Unable to make new paper sizes

I recently bought and installed v9 std, having been using v7, or 3D previously. After installing I found there are only a limited number of paper sizes available so have gone into printer preferences to add new ones. Clicking on Add/Modify button brings up the dialogue box for a new page name and sizes which I enter as a new page size with an unused name. After I click the add button, I get the message "Not allowed to modify system or printer defined paper size (a2). only user defined paper size can be modified or deleted."
Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?
I'm running Vista Ultimate with full administrator privileges.

Agree, Barbara
I do it as a matter of routine for at least 3 reasons:
1. Some functions of the program don't work on a locked layer, requiring one to rename it or duplicate it in order to overcome this hurdle.
2. Should one want to start over again, one has at hand the original layer. Just delete the newly generated layer(s). Of course, one can arrive at the same point via the undo history palette.
3. One may want to interpose a new, blank layer, for one reason or another, in one's workflow between the background layer and the background copy layer, so here it is all set up to go.
If you think that this is pedagogically unsound, I shall respect that and refrain from inserting this step in subsequent advice.

  • How to create a new paper size preset in photoshop CS6

Hi, Im trying to create a new paper size preset in PS CS6. I was told if I went to my PS folder, I will find a folder named presets. Inside that folder there should be a text document called "New Doc Sizes.txt" but it's not there.
Has anyone any idea where I might find this text file in a presets folder?
I have a C drive, but my folder for CS6 is on my D drive. I use Windows Ultimate 7 x64.

There's a file named "New Doc Sizes.psp" on my Mac. "Save Preset..." in the "File > New..." dialogue stores custom doc specs in that file.
    /Users/<name_deleted>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings/New Doc Sizes.psp
There should be an equivalent in Windows.

  • Unable to Set Custom Paper size setting of 15 (width) x 12 (Height) using J

    Hi,
I am unable to print the report using the custom paper size setting of  15 (width) x 12 (Height)  with printer friendly fonts so that we can print on Line or dot matrix printer.
This problem is not solved from last 3 months and we dont get help anywhere.
We are using Java with Crystal Report XI R2 design for the same.

    Hi,
Yes i can understand that you need to first understand the root of the problem to give me the solution.
I am here to answer to your questions until you understand what is the problem.
Yes if i set the standard page size which are given in API doc , it sets up the page correctly.
Following page size as given in the API doc works fine.

It is rejecting the custom paper size and custom fonts (which in my case are printer friendly fonts).

  • Unable to figure out paper sizes in PSE 9...

Hi, I am trying to print a 4x6 photo... when I click print the pse print window opens and asks to select: printer, paper size & print size.  I don't know what paper sizes they are offering, ex: KG, KG.NMg,  PhotoPaper2L, PhotoPaper2L.NMgn, PhotoPaperRoll, PhotoPaperRollNMgn, etc.... ??  When I select these and try to print my 4x6, my image is cut off the edge.  What are these paper sizes? and what should I select to print a standard 4x6 photo?  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your reply, "no margin" is probably right, but still unsure what the sizes are.  I don't know why'd they be metric.  Other options on the list were the standard: a4, letter, legal, 8x10in (that looks like a photo size), and some other ones I've never seen before: HiVision 102x180 , Env10 (guessing envelope size), A6.Maximum (??), and Halfletter.  These are the selection for the window for PSE9.... once I move to the next window (after selecting print on the pse window)... my printer window comes up and all is well, though there is not a place to select paper size, just paper type (glossy, etc).  Very frustrating to waste so much costly photo paper.

  • When I try to set up a new paper size prior to printing,  PS crashes.

I am using PhotoShop CS5 on a Mac with  OS 10.10.1.
When I set up a custom paper size in print settings, PS crashes
    Any advice please? Les

Of course that should read imap not iMac.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Unable to make new layers. . . Help needed

First of all, I know how to use Photoshop. I know how to lose layers and how to make new ones. Somehow my layers panel is not allowing me to create any new layers and I can't figure out why. The entire layers panel seems to be deactivated and I don't know how to fix it. If anyone can be of assistance, I'd very much appreciate it. I can provide screen shots if needed.

  • Unable to make new Airport Extreme a WDS Main station

I tried adding a new AX (dual band) to an older AX network to extend the cloud. The older AX does not "see" the new AX when I go thru the step to add remote base stations. I tried making the new AX the WDS Main but that option was not available on the new AX. Using Leopard with 5.1.4 of Airport Utility. New AX is firmware 7.4.1. Older AX is 7.3.x (7.4.1 screws this unit up).
Shouldn't the new AX be able to be configured as a WDS main?

    EPILOG:
As far as I can tell, the new "Dual Band" Airport Extremes don't support WDS clouds. The only option in the configuration is to "Extend a network" and I was unable to get that to work with an older AX that was configured as a WDS Main base station. The Dual Band AX always came up yellow saying the network could not be found.
The only solution was to throw away the 802.11g WDS remote devices and turn the main base station into an regular 802.11n base station, allow it to be extended and extend it with the Dual Band AX.
As a breadcrumb to those who find this post, this device will waste alot of your time. Most of the Apple articles that come up when searching for how to do this give settings and screen shots for pre-Leopard versions of Airport Utility and are about setting up a WDS network. You also have to be careful about upgrading the pre Dual Band AX to Firmware 7.4.1 as it turns it into a brick in some cases.
I got it to work with the two different AX running different firmware (7.3.2 and 7.4.1)...YMMV
Its important to set the wireless channel specifically to one of the available ones and not let it default to Automatic.

  • Sybase unable to make new mbo

    Hello there,
I've been trying for a couple of days now to create a new mbo based on the bapi 'API_RE_RS_RESERVATION_CREATE', I always get the same error: 'Error occurred during exectuion, please check the default values of the selected input parameters and refresh again.'  The reason is a java.lang.NullPointerException.
I even tried to fill in every default value I could and deleting them too...
This error always happens whenever one of the internal tables is selected as parameter..
why is it impossible to create this mbo ? And how can I create it without these errors ?
    greetings,
    Amintah

    Hi,
I guess the issue is with the tables parameter you need to fill as default value. I never managed to fill tables parameter as default - I am only able to fill single value fields. Do you need tables param t do this? Are you able to build a wrapper to fill these fields?
If you create a Z - class and in there send the table parameters as usual values, it should work fine.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to make new concert problem

I'm running Mainstage 2 and at the moment I can't bring up the new concert dialogue. I can open my previous projects but when i hit new on the file menu I get nothing. I'm not sure if maybe the window is hidden or what but help'd be appreciated. Thanks.

Is this a fresh install.. has it ever worked? Maybe try having the app create a fresh preference file. With Mainstage not launched, go to User/Library/Preferences and remove the com.apple.mainstage.plist file. You can drop it on the desktop for now. Relaunch Mainstage and see if that fixes it.

  • Resizing Brochure to different paper sizes

I have created a brochure using an Apple template and have my paper size as 8.5 x 11.  However, since each page in the template is 2 actual pages, when I go to print, the brochure is half the size.  When I try and resize the page, the brochure image remains the same size, leaving white space along the edges.  How to I get my brochure images to automatically adjust to the new paper size?

    OK.
Here's the preliminary result for the first (Cover) page in the template.
The part inside the thin black rectangle is the finished size. I used Oversize Tabloid as the sheet size (12x18") and centered the page on that. Your printer may want this size to allow for trimming the pages. If not, use Tabloid (11x17), and ignore the black rectangle shown here (not part of the finished page, and not used in the revised procedure listed below).
I would start by making a duplicate of the file, then work with the copy, not the original. That way, if you make an error (or if I did) you'll have a quick route back to the original.
    Here are the steps:
Open the copy of the document.
    Go File > Page Setup.
Set Format for: to Any Printer
Set Paper Size: to Tabloid Oversize
    Click OK
Open the Inspector. Go to the Document Inspector.
Set all four margins to 0.5 inch. Set Header (position) to 0.75 inch.
In the document, select on object, then press command-A to Select All (of the objects).
Go Arrange > Group to group all objects (except the header box with its text) into one object.
(This should create a separate grouped object on each page. You can scroll down to check.)
With all of the grouped objects selected, go to the Metrics Inspector.
Set Width to 17 in, Height to 11 in, and both position values to 0.5.
Go Arrange > Ungroup to ungroup the grouped objects and make them individually editable.
At this point the basic resizing of the document is completed. You will likely need to do some tweaking. Individual graphics may require re-shaping to remove the 'NFL Lineman' appearance of people in photos stretched this way. That should be fixable by reinserting the original graphics files into the media frames. This will remove the stretch, but more of the original image will ve visible. Text size will not have been changed by this resizing. That requires resetting the font sizes. Text will also flow differently in the larger text boxes.

    Barry

  • Can't change paper size on Officejet x64

I am unable to change the paper size on this printer.  I need to use an 8.5 x 5.5 format to make a greeting card.  Actually, I am not seeing any other options for different sizes.  Using the HP Solution Center I get the message below.  Also, it does not recognize my other printer that I am using.  Thank you in advance for your prompt response and hopeful resolution to this issue.

Please to meet you , I may be able to help you with your printer software for your Officejet 5745. It looks like your Solution Centre is having some troubles, have you tried the Print and Scan Doctor yet? HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. I recommend downloading and running the HP Print and Scan Doctor, if it doesn't fix it automatically let me know what errors or messages you receive. I recommend also Uninstalling the Printer Software. You may also want to Delete files using Disk Cleanup - make sure to put check marks in all of the selection boxes when available. Other places software drivers may hide would be in your Device Manager.  To Open the Device Manager:
    1) Click Start (Or Windows Icon) and enter 'Device Manager' into the Search field.
    2) Click on the Device Manager.
    3) You may want to click on View, at the top of the windows, and then Show hidden devices.
    4) Expand the device types, and check for any driver related to your printer.
    5) To remove a device from device manager, right-click the device name from the list and then click Uninstall. * For more information see Device Manager Information for Windows 8. Then download the newest version of your software here; HP Officejet 5740 e-All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers. If the issue continues, you may want to Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number. You can view all other ways of contacting HP from their list of Support Options.  Please let me know if any of these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!  Thanks,

  • How do I change the default paper size from letter to A4 on an F2480 attached to a Windows 7 system?

I have an F2480 attached to a Windows 7 machine.  I have used the Solution Center to check that I have the latest printer driver installed.  How do I get the software to understand that the paper loaded in the printer is A4 not letter, and always will be?  I found an earlier question about this on this board where DexterM suggested going in through Printing Preferences.  I have done that but it won't let me save A4 as the paper size for all future use.  Also in that conversation HPPooper suggests editing the Registry, but the keyword he references ("DsDriver") does not exist on my system.

    Hi bobellina,
I did some testing and think I may have found a solution:
    1. Open Devices and Printers
    2. Right click the printer and select Printing Preferences
    3. Click on Features tab
    4. Click on Sizes and choose "More"
    5. Choose "Metric" or "English" at the top (depending on the size options you want available)
    6. Select the paper size you want as default, then click OK
    7. Click Apply, then OK on the remaining window
    8. Right click the printer again and select "Set as Default"
This should make whatever paper size you select be "default" in whatever application you are printing from (unless the application has a default override). Paint and Notepad left the printer defaults, but Word 2010 overrode them.
If I have helped in any way, just click the Kudos star on the left. Also, if your issue has been resolved, don't forget to select Accept as Solution

  • Changing to a paper size that is not listed

How do I change to a paper size that is not listed in the drop down menu? Thanks /

What paper size?  There are minimum and maximum paper sizes the printer can handle.  There are additional limits on the sizes that can be printed borderless. To set custom paper sizes in Windows 8.1 do the following:  go to the Devices and Printers folder.  Single click on the HP Photosmart 7520 series.  Near the top of the Devices and Printers folder will be a new item "Print Server Properties".  Click on this , then click Forms, Create a new form, type a Form name, set the proper size and margin size, Save Form, Apply, OK.  Next close any open printer windows, the right click on the photosmart 7520 and select Printing Printing preferences.  The new paper size should now be available.
