Unable to locate a default player for iTunes audio files in Windows Vista
I previously owned a Compaq and saved my music in an external storage and worked perfectly. I then purchased a HP with Windows Vista and now am having problems with iTunes. The new computer indicates that iTunes has detected that is not the default player for audio files. It gives me a selection of file extensions, "iTunes music database files", "iTunes music store URL", "M3U Audio Playlist", "MPED4 Audio Files", and others in Windows Media Player. Which one should I select? Thanks
Joe
I created a config file (which is very handy in deployment and debuggin) that contains the class name and other additional parameters that is available in the optionsMap inside the LoginModule.
My Config file looks like :
DatabaseAuthenticate {
com.mahesh.research.jaas.auth.CLoginModule required debug=true database.userid="matest" database.password="matest" database.driver="oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver" database.url="jdbc:oracle:thin:@den-dev-2:1521:trexdev" ;
and i have an entry in the policy file
grant{
permission java.util.PropertyPermission "*" , "read, write" ;
when running the application i specify the following VM Parameter.
-Djava.security.auth.login.config ="file:/D:/Research/Jb6/JaasResearch/config/login.config"
offcourse, the jar files in the classpath.
When i Create a LoginContext and call its login() method, Everything works fine.
you might wanna try this way and very important you need to specify all permission.
if you are running under Security manager , try switcing on the debug option as -Djava.security.debug=access.failure that should give a hint on where the problem is.
hope this helps

How to make Adobe Flash Player the default player for .flv, .f4v files?
I have currently installed from Adobe the following applications:
Adobe Bridge CS6 (64bit)
Adobe Bridge CS6
Adobe Dreamweaver CS6
Adobe Encore CS6
Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit CS6
Adobe Extension Manager CS6
Adobe Fireworks CS6
Adobe Flash Professional CS6
Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64bit)
Adobe InDesign CS6
Adobe Media Encoder CS6
Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64bit)
Adobe Prelude CS6
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6
Adobe SpeedGrade CS6
Adobe Flash Builder is not installed.
Adobe Premiere After Effects is not installed.
I've just downloaded Adobe Flash Player 13, but .flv files and .f4v files are not played by Adobe Flash Player. I've tried to make it default player but i didn't release which file .exe to browse for (by right-clicking and choosing Open with > Choose default program...).There's a Flash Player Projector (standalone) in the Flash Professional CS6/Players folder, but it's usually outdated.
When browsing to an app to use from the Properties window, go there, but... download this one: Windows Flash Player 13 Projector and replace the Flash Player that's in that folder.
If you're looking to test Flash files you've authored, then you'll need the Projector, but if you're just looking for a good player for FLV and F4V, then you should use VLC Media Player. http://www.videolan.org/ -
Stop Illustrator from being default player for Flash .swf files
Please help. I am on Mac OS X. I have the Adobe CS suite. I
have downloaded, uninstalled, and reinstalled the flash player.
However, whenever I download a flash file to play, it automatically
opens in Illustrator. But Illustrator doesn't recognize it as a
file so it doesn't open. I went through preferences and I can't
find anything that will get it to stop doing that. I don't know how
to get to the preferences for the flash player to change that. And
there isn't a way have it open up in flash player because the flash
player is not an actual application that comes up in the
applications list. There is a certain website that it is mainly
.swf flash files that I have not been able to access because of
this problem. What do I do?Have you received information on how to change this
situation? My SWF files always open Illustrator, also. -
ITunes doesn't recognise iPod as the default player for audio files.
A few weeks ago my husband completely re-installed our laptop, without properly looking at how to backup my iPod touch. Everything was lost and I have had to start again, however the system still comes up with this message each time I plug the iPod in:
iTunes has detected this is not the default player for audio files. Would you like to go to the Default Program Control Panel to fix this.
I go to the Control Panel, but have no idea what to do.
Can anyone please help me?
I have not upgraded to version (4.0)
Thanks in advance.Hello Geordie81,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are you sure it wasn't referring to making iTunes the default application for audio files as described in this Apple support document? Worth a shot anyways.

Vista - how do you make iTunes the default player for audio files?
Having started using iTunes on a new Vista PC, I've found that it defaults back to Windows Media as the default audio file player every time the machine is rebooted.
But worse than that, I cannot find any option to make iTunes the default player for MP3 files - under the Vista settings, the ONLY option offered is Windows Media: there is not even a box to tick for iTunes.
Have others found this? Is there any way around this?
(I thought that Microsoft was legally precluded from making these kind of enforced settings now???)Although I now seem to have successfully made iTunes the default player for audio files, iTunes has started putting up this message:
"The iTunes Music Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
A quick scan of the forum shows this problem has come up quite a few times, but I'm far from clear if there is a definitive answer/solution. I am the administrator for the computer. It sounds worrying that the Library file is not being saved - should I be worried? -

How do I set itunes to be my default player for every file that I have (VLC is my default player now)
Mac OS X: Double-Clicking a File Opens the Wrong Application - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2291
-= Changing the application used to open all files of a certain kind (written with reference to OSX 10.4 but may not have changed) =-
1) In a Finder window highlight a file of the kind you want to change the application to open that kind of file.
2) While that file is highlighted, select File > Get Info or press command (apple or propeller icon) + i to get a file information window.
3) In the lower part of the info window there is an "open with" menu with a list of applications.
4) If your application is already in the box then it is the default application for opening that kind of file and you don't need to do anything more. Close the get info window.
5) If the application showing in the menu is not the one with which you wish to open the file then select a new application. If your application does not appear there then select the "other..." and track down the application (usually in the Applications folder at the main level of the computer).
6) If you wish to change all files of this type to open with this application in future, make sure the "change all" button is selected.
7) Close the get info window. -
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types"
Getting ready for a deployment of version 9.2 of iTunes for 1400+ users.
Getting this error when a 'normal' user goes into Edit/Preferences of iTunes and makes no changes.
"An error occurred while updating the default player for audio file types. you do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
I've elevated privileges of the C:\program files\itunes directory for this user to Full Control however problem remains.
Tried to modify the folder to remove 'read-only', as found this suggestion on here, but read-only keeps applying itself.
User has full rights to the location of the media as specified under Advanced Tab. If I tick 'Set as default media player' and remove tick and then click OK I do not get the error. From what I've read it's affected older versions of iTunes also.
Doe anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.I had a similar issue. Turned out that - somehow - one of the directories or files in my iTunes music folder had gotten set to read only. Fixing it was easy.
Go to Edit/Preferences.
Choose the Advanced tab
in the General subtab select the contents of the box labeled "iTunes Music folder location"
Click Start, choose Run
Paste the location
Press the button to move up one level
Right-click the music folder, choose Properties
If this is your problem, the read-only box will be a solid color or checked. Set it to empty and choose the default "apply to folder and all subfolders and files." This will set everything in there readable, which after I did so I stopped getting the error. -
How do I disable Quicktime for being my default player for .avi files?
When I click on a .avi file, quicktime always tells me it's unable to open it because it needs a plugin. So I use VLC media player b/c it's hassle free. When I open an avi file, I select the "always open with" option when I choose VLC. Unfortunately, I have to do that for every single avi file I put on my computer. How do I get Quicktime to stop being my default player for .avi files only? I still prefer it to be my default player, but just not .avi files.
Thanks for the link. Is this perian prefpane all I need to maximize my quicktime experience? Basically, will I never EVER see a "quicktime can't open this..." message again? Can I delete VLC media player now?
Also, what the heck is the point of the Eject button in the top right corner of the keypad. When I tried ejecting the perian "disc" that I got from opening the .dmg, it didn't work. Is that button only good for ejecting actual discs from the cd/dvd rom? -
After I upgraded iTunes, iTunes doesn't recognize CD in the drive, apparently isn't the default player. It won't let me set iTunes as the default player, I get the error message "An error occurred when updating the default player for audio files types." I tried Whitesides' remedy (changing Read Only status in folder in Windows) but it didn't solve the problem. Any suggestions? Thanks.
JOddly enough. I think I just solved it. It looks like, for some reason, my computer has about 8 different "iTunes music" folders, and I've been saving my music to the wrong one. Neat. Music now imports and plays as it should. Copying things over is going to be so fun tonight!

How to set default ipod for itunes?
I have a computer with 4 ipods registered to it, one dating back 4 years now (orinal style). Since then I had upgraded to the ipod video which after 6 months broke and had to be replaced and am on my second one. In addition to those 3 ipods, my girlfriend now uses my computer and has her ipod registered as well.
I like to use the auto sync technology with the orginal smart playlists and find that ever since I added numerous ipods, I cannot update the smartlists nor have them synced to my ipod.
Is there a way to un register the old ipods that I dont have anymore and set a default ipod? My girlfried doesnt mind manual syncing her ipod each time.
Please help. There's no "default" ipod for itunes. It should recognize each one by its unique serial number.
Only one ipod connected at a time, I hope?
looks like you are using method 2 from this article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
There's really no formal "unregister ipod" command, but restoring to factory settings would be the closest. -
