Unable to load RAW images to Photoshop elements 10

tells me that the file type is not supported. Ideas?

You have three alternatives:
(1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original CR2’s as backup) or (3) Use Canon DPP bundled with your camera.
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.2
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.2
You can convert a whole folder of CR2 images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

When opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9 (File -> Open or File -> Open As), the Adobe Camera Raw dialog do not open.
Instead I get a window with a progress bar and the text "Reading Camera Raw Format".
The image then opens in the Photoshop Elements editor.
I have tested this with raw images both from Canon EOS 1000D and Samsung WB2000 cameras.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue.
I run Photoshop Elements on a HP netbook running Widows XP and with an Intel Atom N450 / 1.66 GHz processor, 2 GB ram and a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Unfortunately you can't see the raw converter in PSE 9 on screens less than 800 px tall, which means not on netbooks. PSE will automatically convert it for you, but that dialog box and a few others, like the Advanced Downloader window, will not appear.

  • I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt. When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.

I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt.  When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.0 get an error message.   I installed the camera raw update 4.2 but that didn't work.  Any suggestions.

    Hi,
Elements version 5 was made obsolete by Elements 6 back in 2007.  The T3i was only released 2-3 years ago.  Adobe was up to Elements version 9 or 10 by then.  Every camera has its own particular camera raw software, and Adobe has to write an update for the software to work with each new camera's RAW files.  And Adobe stops updating the old versions to work with new cameras when the next version of Elements/Lightroom come out.
I had to buy Lightroom 4 only 6 months after I had bought Lightroom 3 when I bought a new camera.  The older version would not, and never will, work with the RAW files from my 6D.
You could, I believe, use DPP to convert the RAW files before exporting them into Elements 5, but personally I would just take this as a cue that it is time to get Elements 11.  Or Lightroom 5.  I personally prefer Lightroom.

  • How do I download raw images into photoshop elements 11.

I am having difficulty downloading my raw images to photoshop elements 11.  Files are currently on a thumb drive, but I don't know how to download to elements.  I have the thumb drive plugged in --- not sure where to go from here. I have verified that I have the plug in - version 7.1.0.354.
    Any ideas?

You can either drag them in Organizer workspace or import the folder. Or you can also use Adobe Photo Downloader. There are many options listed here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/getting-started/import-camera-or-card-reader.htm l

  • Olympus E500 RAW Image in Photoshop Elements 4.0

I am trying to find out if anyone has worked with the Olympus RAW Image (.orf) in Photoshop Elements. I downloaded the plug-in from the Olympus America site and installed it into Elements. Although the plug-in said that it was for Photoshop 5.0 or higher it loaded fine. However, when I open an image in Elements the interface is very basic and does not look at all like the Elements 4.0 interface. Thus I am wondering if anyone else has tried to use the Olympus RAW image with Photoshop and found a better plug in?
Alternatively is someone can give me some other input on how to edit these photos I would be appreciative.

You want to ditch that Olympus plug-in - i.e., take it out of the plug-ins
folder in Elements - and make sure you have the version of Adobe Camera Raw
which covers your camera. Once you find that, install it in place of the
one that shipped with Elements (probably 2.4) and your images ought to open
    directly into ACR.

  • Raw images in Photoshop Elements 12

I connected the camera to my Mac Book Air to download my latest photos using a Nikon D3300. Went to open a raw photo in my adobe photoshop elements 12 and it claims it is unable to read/open the file. I just downloaded and opened other photos a week ago and now it doesn't work. Please help!!

Phew, got that figured out but then it just sits in a little box window that acts as if it is loading info.

  • Can't open raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

I've just finished doing a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 SP1 onto my desktop PC.  I installed Photoshop Elements 9 but it can't open any raw images (specifically Canon .CR2).  When I open one of the same images with Photoshop CS5.1, it properly opens up the image in Camera Raw (6.6), allows me to pre-process the image, then edits it in Photoshop (as you would expect).
Before installing Photoshop, I did manually install Adobe Camera Raw 6.2, then upgrade it (multiple steps) up to the current v6.6.
I also copied the Camera Raw.8bi into the Plug-Ins\File Formats sub-directory of both C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 9 Organizer and C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9 but there was no change of behavior with Photoshop Elements 9.
This was working prior to the re-install of Windows 7.
Any suggestions on how to get this working?  Thank you, in advance.

When I to to Help>Update, it offers to update Photoshop Elements to v9.0.3 but no mention is made of Camera Raw (any version).  I'm not even sure how to determine what version it thinks is installed since there's no reference to Adobe Camera Raw in the Windows 7 Programs and Feature Control Panel applet.
    Suggestions?

  • Raw images in Photoshop Elements 3

Hi. I just got a new pc that has Windows Vista. I installed Photoshop Elements and CS2, and now I am trying to upload raw images to PE3, but it keeps uploading the jpeg file, not the raw. It works on XP, but not Vista. Is it a o/s problem or am i doing something else wrong. I am using a Canon EoS 20 D, and my PS3 and CS2 are all updated. Upgrading the software is not an option at the moment, so any help would be appreciated!

It could well be an OS problems as I believe that PSE 5 was the first that Adobe supported in Vista and that needed a patch to make it 5.02.

  • Cant import NEF RAW images into Photoshop Elements 9.

before anyone says i have the updated camera raw plug in because i have already looked so it should work, but it doesnt.
i took the images with the Nikon D3200 i NEF RAW format.
but photoshop kept on saying that the format was not supported, i was opening them up through FILE, OPEN, then i was browsing for the photos, but it would keep ion saying that the file was not supported.
but then i saw some where that you ha to open the image up through OPEN AS, so i did it that way, and for a moment it looked like it was working but then photoshop elements 9 crashed and it said it couldnt open up the image due to problem, can someone help me.
for the time being i will just use the JPEG images because i took and NEF RAW image and a JPEG image at the same time, which later on i will just replace the image with the NEF RAW image when i get it to work.
but until then cam some one help me try to get it to work, thank you.

before anyone says i have the updated camera raw plug in because i have already looked so it should work, but it doesnt.
The problem is that PSE9 will not support the version of camera raw that is needed for D3200 RAW files.
To make use of these D3200 RAW files, you need to download the FREE Adobe DNG Converter (version 8.2) and then use that software to convert the RAW to DNG.
Alternatively, you could purchase PSE 12, and then your D3200 RAW files will open properly without need for a converter.

  • Unable to load TIF images into Photoshop.

    CS4 (11.0.2) and Windows 7 Home Edition.
Have developed a problem trying to load some TIF images into Photoshop. I have a large number of images archived over a decade or more. At this point it may some of the older files that exhibit the problem. Now all these files were edited and stored using the Photoshop versions during the complete time period. The files are always saved with no compression. Have tried to load from Photoshop and clicking on the file in a file list. Photoshop just hangs and I get the message Program not responding. I can take these same files and load them into the ROXIO photo editor with no problem. Stranger yet is if I simply load the file into the ROXIO editor then "save as" back into the same folder (overwrite) the file can then be brought into Photoshop with no problem! Any ideas?

    Noel,
    Will try to keep short.
I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 from the cd CS set. Did not uninstall first. Restarted PC and Photoshop. Still failed the same way with a 3001 image.
Did the following, changing one item in the Edit->Preference->GPU Setting. After each change, closed Photoshop, reopened, brought in 3001 image, restored original setting. 3001 failed each time.
    * Unchecked Enable OpenGL Drawing
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Advanced Drawing.
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Color Matching
Next went to the Edit->Color Profile.
Scanned thru options and saw in the Convert Options: Engine. It was set to Adobe (ACE). ACE was the module name in the error detail!
Only other option for this is Microsoft ICM. Changed to that, close/open Photoshop and 3001 came in no problem. So did the Nikon 3000, srgb IEC 61922 2.1 and Untagged. However, when briging in an Adobe RGB(1998) image Photoshop notes Profile Mismatch. It allows me to decide what to do (use embedded profile instead of workspace; convert color to work space color; discard embedded profile. and I choose use the convert color and it loads ok. At least it loads the image! Will use this approach for now. I need to get educated on color profiles!!

  • Open Raw image in Photoshop Elements 6 from I Photo 09 plug in procedure

I am currently importing my photos into IPhoto 09 and editing in Elements 6. I now want to start using raw format but need the procedure for the plug in. I believe I have to manually copy the plug in in the root library but can't find the instructions. Can someone help?

I found the instructions I was looking for on the internet, see below. I downloaded the Raw Plug In for my Camera 4.4.1 followed the instructions below and now when I pick edit in IPhoto09 it opens the Elements Raw Converter. You are correct though, when I finish with converter and open elements for additional editing and save as JPEG it doesn't seem to go into IPhoto like the JPEG files I edit in Elements do.
You can download the latest versions of ACR from the Adobe (http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=106&platform=macintos h) downloads site.
We have an article on ACR in the next issue of the Photoshop Elements Techniques newsletter, but here's the simple instructions for installing an ACR update on the Mac:
If Elements is running, close it.
Open your mac’s hard drive by double-clicking on its icon.
If you are running Elements 6, open the folder Library/Application support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats.
In the File Formats folder, find the file called Camera Raw.8bi and move it to a folder on your desktop (or another, different location you will be able to find easily). This will serve as a backup in case there’s a problem with the installation. I usually make a folder on my desktop and name it old ACR.
Open the unzipped folder you downloaded and copy the new Camera Raw.8bi file into the File Formats folder that contained the old version (Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats). After it is copied, you can close that folder.
Launch Photoshop Elements again, and you should be ready to go.

  • Unable to open RAW files in Photoshop elements 5.0

I am using Windows XP, camera is Nikon D80. When I try to download NEF files I receive an error that reads files did not transfer. Reason given reads incompatible format. I just downloaded program today and not really sure what I have done wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.

I have spoken to this gentleman again and I suspect his trouble has come from the copy of Elements 5 that he bought over the Internet. I think it was an incomplete copy. It doesn't seem to have included Bridge. Without the browser I doubt he would be able to see his RAW images.
As it stands, when he double-clicks on a RAW image it opens in the RAW converter but he doesn't have the "Open with Bridge" option in the File menu. Consequently, he has no way to see thumbnails of his RAW images and he can't make wise decisions on which ones he wants to work on.
I guess it goes without saying that if you get an especially great price on the Internet, something is wrong!

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.
