Unable to map master page gallery to network drive on XP Service Pack 3

I've tried to map the master page gallery to my computer as a network drive. I've tried using the Tools > Map Network Drive method as well as net use x: \server\folder\. Both methods result in failure. I am on Windows XP SP3. I used a colleague's computer
who has Windows 7. Using my username and the same methods, I was able to map the master page gallery to his computer.
Has anyone heard of an issue in not being able to map a master page gallery to a machine running XP? It's obviously not my permissions.

Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you could’t map the master page gallery to your computer as a network drive.

  • Unable to map master page gallery as network drive for migrated sitecollection

    Hi all,
I am unable to map the masterpage gallery as network drive for design manager for a migrated site.
This is a windows 2008 server r2 OS. Desktop experience in installed.
I am able to map the master page gallery as network drive for two other site collections which is not migrated.
But for the current migrated sitecollection, it throws the familiar error that it is unable to connect.... I already tried unistalling and reinstalling desktop experience.
    Kindly help.

    Hi sanjuv,
According to your description, my understanding is that you can't map master page gallery in network drive for certain migrated site collection.
If you can open the master gallery with explorer, it means the master page gallery really exists. I suggest you check if the path is valid in the network drive. You can find the detailed path information with the articles below:
1.On the site for which you are creating a design, start Design Manager. (For example, on the Settings menu, choose Design Manager.)
2.In the numbered list, select Upload Design Files.
3.The Design Manager: Upload Design Files page contains the location of the Master Page Gallery. The location probably ends in /_catalogs/masterpage/. This is the location to which you will map a network drive.
4.Make a note of the location of the Master Page Gallery, or copy it to the Clipboard.
Here is a detailed article for your reference:
Map a network drive to the SharePoint 2013 Master Page Gallery
If the issue still exists , I suggest you can check the link below to troubleshooting the connection error with Network drive. You can try to install the kb of IE10 below to test if it works.

  • Master Page Gallery contents renders in old Sharepoint 2007 style after upgrade

I have a site collection that is still rendering the Master Page Gallery items in the Sharepoint 2007 style instead of the Sharepoint 2013 style, and I can't pinpoint where this is coming from.  I'm sure it's from a resource that was customized some
time before our Sharepoint 2010 upgrade, preventing the view from upgrading properly at this point.  I'm looking for advice on where to look to get to the root of this issue.
Possibly other libraries are affected, but it is most apparent in the Master Page Gallery.
Here's what the items should look like in Sharepoint 2013.  In html, the item name column dropdown menus are populated with div elements, and it has a blue background dropdown arrow when hovering over it.
Here's what this site collection renders.  In html, the item name column dropdown menus are populated using table elements, and it has a solid border with a different dropdown arrow when hovering over it.
Functionality wise, this is preventing master pages and page layouts from being checked in and checked out and approved from this view.  I'm only able to do these changes using the sitemanager page for this site collection right now.
    Other information:
    - There are other site collections and web applications in this same farm that are not affected, so I don't believe it is a modification made in the hive files
    - I've tried making new views of the master page gallery with no success
    - I've compared the contents of the AllItems.aspx form in this collection with the AllItems.aspx in a working collection and could not find any difference.
    - I suspected that the ListViewWebPart is not current, but I can't find where I can check on this and possibly reset it to site definition.  I reviewed all webparts in the _catalogs\wp gallery but can't find a webpart in there that is named ListViewWebPart.
So, the million dollar question is where else should I be checking to get to the bottom of this?  Thanks!

    Hi Brad ,
For your issue, you can view the Upgrade Status page in Site Settings to verify that upgrade has succeeded for a site collection.
To view upgrade status in Site Settings
1.Verify that the user account that performs this procedure is a site collection administrator.
2.On the Site Settings page for the site collection, in the Site Collection Administration section, click Site collection upgrade.
3.On the Site Collection Upgrade page, click Review Site Collection Upgrade Status.
4.The Upgrade Status page for the site collection is displayed.
    For more information, see
Manage site collection upgrades to SharePoint 2013
Also you can  go to _layouts/15/reghost.aspx (Site Settings -> Site Actions -> Reset to site definition) and reset the master page gallery to site definition version.

  • "New Document" button on ribbon not working in the "Master Page Gallery" in Internet Explorer 10 & 11

I'm trying to add a "JavaScript Display Template" to my "Master Page Gallery" but when I click on the "New Document" button and select "JavaScript Display Template" it opens the "Add a master page" dialog
and prompts me to upload a file.  I've ran into this problem with "Compatibility View" set to both "On" or "Off".  I'm able to upload files but I can't get the new forms to show up.
This happens on the root site collection site.  For subsites, the "New Document" button is completely grayed out.
FYI - I am a site collection admin and in the "Owners" group for each site.
    How can I fix this?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that "New Document" button on ribbon falied to work in the "Master Page Gallery".
In the root site, please make sure you enter all the necessary information when you upload file.
In the other word, you need to make sure the save the “JavaScript Display Template" successfully.
In the subsites, when you click the “Master Page” under Master Page Gallery in the sub site site setting page, the "New Document" button is completely grayed out.
If you want to add the template, you need to active the “SharePoint Server Publishing” feature in the Site sitting->Manage site features.
However, the “Master Page” under Master Page Gallery will become to “Master pages and page layouts”.
If you click the Master pages and page layouts”, you will go to the
Master Page Gallery of the root site, and then you can add Document.
    Thank you for your understanding.
    Thanks,

  • Unable to convert files to pdf in network drives

    Hi Team
Iam using adobe acrobat pro 11 in windows7 64 bit OS.When ever iam trying to convert files from text or word to .pdf iam getting the errro message in devices and printers.
one thing i observed that when i choose local drive eg:c:drive iam there is no problem.but when i given network drives path then its getting error.i have full permissions on network drive and also i can able to save any files, able create files, folders in network drives, So there is no permission issues.
Could you please provide the solution to fix it.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Siva

I don't know the solution, but at one point folks were discussing the issue of the TMP folder used for the PDF creation. It may be that there is something causing a problem with the mix of the TMP folder and the network folder. Be aware, I have no clue what I am talking about, but am repeating things I remember reading at one point. That might help you in your trouble shooting. There are others here that understand networks and will hopefully drop by to help.

  • NSS6000: unable to map as a network drive in Win7pro

I have setup my NSS6000 through the web browser interface (setup RAID5, created a volume, created a share (using CIFS protocol), and created a couple usernames). Now I am trying to map my share as a network drive and it is not working.
I select Map a Network Drive in My Computer, select a drive letter, enter its ip address as "\\192.168.0.xxx" in the folder line, and check the boxes for "Reconnect at logon" and "Connect using different credentials"
After entering all this info, a logon screen appears asking me for a username and password. I enter the username and password for a username I created through the web interface. After a few seconds, the logon window reappears. I try my username/password again, this continues 3-4 times and then finally it says "Windows cannot access \\192.168.0.xxx"
I have gotten error codes of 0x80070035 (The network path was not found). Also, when I select "Diagnose" after getting the "Windows cannot access" popup box, it sometimes tells me "The device or resource (192.168.0.xxx) is not set up to accept connections on  port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)"."
I can see the device in the Network window of My Computer (listed under "Other Devices" as NAS00xxxxxxxx). I can also continue to access it via the ip address through the web interface.
    Some things I have tried:
entering the MAC address instead of the IP address (\\NAS00xxxxxxxx) as the folder
entering \\192.168.0.xxx\nas as the folder (nas is the name of the share I created)
entering my username as both "NAS00xxxxxxxx\username" and just as "username"
entering my adminstator login credentials for the web browser interface as the username/password, as opposed to a username I created within the web interface
Not checking the "Connect using different credentials" box
I can't believe this is so difficult. Can anyone help me solve this? Thanks

Thanks for the tips - here's what I did and the results
Created a new username on through the web interface; changed the hostname to "nasbox"; rebooted the NSS6000; rebooted the pc while the NSS was booting; logged on to the pc with a generic username (not admin or administrator)
tried again to map it as a network drive - specified \\192.168.0.xxx\nas as the folder name (again, "nas" is the name of the share I created on the device), selected the checkbox for "Connect using different credentials". Clicked finish, box for username/password pops up. I enter the new username/password I created - same result. No joy.

  • Using Expression Web for editing master pages

I have SP Foundation 2013 and I am trying to edit a master page in Expression web since SP Designer no longer has design view. Reading the documentation it says that any HTML tools such as dreamweaver, Expression Web etc can be used.
I have mapped a drive to the Master Page Gallery and made a copy of the master page I am trying to edit.
When I open it up in Expression Web I get the following error:
    Error creating Control - SPHtmlTag
    Unknown Server Tag Sharepoint:SPHtmlTag
Can anyone help? I'm by far no web developer or Sharepoint Developer and I just want to make some simple changes to the master page such as adding a footer with some links/images etc so it displays on all pages within the site, which is just a basic intranet
    site for a small company.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

you use HTML tools such as dreamweaver to desgin the .html file associated with the .master file:

  • Deployed Custom Master Page Not Visible in Designer

My team has created a custom master page and has packaged and deployed it as a feature. The custom master page file correctly appears in the master pages gallery via the Web UI, but it's not showing up in the Master Pages folder when the site is opened
in Designer. What are we missing?

    Hi,
when the master page was deployed by a sandbox solution please make sure that the master page is checked in and approved. SharePoint doesn't check in and approve files that was deployed by a sandbox solution. Also make sure that the correct content type
is assigned. because otherwise you won't see it too.
To set the content type of the master page on deployment correct you just need to simply add the following inside the <file>
    <Property Name="ContentType" Value="$Resources:cmscore,contenttype_masterpage_name;" />
If the master page is a farm  you should also add the content type but it will be checked in automatically. I hope you are on root level of your site collection because the master page will not deployed to the sub sites.
In SharePoint Designer you also have two different approaches to find the master page.
    Approach 1:
Use the Master Page Entry on the navigation pane left. The Master Page will only show up if content type ins correctly set.
    Approach 2:
Go to "All Files" -> _catalogs -> masterpage
By using approach two you will see the same amount of files that you can review in SharePoint. You will also find the article pages in there.
    Hope this helps
    Kind regards

  • Custom Master page set as a default on feature activation in Moss

I've a site in moss. I have created feature in my solution and on feature activation it will set the custom master page
CustomMaster.master as a default master page and on feature deactivation it will set as a default master page
    default.master.
The problem I'm facing is that if I'm activation the feature at first time then it will set the CustomMaster.master as a default master page but when I'm deactivate the feature it will remove the
CustomMaster.master page and module. but when I'm again activate feature at that time it will not create mo1dule and CustomMaster.master in "_catalogs/masterpage/". So, no error was given on feature activation but

    Hello Sameer,
When you are calling "RemoveCustomMasterPage" function?
Also make below change in web.config file your web application to know the problem:
    1. Open up your sites web.config, and make the standard custom errors edit. You want it to be < customerrors mode="Off"/>
    2. Then, search for the CallStack="false" and change it to CallStack="true", you should find this in the "<safemode>" node.
    3. Find:   <compilation debug="false" />, Replace with: <compilation debug="true" />

  • Powershell, design manager, uploading html file not creating associated master page file

I am uploading a xyz.html file through powershell for 2 site collections, when .html file is uploaded and published it automatically creates xyz.master file. It is working fine for not publishing sites collection only, for publishing site collection .html file
is uploaded successfully but it is not creating associated .master file. If I close powershell console and run again it works successfully.
another interesting thing I noticed that if I specify "spadmin" account which I used to install sharepoint as  site collection primary administrator, all works well, currently I am using "spsiteCollection" account for primary site collection
administrator and I am having above mentioned issue.
powershell script is also running with spadmin account.
I have ensured .html is checked in and publish properly, If I manually unpublish and publish .html file it creates .mater file. What could be the issue?

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about upload html file to master page gallery.
I have used the PowerShell contains in the codeplex to upload the files to master page gallery, it works without any issue.
    https://uploadmasterpages.codeplex.com/
You can check your PowerShell with this article, or use this bat file to upload directly to check whether it works.
    Thanks,

  • Cannot download master page using managed client object model SharePoint 2010

    string siteUrl = "http://server:port/sites/demo";
    string fileServerRelativeUrl = @"/sites/demo/_catalogs/masterpage/v4.master";
    using (ClientContext context = new ClientContext(siteUrl)){ FileInformation fileInfo = Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.File.OpenBinaryDirect(context, fileServerRelativeUrl);}
    File.OpenBinaryDirect() throws "The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found" error. while Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.File f1 = web.GetFileByServerRelativeUrl(fileUrl);
                    context.Load(f1);
context.ExecuteQuery();this gives the file object.File.OpenBinaryDirect() works if I pass "/sites/demo/_catalogs/masterpage/TabViewPageLayout.aspx" as fileServerRelativeUrl.Both the files are present in Master Page Gallery.File.OpenBinaryDirect() doesn't work if I pass any of ".master" file in the master page galleryPlease let me know whether downloading the master pages is supported using managed Client object model.

    Hi,
If don't change the default config, We are unble to download master page.
It's better to create your own (perhaps based on the default.master) and use that master page.
also, make sure there's no a permission issue on the website.

  • Working with master pages and page layout, what I have been doing wrong

I have worked on customizing the page layout and the master pages for a couple of site collections.
But now I read two restrictions which I was not following 100%:-
I should avoid directly modifying any default templates, and instead of that I should take a copy and modify the copy. So that any future updates will not override my modifications.
Also I should avoid directly modifying the .aspx files, and instead of that I should edit the html file which will automatically reflect on the .aspx files.
So currently I have these cases inside my SharePoint sites:-
Inside my enterprise wiki site collection, I have being modifying the Enterprisewiki.aspx page layout, for example I added new columns such as Page title and I remove the page rating, also the chnaged the color and format for the page fields.
Inside my team site I took a copy of the seatle.master master page (I name it seatle_copy.master)and I apply my modification to the seatle_copy.master directly and not inside the .html file. Even I do not have a html version for the modified seatle_copy.master?
So can anyone advice how I can fix these two issues. For the first issue how I can make sure that my modifications to the EnterPriseWiki.aspx page layout will not get override during any future update.
also how I can generate an html version for my current seatle_copy.master file so that I can modify the seatle_copy.html instead of the seatle_copy.master in the future?
    Please can anyone advice?

    Hi johnjohn123,
    1. I would definitely make a copy of the EnterpriseWiki.aspx page layout and make changes to that. You can then set your pages to use your custom page layout. Typically, I provision these via Visual Studio and a module for uploading them to the SharePoint
    master page gallery.
    2. For the master page, the html version is new to 2013 and is meant to simplify branding, however, it's not required. You can still work within master pages and provision those via features if you'd like. The key is to create your own master page and never
    modify the default.
If you need code samples for any of the above, let me know and I can supply it.

  • Master Page - Theme only applies to 'Owners' not Visitors

    Hi,
I'd initially raised this as an issue in O365 forums but was pointed to here to help try and resolve the issue. Issue below:
We have designed a new theme for our default site https://[tenant information was removed by moderator].sharepoint.com (not the public site). In Master Pages https://[tenant information was removed by moderator].sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx we
have set our default theme to GCC/gcc (the name of our theme). We have then applied this to all subsites by clicking: Reset all subsites to inherit this site master page setting.
This works for me and the person who designed the theme and we can see the new theme. However anyone on that site with visitor / read permission cannot see the new theme and they just get presented a default theme with some css styles that don't appear.
I did notice that if i browse to https://[tenant information was removed by moderator].sharepoint.com/_catalogs/masterpage/Forms/Html%20Master%20Pages.aspx The master page gallery page on the parent site that the theme isn't listed in there
and there are two themes there in draft. How can we upload the theme in to master page gallery and publish the theme out?
Would this be the reason that our visitors to our site cannot see our new theme? Is there a way to get around the theme issue?

    Hi Anandakrishnan,
The master page is currently published as a major version however the theme still only shows up for owners / members but not for visitors. Is this a permissions issue somewhere?
We created the theme by doing the following:
creating a new master page with a CSS file, published this master page and assigned it as the Site Master Page and the System Master Page.
If you are an owner or member of the site you can see the theme but if you are a visitor you cannot. Any other ideas?
We are using SharePoint Online and the plan we have is SharePoint Online Plan 1 as part of Office 365 business premium plan.
