Unable to limit sharing of selected playlists in iTunes
I am able to successfully share my entire iTunes library from my primary computer to my other computer and my apple devices. I want to only share my music but not movies, photos, podcasts, books etc. I have selected the music and the playlist I wish to share from within Edit/Preferences/Sharing in iTunes.
I even tried putting on a password.
My other computer and devices see everything. They do not even need to enter a password.
How can i actually limit what the other devices and computer see in my shared library? Is there a file i need to delete or a setting that needs resetting?
If i rename me shared library from my primary computer this new name appears in my devices along with the older name. Also, everything is visible from them too. Nothing i do seems to restrict my computer and devices from seeing only the music i wish them to.
Any suggestions???
I have now done a complete removal and reinstall of itunes using the procedure defined in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 and still no luck. Not one of the videos, movies or TV shows in my iTunes library will play in itunes. ie. none of the m4v files. This all seemed to start when I downloaded a movie from the itunes store. It wouldn't play, and then as descrbed above, none of the others would either.
Whenever I try to play a video, itunes just freezes for a few seconds then nothing. Are there any itunes or windows logs files which I can check ?
Once again, any help would be much appreciated.

I just purchased an iPod Classic, and after making sure I had the latest ver. of iTunes on my Intel MacMini, printed out the User Guide and carefully began learning how to operate the iPod. My first step was to ensure I had manual control (vs. auto synch) because I want only selected songs and playlists on the iPod, not my whole iTunes Library.
On pg. 24 of the Guide is the topic "Synching music from selected playlists onto iPod Classic." Just what I wanted. OK, I selected iPod "in the source list" (aside: Shouldn't it be "in the device list?" I dispair of imprecision). This brought up the iPod Summary page, showing I had selected Open iTunes when connected and Manually manage music and videos. Next I clicked on the Music tab.
This presented me with Synch Music next to an empty check box. Below it, and entirely grayed out was:
Entire music library (showing a checked box)
Selected Playlists, artists, albums and genres (next to an unchecked box).
There's also a third grayed out item: Include music videos that is checked.
When I selected Synch Music, I got the message: "Are you sure you want to removed existing mlusic, movies and TV shows from the iPod and synch with this iTunes LIbrary? I selected Cancel because:
1. The grayed option Entire Music Library is checked, not mly preferred option of Selected playlists, artists, albums and genres. .
2. I can't find anywhere in the User Guide how to "Select the Playlists" I want to synch to my iPod. At present all I have in iTunes is my list of playlists in the left hand side bar.
OK, my first thought was the checked box in the iPod's Summary window: Manually manage music and videos. So I went there and unchecked it, which immediately brought up an alert to the effect "Are you sure you want to automatically synch your entire iTunes library, etc. etc...? I quickly cancelled. Thus, I seem to be in a Catch-22 situation.
So the questions are:
How do I resolve the Synch Music issue so I am assured only selected playlists will be sent to my iPod?
How do I create a list of playlists in my iTunes library to be transferred to my iPod?
How do I manually move a playlist in my iTunes library to my iPod's lists of playlists?
Any help much appreciated. Thanks to all.
John in the Pacific NorthwestFor the immediately problem, you can shut down the computer and disconnect the iPod.
There may be a process (program) running on your computer in the background that continuously monitors mounted volumes for things like maintenance, data corruption, and malware. The iPod's storage is a mounted volume. If you know of any such program, such as an "anti-virus" utility, and it has settings that allow you to exclude certain volumes, you can set it to ignore the iPod "disk" when connected.
Also, if you are using automatic syncing (not the manual method) to load the iPod, and you have Enable disk use turned ON, turn it OFF. With Enable disk use turned OFF, iTunes only mounts the iPods disk when syncing, then immediately unmounts the disk. Thus, other processes you have running on your PC (not iTunes) will have less of a chance to make the disk "in use" and cause this problem. You won't even have to eject the iPod before disconnecting. -
Why can i only select playlists from iTunes to play with my slideshows?
I used to be able to select individual tracks from my itunes library to play with slideshows. For some reason i only seem to be able to select playlists now?
Anybody know what is going on here? I did recently upgrade my iLife, has this got anything to do with it?
Any feedback or hints and tips greatly received.

Is there a way to get my MacBook or iPhone to use a selected playlist from itunes as a wake up alarm - ON REMOTE SPEAKERS? Loads of alarms start up with a selected playlist or song, but they play only on the computer or iPhone or plugged in speakers. I want to wake up to my remote speakers in the bedroom via the wireless AirPlay function. Any ideas would be welcome.
I have practically the same problem, but only with podcasts. From a smartlist having all my podcasts, autofill only puts two onto the shuffle. From a normal playlist, none. I can drag them all into the shuffle. I'm on an iBook with Panther, iTunes 6, September 2005 iPod updater.

I only want Home Sharing to ONLY show selected playlists
How do I get my 2010 AppleTV to only see selected content from my iTunes Library? I went into iTunes, Preferences, Sharing, and selected Share selected playlists. Then I picked a few of them. Trouble is, I am still seeing my full library when I view it under Computers on the AppleTV. What am I doing wrong?
This is frustrating. I have all the latest models and OS's running, and there is no way to hide my iTunes **** stash from AppleTV. On Thanksgiving, everyone wanted to see pictures of the new house, and I was soooo excited to show everyone house snazzy AppleTV was and how you could look through photos from the computer. And then I realized navigating through the menus that it was probable there would be video thumbnails popping up on the screen that I would have to blaze by to get to the photos tab. Not good. I aborted the mission midstream, and had to blame 'technology' and resort of pulling out the computer. Clearly, Apple is not designing software for those of us who mingle our **** with the rest of our lives. The checkbox thing does not work. The parental controls do not work (either on AppleTV or in iTunes). I suppose the best way to hide certain stuff is to create a different library for iTunes and then select that library when you open iTunes. Then it seems there would be no way things could slip through the cracks...so to speak.

Sharing individual playlists between iTunes and Apple TV
When I setup Home Sharing in iTunes to share only one individual playlist to my Apple TV, it still shares my entire library. Why? I have Sharing set to: Share My Library on Selected Networks, Share Selected Playlists, and I have the one playlist I want to share selected.
ThanksWhen I setup Home Sharing in iTunes to share only one individual playlist to my Apple TV,
There is no such option. You can turn home sharing on or off. If you are on a Mac you can set some retractions to photo sharing over home sharing, but that is the only thing you can limit.
If you are talking about the music sharing tab that is from iTunes to iTunes. It has nothing to so with home sharing. -
Mac Book Pro, late 2011. Purchased in a department store in Mexico.
Was running ok for several days after I purchased it.
Had some software installed and memory upgraded from 4 to 8Gb.
Suddenly at start up, got a gray screen with a spinning wheel and never boot.
Followed advise from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 and performed a safe boot. (hold Shift-Command-V during startup instead of just Shift).
The boot sequence starts then stops and nothing happens. these are the last lines of the boot sequence.

F110 - limit open items selected
Hi
Where can I specify such that for a particular payment run, I only want to process payment to vendors where the payment balance is <$X. For vendors with payment >$X will not be selected in that run.
I am unable to utilise the free selection screen in F110 as it only checks the value at the invoice level and not at the vendor level. Payment to each vendor comprises of mutiple invoices.
Thanks.Of course it does not as it operates either on master record level or on (single!) document level. The information you need here is the total over many documents: if the amount to pay is less than X, no payment should be made.
Could you pls. check my previous post regarding field VONBT (minimm amount) in payment method customizing and let me know if you can use it here. I think this is exactly what you need here, i.e., limit the amount per payment whereat a payment can have one or many single invoices included.
Hope that helps, points welcome

Hi
I have tried a search for this and cannot find an obvious answer?
I have created playlists, how do you uncheck the Library music file but keep the playlists checked for when you sync to your iPod? I do not want the Library music file and the playlists on my iPod at the same time.
The simple answer would be to uncheck them one at a time but that is a bit long winded. I know there is a solution but I just cannot seem to find it.
Help someone!
Thanks
Peter*how do you uncheck the Library music file but keep the playlists checked for when you sync to your iPod?*
You can't. Playlists are just links to songs in the library, if a song is unchecked then it's unchecked wherever you see it.
If you don't want everything in the library to sync to the iPod you could choose the option 'Sync Music - Selected playlists'. Open iTunes and create a playlist to update your iPod from, call it -My iPod for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. If you are making a smart playlist limit it to just less than the size of your iPod (for example 3700MB for a 4G iPod Nano. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod:
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Syncing Music to iPod
To make a random playlist go to File>New Smart Playlist.
Uncheck "Match the following rule"
Check "Limit to" put "3700" in the number box, choose "MB" from the first list box, choose "Random" from the next list box. Check "Live Updating"
When you want to change the selection in the smart playlist just delete everything in it and it will add a new selection. When you want to change the normal playlist just delete out what you don't want and drag in a new selection. -
Brand new Mac Book Pro
Purchased in Mexico's Department store Liverpool on June 20th 2012
Purchased Memory upgade to 8Gb, on june 27th, at Apple Store Memorial City, Houston
Upgraded memory from 4Gb to 8Gb on June 28th.
Tried to write on my external HD (previously written on a windows based PC) with no success.
Upon reccomendation from a Mac assistant, copied all my external HD contents into my Mac Hard drive.
Then formatted my external HD and copied back all my information to it.
deleted all the information from my MacBook Pro HD.
Attempted to repeat the same operation with another external HD, but got a message saying there was not enough epace on the computer HD (even though I have a 750Gb Hard Drive.
Looked in the trash bin and there it was, all the information previously deleted..
Could not empty the trash bin, although I got a message asking me to safely delete all the information from the trash bin,
Could not get enough space released, after several attpempts the trash bin was finally emptied.
All happy getting acquainted with my new MacBook Pro. Two days later, got a gray screen and not able to start the computer.
Looking in to Mac support I found article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 and followed instructions to perform a safe boot:
"Perform a Safe Boot
Simply performing the Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key. This performs a Safe Boot. Advanced tip: If you want to
see the status of a Safe Boot as it progresses, you can hold Shift-Command-V during start up (instead of just Shift).
Note: A Safe Boot takes longer than a typical start up because it includes a disk check and other operations.
The following is the script that appears on the screen upon safe boot. and halt after the last line.

I searched for and read about a dozen previous posts on this subject but was unable to find a solution. Not only can I not see any shared library but I don't even have a "shared" menu item on either PC as described in the help file. It should show up under the Library>Music heading?
Both PC's:
...can connect to the internet
...can transfer files back and forth
...can see each others "Shared Docs" directory
...have iTunes and Bonjour listed as exceptions in Windows Firewall
...have the latest verions of iTunes and Bonjour
When I point the iTunes Music Folder location on the 'remote' PC to the iTunes Music Folder on the 'host' PC, it finds it, see's it, and then asks if I want to update (the view)? to match? I said yes. Still the same list of songs that are physically on the remote PC and nowhere does it say anything about sharing or give any indication that it is aware of the host library.
What am I not getting?"iTunes Sharing, the built-in feature, has nothing to do with pointing your iTunes Music folder setting to a shared folder on another computer. Those are two separate features/capabilities."
Yes, I get that - I was just trying everything I could think of to make it see my shared library.
"do you have Sharing and "Look for shared" turned on in the iTunes Sharing preferences?"
Yes.
"you want to have your iTunes library using the shared folder on your other computer, you need to use the Add Folder to Library command to get the tracks into the iTunes library listing"
Not quite sure what your getting at here. The help file for sharing the entire library gives 3 simple steps and then says "its name appears in the iTunes window (below Shared) on other local computers (in the same subnet) set up to look for shared libraries." - obviously this is not happening.
The whole reason to share and use the host library is specifically to avoid having to manually add tracks/folders from the remote PC. -
On start up of my new iMac it locks on the grey screen with the apple logo and the progress wheel spins. Boot up in safe and this is where it stopped at "BootCacheControl: Unable to open /var/db/bootcache.playlist: 2 no such file or directory. "
Reinstalling MacOS does NOT fix the problem for me. I'm still searching a solution !

HT1386 How can I sync only selected playlists from my library in iTunes to iPhone?
Option to sync only selected playlists is grayed out in iTunes for my iPhone. How can I make it so I don't have to sync my entire library?
know this might sound silly
but make sure that
1) sync music is checked
2) you have playlist with songs in them
3) your songs have some sort of sorting form on them (artist, genre, album, etc.)
also try
rebooting pc and device and reconnecting
if all else fails, redownload itunes -
