My Powerbook G4 is running Mac OS X 10.4.11
    Processor: 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4
    Memory: 768 MB DDR SDRAM
    Startup Disk Macintosh HD
    Serial # 4H511OAJRJ5
    Capacity 74.4 GB
    Available: 2.3 GB
My problems began when I had a warning message that read something like, “your startup disk is getting full. Delete some files”
Around the same time my battery was showing signs of being spent (wouldn’t take a full charge) and would shutdown my powerbook in the middle of operation. I replaced the battery within 12 hours, rebooted, and everything seemed normal; I could log in and access all programs, files, photos, music, etc. The error message reappeared to deletes some files. I ran TechTool Deluxes and it suggested repairing my Volume Directory. There were a few suggestions in green and one in red. I accepted the ones in green and made the changes. It reopened TechTool and ran again, this time everything showed up as a “red” (drastic) directory change. I did not accept. I shut down. I rebooted, and that is when my heart sank.
My account log in screen appeared (I have my master account and a “test” account available) and I entered my log in password. After several moments, the message “You are unable to log in to the user account [username] at this time.” I can log in to my “test” account but I have not been able to access any of my files from that account. Also, my Test account appears to be running Panther instead of Tiger; could that be? Anyway, I read some similar problem posts here and was hopeful that DiskWarrior could help restore me. I purchased and ran it successfully (at least DiskWarrior said it was a success) but I still have the same results.
I tried to access both my caches folder and my Desktop folder from my “test” account, but these are the error messages I received:
The folder “Caches” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
The folder “Desktop” could not be opened because you do not have sufficient access privileges.
I was shocked to see my Available space was only 2.5 GB. I don’t know how that can be right.
I’m open to anything to retrieve my files – Any suggestions?

You need to delete some file not try to repair the disk volume. but anyway...

You need to develop a full backup plan. Get an external hd and backup to it.

Would you be using filevault? Which would mean you need more space.

Doubtful. What does apple > about this mac say?

Which desktop folder? these are normal messages.

    Why?

I buy an external disk with both fireware & usb and use carbon copy cloner to duplicate you hd.
run batcmd from an admin account to let you change permissions.
From an administrator account enable root & be careful. This will let you look at any file on the system & delete everything!!!
    Get a new admin id.
"BatChmod is a Cocoa utility for manipulating file and folder privileges in Mac OS X. It allows the manipulation of ownership as well as the privileges associated to the Owner, Group or others."

As an aside, I just noticed that the button to "apply to all enclosed items' is greyed out. I started checking other folders and best I can tell, all folders on my startup volume will not allow me to apply any permission changes to all enclosed items. Think this might have something to do with the alias issue?
I noticed that my "apply to all enclosed items' button is greyed out too. I use BatChmod fps instead.
Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
    Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db
    pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
    ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.
    mv -i .applesetupdone .applesetupdone.old
    reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!

  • Unable to log in to my account

    Hi!
I have transferred my Home folder to a new, larger disk, then erased the original disk. (The system is on a different (SSD) disk, cloned from an earlier residence by using SuperDuper. Has worked flawless otherwise.)
When copying (using Sync) I dragged the icons for the whole volume in the Source and Target positions of the Sync window, not just the folder.
To erase the disk, I had to start from the system CD to unmount the OLD data disk, which I thought was not in use at all.
There were 3 partitions on that disk, one containing my Home folder.
Now when I try to restart, I get the message "You are unable to log in to user account <my account name> at this time … because an error occured."
I have earlier experienced the same in an attempt to install Windows via BootCamp, see here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2803773?threadID=2803773&tstart=10
But this time, I have not (yet) removed any drives.
I can access everything on the Nehalem desktop machine via the MacBook Pro to which it is networked via the Internet router and from which I am writing this.
Hoping for your help - Hening.

It looks indeed like I should have known this on beforehand. I was not aware of that I should have used Migration Assistant. I thought it was OK to use SuperDuper to clone a startup volume.
Now that I have messed up, the history/scenario is this:
My system 10.6.7 and apps were on a HD, the Home folder on another HD.
Then I bought a 40 GB SSD, cloned the startup volume on to it using Super Duper. Seemed to work fine.
Later, I copied my Home folder to a larger HD using Sync.
And erased the HD that had contained the old Home.
That's when the trouble started, and I started this thread. Since I got no reply for some days, I started a new one
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3043638
asking how to repair permissions. Later, I remembered that I CAN log into my Me account from the MacBook! So I understood that it was not the Me account that was corrupted in itself, but the connection to the new system drive.
In the meantime, using root, I have created a new user account Me2 on the SSD so I can log in to my Mac. But I can not get access to the Apple-created folders in the old Home folder.
The scenario I want to end up with for the future is this:
As you advise, I will keep system, apps and Home together on the SSD - but only an "EMPTY" Home, with ALL data stored on an HD.
Could you please guide me what to do?
One particular problem is Mail. Mails are data that swell and may not have place on the SSD. And generally, I want to keep ALL data out of ALL these intricate procedures for ALL future...! And all in ONE place.
Is there a mail app that I can install in the apps folder, but which will accept that the mail boxes are installed on the data drive, and accessible all independent of all this permissions stuff, just like any other file? Thunderbird? I will try.
But first I need to get access to the mails which are already stored in my Me1 account...And right now I discover that from the new account, I can not access my data on the external data backup disk either!! So I absolutely need to get access to my Me1 account.
    Sigh!

  • Unable to log in to iCloud

    Strange issue...
Recently I am unable to log in to iCloud from my computer at work. In addition, my calendar and contacts no longer sync with my iCloud. Instead, I am getting an error message stating that 'iCloud encountered and error while trying to connect to the server'.
I checked with IT and there is no blocking of the Apple servers going on.

    You might try the following.
    1. Sign out of your account
(If you are unable to do this because System Preferences has frozen, Force Quit System Preferences and try again)
    2. When prompted, opt to delete, contacts, calendars etc from your Mac.
(You are only deleting this data from your Mac, not from iCloud, the data will be reinstated when you log back in. If you need to check that the data is in iCloud before deleting it go to iCloud.com and check each section for data)
    3. Having logged out, check that the iCloud accounts along with their data have disappeared from the Mail, Address Book and iCal Applications.
(If necessary, delete the iCloud accounts from each of these application separately from each Applications Preferences)
    4. At this point it may be worth trying to log into iCloud from the System Preferences iCloud settings again, if this works, all well and good, if it doesn't continue to step 5.
    5. Open your User Library folder in the Finder. (When in the Finder, go to the Go menu, hold down the option key (alt) and choose Library when it appears in the Go menu)
    6. Navigate to Library > Application Support > iCloud and drag the iCloud folder to your desktop. (This action only copies the folder and will provide you with a back up)
    7. Select the iCloud folder again in Library > Application Support and drag it to the trash, enter your administrators password when prompted.
    8. Restart your computer.
    9. You should now be able to enter your ID and Password in system Preferences > iCloud and log into your account. Check the services you wish to use and once you are satisfied it's working as it should, trash the iCloud folder you copied to your desktop earlier.

  • unable to log in at this time because an error has occured

Colleague came in over weekend to use a specific PowerMac and large screen rather than her usual MacBook Pro.
She was unable to login as 'herself' as she repeatedly got the message that she was <<unable to log in at this time because an error has occured>>.
No 'headshaking' as if she had given the wrong password, but she couldn't log in or accesss our sharepoints.
She tried another desktop Mac (a  macmini) and got same result...
She could (and today still can)  happily log in to the server via her laptop...
    What gives?

We just had a similar issue here.
On the MacBook Pro, we needed a new user to log in. Existing MBP users were fine, new users no chance, although administrator accounts were OK. OSX 10.7.4, same issue with 10.7.5.
Clues were found elsewhere on this site (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4140320?start=0&tstart=0), but what we did to fix it was this:-
Ensure the Mac will create a local folder for new user accounts (top tick-box)
In AD, turn off the Z: drive mapping to the home folder (or whatever drive you use) for that particular user
On the Mac, log in and let it create the local home folder
In AD, turn the drive mapping back on and respecify the home folder path
The account should now continue to work as it's already created the local home folder.
Admin accounts worked because we don't map the home folder for those. Originally we were mapping using a logon script, which is why we didn't have an issue when setting up the other users initially. What probably doesn't help is that we use DFS, and the Macs don't like talking to DFS (we have to map to the \\servername\share instead of \\domainname\dfs-share for those).
Hope this helps. Many thanks to user "Think Touch" for providing the clues.

  • With Firefox 8.0.1 using Mageia 1, I am unable to log into Verizon mail or My Account. I can log in withFirefox 8.0 with PCLinux OS 2011.9 KDE.

I am using a Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop computer. I can log-into Verizon from Windows Vista Home Premium or any Linux version using Firefox 8.0, I am unable to log-in with Firefox 8.0.1 with Mageia Linux 1.
    Cheers. Ray.

@corel: Many thanks for your response.
I did all the steps suggested by you, viz. clearing the cache and removing all the cookies of all the Google products. Unfortunately, when I tried to log into my G-mail account, the original problem I had posted, '''just returned'''! ! So, I have not been able to successfully log on to G-mail from Mozilla Firefox 8, the current version I am using.
In the mean while, I found that logging in to G-mail from the Google Chrome browser works fine. But I am not happy with the Chrome, as it lacks many of the elegant features of Firefox.
Further, from the HELP forum of G-mail,
I found that they have updated G-mail to "G-Mail2" and now to "Better G-Mail2". But I was unable to get any information on how to create an account under either of those newer versions from Firefox.
So, I have to sadly report that your suggested solution did not work, nor was I able to log in to any of the newer versions.
Please HELP! Please HELP! Please HELP!
    With warm regards.

  • Can anyone tell me why I am unable to log in to the HP Support Forums?

I am unable to log-in to HP Passport or Forums. I use the same id/password that I've used for years and everytime I try to log-in to the forums or HP Passport, it takes me right back to the sign-in page. I've even tried registering with different user id/password and it always tells me it is already in use. I emailed HP Global Support and no help there.

    Hello CalvinP.
Well, I used the link you provided, changed my password (again) and it took me to the HP Forums. My forum ID was at the top right. When I clicked on the subject Other Desktop etc., it took me to the HP Passport sign-in page. There, it showed my email address and p/w (all stars). I clicked on Sign-In and it recycled back to the sign-in. So, I tried again using my email address and the p/w I just changed to. Error message saying the user id or password incorrect. I then tried using my forums ID and new p/w and same thing. I then closed that out, reopened Chrome, searched for HP Support Forums, clicked on a link and what opened was the Forum home page showing I was logged-in (my forum user ID (khone) was in the upper right. When I clicked on a subject area, it again took me to the HP Passport sign-in page and I could not sign-in. Again, I closed Chrome, reopened, did the search and clicked on a link and it took me to the forum home page with me already logged-in. The only way I am able to respond to you, or anyone else, is to click on my user id and it takes me to the posts I have made. That is the only way that I can respond to anyone. I am still unable to access any of the subject areas or make a post. If I try, I end-up back at the HP Passport sign-in page.
As I said before, I have absolutely no idea what has happened or what HP has in their files for my user id/password. I have reset my id/password several times by both email links and by answering the security questions. But evertime I try to log-in @ HP Passport, I always get the same error message - user id or password incorrect. If I try to log-in straight in the Forums, it always takes me to the HP Passport sign-in page.
In Febuary 2013, I emailed HP Global Support, spoke to a Pia and Andrea on another subject and also mentioned this. They said they would pass it on to the webmaster because their might be a problem with the website. Never heard a thing until I received an email from a Kavitha saying they were closing the issued because they hadn't heard from me. Naturally they didn't because I never heard from them.
I'm totally frrustrated with not being able to access the forums to see if anyone can provide solutions to problems I occasionally have with my new computer. I'm at the point of just giving-up as I'm exhausted from the number of times I've tried and that this has been going on for almost two (2) months.
Thanks again CalvinP. If you have any other ideas, please let me know.

  • Data Access Service is unable to log audit events to the security event log

    Hi,
    Scenario: SCOM 2012 R2 UR4. (Windows 2012 R2)
Today SCOM have generated 4 alerts Data Access Service is unable to log audit events to the security event log.
The service account for "System Center Data Access Service" service is "Local System".
The users at "Generate security audits" are: LOCAL SERVICE and NETWORK SERVICE.
    The question is:
how to resolve this alert? (Where look for to obtain more information to resolve this problem)
    Thanks in advance!

Local system account is differet to local service account. Fo detail description of these accounts, pls. refer

can anyone help me with Magicjack? after I purchased US number I am unable to log in on my Iphone, I keep getting an error "YOUR DEVICE IS NOT ON THIS ACCOUNT" I contacted MJ support but they are very much useless and dont know how to fix it!

There's a whole lot to read in your post, and frankly I have not read it all.
Having said that, this troubleshooting guide should help:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
In particular, pay attention to the mobile device support sections near the bottom, assuming you have already done the items above it.

  • Unable to "Log and Capture" with Canopus

    Hello all -
    Recently bought a Canopus ADVC700.
Connected it to my Apple G4, running FCP HD 4.5 and to my Sony DSR20 VTR.
Audio and video can be caputred using the "Capture Now" method, but I'm unable to log shots and then capture.
Tried several work-araounds, using "Easy Setup" and "Capture Settings", but I have zero control on the Sony deck.
    What am I doing wrong?
I've contacted Canopus and awaiting a reply...also checked their website to see if I needed a driver (which there appairently isn't one).
    Thanks!

I kinda think you've configured this all wrong and Canopus is now part of Thomson/Grass Valley so I'm not at all surprised that the support on this product is a little, umm, lacking.
I would try this to start and then start on other variations if it don't work.
    DSR20 - Firewire - ADVC700
    DSR20 - RS422 Dsub cable - ADVC700
    ADVC700 - Firewire - Apple G4
FCP's capture/control configs should be set to firewire, logically.
DSR20 control menu should be set to rs422
ADVC700 should be set to rs422 control
Thinking through what you have going on this sounds logical to me.
I don't understand why you're using S-video between the DSR20 and the ADVC700. You're undergoing a conversion of DV25 to analog if you use S-Video as well as the bnc composite spigot and then converting back to DV25 in the 700.
Do you need a frame sync or just RS422 control?
Is there any reason you can't use a [Keyspan 28X|http://www.keyspan.com/products/usa28xg> with an [Addenda|http://www.addenda-elect.com/product.htm] Mac to RS422 cable? I used this set up for a long time on my G4 and it worked great with my JVC vtr.

  • Unable to log in to the user account (name) at this time

I get this error message when I try to log-in in my main admin account. And this is not a lost password issue I know im typing the write password because when I type a wrong one the box shakes when I type the right one it gives me that message.
I tried alot of stuff to gain access to it but I cannot, the only thing that I can do is go in as root user and extract the files that I had in there, but I have no physcial access to the login it self, I started making a different account name for it but I dont want to lose all my prefrenses although I think the only thing that is making it this way is File Vault (its swtiched on for the locked out account)
    Any thoughts?

I'm also getting the dreaded "You are unable to log in to the user account __ at this time" but believe this happened when I inadvertently tuned off an external hard drive without ejecting it first. At first, I thought it was a File Vault problem, but my user.sparseimage file is still there and accessible once I changed the permissions to those of another user account.
What I have come to believe, based on other postings I have read on this topic, at least in my case, is that I must have corrupted the logged in user on the netinfo file. The solutions I've seen so far for fixing the netinfo file seem pretty complicated, though I do have a backup of that file.
I have yet to decide whether the netinfo problem is easily fixable or if I would better employ my time moving my iTunes and iPhoto files off that sparse image and into another user account. I'm open to suggestions.
