Unable to Listen to Audio Streams

I finally got my iMac yesterday.98% of my use for the computer deals with being able to tune into audio streams over the internet and download them later to an mp3 player.
I`ve downloaded Firefox and the Flip4Mac thing.I then proceed to the webpage that has the link of the player for the audio stream I want to listen to and download.When I click on the link,the player opens and shows,but it does not play or stream the content.
Could someone walk me thru the steps?
My desktop is littered with files I`ve downloaded trying to get the player to work in Firefox.
Another thing is, I also went to the Microsoft site to get the Flip4Mac software.
I`ve got something called the "Windows Media Installer Bin"
When I click on it,it installs a trial version of Microsoft Office 2004,and opens a file viewer in for Excel,where the plug in is supposed to open but instead it just shows a bunch of gibberish and,well,this experience is turning into a nigtmare of something that I used to take for granted before in the PC world.

OK,got it.Someone somewhere posted that I must download the StuffIt expander in order to get the files installed.
All this time, the computer seemed to open the files,no sweat.But this time,using the StuffIt expander,I saw an icon on my desktop that looked like something really downloaded right.It was the windows Media Player installer complete with it`s downwards arrow icon.I clicked that and the launched Firefox again.This time, the player for the station I was attempting to listen to, displayed and started to stream correctly.
I then went to iRecord Music to schedule the recording of a show.Hopefully it will come out allright.

  • E90-listening to audio streaming from Internet

    I have a new E90 and wish to listen to a community radio station that I am involved in that streams audio on the internet.
    I can log in to the website from the E90 but when I press listen it then opens music player and gives the following message, "invalid track list" but before it closes it quickly shows the down load link information for the streaming and then proceeds to disappear, not allowing me to hear or listen...
    Am I doing something wrong or do I have to make some adjustment in the E90 settings ?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated...look forward to your replies.

    If you mean listen web radio flash based, like Last.FM website..well you simply cannot.
    Unfortunately the FlashLite 2.0 does not support the streaming, so the browser cannot use it for streaming.
    I hope next Flashlite 3.0 can help us.

  • Unable to listen to digital/streaming radio on forefox 4, with wmpfirefoxplugin. exe already installed.

    Firefox 4 fails to play digital/streaming radio

    Are you sure the site is sending the stream in a format compatible with Windows Media Player? If you want to post the URL, someone can take a look.
    Also, in case you didn't install directly from Microsoft, you might try here: http://www.interoperabilitybridges.com/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download

  • Audio stream - record and listen simultaneously

    Hi!
    I would like to record and listen RTP stream simultaneously, but I don't know how... I can record to a file OR listen in headphone but just separately.
    If i create a datasink for recording on a port I cannot use that port to listen. But in this case how can I listen the audio stream on headphone?
    Maybe the good solution would be for me if I could clone the stream but I cannot do, because I get an exception
    javax.media.NoProcessorException: Cannot find a Processor for: com.ibm.media.protocol.CloneablePushBufferDataSource@1d8957fThis is the code:
    DataSource ds = Manager.createCloneableDataSource(Manager.createDataSource(media_locator));
    processor = Manager.createRealizedProcessor(new ProcessorModel(ds, formats, outputType));Has anybody got any idea?
    Thanks!

    Thank You, it was not a big help for me...That's too bad. But considering that JavaSound doesn't handle RTP, and all of the code you've posted in JMF code, that doesn't change the fact that it's a JMF question...

    Your More system details list shows the WMP plugin and the Flash plugin as commonly used plugins to play streams.

    Use Flash Media Server to stream the files.......set up a timer and have all three of them play at once....and have a button switch the streams depending upon which stream you want to play.....and wallah......
    you can also capture the stream.time from the video playing and resume from that point on the other videos as well....havent done this theoretically so I dont know how smooth the transistion between streams will be....but it can be done....
    plus u may have to use double buffering techniques to make sure it starts up right away......

  • Is Mobile Safari's in-app multitasking (audio stream in one tab, browsing in another) gone for good?

    I cannot remember the last iOS version this feature actually worked, but in the past, I used to be able to open a tab in Mobile Safari, begin streaming audio from a website, pinch in to bring up standard UI again, and then open up another tab within Safari itself and continue to browse the web. All the while the streaming audio is still playing in the background.
    Now (and actually for the last few iOS versions, it's been a while), you cannot browse Safari while listening to a Safari audio stream at the same time. To me this makes no sense at all, because it's just a simple backgrounding concept. I can go off and use any other app on my phone, but not Safari itself.
    There ARE a few ways to kind of trick Safari into allowing you to browse and listen, but it's a poor workaround. You can go to the website, tap-and-hold on the stream URL, then select Open in Background. Doing so will begin the stream and keep you in the current webpage and then allow you to open more tabs.
    HOWEVER, if you ever select that audio stream tab, you can't control it consistently, and most of the time you'll get stuck in that tab and your solution is broken.
    For YEARS I've been waiting for Apple to fix this silly limitation with each new iOS release, but every time I find that it's never fixed. I'm just surprised that I don't hear more people complaining about it, because it's been a huge source of frustration for me for so long.
    Does anyone else experience this frustration or know if this is intentional (which would be enormously depressing if Apple purposely designed these functions) or if there are any better solutions to it than what I've come up with?

    Thanks for the heads up.
    Odd that I can't just email their support department.
    I'll post back with my results.

  • Cant listen to audio files

    For some reason whenever I try and listen to an audio file on the highly filtered network the file never seems to completely play. Perhaps this is a drawback to the high filters around here. The evangelical college that In attended really only filtered sex, ****, games, and other inapropiate websites. But at this school they filter that and much more. This includes Direct Connect access to CitiBank, TurboTax, Apple Software Update, FTP, Microsoft Technical Nessgroups, and even live audio streaming. Although the IT admins around here wont listen to anyone but their own voices, I realize that I cant convince them.
    But anyways can any of you try and listen to these audio files and tell me if they play? I think there is a 1% chance the issue is with Yahoo, but its about 1%. Thanks..

    Also can anyone tell me technically how they are able to filter audio files?
    If they filter audio its strange why they do not also filter video.

    John

    You need to raise this issue with your school's tech support group. I tried playing the first mp3 link and although I didn't listen to the entire thing, I was able to fast forward to a few minutes prior to the end and it played fine via my cable modem. If your school's network administrators are placing a filter on your network port, only they would be able to assist you in opening it so you can listen to that content.

  • MPEG Audio stream files @ HTTP?

    Recently I have started and I am enjoying using GarageBand to make audio clips to add to my iMovie projects. Since I need sounds effects I have downloaded a few from the Internet. They all are in the format "MPEG audio stream files" and come with the annotation "@ HTTP" on the icon. Are they Podcasts and if they are why I cannot use GarageBand to import them as audio files into iTunes?
    Thanks in advance for any imput.
    Frank

    Take a look at the file size, it's probably very small. Streaming means that you don't actually have the snd file... when you play that reference file the audio is streamed over the internet to you (like a radio broadcast, you don't have the recording, but you can listen to it)
    As a guess I would think that these are not freeware snd f/x, and so you'd be infringing on someone's Copyright by trying to use them.

    Muneer-
    What App are you using to get the audio stream?  Safari should work unless Flash is involved.
    I have used the free NPR App to listen to radio stations, but I don't know if it works with TV stations.

  • Can iTune convert MPEG audio stream files?

    For my iMovie projects I sometimes need Sound Effects. They can be downloaded for free from the Internet, however the audio files are in the "MPEG audio stream" format. I can listen to them, but iMovie will not accept them. Can they be converted to file recognizable by iMovie?
    Frank

    You cannot convert streams, because you're not actually downloading an audio file, but only the link to it.
    There are 3 audio capture applications known to me, which can be used to record the streams and add the recordings to iTunes.
    Audio Hijack and Audi Hijack Pro can be found here and Wiretap Pro here.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to embed radio audio stream into a website?

    Hello.  I'm helping out with the radio website below and at the top of the left column is a "Listen Live" link, which currently just goes directly to their live audio stream.  We would instead rather embed that into a Flash player, or such, to make it more professional.  Would someone have a suggestion of a Flash music player that I could embed?  Maybe something like one of Premiumbeat's Flash players?

    Thank you,
    Wesley

    Hi
    Inserting an mp3 file and live audio streaming are very different, and the difference in complexity would be the equivalent of servicing a bike and servicing a car.
    Even though the tutorial I pointed you too is more complex than you require, the basics are the same, and as there are almost no tutorials on this subjects available unless you wish to delve into the programming - http://www.aaronsw.com/2002/howto/stream, - http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/3927.html.
    There are commercial providers available, but the cost may be excessive, e.g. - http://www.livevideostreaming.co.uk/.

  • Playback of Audio Stream in OSMF

    How do you play back an audio stream in OSMF?
    Apparently this is not working... the steam is loading, but CanPlay = false is fired. It's silent.
    protected function initMediaPlayer():void
         var mediaPlayer:MediaPlayerSprite = new MediaPlayerSprite();
         mediaPlayer.mediaPlayer.autoPlay = true;
         addChild(mediaPlayer);
         var audioElement:AudioElement = new AudioElement(new URLResource("http://listen.to.techno4ever.net/dsl/mp3"))
         mediaPlayer.media = audioElement;
    Not using OSMF this is working:
    protected function initSound():void
         var sound:Sound = new Sound();
         sound.load(new URLRequest("http://listen.to.techno4ever.net/dsl/mp3"));
         sound.play();
    Thanks for any input on this...
    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,
    What stream?
    I get only a playlist file :
    [playlist]
    File1=http://listen.to.techno4ever.net/dsl/mp3
    Title1=Techno4ever Radio - 24 hours open
    Length1=-1

    NumberOfEntries=1
    Version=2
    Neither of your example worked.
    on the other hand,
    var sprite:MediaPlayerSprite = new MediaPlayerSprite();
    addChild(sprite);
    sprite.resource = new URLResource("http://mediapm.edgesuite.net/osmf/content/test/train_1500.mp3");
    does play a good mp3 file.
