Unable to lucreate on vdisk
hi,
i have a setup with
2.2 VM
08/11 solaris 10 both guest and primary ldom
guest ldom are built with zfs. no ODS.
the guest consists of 1 SAN disk controlled by zpool and all filesystems are zfs
i want to test live upgrade on a guest ldom. so i added a new vdisk which is basically a san disk of an idenitcal size as the disk for the guest's root disk. it is presented in the same way as well. both are SMI disks and they are full disks added the primary service and presented as full disk to the guest.
when i run
# lucreate -c root-pool -n patched_BE -p patch-rpool

INFORMATION: No BEs are configured on this system.
The device </dev/dsk/c0d0s2> is not a root device for any boot environment; cannot get BE ID.
PBE configuration successful: PBE name <root-pool> PBE Boot Device </dev/dsk/c0d0s2>.
ERROR: ZFS pool <patch-rpool> does not support boot environments
ERROR: The disk used for ZFS pool is EFI labeled.
WARNING: The boot environment definition file </etc/lutab> was removed because the PBE was not successfully defined and created.
there is no boot environment yet. so i expected it cannot get BE ID. but why does it think the disk is EFI labled?
after running lucreate, it seems that the disk was labeled in EFI format.
does anyone have any solution to this? or seen this before?
Have you tried everything from the Will Not Turn On section of this Apple support document?

Lucreate zfs BE dataset does not exist
Hi guys,
I'm trying to upgrade a Solaris 10 full zfs with liveupgrade but unfortunatly after one day search and after re-reading all sunDocs I block on and I cannot create a new BE.
The final objective is to have the server on release 10 10/09 for VDI3.1.1
If someone get an idea would be so great.
tks

I am using 6.5 sp6 The server seams to run fine until I try to image a pc
or multiple pcs through zen, the CPU goes to 100 percent and then after
about about an hour I get a message
unable to exec server (insufficient memory?)
Cannot load the file C:command.com
insert correct disk and strike and key.
The only way to bring it back to life is a control, alt, del and reboot the
server. I did not have this issue prior to installing sp6, I was on sp5
and recently upgraded it to sp6. Thanks Scott
Here is the abbend log I get.

Lucreate error on Solaris 10 10/09 root ZFS
Hi guys,
I got some errors while trying out live upgrade on Solaris 10 10/09 root ZFS x86 environment.
I do intent to do this in the SPARC environment but not comfortable with the experience so far.
First of all, I have a separate zpool dataset - "rpool/opt".
Not sure if this is causing the error below.
Anyone can help to advice? TIA

I found that by simply renaming rpool/opt to rpool/ROOT/s10x_u6wos_07b/opt seemed to fix this problem:

Hi - I'm trying to get my head around Live Upgrades now that I've switched to ZFS on Solaris 10 for our test servers. The problem I have is we have a number of non-global zones and when I ran the lucreate command I get a number of warnings:

So ALL my non-global zones live under /export/zones/<zonename> - what do all the WARNINGS mean?
I then applied the Oracle CPU, activated the ABE and shutdown the server. When it came back up non of the zones would start and this seems to be because now all the zonepaths and references to the zones are labelled with CPU_2012-07 on the end. Now I can edit the zone xml files to fix this but am sure this is not the recommended method and something I would prefer not to do.
So basically I think I have not set my ZFS resource pools up correctly to take into account my non-global zones and where I have created them.
My zfs list output looks like this now, unfortunately I don't have the output prior to me starting this work:

Thanks - Julian.OK, so been tinkering with this. I'm not sure this is my exact problem but a few people have reported issues with the following package:
121430-xx
In that it gives the exact same WARNINGS when trying to create an ABE via lucreate and you have non-global zones. So one of the suggestions was to go back to an earlier version of this patch and then someone said it was fixed in version 71 of the patch. So I installed the very latest version 121430-81 and now it fails with a different error. Fortunately this time I have a screen shot of the before and after:

SUN VM Shared File Systems make Errors with lucreate
Hi,
I have a problem with an attached A5200 with mirrored disks (Solaris 9, Volume Manager). Whereas the "critical" partitions should be copied to a second system disk, the mirrored partitions should be shared.
Here is a script with lucreate.

Thanks a lot,
Michael -
Hi,
I have completed installation of Oracle Clusterware 10.2.0.1 on Linux X86, RHEL 4 (using OCFS2). This is a two node system.
After running a few tests we had some disk corruption on the shared storage system and hence we had to reformat the shared filesystem (only the shared FS not the local filesystems on the nodes). I copied the backup OCR and VDISK files into their original directories after the formating, and moved the mirror backups into their original directory. But I am unable to start the cluster services, I have tried the following
$./crsctl start crs
Attempting to start CRS stack
The CRS stack will be started shortly
$
Didn't work, no services started up.
I then tried the following command
$ ./init.crs start
Startup will be queued to init within 90 seconds.
But again I don't see the crs daemons up and running.
I don't see anything in the logs (crsd, css, evmd etc) the last lines there were before we shutdown everything and then formated the shared storage.
If anyone has come across a similar issue then please advice on possible errors I could look for or how to work around this to get the crs services started so that I can install the database software. Any help/advice will be appreciated
Thanks.Hi,
since you mention the reformatting of the shared disks:
Check /var/log/messages for things like
"Cluster Ready Services waiting on dependencies. Diagnostics in /tmp/crsctl.xxxx",
best use cat /var/log/message | grep crsctl.
After that the mentioned /tmp/crsctl.xxxx file.
You might find Oracle Error PROC-0026 there:
"Error while accessing the physical storage".
What is meant is the OCR.
Check if user/group of the raw devices is still oracle:oinstall, it might have changed to root:disk by reformatting.
I myself had this case unexpectedly now some times even WITHOUT any reformatting, I suspect that touching the raw devices with Linux LVM might change ownership.

Lucreate 'ERROR: mount: /export: invalid argument' - Live Upgrade u8 to u9
I'm trying to update several servers running solaris cluster 3.2 from u8 to u9 using live upgrade, first server (quorum server) worked just fine, next one (cluster member) goes down like this:
# lucreate -n solaris-10-u9

Edited by: 801033 on Oct 8, 2010 5:33 AMThe answer, at least in my case:
When I originally installed this cluster, I apparently misread the part of the documentation which lead me to disable lofs. The documentation states that you need to disable lofs if BOTH of two conditions are met,
1) You are running HA for NFS to server a locally available filesystem AND
2) you are running automountd.
In my case, I have no need for automountd, so I disabled the autofs service, reenabled lofs and am proceeding with the upgrade. -
Lucreate fails with - .../var directory not empty
Hi,
I have Solaris 10u8 with patch cluster from February2010 and patch 121430-44 installed on a V445
/ and /var are on seperate datasets
When i attempt to run lucreate i get an error as it attempts to mount /.alt.tmp.b-vI.mnt/var due to the directory /.alt.tmp.b-vI.mnt/var/tmp already existing
lucreate appears to create a /var/tmp directory in the root dataset of the the new BE during creation and is then unable to mount the var dataset.
It returns a "directory not empty" error
Attempted this multiple times same issue.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Edited by: Brian79 on Mar 14, 2010 5:36 AMI think I figured it out...
In the / dataset there is a /var/tmp that is missing the sticky bit (mode 0755) There was an anomaly during the u7 to u8 luupgrade that caused this, I think. It was a couple weeks ago and it didn't take me too long to overcome it by 'chmod 1777 /var/tmp'. But that was with the /var dataset mounted.
Unfortunately, zfs just mounts over the bad /var/tmp in the / dataset causing lumount to barf during the lucreate process because that there's already something in /var/tmp when it tries to mount the var dataset clone.
I dropped to single-user mode, force-unmounted /var, and deleted /var/tmp (which still had the 0755 permissions). lucreate works just fine now...
Good luck,

AjayHi Nandu,
As your description, you come across an error(vsjitdebugger.exe cannot be found). Please confirm if the error occurs during the installation of SQL Server 2012. If so, please help post SQL Server setup logs. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates
in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Base on my research, this error could be caused by that the previous uninstallation is improper and vsjitdebugger.exe file could be mistakenly deleted.
To troubleshoot the issue, you could start your computer into Safe Mode and fix your problem with one of the following methods. For more information, please refer to the article:
http://www.fixerrorkit.com/fix-error/fix-vsjitdebugger.exe-error.html.
1. You could execute the sfc /scannow command following steps below.
a. Press "Windows+R", type in cmd and then right click "Run as administrator"
b. Type in sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow) into the dialog and hit Enter key and click ok.
c. Wait until the System File Checker finishes the check.
2. You could use a Windows repair installation, also known as a Startup Repair to repair your Windows system files.
3. You could install the latest Windows updates to fix vsjitdebugger.exe error. Microsoft often releases new service packs and system patches to replace or update some DLL files of Windows system.
4. You could use third-party tool such as Automatic Error Fix Tool to fix your vsjitdebugger.exe error. However, Microsoft cannot make any representations regarding the quality, safety, or suitability of any third-party software or information found there.
In addition, if you are unable to install Visual Studio, I suggest you post your question in Visual Studio Setup and Installation forum at
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=vssetup . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

Unable to capture from my Canon hv30
I just tried to capture some footage from my hv30, the first time I've tried, and it say's on the capture screen that the capture device is off line. I have the camera properly connected and its in the right setting, is there some setting in premiere that's i have wrong? I have another program that came with the camera, and it can't connect to the camera either, saying that its not connected. Not sure what to do at this point, so if anyone has any ideas that would be awesome.
This is the most weird camera I have ever seen, you have a miniDV tape camera appartently without a Firewire I/O connector. I just looked at this Canon specification http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=177&modelid=1620 6#ModelTechSpecsAct
and there is nothing about a Firewire/IEEE-1394/etc. Without a firewire interface Premiere is unable to capture video. apparently there is some software supplied with the camera, maybe it can capture the video via the USB interface to your computer and then (if it is the correct format) you can import it to Premiere. -
Unable to capture DV to FCE, apple support told me a PC is the way forward!
Hi there
I recently bought an apple imac with a view to editing DV footage taken previously.
I had captured some of these tapes on to a PC before buying an imac. These files I was able to edit on FCE and imovie (once I had transferred them from the pc hard drive). HOWEVER although I could control my DV camera through imovie and FCE none of my old DV tapes could be captured to the imac. An error message states that the frame rate is incorrect.
I have apple care protection and have spent ages trying to get support for this only to be told by apple support that FCE and imovie will not capture my old DV tapes! The support person told me that I should go back to a PC if I want to do the job properly!
Unfortunately I have just spent thousands on this very nice looking imac (and FCE) that is apparently unable to do the most basic capturing. Does anybody have any ideas (other than going back to pc) for getting my DV footage captured?
Needles to say I have found all this incredibly frustrating as a new apple user. Are these sorts of issues common to imacs?
cheers
rupertHey Rich,
thanks for getting back to me,
I shot tape previously (in 2000) on a sony mini DV camcorder set to SP. I have since bought a new sony mini DV camcorder (DCR-HC40 NTSC).
With the new camera and a PC I was able to capture my 2000 tapes and edit them. I was also able to edit the earlier footage I had transffered from my PC hard drive to the i-mac on i-movie and FCE.
Unfortunatley everytime I have tried to capture my old tapes directly onto the i-mac I have had the message "preview disabled" from FCE and the following from i-movie:
"The camera is sending half-sized frames, which iMovie can’t accept. Check your camera’s record mode (this is the setting that affects recording quality, which determines the total recording time on a tape). The mode must be set to “SP” or “LP.” If that doesn't help, try removing all the cables and batteries from the camera, wait a minute, replace them, and then reset the date, time, and record mode."
I have spent weeks on the support site and found a thread that recommended re-installing quicktime etc but nothing has worked.
I connect to the i-mac via firewire and am able to control the camera, capture my newly recorded miniDV's (so it is not a problem with the proprietary software application etc) but nothing seems to work for my old tapes.
Apple support told me that apple doesn't do older miniDV's and that a pc would be the only way I could capture my tapes. I couldn't believe it! Unfortuatley I no longer have access to my old pc.
Any ideas? Is there any other way of getting DV onto my i-mac?
And thanks for your interest in my problem here
regards

Unable to capture HD 1080 video from HDCAM deck using Decklink HD
I have an original decklink HD capture card with SDI I/O. I have a rented Sony HDCAM F500 deck for the weekend. I can not get FCP to digitize even a frame. All my QT, FCP, OSX and Decklink software is up to date and compatible with one another acording to Decklink's website.
The capture tool shows no video input. I am conecting via SDI from the HD output of the deck to the SDI input on the card, the capture settings are set to the HD format I need to work in, 23.98 PsF. I get the error mesage when I select the setting I want: Unable to locate the capture device Blackmagic HDTV 1080. Your system config may have changed or your deck/camera may be disconnected or turned off.
The system will work in SD using the downconvert output of the deck, but this does me no good on this job. I hope someone has experience with this problem and can help because I am out of ideas!sorry mate, if I was in the office I would try to help troubleshoot this thing, but here at home its a bit pointless.
other than suggesting you check that you really do have an Declink HD card an not the Declink SD card, or th epossiblity the card may be faulty, the best I can offer is to point you to the Decklink forum at the Cow.
http://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/newviewposts.cgi?forumid=124
have you tried to capture any other HD flavour with this card? how about capturing via the downcoverted SD and using the card to upconvert to HD? (this is not a suggested workflow, just trying to ascertain whether the card is working in HD at all) -
Unable to Capture from My SonyHC3
I am very new to Final Cut Express and hope this is a simple mistake on my part. I am trying to capture some footage into FCE using a firewire but keep getting the colored bars, and the no Communication message. I have a feeling it is the easy setup function that is messing things up. I have tried most of the setups available but keep getting the same messages.
Unable to locate capture device
How do I know which settings i should be using for my Cam? I cannot seem to find anything from reading. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting,,the truoble shoot section did not help so far.Well I was able to capture some video...I had quicktime 7. something but updated it anyway. I guess there was a new update,,I followed the directions trashing the files in the library first . Then I went back and tried again and again switching things around in the camera and the Easy Setup.
I chose DV-NTSC in Easy Setup and in the camera i switched (in The STANDARD SET its a toolbox icon in the camera)
the i.LINK CONV to ON (HDV->DV)
Also
I switched the VCR HDV/DV to HDV
So now I get a capture,,,My camera shows that my output is just DV not HDV or 1080 is that a degraded capture...will I lose the Hight Definition?
Also after 9 min 15 seconds of capture it stops due to shortage of disk space.
I push the capture again and it starts up for another 9 min 15 seconds. I had to babysit it for the whole video.
I look in system settings and i have selected my 500 gb external for capture.
what gives here? is it initially capturing somwhere else or is it not able to keep up or what?
At least now I have somthing on there to practice with and start learning the software. I am sure i will be back with more problems questions and solutions.
Thanks in advance.
