Unable to Launch Photoshop CS4

I started having this problem 3 days ago. Suddenly one morning Photoshop CS4 stopped launching. The bad part is, there is no error message...nothing...it just won't launch. Other programs, including Bridge CS4 works fine, just Photoshop. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium, this is a Dell XPS computer with 8GB of RAM. Please Help!

When something works one day, but not the next, then something has changed.
It could be, as Curt mentions, hardware additions, software additions, or as simple as adding fonts, where one is bad, or corrupted.
The task is to identify what has changed.
I would create a System Restore Point (if you are on a PC), for today. Then, boot to Safe Mode, and choose to Restore System. Pick a System Restore Point from when things DID work. Reboot on the prompt, and test. If PS now works, you still need to find out what changed. Along with the above, it could be as simple as an OS update, or hot-fixed, that hosed your video driver.
In that case, go to the mfgr's. Web site (Do NOT let the OS, or any utility, tell you if have the latest version - go directly to the mfgr's. Driver Download page - plug in your card model and your OS, download the latest driver and install it. Read the installation instructions, as those can change, driver version to version.). A hosed video driver can hang PS, and might not generate any error messages.
If that does NOT help, try one more time, going back with the System Restore Point chosen.
At the worst, you will have only lost a few minutes, as you created that new System Restore Point for today.
If you have a Mac, I think that there is a utility, with a name like Time Machine, that does about the same thing.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Unable to Launch Photoshop CC 2014 from Dreamweaver CC 2014!

Although I still have DWCC and DWCS6 still on my PC - and the roundtrip editing from within Dreamweaver works flawlessly - it does not work with DWCC2014 when trying to get PSCC2014 to open an image for editing.
All I see is an error message stating:
'Unable to launch - please be sure this application exists and that there is enough memory to run it.'
Has this roundtrip feature been removed in DWCC2014? If so, why?
It works perfectly well on the same PC with earlier versions - but I would like to remove the two earlier versions to free up space.

  • Launching Photoshop CS4-  Spaces,

When I launch Photoshop CS4 from Applications ( ie. not by trying to open an image), I get this window...
"Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
I can close this window and proceed to open whatever images I want.  I don't understand why I'm getting this 'error' in the first place.  It just started today.  I hope this is not indicative of a growing problem.

  • Unable to close Photoshop CS4 (64 bit) - Process in Windows Task Manager remains open

    Hi everyone,
    I've just upgraded to CS4
When i launch Photoshop for the first time, it's running normally.
But if i close it, it seems to be closed, but a photoshop.exe (64 bit) process is still remaining in memory and i can't launch
Photoshop until a kill the first process.
The computer is is Windows Vista 64 bit with 8GB of RAM and a Ndivia Geforce 9400 GT graphic card.
The problems remains if I disable OpenGL or reset prefs.
I only have the 64 bit application installed and for the rest seems fine.
    All help is welcome !

I assume you reboot the computer after removing the buggy software?
I would do a search on your computer for the software and see if there are any remaining folders. If so remove them and reboot.
This is a good free removal software. It is called CCleaner and it will remove any junk remaining on your computer. Give that a try. It also has a registry cleaner too.
Up to you if you wish to use the registry cleaner. May help because there might be something left over from removing the software that is triggering the problem still.

  • When launching Photoshop CS4 Extended it says "License Expired"

Can anyone help me with this problem? I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop CS4 extended here in adobe.com but when i tried to launch it, it says "Licensing for this product has expired."
I don't know why this is happening. This happened twice already. The 1st time that the message ("Licensing for this product has expired.") appeared, I tried to uninstall Photoshop CS4 and re-install it again. But after re-installing it, the message appeared again. It dissapoints me.
Could it be because of the keygen I used? Cause I just downloaded some keygen in the internet and when the program asks for a serial number I used the keygen. But after the next day, it says that the serial number of this product has expired so I took another serial number in the keygen and so on. I don't want to buy the serial number online because its expensive and our country is not listed in the store listings.

  • Unable to Uninstall Photoshop CS4 and Dreamweaver CS4

it's been a couple of days since i tried out Photoshop CS4 and Dreamweaver CS4 to see how they compare to the CS3 versions, it worked fine and all till suddenly it stopped working, so i been trying to uninstall/reinstall to get it working under the free trial limit i still have left (27 days as of this writing) it still will not work.
Sometimes i would install Photoshop/Dreamweaver and say an error occurred and some components were unable to install and would be unable to load the file even after doing what the instructions say...
Same goes for when i try to uninstall both Photoshop/Dreamweaver, i would try to uninstall and would still remain in my program files...
I am completely stumped on what to do, i can't even re-install photoshop/dreamweaver cs3 as well due to this...
I am running on Vista 32bit SP1 Pack on HP Pavilion, i want to completely get rid of CS4 versions and go back to my reliable CS3 again, any help please would be greatly appreciated.
    Kantori

John... if you read what I said you would of caught that i did do it:
"did what was suggested, worked like a charm for the CS3 and Dreamweaver CS4 but although it did work on Photoshop CS4. it did something i was dumbfounded to see, it did something odd in which it took out the Uninstall/Change tab option for removing programs (I was viewing it to see if it uninstalled completely) also it brought out a bunch of programs that weren't in that section before and was unable to uninstall/remove them.
So i had to do a system restore point to go back and try again. After doing it two more times (ya two!) still doesn't work, i am 7 hours into trying to resolve this... sigh. "
At that time i said i had done it 2 times, 3 in total, i am on try #6 all with the same results with the exact after effects once i restart my PC.
Here's what it does to tell what goes on:
    1) after installing microsoft's cleaner then opening up the cs4 cleaner under admin, it does its thing, it asks me if i wish to remove Flash Player 10 after choosing remove Photoshop CS4, now here i done both remove Flash Player and not remove it with the same results, losing the uninstall/change option on the control panel, which frustrates me.
    2) After seeing that i try to install Photoshop CS4 again, once its done, i open it up, try to go to the trial option where as i stated previously says there's an error and can't open the trial page which would open up Photoshop completely but since it can't i cannot go beyond that window.
    3) So ya... i try ONCE again to do it all over after restarting and SAMETHING! no uninstall/change option appearing and unable to open up Photoshop CS4 in which i resort to doing a system restore again and trying once more.
NOW, one would think that after the first 3 times it should be working properly, i mean I thought it would after removing both Photoshop CS3 and Dreamweaver CS4 it's bound to do the same for Photoshop CS4, but it doesn't completely create a "FREASH" install. It's like it still remembers what messed up functions it still had and what's up with it removing the uninstall/change option? that just bogles my mind.
i tried many things, re-downloading the trial from adobe, etc i never would of thought just one program could cost me so much wasted time just to get it working and it's a free trial nonetheless so excuse me John Joslin if your remark kind of bugs me, I need some assistance/advice on trying to correct this problem, not a
    "It should have done!
Run it a few times. "
comment that's already common knowledge for me in what I have already been doing long before your post.

  • Unable to Launch Photoshop from Dreamweaver

When I click on a file in the code window to edit an image I get this error window "Unable to Launch C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\ Photoshop.exe Please make sure this application exists and that there is enough memory for it." But if I navagate to the image file in the files panel and click the image in there Photoshop will open up instantly.  I have tried a number of times to go to  Preferences/File Types/Editors/  and deleting existing path, then click + and select app to establish path, and then restarting Dreamweaver. Did not work. Any ideas? I am on a Trial of DWcc and Windows 8. Thanks

    Hi MichelleDonn,
Can you check out the solution proposed in this forum post? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/46769
You could try updating the path to Photoshop be deleting and re-adding it, using the - and + buttons, in the File editor category of Preferences.

  • Unable to close photoshop CS4

    Hi everyone,
I've just upgraded Creative Suite CS4 from CS2. But now, wen i launch Photoshop for the first time, it's running normally.
But if i want to close it, it seems to be closed, but a photoshop process is still remaining in memory and i cant launch
Photoshop until a kill the first process.
The computer is Intel Core Duo based with 2 Gb memory and an ATI 3450 512 Mb vga card.
    All help is welcome !

Try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

  • Unable to uninstall Photoshop CS4 please help

    When I try
to uninstall (does not work) the trial version of PCS4 from Contr
ol Panel (Windows 7) it says
    SYSTEM CHECK
Critical errors were found in set up for Adobe Photoshop CS4
The installer database is invalid: please re-install the product from the original media.
Please see the setup log file for detail.
OK, first I tried to see the set up log and for that I downloaded the Adobe Support Advisor. When I was installing it I got a message
"This application requires a version of Adobe AIR which cannot be found. Please download the latest version of the Adobe AIR from www.adobe.com/go/getair or contact the application author for an updated version.
And the AIR could not be downloaded because of some " Critical Error"! To be exact it says It may not be allowed by your Administrator. The trick is that I am logged as an admin all the time!
I wasted a lotta time for nothing and feel very frustrated! It looks like I will have to re-install Windows 7, because Restore Pointes are not saved.
    So boring....
Tried to clean script -  downloaded a program - it won't work
    Any suggestions maybe?

Wow. It sounds like you have a hosed installation of the trial. Also, it sounds like there are some other problems with the system.
Now, there are utilities to remove programs. CleanSweep (last by Symantec) was one, but there must be more. One could let such a utility scan their system, then use it to remove the program. At that time, I'd run the Adobe Clean Script CS4 and then a Registry cleaner, like CCleaner.
Good luck, and I think that you have some more troubleshooting ahead of you to fix other issues.

  • Unable to launch Photoshop CS6 Extended

When I try to launch Photoshop CS6 the following box appears: "Photoshop detected graphics hardware that is not officially supported. Yes, I know that! This version has been working fine since I purchased it

added...I just can't launch it now! Tried deleting and reinstalling. Very

  • Unable to open photoshop CS4 on my mac, the message "application components are missing" appears

I had a recent virus, which im lead to belive has deleted some application components from the application directory.
I no longer have the disk to re-install the application, as this was given to me as a gift.
How am i able to re-cover my Adobe photoshop CS4?

If the giver of the gift didn’t give you their serial number, then they didn’t give you CS4 permanently.
You can try running the BelArc Security Advisor which will ferret out serial numbers of various products, but if the computer has been cleaned sufficiently, the information may no longer be on the computer for BelArc to find:

  • Unable to Launch Photoshop CS5 (64-bit), Related to Adobe Application Manager

i am at my wits end. any help provided will be greatly appreciated.
i installed photoshop cs5 (i run windows 7 64-bit) normally after uninstalling my cs4 normally (no clean installation or whatnot) and this time i chose to exclude the 32 bit version since i wouldn't require it.
upon installation i try to launch the programme and it says that the Adobe Application Manager is required to start it, so i do a quick google and i download the Application Manager. now here's the problem.
when i try to launch the installation for the app manager all i get is a loading bar with installation initializing. this bar goes to completion but after that it just shuts on me and nothing else happens.
    i have tried:
    1) restarting (obviously)
    2) extracting the installer to a different location
    3) trying to run the clean installation procedure, but this results in further problems:
the clean install package came with instructions to install a installer cleanup utility provided by windows which is no longer being provided because of certain risks. having found that program somewhere else on the internet anyway i start it up and it gives me an error saying it can't find msizap.exe and fails to install anyway. i hence end up not having used the cleanup system at all.
solutions to either problem, the former especially will be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
edit: reinstalling both 32 and 64 bit editions together results in 32 bit working and 64 bit still requiring the application manager. for the life of me i don't see why one requires it and the other doesn't.

I understand that you did not choose to put Photoshop 32 bit in C:, it just went there on its own.

Adobe software is known to work better when installed on C:.  I think you may be experiencing that first-hand here.
Why have you partitioned your system this way?  I'm curious, what do you believe you have optimized by doing this?  In my experience, partitioning your system as you have done will net you more problems than performance.  Even outside of applications you install, Windows itself will continue to expand over time (search for winsxs, for example, and of course there are Windows Updates and Service Packs).
I could see perhaps using a single super-fast limited C: physical drive, with programs and other files on another physical drive with a separate controller, improving performance - but I don't believe there's any way a drive that's been partitioned as you have described is going to help performance.  And you should know that Microsoft has done many things (e.g., SuperFetch) to optimize performance when set up in a more typical fashion (on one big C: partition).
