number), then start InDesign. That should force creation of replacement folders with corrected permissions. You can then trash the "oldVersion" folders (you'll need administrator privileges to do all this)
    /Users/(your user name)/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign
    /Users/(your user name)/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign
    Good luck.

Have uploaded and installed CC 2014. Several apps give this error when I try to start them:  "Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you do not have sufficient permissions to access the preferences folders"
    -or-
The icon in the dock bounces once, and nothing happens.

Windows or Mac, and exactly which operating system version?

  • How do I resolve this with InDesign CC?"Unable to launch Adobe InDesign as you may not have sufficient permission to access the preferences folders. Try deleting the perferences folders and then restart Adobe Indesign"

This message pops up when I try to launch InDesign CC.
I tried deleting preferences by pressing CTRL-SHIFT-ALT,
and deleted preferences from there but the same problem still occurs.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but problem still here... can anybody help me
Tech support directed me to Configuration error 16 | CC, CS, but I wasn't able to find "Adobe PCD" folder. So I'm stuck. Please help!

It's a permissions problem on two folders in your user Library on Mac, or in your User Profile on PC.
I believe renaming the InDesign folders in the two locations will cause them to be re-written correctly when you relaunch. For the locations, (which are HIDDEN folders) see Replace Your Preferences
You must show hidden files and folders to see them.

  • InDesign unable to launch

    Hi,
i'm using CS5 design standard under volume license.
The OS is windows 7 x64.
    I'd successfully installed the suite.
However, InDesign is unable to launch despite photoshop, illustrator etc working perfectly fine.
I tried reinstalling the whole suite, reinstalling just the InDesign, disabling all startup programs and restarting but none of these solutions worked...
I also called the hotline, but was asked to pay US$39 before they can help me.
    Looking for any advice available.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read.

Sorry about the lack of information.
    Product:
    Adobe CS5 Design Standard
    under volume license.
    System specs:
    Hp Z400 workstation
    Intel Xeron(R) W3505 2.53GHz
    3GB RAM
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    Problem:
After successful installation, InDesign's icon(both the icon in the start menu and the .exe found in program files\adobe) failed to appear.
Upon double-clicking(both original .exe or the shortcut), nothing happens or appears.
No splash screen or error messages etc.
However, using task manager, an InDesign.exe can be seen using 50% CPU in the Processes tab,yet nothing appears in the Applications tab.
All other programs such as photoshop, photoshop x64, illustrator etc worked perfectly fine(no problem with their icons too).
    Attempted solutions(didnt work):
-uninstalling the whole existing CS5 and reinstalling again.
-uninstalling just the InDesign portion and reinstalling again.

  • Constant crash on launch (Unable to open InDesign)

I recently had an error in InDesign which forced it to crash. Now I can not open it anymore without it crashing during load-up.
I had one document open when I accidently closed the document with (cmd + w). Wanting to re-open it I got an error saying I did not have permission to open the document as it may be used by another application. I then proceded to try to quit ID which caused it to become unresponsive. Following this I force quit indesign.
Since then I have been unable to open InDesign at all. It always crashes during the loading screen.
I have tried uninstalling it (also removing preferences) and reinstalling (via Application Manager) to no success.
This is using InDesign CS6 (Creative Cloud) on OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Crash Report: https://gist.github.com/ddfae3a26db382e49475

You may actaully have two different problems going on at once here.
Because you crashed with a file open the .idlk (lock) file is probably still in the directory where the file is located, and that would prevent anyone from opening the .indd and would throw the error mesage you saw.
The second problem is that the crash may also have corrupted the data in the recovery folder so ID crashes again every time it starts up and tries to recover the file you had open. Locate and empty or rename your InDesign Recovery folder, then try to restart ID.

Hi, I've missed three weeks of classes because of the same error listed above.  Everything was fine and Blackboard Collaborate Elluminate worked almost effortlessly for 5 or 6 weeks.  Suddenly I tried to log in for a live lecture and this error occurred.  Other students were having trouble and still are.  Tech support at the school couldn't fix it, so they referred me to Blackboard Collaborate tech support (level 2).  They haven't been able to fix it either.  They recommended the same steps listed at the top of this email.  I executed all of them but still receive the same error.  Additionally, at one point, I was unable to install Java.  Funny things seem to happen when I get on the line with tech support to solve this problem, although funny things don't happen during the other work I do on this computer.  Technical language, I know.  :-)
In an effort to pass the class, I am doing research on own to try to fix this and get into the lectures.
I am getting the same error listed above but am not a developer and don't understand how to get to JNLP to enter the fix listed above (if someone has a hint, I'd love to try that fix).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Here are steps taken so far:
    1. Clear Java Installed Apps and Applets (Control Panel - Java 32-bit - SEttings - Delete files - Installed apps and applets - ok - ok - ok)
    2.  Delete all files in Downloads folder (from all browsers)
    3.  Allow Java in Windows firewall (Start screen - hold down Windows key and W - Search for "firewall" - Navigate to Java program name - click all boxes and save)
    4.  Ran CCleaner to remove all temporary internet files, cookies, etc. that could be interfering
    5.  When nothing else worked, uninstalled and reinstalled Java twice (on the second time, it took over a dozen tries to reinstall Java - suddenly it just worked) and both times I deleted the Sun folder (C:/Users/Me/appdata/LocalLow/Sun) at the direction of tech support
    6.  Removed old registry entries both times using CCleaner
    7.  Rebooted (something done all along the way to see if it helped)
    8.  Tried to access live classes and recordings from multiple lectures through Blackboard Collaborate Elluminate and received the same error (details included below)
    9.  Tried to access Blackboard Collaborate Elluminate with Windows firewall on, then Windows firewall off, then ZoneAlarm Extreme firewall on, then ZoneAlarm Extreme firewall off (and entire associated software package); when on, ZoneAlarm gives "super" trusted status to all parts of Java listed and gives green checkmarks for all parts of Java listed and all levels of security
    10.  End results so far:  receiving same error - nothing works

  • Unable to launch File sync and to update Adobe Exchange panel in Illustrator CC 2014

I suppose that these two problems might be related, as I need the file sync to sync the extensions?
Anyway, I’m unable to launch a file sync, and when I update the Adobe Exchange panel in Illustrator, it asks for a reboot, and after the reboot, it asks again for an update…
    Thanks for the help!

I've since received information of a workaround - listed in a different thread: Unable to install non-standard updates - Cannot launch/update Adobe Digital Publishing for InDesign CC 2014
Try the following to enable updates:
    1) Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\AAMUpdaterInventory\1.0 and you will find a .dat file ( AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat).
    2) Please open the file in question and you will find a line item : <Suppressed>1</Suppressed> .
    3) Please change the Value from 1 to 0 and save the file back in the same location.
On a Mac, essentially the same, however location: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/AAMUpdaterInventory/1.0/AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat
I was given further advice that DPS toolkit updates are not available when you create the deployment package from Adobe Application Manager Enterprise Edition on Mac OS. (I believe this may be the same using Creative Cloud Packager as you've found)
Deployment DPS Toolkit Update| AAMEE |Mac OS
The above article suggests that you can download and install the DPS update silently, however, an end user must be logged into computer - not really feasible for enterprise environments.
So I guess the process for this would be:
1)Copy the contents of the DPS update package to remote machine
2)Enable updates by modifying the AdobeUpdaterAdminPrefs.dat file
3)Remotely launch the DPS update silently (when someone is logged onto machine)
    4)Disable updates again when complete...
