Unable to move messages to folders in gmail

We have recently moved from PC to iMac.
Gmail used to work fine- but now we cannot move messages into folders- an error message always pops up.
We have tried rebuilding the mailboxes,as suggested in previous posts, but this has no effect.
What can we do?

try rebuilding the entire mail index. quit mail and move the file homedirectory/Library/Mail/Envelope Index to Desktop. Start Mail. It will say that it needs to import messages (that can take about a minute), let it. This will rebuild Envelope Index and might solve your problems.

  • Am Unable to Move Messages to Folders and other memory problems

I have been using the Mail program with great sucess for nearly a year and suddenly, when I attempt to drag a message I've read into any of my folders I get an error message: "The message could not be moved to the mail box-Correspondence." It happens for all messages and all folders.
I recently upgraded to 10.4.3 and also have been doing regular backups with Backup and another program which enables one to create Custom Backup Plans.
I have also recently been getting the message that my Start-Up Disk is full.
Are my Mail problems related to the Backup changes? I have been doing the Backups for a couple of weeks.

Quit Mail first and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Move the Envelope Index file to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import all mailboxes/messages located within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail.
Select OK and allow the import process to complete.
This should resolve the problem. After confirming all mailboxes were successfully re-imported, you can delete the old Envelope Index file from the Desktop.

  • Unable to move message, the message could not be moved to the mail box trash

I have an iPhone 4 with the error message 'unable to move message, the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash' with 4 emails, I managed to remove 2 of the messages by marking them as read however with the other 2 i tried this and it just crashed the Mail app any help would be appreciated.

Did you have Hotmail set-up with Android prior?  I did, and if you did too, you have the same problem, and this is how to solve it.
From your desktop computer, the Hotmail (or Outlook) website uses the folder "Deleted" for your deleted messages as default.  On your iPhone, the deleted folder's name by default is "Trash".
When I had my Hotmail with Android, it created a folder Trash for deleted messages, and it's creation was amongst all my folders.  So when you go back and look at Hotmail from your desktop, you will see a folder Trash, in addition to the default Deleted.  My Trash folder had all the emails I deleted from my Android.
That said, with the manual folder Trash that was created, when trying to set-up Hotmail now on iPhone, because I already had a folder Trash, it conflicted with the default "Trash" folder it wanted to created, so it didn't create it, being the reason why you can't delete emails, because it doesn't have the defaulted "Trash" folder to go to.
The solution is to delete the folder "Trash" from your desktop, uninstall Hotmail from your iPhone, and re-install, and it worked, the defaulted "Trash" was then created, alongside the "Sent" and "Junk".

  • NOW-Yahoo Mail won't move messages to folders. Help, please?

    Original iPhone with 2.0 software . . .
When I try to move a message (from the inbox, for example) into one of my yahoo Mail folders, I get this message:_"Unable to Move Message."_
Is this happening to you? Is there a solution??
    Thank you for your help.
    Allan

Have you tried deleting the Yahoo account and readding it? Was it working earlier(with the update)? I know Yahoo has been very up and down with various things so possibly there might be a server related problem if it just started.
You could also possibly try to reset the network settings and then try to move the messages.

  • TS3899 My email on my iPhone won't allow me to trash old messages -- I get "unable to move message" "message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"  I have restored to factory settings, asked AT&T about it (no help).

my iphone won't allow me to trash old email messages -- I get the little window that says "Unable to Move Message -- The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." AT&T can't help me -- no one else has this problem, even though we're all on the same server from my company. I have restored to factory settings, but it didn't help. My email account settings are correct, the same as on my computers, and I can trash old messages on them.
    What do I do now?

I have had a similar problem recently and followed advice here. Specifically, I used the brute force approach. As suggested by this site, I strongly urge you to backup your mailbox before trying this fix - just to be on the safe side.

  • IPhone 4 will not delete 'trash' ... "Unable to Move Message ... The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"

I cannot empty my 'trash' ... it comes up with ... "Unable to Move Message ... The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash"
I went into Settings > Mail > 'my account' > advanced > deleted mailbox > Trash (On My iPhone) ... it appears to delete a few items only ... I may try to individually delete 30 items and only 4 go ?  help please ...

I have the same problem and there is no advanced option. Was this removed in the upgrade to ios 5? I have been chasing a solution to this and the fact I have various duplicate emails appearing in my work account for days now! It seems like I may have to delete my account and re-install. This appears to be a common problem, where is Apple's fix for it?

  • HT1668 I get the "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash". whenever i try deleting from my ipad 2. I am unable to delete from Trash...HELP

I get the "Unable to Move Message. The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash". whenever i try deleting from my ipad 2. I am unable to delete from Trash...HELP!
Additional info...I am trying to delete these emails from a Webmail address. the Trash currently has 11 messages and they arent being deleted.

Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app via the taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Another option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If you still can't delete them then go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars,  select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails.

  • Unable To Move Message - Pictures saved from email save in low resolution.

Just installed a new update on my new Iphone 3G and two things are happening to me. First, I use AOL mail service, and every time i try deleting an email I get an error message that reads " Unable To Move Message" " the message could not be moved to the mailbox trash". And the other error I've been getting is every time I get a picture emailed to me, even from my wife's iphone, it stopped saving the pictures in high resolution. Can someone help me out with this issues. The deleting emails and all picture used to save in high resolution before I installed the last update on my phone using Itunes. PS the pictures I take with the phone saved and review in high resolution, it's just every time I save a picture from an email.

I wouldn't know about AOL errors but I'm not sure if you can fix the pic prob however sometimes with when i do the same thing it looks bad in Photos app but if you upload them to iPhoto etc. they are fine. I don't know why this is; it must be a simple bug with how the iPhone previews photos.

  • "Unable to Move Message" error in trying to delete emails

I have an Outlook email account pushed to my iPhone 3GS. Some messages that I've received and then deleted via Outlook on my laptop remain on the iPhone and when I try to manually delete them on the iPhone, I get the "Unable to Move Message: The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash" error.
Elsewhere, I've seen people advise to "got to settings > mail > click on e-mail account > advanced > deleted mailbox > then touch the “Trash” box." Unfortunately for me, there is no "advanced" button/tab/etc once I click on my email account.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem, short of completely deleting the email account and then re-installing it? A friend does this (delete/reinstall) for a fix, but says he keeps experiencing the problem after the reinstall.
    Thanks for any help!

Unless the email account is an Exchange account being accessed via ActiveSync with the iPhone, a MobileMe account, or a Yahoo account that was created using the Yahoo account preset with the iPhone's Mail application, the account is not being accessed via Push.
It sounds like this account is a POP account. None of the mailboxes with a POP account are kept synchronized with the server with the email client used to access the account as with an IMAP account.
I'm not aware of any other way to fix this problem besides deleting and re-installing the account.

  • How do I delete an email if I receive the message 'unable to move message'?

I have an email stuck in my inbox that I cannot delete nor archive. I get the unable to move message note.

    Jo Space,
Is the error message, "The recipient was rejected by the server as invalid or missing" or something similar?
If so your outgoing mail server may require a username and password.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • 'Unable to move message' iOS7 mail app

Everytime i try to delete email(s) on the standard apple mail app on my iPhone 4s the process wont complete saying 'Unable to move message'. i have tried deleting and re adding the account, rebooting my phone syncing with iTunes and nothing seems to stop the message appearing. I know the error doesn't lie with the account as i can send emails from the outlook website and complete the processes on there. I don't know what else to do now...

    Hi Peter,
since its now January 2010, I sure hope you have resolved this issue! I had the same problem after I had to restore my iphone G3. Anyway, played around a bit and was able to fix by changing the "deleted mailbox" behavior...to use the trash on the server vs on "my iphone"
    here it is:
    settings/mail,contacts/accounts (choose yours)/advanced/deleted mailbox/
then click the trash bin on the server.
this should also work for your sent mail behavior.
    hope this helps!

  • I am unable to move message it cannot be moved to the mailbox trash, why will it not delete my messgages

I am unable to move message it cannot be moved to the mailbox trash, why will it not delete my messages and how can I delete my messages

    Hi Friend,
Do you set all the email information correctly?
Can you send/receive emails? If you are often receiving a message on the screen like "cannot contact the server...", check in Settings >> Mail, Contacts, Calendars >> "your name account", if all the fields are filled properly.
You must also turn off Restrictions in: Settings >> General >> Restrictions, because have an option " Allow Alterations - Accounts" that it maybe prevent alterations in your email account.
    Hope it will be helpful

  • Unable to Move Message (Sent Mail / Exchange)

I have 4 messages in my SENT mail folder on my iPhone 3GS (v3.1.2) that I simply can't get rid of. When I try and delete them (either one at a time or as a group), I get the message: "Unable to Move Message(s): The message could not be moved to the mailbox Trash." I've tried turning the mail account on and off, hard resetting the iPhone etc. with no success.
I've seen a number of forum threads about this problem but with no solutions. Just checking that by some stroke of good luck, somebody has figured out how to resolve this issue.
Other messages (those before and since the 4 mentioned here) have been no problem. I can delete them without a problem.
Please note that the 4 messages referred to above NO LONGER appear in my Exchange SENT mail folder. As far as Exchange is concerned, they were deleted many months ago.
If anybody has a suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.
    Happy Holidays and thank you!
    Peter
