Unable to load security updates in Mac OS

Is anyone else having issues installing the security updates in Mac OS?
Every time I got the notification about 3.6.13 security updates and click to download, it just keeps saying it's contacting the download server and never does anything.
Just got notification for 3.6.14 and the same problem occurs. How can I get these updates?

  • I cannot perform security update with Mac OS X v10.411

I cannot perform security update with Mac OS X v10.411.  My Mac Book Pro is super behind concerning updates and security.

Yes, I too have that problem.  And, I have actually been hacked into, had all of my files, folders, photos, applications, sys pref, (in-other-words) EVERYTHING copied and recopied.   It has been a nightmare.  My identity was completely stolen.  What makes it worse is that when I told apple ~ I was told by 1 Apple Supervising Technician that I was out of my mind and that it wasn't possible.  He was very dismissive and treated me if I were some kind of idiot.  Well, check out below.  This is since Saturday or Sunday last.  I didn't authorize this and I sure as **** don' know who any of these people are.
I installed the 10.5 disk.  And I too, like many Macbook Pro users had the "Black Screen" bug.  So I had to go back to 10.4.  I went back and this is what I inherited.   I now rarely have control over the computer, never my printer and I my security has been and is constantly being compromised.  I believe that Apple needs to own up to this and, perhaps, do something about it?  Am I asking too much?

  • How do I keep my macbook secure since Apple is not longer providing security updates for Mac OS X 10.5?

I just found out that Apple is no longer providing security updates on Mac OS X 10.5. What can I do to keep my comupter safe? I bought my laptop in Sept. '08 and I am not inclined to fork over a couple of thousand dollars when I have a perfectly functioning laptop. Any advise out there? Thnx

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Here's a 100% effective (though not necessarily practical) solution:
Never connect your computer to the internet, never insert a disc or flash drive from anyone else, never purchase any new software, and use the computer to write and print only actual letters, never connect to email.
Your computer will continue to function as it does now until it wears out, without being vulnerable to any new security threats out there, and will continue to work just fine on OS X 10.5 without any future security measures.
On a side note, I have a 16-year-old car I spent thousands of dollars to purchase new, but I've been driving it on the metal rims for a while now, because I'm not inclined to fork over money for tires, when I have an otherwise perfectly functioning car.
Then there are alternatives that cost money:
Purchase and install an antivirus program and keep it updated.
Upgrade your computer memory and hard disk if necessary so you can install OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard', or OS X 10.7 'Lion'  Snow Leopard is still supported by Apple for the moment, but support and security updates for 10.6 will likely be discontinued soon after OS X 10.8 'Mountain Lion' ships later this year.
Even though we want computers to be assets that retain or increase in value over time, the economic reality is that computers are best thought of as commodities and/or consumables that depreciate, become obsolete, and wear out, like cars, tires, and batteries. A restored 1965 Mustang Convertible, and a 2012 Mustang Convertible probably cost about the same. Which one is much safer, much faster, rides much better, and gets much better fuel mileage?
Your computer WILL be worth less five years after you purchase it than the day you bought it. The mechanical parts (hard disk) will eventually wear out. The microprocessor inside yours operates at perhaps 1/4th the maximum speed of the slowest current model. The latest video chipsets provide huge performance gains over 2008 technology. But if your current computer truly meets all your needs, then indeed there is no reason to update or upgrade.
If you're using your computer in business, a 2008 model is fully depreciated in 5 years (this year) and it's time to consider a new purchase.  In the US, IRS Publication 946 will get you started: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p946.pdf

  • HT5130 Unable to  install Security Update 2012-001 for Mac OS 10.6.8

Have just tried to install Security Update 2012-001 for Mac OS 10.6.8 and get message saying cannot download. Download stalls at Zero kB downloaded. Dialog says an error occurred during download.
Internet connection is fine and first time denial has occurred.

Looking at all the posts about the deficiencies of this update, you may have just lucked out, especially if you are, like many of us, still running PowerPC programs under Rosetta.

  • Please read this before you load SECURITY UPDATE 2010-006

I've just spent 72 hours with frozen cursors and frozen screens - so far all directly related to security update 2010-006. After successfully using SuperDuper! to erase my Internal HD and load a 2+ week old system without security update 2010-006 I seem to be fine again.
OK I have so much share-free ware on my MBP-13" (May 2010) running 10.6.4 that maybe I'm the only one on the planet to see this - but there is a 214 PAGE post for MBP-15 and MPB-17's freezing -- prior to Security Update 2010-006 ------ related or not, don't know.
I believe I will actually get a duplicate MacBook Pro (or at least a MINI with the same chip/speed) so that I can keep one clean and experiment (i.e. download stuff) on the other. Then if a problem, my life doesn't stop. I realize that from banking to photos to news to work to reports to my balance sheet to SKYPE to eMail to....... wow, and in 1983 I just had my HP calculators!! These Macs just have to work!
Best of success and comments welcome here.

    11 Oct 2010

Thanks for the feedback! I think my system is now "OK" (hours of checks, with Apple as well etc. etc.) but likely there was a conflict - and since I don't know what - and since I can't remove everything right now - if this keeps working I just won't install the security update 2010-006.
BUT will this sneak up on me in security update 2010-007 or ??? I kinda have to get to the bottom of this - am actually thinking of buying a second, almost identical Mac (or at least a somewhat cheaper MINI 2.4 gHz) to have some backup beyond my external drives (which saved me!)
Thanks again and any/all comments truly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte

  • Installer unable to validate security update- help please

i keep getting installer unable to install...security updates 2010-03/quicktime updates and so on. Why is this happening and how can i fix it. I have tried Onyx and clean my mac to try and clean up files in hopes it will randomly update and fix. im getting frustrated right now and I need some advise and direction. Onyx says my volume is ok.

Move all the files that have softwareupdate in their title out of your user's /Library/Preferences/ and ByHost subfolder, restart, and try again. If that doesn't do it, then boot with your Leopard install disk and reinstall it, selecting the Archive & Install, saving user and network settings, option. If that fixes the issue, run Software Update and bring the OS back up to 10.5.8. If not, then I'm out of ideas.

  • HT1338 Unable to install security Update 2012-004

I am unable to update my Mac (OS X Version 10.6.8) with the latest security update 2012-004 despite numerous attempts and even visitng the store and trying to install manually, HELP !
I can check for software updates that are available and click on the install & restart option but when the computer reboots an new software update check produces the exact same results.  The software clearly isn't upadating.  I initially had 2 updates - the other being Java for Mac OS X 10.6 update 11.  After fiddling around for ages I managed to get this update installed by going to the downloads page and installing directly.  However, I have had no sucess with the Security update.  The last Security update installed was 2012-002.  I have tried to find and install Security Update 2012-3 without sucess.

Try reinstalling the Snow Leopard combo update (again).   If it has already been done it won't hurt to do it again on top of the existing one.
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Restart your machine and then try to download the security update 2012 -004 which I believe is the latest.

  • Cisco AnyConnect WEB/SSL VPN - does not launch after Apple's security update on Mac OS 10.7 and 10.6

    AnyConnect version: 2.5.2001
Mac OS versions: 10.7.2 and 10.6.8
We used to invoke Cisco AnyConnect VPN via the Safari browser for the SSL URL and it used to work fine on Mac OS 10.6 and 10.7. Apple released a security update on 8/Nov/2011 (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5045) and after applying the update, invoking AnyConnect from the browser no longer invokes the AnyConnect application on the machine. The browser stops at this page repeatedly:
I have installed AnyConnect on my machine and am able to invoke it explicitly, but browser login just fails to do that. I have tried re-installing AnyConnect, but the problem still persists.
Any help would be highly appreciated as we are in a show-stopped situation because of this issue.
    Thanks
    Vivek.

This is an old issue, but I ran into it continually this month while trying to use AnyConnect on my Mac 10.8+ version.
    For me, the solution was:
I realized that I should have seen a pop-up warning me about the dangers of using Java etc. etc but it seemed as if my computer was blocking it automatically without giving me the option.
I went to the Java page (Java.com) and clicked on "Do I have Java?" The plug-in was inactive, so clicking it allowed me to check that my Java was up to date. Going back to my AnyConnect, this time, it seemed to go through and give me all the pop-ups allowing me to allow Java.

  • I loaded security update 2015-001; now images don't load

    Mavericks 10.9.5
    13-inch, Mid 2012 MacBook Pro
    Google Chrome 40.0.2214.94 (64-bit)
    and Apple Mail Version 7.3
After loading the 2015-001 security update, websites will randomly not load (sometimes the Reload button works, and sometimes not). Same with images in email and on websites.
I've tried reloading the update, restarting the computer, and resetting my cable modem and wireless modem. I've tried Renew DHCP lease, and I've tried switching from wireless to an ethernet connection. This update has made my internet and email nearly unusable. I need suggestions of what else I can try to get this working again.

Software update found the security update, but when I tried to install it there was some error and the installer pkg was moved to the trash. Software update recognized this, told me it happened and that I should try to open the pkg manually. Still didn't work. I went to the Apple Downloads page, downloaded the update again, and that one wouldn't install either.
    Anyone else having this problem?
    Any ideas?

ok, it took me a while to get disk first aid going. found a bunch of incorrect permissions that needed repairing, but otherwise no problems.
I wanted to get my new backup hard drive before I started messing with the install disk, so it's been many steps.
I've got software update trying again now.......
I think it may have worked!
tells me I have to restart. =) Yay!

  • For some reason I am unable to load the updates from the App Store for ever notes. When I try to, I am told I am already on a new version, which in fact is not the case. Anyone else with exposure to this? I have also written to Evernote and App Store

Similar configuration and circumstances incuding unexplaining lag time in keyboard and mouse both just s
    s
Check your purchase history and see what shows?  Check to see if your Apple ID has had any pw changes recently and if it is still registered as before.  I found some unsual anomolies is this area where and Apple ID fail off the radar screen apparently and then reappeared and that was for I Tunes.  I am having the same problem with App Store as I did a recent wipe of my Mac OSX hard drive and I Pad 2.  Initially it appeared  a gap in records, so where are the other apps i know i purchased, then with I Tunes, restrictions around ability to download music on my Mac, which I had been doing all year, and transfer to I Pad 2 or I Phone, which i had been doing all year long as wll.  The I Tunes matter has gotten better, but I've engaged Express Support, Contacted Store, and others, have not received a definte explanation yet
From an App Store perspective, I noticed at least 50% discrepancy verus what I have bought and what they had showing. Again, some i think will be linked to the disappearing and reappearing Apple ID  which i can only assume is a sporadic database issue, but quite stratling and problematic if you need your apps restored quicly.
I have a similar configuration, plus had Lion Server, have not reinstalled server yet, awaiting stabiliztion of OSX, but i think that may have some relevance to the location of a variety of the elusive content, but only a hunch at this point.
There are a number of virus elements which have not been picked up consistently. Some operating as bots within a platform where they actually take charge of certain activites and it becomes a struggle to rid them. I am using  Kaspersaky Universal One which has helped some we had over 17 threats in 1 hour yesterday, but they diffused them.  I've got so many odd issues happening now like downloads directed to the wrong folders for major loads to typing locking up  on both blue tooth and usb but i notice a quick switch makes a difference.  Hint Hint, so i feel like I am in the Bermuda Triangle right now with so many strange things happeining including the post below about Evernote, same here.  Pay close attention to Virus, Malware, and check your log files for unusual activities and and also watch your key chains closley for any attacks. Some of the problems i have encountered actually involve activities taking place within sttps: sessions, so I think a number of things are going on that require an intense focus from the user, Apple Tech and Security and outside resources, because it is becoming more widespread and even though I believe some can be explained relative to user error and lack of familierity, some cannot as the timing and acceleration is to coincendental in my humble opionion.  Hope these areas to look for offer some resolution for you as well as some insight into other areas that could be problematic if not closley monitored.

I think not the question, but "What is your issue"?  Afraid to learn the truth of today's reality of Cyber threats and to give other community users the the benefits of such or too just mimize my response as a "wandering rant" ?
I'm actually going to take the high road on this one "for the most part" in contrast to the response you provided to me which reflects your seemingly low road mentallity and lack of appreciation for a new member simply trying to add some value based on recent and current real world experience:
    1) I am a new community member and inadvertently may have submitted a response to a problem i saw versus submitting a question; however, i quickly noted that point.
    2) I selected Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion, Lion Server and other products ( that's right, i do own Apple products) for their resiliency to virus, malware, and for their peformance, design and reputation. I still believe I made the right decison.
However, I take exception to your inherent criticism and vailed insults on behalf of myself and the large number of excellent Apple Support representatives, many Sr. Advisors, and External Virus/Malware experts engaged, at the suggestion of Apple and others to help resolve my system issues.
Downloading of Apps from AppStore, I Tunes, and Evernotes were in one way or another impacted by these virus, malware and hacker activites.  To the credit of Apple, i have not found a single fradulent transaction, however the trouble makers had broader objectives which have caused problems and easily could many others both consumer and enterprise class. Given ongoing criminal investigation, l'll keep those particlualrs confined
If you actually took time to read my "rant" versus simply belittiling and criticizing my sincere efforts to help somone else you would see there are some meaningful points to take into consideration. You want the post removed, feel free, it only shows to further reflect your naivety and lack of consideration for others unless it suits your myopic and narrow minded perspective to the real cyber threats we all "can" face. Even selecting Mac arguably one of the very best platforms, still does not afford you the flexibiity to assume you or your company, as in my case, is immune.
If i told you the specifics, of course, it would clearly be beyond your comprehension as your mind is obviously too closed to even consider the thought let alone understand the intricacies of their tools and tactics. Write to the Wall Street, NY Times, you suggest; please, you simply bury your self further in the sand by haphazardly suggesting such a foolish idea. Just another petty attempt to diminish the threat and again show your lack of respect for a quality company and organizaton as Apple who is aggressively working to address my concerns and plan for the next product release without giving up IP and wasting time answering to the media when there is real work to be done industry wide.
In contrast, I will let Apple to what Apple does best...get it or still not ??  See, they have seen for a long time what you clearly don't, and that is that no system is ever perfect. That is why Mountain Lion will have a NextGen Firewall & associated tools a.k.a Cyber Castle, which has been under  development for sometime and reviewed by industry experts before release so as usual Apple will do their very best to get it right and will again be advanced in many ways ahead of the pack.
So, i've wasted too much important time trying to open your eyes to reallity. When you wake up in the morning, remove your head from the sand and wipe the grains from your eyes, have a read of this....oh, and don't bother responding or apologizing.  As you said, it's not worth your time to hear from me; in contrast, I felt it was worth my time to keep you from misleading others by your lack of respect for the real Cyber threats we face and that any system designed can be penetrated if the bad guys want in bad enough.  Time to get real Sand-man.....

  • Help! Aspyr Games Not Loading After Updating To Mac OS X 10.4.11

I can't seem to get my Sims 2 game to load after installing the latest update. It will bounce once in the dock then disappear.
I called Aspyr and they said it was a problem with Apple's update, not their game(s) or company.
I was told to see if I could update to 10.5.5 and that this should fix things. How would I do that, and first of all, would that be a good idea? Is it even possible? I'm (clearly) running Tiger.
I'm very confused because I haven't been able to connect to the internet for about a month and finally installed the Apple updates and then I started having all these problems. I'm not sure what to do!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions on your drive. If that doesn't work, follow the more extensive instructions for repairing your drive.
As you have observed, you are running Tiger and the company told you to upgrade to Leopard, which I agree isn't very helpful unless you want to upgrade (is it worth it?).

From BDaqua (couldn't have said it better):
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer (Edit: Do not use this disc if it is not the same general version as what you have currently on your computer, e.g. use a Tiger disc for a Tiger drive, not a Panther disc), then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Then Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes."

  • How to get free AVG Net Security Update for Mac

I have AVG Internet Security anti-virus on one of my Macs and got a notice there is an update. However, everything I find on the AVG site and elsewhere is .exe files and not for Mac. WHERE do I get the correct one? And a notice appears saying it is now $50 - originally it was free!
Also, is it safe to use AVG just for Net security and free MacScan for the MacBook itself? When my website was last hacked, AVG did not report it at all as it had the previous time. On my iMac I use free Sophos.
Is there a site that recommends the  best free (or low-cost) anti-virus programs for both the actual Macs and Internet use? Most seem to be run by the makers of the anti-virus software.

I've used ClamXav for years, and recommend it. When it comes to virus's, like the stock market, past performance is no guarantee for the future. ClamXav is donation ware (free to download and use, donations accepted), and is kept very up to date. You can download it from http://www.clamxav.com .  I have mine set up to scan email and downloads.
In addition, you should have your OS X firewall enabled, including in the advanced options, stealth mode.

  • Unable to load MS Office for Mac

I just bought a MacAir and thought that I correctly loaded MS Office but none of the programs work.  I tried to re-load, but now I have two MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & Excel icons in the tray that don't work.  I would greatly appreciate advice on how to remove the nonn-working icons from the tray and how to successfull install MS Office.  Thank you very much!

No way around it.  You must upgrade to Office 2011.

I suggest you post Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products.

  • No audio after latest security update on mac mini

it seems that my audio out from my mac mini into my tv stopped working after i updated the last security install. is anyone else having this problem?

I have the same problem.  Yes, a restart brings back the HDMI audio (the internal speaker was always working too), but it only lasts until it goes to sleep for a long period...usually overnight...then same no audio issue.  I took it in to an Apple store and after 2 days they told me "no hardware issues".  No kidding, hardware problems are rarely solved by a restart!!!  Some software update is causing this...and Apple needs to fix it!!
