Unable to move/play a song bought frm iTunes 7.1 to my iPod

Updated iTunes to 7.1 while my iPod was connected. iPod (Nano) updated to 1.1.2.
Bought a song from iTunes...so far so good. The song is in my library...BUT...wont play !
When I move it to my iPod I get the message:
.....was not copied, because it cannot be played on
this iPod.
How can I fix this.

Grey text when you look at the content and lock symbol at the bottom of the screen simply shows that your iPod is set to automatically update. If you want to access your iPod directly, play it through your iTunes, connect it to a second computer etc. you just need to change the update method to manual in the iPod preferences. One thing to be aware of with manually updating is that the iPod also has to be manually ejected before the "Do Not Disconnect" message will go away. Safely disconnect iPod

Connect your phone to itunes as you have been doing.
In the sidebar, select you phone and then on the main part of the iTunes window, select Music.
Check the Sync Music box and then you can either sync all music, or select the tracks/albums/artists/genres as you wish.
Once selected, at the bottom right on the maon iTunes window, select Sync.
Music will now be copied to you phone.

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.

This is not true. You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

Where are music files stored when playing a song stored in iTunes Match? Instead of clicking the cloud icon and downloading the song, I simply double click the song and it starts playing. Later, I can quite iTunes, come back and not have to wait for the song to buffer. When I go to about on my computer I am told there is 11 gigabytes of music on my computer. Where are those files stored, do they clear themeselves over time, etc...

On a computer, any songs stored in iCloud will stream over the air when played, though you can download them at any time by clicking the iCloud download button.
Do they mean a different computer than the one with the stored music files? Would be nice if they specified what they mean

You don't have any choice but to restore your phone. If the phone is still working, be sure to back up your contacts first. How do you move songs from the 'iTunes library to 'Jenni's iPod Selection'?

I have 2 folders with songs in them: iTunes Library and Jenni's iPod Selection. Whenever I download music, they are automatically saved in the 'iTunes Library' folder. But when I hook up my iPod to download them into the iPod, the songs are downloaded from the 'Jenni's iPod Selection' folder. Most of the songs are in the iTunes Library folder... Can someone help me?

Song that are imported from CD or downloaded into iTunes are always going to be in iTunes music folder. Can't change this.

Why not add it all to the iTunes music folder and create a playlist called "Jenni's iPod Selection".

Not playing songs bought on itunes

i just bought a new ipod nano today and went home and put music from a few of my cds onto itunes and then was able to put them onto my ipod and play them normally. then i decided that i wanted more songs, so i went to the music store and bought 5 songs and everything seemed to be working fine. i dragged them over to the "ipod" folder in itunes, the same things i had done with the songs from my cd. they now show up on my ipod and i can play them off of itunes, but when i try to play them on my ipod, it goes to the "playing now" screen for about a second, doesn't play at all, and then goes back to the menu immediately.
i've tried restarting my ipod, turning it off and on again, disconnecting it from my computer, and leaving it connected and nothing helps.
what am i doing wrong?? has anyone else had this happen to them? what can i do to get my songs to play for me? thanks so much for any advice you have!

1: cannot play songs I bought on itunes, when trying it simply goes one "step" back returning to list of bought music
2: when peoble are trying to call me, it always appears busy, even if im not on the phone

When I checked my purchase history in my profile the songs I downloaded in 2006 do not show. When the box opens for me to authorize the songs my aol ID is pre-selected. When I use my aol password it says to create an apple ID. I want to contact the itunes store to restore my purchases to my profile. This may solve my problem. I don't think that I should have to buy them again.

My Iphone won't sync my CD audio files, after having them on my Iphone for years I updated the other day and they all dissapeared, all that's left is songs bought from Itunes.

I've had an Iphone 4 and I have been listening to hundreds of songs no problem for the past year and a half I've owned it. The other day I decided to sync my Iphone to my laptop to get two songs from a CD. After doing this process and approaching it like I usually would (without causing any problems) I checked my Iphone to see if the two songs had downloaded after the sync. I discovered that my Iphone had lost every audio file that was not bought from the Itunes store leaving me with a sliver of songs to listen to. I immediatly checked my laptop (a Windows device) to see if my music was still there, thankfully it's all on my laptop and the songs play without a problem. So I attempted to sync the songs to my iphone several times, but the CD songs would simply not sync (When syncing your Iphone it consists of 5 steps, the progress bar skips steps 3-4, those are the steps when your music syncs). I'm not an idiot, I checked the small details (checking all albums and songs I wanted and checking the 'entire music library' option) as well I checked the big details (making sure my phone and Itunes were up to date, changing the USB to Iphone wire with another just like it). After a couple of hours of tinkering with different ways to sync I was stumped so I decided to restore my Iphone to factory settings. After doing that and setting up my Iphone newly I still could not download those CD files from Itunes to my Iphone. I called apple support and they recommended that I uninstall Itunes and re-install it. Again no success, all my music is still on my laptop working fine, but I can't seem to sync my CD songs from itunes to my Iphone. If anybody has any info please help. -A college student who needs something to listen to everyday on the hour long bus

Amazing steps you've done so far! The great news is this is very unlikely an issue with your iPhone.
I've run into a similar issue lately as well. I narrowed it down to one song that was causing 30 songs not to sync. I removed the song from the sync list (unchecked it) and all 29 songs were able to sync.
You may be running into a similar issue. This may be a problem with this version of iTunes, an issue with one song or a group of songs; hard to know for sure. It's important to narrow down and isolate the cause. Most imporantly get that music back on there!
The way to narrow down the casue add just a few songs at a time (even 1, just to get that first sync finished). Manually syncing is what you'll need here.
Plug in your iPhone, on the Summary screen (shows a picture of your iPhone, the iOS version, Restore iPhone....; etc). Under the Options area at the bottom choose to Manually Manage Videos and Music then choose Apply in the lower right. The music that's on your iPhone now should be removed from your iPhone now. You're now able to sync music manually.
The link below explains how to drag the songs from the iTunes library on the computer on to your iPhone which will start the sync. Add just one song just to see if you can get 1 of those hundreds of songs on there. If you can, awesome! Keep adding until you find the song or group of songs that are causing this issue.

IBook repaired, songs bought through iTunes will not transfer back to iPod

i found the way to get my songs from my iPod to my computer, but now all of the songs i bought through iTunes will not go back to my iPod. error message is "some of the songs, including "so-and-so" (actually it's Alice Cooper's Feed my Frankenstein :)HA!) were not moved to the iPod because you are not authorized to play them on this computer." the problem is, this is the same computer, it's just been wiped by Apple and i reinstalled everything. i see in one of these forums that you can apparently double click on the song to get it to transfer back, but i have about 3000 songs, so it's hard to tell what i bought from iTunes from what i had already. can anyone help me do this in one foul swoop? THANKS!
