Unable to mount dvd's (no medium found)
I have a dual layer DVD-ROM in my laptop (dvd/cd-rom combo).
When I try to mount a DVD:
mount -t udf /dev/hdc dvd
I get the following error:
mount: No Medium Found
I'm sure /dev/hdc is the dvd-rom device, at least that's what dmesg says:
hdc: QSI DVD+/-RW SDW-082, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdc: ATAPI 24X DVD-ROM DVD-R CD-R/RW drive, 2048kB Cache, UDMA(33)
I've looked into several threads about the same issue, but none of the solutions worked. Funny thing, I can mount normal cds...
I did a search, and apparenty your drive can be problematic, so you're not the only one . I googled around, and they recommend you upgrade the firmware to LX43, which is here: http://mega.ist.utl.pt/~cfao/QSI-SDW-082-LX43.zip
Give that a whirl and see if it helps.

Create a Multiple ISO mounted DVD
I've seen this done before, where there are several iso's on a DVD and when the DVD loads it will mount every ISO. I really think this is a useful way of condensing several cds or just organizing everything together on one DVD. I was wondering how can I accomplish this?
I already have one DVD that has this, how can I copy this DVD? I tried in toast and it wouldn't copy the DVD. It gave me the error, "unable to mount DVD because it is in use by another application." The only application that was running was toast. Thank you.Found answer some where else

Mac Pro unable to mount etc. blank cd / dvd but reads cd's/DVD's with data
First ... sorry my bad English!
My Mac Pro is unable to mount blank cd's/dvd's but can read+mount cd's/dvd's with data??
It happends with my internal drive and with my Lacie external drive so it is not "hardware" problem.
I think this started after uppdates (security etc.)
I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.4.
But still I'm able to burn with my Toast software cd's dvd's although cds are not mounted???or seen in finder???
-SsoundDStart the program you are using to burn the discs, and when you are about to burn them, it will tell you to insert a blank CD/DVD to be burned.
Mac OS X cannot mount Blank CD/DVD, since it does not have any Mac File Structures on it. -
Unable to mount SD cards - SCSI disks
I have a generic, cheap, all in one usb card reader and am unable to mount sd cards on my system. I tried a few days back with a friends similar sort of card reader with the same outcome. I've got 3 sd cards to hand, one brand new, all of which seem to work fine on my Canon DSLR camera.

[Solved-sortof] Mounting dvd drive /dev/hdc
My dvd drive is not mounting for some reason, I thought maybe I just needed to restart and that it would mount again but no luck, this is what I get:
mount /dev/hdc /test
mount: no medium found
I put the same DvD in my cdrom/dvd drive and it mounts so i know it's not the dvd. I thought well, this is a dell shipped dvd drive so maybe it died, I'll give it a test. I slap the dvd in the drive, since it's the master cd drive it shoudl load a cd at bootup and it does, loads Fedora dvd image easily. I did upgrade something this morning, mostly gnome stuff, so I am thinking it's one of the packages assuming I don't have /dev/hdc on my computer. Is there a way to see what's going on?
Quick Edit
I did a quick edit to see what exactly was going on, I am far from a linux pro, but I do have some common sense. I took gdm / hal off my daemons list and rebooted. Now from command linue I logged into root and tried to mount the drive /dev/hdc and it worked perfectly flawless, no errors. So I am guessing this has to do with a hal problems that was caused during an update. Any further help would be much appreciated though because I don't know where to go from here.
Edit again
I solved my little "issue" apparently it was just the dvd I was trying, for some odd reason my dvd drive was refusing to auto-load the dvd movie. Yes I burned a dvd movie, I do own the original copy, I just burn a backup incase of dmg / loss. The original dvd loads fine with no mounting issues. The dvd I burned works in a dvd player, and on my secondary dvd/rw drive, I don't like watching movies on the dvd/rw drive though because of the fact that it's read capabilities is much slower. I am still puzzled on why my dvd drive doesn't like to mount / read it correctly.mzneverdies wrote:
not sure, but in order to mount cds/dvds, I think you must use the -o loop flag
sudo mount -t iso9660 -o loop /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom
The loop flag is for mounting ISOs. -
Audio cd : no medium found (kinda solved)
hi recently installed new arch 86_64 system, openbox, / and /home are on ext4 journaling partitions
thunar with thunar-volman
i can read/play/open: dvd movies, data dvds, data cds, wav files on computer, usb data, play mp3s with MPD.
i cannot open/play a audio cd with xine, smlayer, abcde, vlc
The following were performed with an audio cd in:

Last edited by psyodin (2010-05-02 18:41:29)well this morning i tried a different cd then cd's. now i was trying 2 random, apparently non damaged cd's last night and they did not work. the one i try this morning works!
however the 2 that didnt work on my arch last night will play on a different computer of ubuntu flavor.
2 things here: i cant believe i randomly grabbed 2 audio cd's last night that didnt work...out of 100's that apparently do. i cant believe one linux OS works and the other does not with those 2. so thanks for help, still kinda confused though. -

Error on install, CDROM not booting Kernel, unable to mount CDRM, what now?
Please help. I am new to this, so as many options as possible would be a help.
So far here are the steps I've taken to install Solaris 8 (Intel):
1. Checked HCL - I have two CD ROM's I've tried, both are on the list. (Mitsumi FX140S and Sony DVD DDU220E)
2. Set BIOS to boot CDROM - Boot failure..., I have set and changed jumpers back and forth from Master to Slave. I have moved CDROM drive from primary Slave to secondary Master and secondary Slave.
3. I have downloaded and used the Device Config Assistant boot floppy. It boots and checks devices. It also recognizes the CDROMs I have (both CDROMs are not have installed at the same time).
4. I have selected whichever CDROM I have installed as the default boot device (*) using F4_Boot Tasks. I have also adjusted timeouts from 0,1,2 and 3 seconds and have had autoboot ON/OFF.
5. I have entered F2 to continue and I receive this error:
Unable to mount a Solaris root file system from the device:
CD : (*) Target 1, MITSUMI CD-ROM FX140S !B e12 on Bus Mastering IDE controller on Board PCI bus 0, at Dev 4, Func 1
Error message from mount:
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@4,1/ide@0/sd@1,0:a: can't open - no hsfs VTOC
Press Enter to Continue.
I have inserted all 3 CD I have created with the same results from each. The CDs have the .iso extention and were created using Easy CD Creator.
Please, Please, Please, ANY suggestions!!
LLFirst off you don't need to set your CDROM as the default boot device to install Solaris, that's why we have the Solaris DCA boot diskette. And also only the Solaris Installation CD and Software 1 of 2 are bootable CDs, the software 2 of 2 is NOT.
Once you finish downloading the images from Sun's website you need to not only add the .iso extension to the ending of each image file but use the option "Burn using CD image" under the File menu in Easy CD creator.
If you try and view the burned CD under Windows you will only see a small number of the actual files that are on the CD. And NO you will not see the .vtoc file and will not be able make one yourself.
My suggestion would be to try and burn a new CD with the above instructions and boot with the Solaris DCA and continue pressing F2 until you get to the point where it asks you select where you want to boot the kernel from. At that point put with ther Installation CD or Software 1 of 2 in your drive and attempt to boot from it.
Keep us updated on your progress.

[Solved] unable to mount harddisk partition or flash drive
After recent updates to gnome 3.4.2,i am unable to mount harddisk partition or flash drive .I have 2 year old arch installation with gnome.
When i click on partitions in nautilus,it says "Unable to mount program files \n Not authorized to perform operation"
Problem is not only while mounting partitions.
Wherever we need authorization .Like changing date and time ,changing user accounts using gnome UI etc.The unlock button is greyed out permanently.
even i am not able to shutdown using gnome menus. it just log me out only ,do not restart or shutdown.Though i can shutdown using shutdown command on commandline.
i run gnome using daemon method. not through xinitrc .
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25031?p … ekit#close
I found a similar discussion in this bug. But since, i do not use xinitrc, it is unlikely they will help me.
Can someone be kind enough to help me on this?
Thanks in advance.

I read the Message 591 (Agu 2003) and the problem is quite the same. A brief description: I have aLaptop ASUS with HDD1 60GB and a USB storage HDD (in next HDD2) 100GB. I installed Solaris 10 x86 on HDD2 (partition c2t0d0s0). At the end of installation I removed the DVD and using BIOS features I switched the boot to HDD2. All ok; I received the SUN Blue Screen and I choose the active Solaris option; but at the beginning of the boot I received the following error message
Screen Output:
Unable to mount a Solaris root file system from the device

Cannot mount dvd or usb flash drive in kde 4.6 ?
Hi,
I am unable to mount a dvd in kde 4.6 I keep getting the following error:
udisk error permission denied: not authorised
I have added myself to storage, disk and all the normal groups. I had the same problem with a flash drive but after adding the following as 11-media-by-label-auto-mount.rules in /etc/udev/rules.d the flash drive now mounts but will not safely unmount. I have set removable media to automount in system settings.
Any ideas what the problem is with udisks/udev in kde 4.6?

I gradually homed in on policykit: I was testing out xrdp for remote session and now I can see the logic of not letting a remote user access removable media etc. It was one of the reasons for the policykit idea in the first place, to limit access for remote sessions-it sure works.
I changed one of the policykit rules to (inactive=no to yes) to see if that would work but still no go which is a bit strange. -
unable to insert dvd in drive
some 2 weeks ago, someone in this forum was making desperate efforts to insert the optical support, could not do it, at last opened the rascal and found an x-dollar coin in it. Check whether the same there. If not a coin, perhaps another disk. what happens if you press the Eject disk key on your keyboard, I assume there is one on that generation.

You're welcome. I once did exactly the same mistake as you and searched for hours, that's why I'm well aware of that now
Try "grip", I used it some time ago and it did a good job ripping my small collection of CDs.
