Unable to load my Macbook

When I start up my Macbook, it goes to the apple loady screen, goes to a blue screen, then back to the apple loady screen and freezes.
Reasonably sure I know what I did to provoke this: I downloaded a bunch of updates. I selected restart and it starts to load the updates. Right about now I get bored of waiting and shut it down.
I restart it in safe mode and finished the downloads and updates. Still won't load.
I used the disk utility to try and fix something. Still won't load.
Extended Apple Hardware test showed nothing wrong.
Pretty much out of ideas. Help!

Hi ordanrm!
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you cancelled the system updates earlier, it's more than likely that you've put the operating system in an unusable state. The fact that a safe mode boot and disk utility both did not resolve the issue, would further support that.
Next best step is to run an Archive & Install from your System Restore disc.

  • Unable to load Flash 9 on my Intel MacBook Pro

Unable to load Flash 9 on my Intel MacBook Pro but can on my
Intel iMac. I spoke with a Tech from the Mac Store service area and
was told that there in a thread on this issue but I can't find it.
The basic issue is that I am able to load Adobe Flash Player
9 on my Intel iMac but not on my Intel MacBook Pro and I'm unable
to determain why. I tryed uninstalling and reinstalling three times
    and found no difference.
If someone could help me I'd be thankful.
    Dave

I bought the $29 version of Snow Leopard (not the kosher way of doing things, i know.
If you read the license agreement, there's actually no difference between what's allowed with the $29 copy and the $169 boxed set. The only difference is that the boxed set also includes iLife and iWork. There is also, despite what some will have you believe, nothing in the license agreement that requires Leopard to be pre-installed except in the case of the $10 disk purchased as part of the Up-to-Date program (for folks who bought a machine shortly before SL was released). So, you're not being bitten by some technical requirement for Leopard to be present.
I get a flashing folder with a question mark. My disk drive makes some crazy noises as well, and it seems to start running fast, then slowing down. I think it may have caused a minor scratch on the disk as well.
Sounds like it's possible the drive could be failing, though that's impossible to say for sure remotely. One man's crazy noises are another man's normal state of operations. Do other DVDs work in your drive?
I'll also need to do an "Archive & Install" since there are tons of important files on this machine.
*DO NOT* attempt to install a system update on this machine unless you have good backups! If something goes wrong, you're screwed if you didn't have a backup. Hopefully, you have not reached that point already... I'm unclear on whether your machine is no longer able to boot, or if it's only having trouble when you try to boot from the SL disk.
If your machine is still functional, your first priority before doing *+anything else+* should be to make at least two backups. See my [Mac Backup Guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/backups> for assistance with this.
If your machine can't boot anymore, let us know and we'll offer some troubleshooting tips. And don't try to do anything else with it until you've consulted with some expert, whether here or at an Apple Store or somewhere else.

  • Unable to load facebook on my MacBook Pro

I have been unable to load facebook on my MacBook Pro for almost the past 2 weeks on my wireless internet at home.  It started out not loading using Google Chrome, but the problem quickly spread to all of my browsers (Chrome, Firefox, and Safari). On Chrome I get the following message: "No Data Recieved Unable to load the webpage because the server sent no data.  Error 324." On Safari, it says "Safari can't open the page."  My internet connection is fine for all other websites other than facebook.  Furthermore, when I brought my MacBook Pro out-of-town facebook worked fine on a different internet source.  In addition, facebook and all other websites are able to load on other devices on my home internet (desktops, laptops, iPad, iPod).
I have contacted both my internet service provider and the manufacturer of my router and neither company had any idea how to fix it. They seemed to think it was either a facebook problem or a problem with my MacBook.
I have a tried a few things that seemed to provide a temporary fix lasting about 5 mintues or a few clicks around facebook:
    1. clearing the cache and history in my browswers
    2. changing some settings on my router
    3. restarting the router
    4. connecting to the internet using ethernet instead of wireless
I would really appreciate any help in trying to fix this problem!

    Hello there,
I had the same exact problem. This is a simple DNS issue which you can fix through your system prefernces. Look at the DNS setup (System Preferences/Network/Wireless/Advanced)
After doing so, go to THC/IP then there try to change in the Configure IPV: to DNS manual address, try inserting the ip address you had previously. It wont work but by doing so, the computer will try to inster new settings. Then go back to was there before which is Using DHCP... then go back to DNS tab on top add your ip address and connect as usual. This worked for me, I was lucky I have no clue how it worked I was just trying to fool around with the DNS settings which are clearly the source of the issue.
    hope it works for you.

Have a brand new MacBook Pro.  Downloaded Acrobat Reader from Adobe web site, and tried to install.  Getting an "Unable to Load Metafile" error.
Looked it up on Google, and didn't see any useful information.
How do I fix this and get the software installed?
    Thanks

  • I'm unable to load certain websites across all browsers on a MacBook Pro

Suddenly I'm unable to load certain websites (sundancechannel.fr, sundancechannel.tw, etc.) across all browsers—Safari, Firefox, Chrome—on my new MacBook Pro. Other computers on the same wifi can access those same sites fine.
I either get a won't connect to server message or a blank page.
    Any idea what's going on?
I've thus far tried restarting the connection, clearing my cache, restarting the computer, deleting my history, and even getting in touch with the site owners.

    Cambrey,
that HTML content shows that there’s no content at that Web site — it will only show the heading “301 Moved Permanently” and the single line “nginx/1.2.6”. I suspect that they might have wanted to include a redirection directive in that document, but for some reason, they didn’t. Your browsers are behaving as they ought to do with this Web site.
Have you considered trying www.sundancechannel.fr in your browsers instead of sundancechannel.fr?

  • Unable to Load Dataclass Information

I purchased an iPhone 3Gs last July. When I tried to synch it with my desktop, a Dell Studio 540 with a quad core running Vista 64 bit it gave me the infamous error message "Unable to load Dataclass Information from Synch Servers. Reconnect or try again later". Since this time I have, removed and re-installed iTunes, rebooted both the system and iPhone, gone through three updates to iTunes and three to my iPhone, followed every alleged cure on the blogs, contacted support and filed a ticket (three months ago and now I don't even get responses back to my e-mails, sorry fellows just not feeling the love), a trip to the genius bar, a total phone replacement, and a subscription to mobile.me as a work around (this did not work either as Mobile.Me will not synch with it either). I finally bought a Macbook Pro and had to enter all of my contacts from Outlook 2007, and I have to maintain my calendar from my Iphone or MacBook Pro to keep them up to date. As of this date I STILL have not heard from support and STILL cannot synch my Outlook 2007 contacts or calendar and I still get the same error message, any ideas????

Hmm .. a new one to me. There is a discussion of that here:

after the last Yosemite update on my MacBook pro I turned the FileVault on, now my Mac is freezing all the time and encrypting the drive looks like going to last forever and I am unable to use my MacBook pro what must I do???!!!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • "iTunes was unable to load dataclass from Sync Services"

Hi, I have iPod Touch 2nd gen 32 gb, everytime I plug my iPod to computer and after it finished auto-sync my iPod, an error message appear saying "iTunes was unable to load dataclass from Sync Services", I haven't do anything to my iPod yet. . . Can anyone help me with this?? T_T

I've had a similar problem but on a Mac. Here's what I just reported to Apple:
    1. I plug in my iPod Touch 2G to MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.1.
    2. iTunes launches.
    3. Error message appears: "itunes was unable to load dataclass information from SYnc Services. Reconnect or try again later." I hit ok.
    4. Another error message launches: "AppleMobileDeviceHelper quit unexpectedly." I hit ignore.
    5. iPod syncs.
So the support article regarding the error message on Windows doesn't help me. The iPod seems to be synchronizing all right, but it's annoying getting the error messages. Any ideas, anyone?

  • Unable to load pictures with mac osx..

I was wondering if anyone knows the reason why I'm unable to load pictures with my macbook for e-bay when I sell??? It just keep turning and turning with no results...
Is it the new operating platform (osx) or what could it be?? I have tried it with an older mac, had no problem loading them....
    Thanks for comments....David..

Is there an uploader program from ebay that you use? If so, then you might try digging out the preference file from your library/preferences and see if it generates a new, non-corrupt one. If it uses a browser interface and that is stalling, then I'd suggest using a different browser. You can also ask ebay support.

  • Unable to load Flash player

On my IMac, OSX 10.5.8, Lightroom running 64 bit I am not able to see any Flash galleries in the Web window - "Unable to load Flash player". Changing to 32 bit solves the problem, but was not the idea of creating a 64 bit version i suppose.
Tried uninstalling Flash Player and then reinstalling it - did not change anything.Tried creating a new account - same result.
I am also running a beta version of Lightroom 3 on my MacBook Pro in 64 bit, same OSX, and it does NOT have the same problem. Flash galleries showes up just fine.
Any ideas what to do other than wait for Flash Player 64 bit?

Flash Player is integrated into IE for Windows 8 & 8.1 by Microsoft. Since it's a "plug-in" and NOT a program, you'll NEVER find it listed as a program. It's located in C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash.
The problem with IE11 is that Microsoft not only screwed up the code, but they refuse to admit it doesn't work. The pages can't recognize the browser, so they don't recognize any of the plugins, like Flash Player. So far, Microsoft has made NO indication that they have any plan to fix it soon.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using an different browser. Trouble with that is it has seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Lightroom 3 - Web module - Unable to load Flash Player

Running to most uptodate version of Lightroom 3 - on OS X 10.6.4 also fully up to date.  Have downloaded and installed the latest Flash Player from the site.  This problem seems only to be on my 2.8ghz iMac with 2 gig of RAM.  Lightroom 3 and flash galleries work great on my 2ghz Macbook with 2 gig of RAM.
When accessing the web module and trying to use one of the flash templates I either get a blank black screen or a white one with the error message of Unable to Load Flash Player.  From there I hit the Preview in Browser button and a flash gallery did come up in Safari, just not in Lightroom.
Does anyone else have this problem, and more importantly how did they solve it.........

Replying to myself.... I solved the problem by creating a new User Account in my OS.  Solved the Lightroom problem and also a problem with Mini Bridge in Photoshop CS5, where it wouldn't open Bridge.

  • Can't load Yosemite, MacBook running OSX 10.7.5

I have a Mid 2007 13-inch MacBook running OSX 10.7.5 and I'm unable to load Yosemite. I get the following message:  "We could not complete your purchase. This version of OS X 10.10 cannot be installed on this computer." My Mac is up-to-date and it has 18 GB of available space. Anyone know why I can't get this loaded?

Before you install Yosemite, make sure you have one of these Macs:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) Your model is a Mid '07
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)

  • Quicken - unable to load file - what to do?

I recently upgraded my operating system from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion (10.8.2) on my 2009 MacBook.  I then upgraded my quicken to 2007 for lion, loaded up my quicken file  and it worked fine.  Then I turned off my computer.
Well, when I came back to it, the file wouldn't open with the error message "unable to load file."  I started freaking out as I have many yrs and the entire tax year on quicken.  I found the link below, but show contents did not appear at step 5 so I was to call quicken.
    http://quicken.intuit.com/support/help/backup--restore--file-issues/message-when -opening-quicken-for-mac--unable-to-open-file/GEN83256.html
I paid for and called intuit support, and after about an hour, the person said that my file must be corrupt (though it was just working this morning and on previous version).  He kept having me do the above link with many different data files.
Anyway, after he hung up, I did get a version from a month ago to load up and re-entered data to catch up, closing quicken and backing up onto my external drive, etc. over and over again.  I thought I was good to go but...
I turned off my computer to see if it would okay and after rebooting, again came the "unable to load file" error message. What can I do?  I really need my quicken to work?  Should I call India again and go through the same scripts with quicken?  Please help!

I use Quicken 2007 and in my documents folder there is a Quicken Backup Folder that appears to update every time I quit Quicken. In the Files menu there are backup, restore, and save a copy commands.  Maybe if you save a copy manually, it will not be corrupt. If that is the case, then try reloading the Quicken program. It is possible you got a corrupt download.
If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads. It appears you may be doing that since you found the link you posted.
