Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

Dear All,
I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?

Summary
Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
Solution
- Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
- Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
- Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
- Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
- Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
- Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
- Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
- Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

I checked responses to similar threads, but ours is somewhat different.
We use System 9.2.0.2 version
We accidentally deleted an essbase app that was a planning app. Went through the following steps:
1. Copied Essbase app back from another server ( we had a 2 days old copy)
2. Verified that we can open app in Planning Desktop.
3. Restarted all JVMs and Essbase in correct order (all JVMs but planning, started essbase, started planning)
4. All security and metadata parts of Planning work, we can login, open/edit forms and dimensions, etc. Anything requiring connecting to Essbase app does not: Cannot validate a formula in Planning (the same formula validates in Essbase outline), cannot open a form that uses substitution variable in column definition, etc.
Essbase app is fine by itself, we can run retrieves against it.
We opened a ticket with support, but so far no results. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

I have had to do a similar process in the past.... Yep, it's key that you "refresh" planning.

HP Froms can't open with Error" Can't connect to Hyperion Essbase"

Hi ALL,
I have just installed HP11.1.2 before. and create a application with demo data. the process progress successfully while it is occured error opening the forms.
Error Message
can't connect to Hyperion Essbase.
while Essbase server it's running now. coz i can't get any more infor about this error.
Products: EPM11.2

What happens when you try and refresh the database, Administration > Application > Refresh Database > Select Database and Refresh
Does it still error out? If so are you sure you can login into essbase using say EAS of Maxl
If it does let you refresh, does it still error when you go back to the form?

Reverse engineer error with Hyperion Essbase and Planning

We are getting the following error in ODI Operator (3rd step) when trying to reverse-engineer Hyperion Essbase and Planning models. com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Cannot invoke a rollback operation when the AutoCommit mode is set to "true".
Our ODI repository resides in SQL Server.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Dmitriy,
You should upgrade to the latest patch of ODI available on metalink.oracle.com 10.1.3.4.4.
There was an issue in 10.1.3.4 ODI with the intial reverse when using SQL server. If you shutdown all the ODI UI's and then restart. And then reverse it should work correctly. But you have to make sure you shut down all ODI tools.

Essbase and planning applications migration from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4

Hi Masters,
I have few Hyperion 11.1.2.1 running servers for Essbase and planning applications (Essbase alone applications and planning applications are running into different servers). Now we are planning to upgrade 11.1.2.1 directly to new 11.1.2.4 servers.
could you guys please suggest me the best way of migrating these applications to 11.1.2.4?

Actually we are moving all our existing servers to some new data center. the plan is like installing 124 in the new server in the new data center and migrate the existing 121 applications to the 124 servers.
So is there a best way to migrate like i said above? or do we need to install 121 in the new server 1st and migrate the applications from existing 121 servers, then apply maintenance release of 124 would be best way?

Configure clients to develop essbase and planning applications

Hi Gurus
I have installed hyperion on one of the windows server. Now I want to configure the client components on local machine to develop essbase and planning applications. How to do that? My goal is to have multiple clients configured so that multiple developers can work simultaneously.

If you have essbase/planning running on a server then you don't really need to install many client components.
Planning is mainly accessible through the web, you could install smartview or the excel addin for use in excel, there are standalone installers available for this.
EAS console can be accessed over the web which will save it having to be installed on client machines, it can be accessed by http://<easmachine>:10080/easconsole/console.html
If you are looking at using financial reporting then you would have to install financial reporting studio, as you only said planning/essbase then you may not be interested.

Hi,
You need to create Java Bean model. The bean is a typical java bean with default constructor, getter and setter. You can have additional methods for query etc. The attributes in the class will be your model node and attributes.
However you need to configure the connection and create JNDI using visual administrator before writing the code.
You can also consider writing Session EJB with oracle and using them in WD.

I cannot connect to Oracle Essbase from SmartView

Hello.
When we open SmartView from Excel 2010 and connect to the Shared Connections with "admin" account, we cannot see "Oracle Essbase" option to select. This occurs in the developer environment. In production environment, we can select "Oracle Essbase" from the dropdown.

The installation was identically apparently.
How can we solve this problem?

Could you check if Provider services is enabled in workspace settings.
Scroll down to last,
And try re-logging into workspace and then open an excel and see if you are able to see Essbase connection.
Make sure the user has admin access or make the changes through admin id.

OBISE One on a Hyperion Essbase and Planning environment

Since it seems a bit quiet over on the OBISE forum, I decided to give the trusted OBIEE forum a go.
I've been working with OBIEE for a number of years. I was asked today if one can use OBISE One 11g on an Essbase or Planning environment and what limitations there are. I've worked with OBIEE on Essbase and Planning, but I've never used OBISE One before.
Has anyone here tried it out on Essbase or Planning? Are there any issues I should know about? Despite the obvious missing components and reduced pricing, any advantages/disadvantages of using OBISE One over OBIEE?

Thank you for your reply..sorry for the incomplete information..This is windows XP OS .
Yes after running the installtool.bat , i am not getting any screen.
What I did was ..after downloading the software, i manually copied all the folders that are available in assemblies folder(essbase , planning , foundation dowloads etc) in to systeminstaller -> assemblies folder and I hit the installtool. As you said now I will unzip all the zip and I will keep it in one home directory and I will try...Please correct me If I am wrong...

Financial report for essbase and planning application

Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.

Shortly thereafter I signed off from the internet. When I attempted to access the internet found I no longer was able to and had a message that Firefox was my current search engine. I tried many changes- unsuccessfully- in control panel. Finally removed Mozilla Firefox and then was able to get on the internet again. I've used Firefox in the past and appreciated it. I would like to have the use again and so wouldn't the college I'm taking on-line courses with. Is there a solution? Thank you.

Connecting to a database from an application

I have been trying to connect to a mysql database on my webspace using a java application on my pc but have had no success.
I keep getting 'invalid authorization specification: access denied for user: myuserid@myipaddress PASSWORD=YES
When i set up my tables on the database, my host provided me with the following code to connect.
Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver").newInstance();
Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:mysql://localhost/<dbasename>?user=<username>&password=<password>");
This didnt work but im guessing this is to be used for servlets on the webspace hence the localhost entry. I've changed the connection to
Connection connection = DriverManager.getConnection( "jdbc:mysql://www.winnieinternet.com/<dbasename>?user=<username>&password=<password>");
the url being my domain name, but this doesnt work either, (same error message).
Is it possible to connect from a remote application or can it only be from a servlet connecting to the localhost?
How can I set up mysql on my machine to test it locally, ive downloaded it but im damned if i can figure out how to use the thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Security filter couldn't refresh to Essbase from Planning but could create

Please kind help on look at this issue.
I updated some dimension access in Planning,and did a security refresh in management database menu.But the access didn't refresh to Essbase filter.
Then created filter in management security filter menu,it refreshed to Essbase successfully.
I would grateful if someone could tell me why the first way unsuccessful.

Creating dynamic database connection (SQL server 2008) from Adf application

Hello,
I am creating an ADF Fusion Application. I use Jdev. 11.1.2.3.0 , WebLogic 10.3 and MS SQL server 2008 database. My question is that how can I create a database connection configuration file, now I connect to the database through hard coding, there should be a way to do this with sql server I think.
my database name is : testDatabase
my database username is : testUser
my database password is : testPassword
Anybody can help me please.

The database schema is the same for all the users, but the location of the database differs, for example: I have set the hostname of the database to localhost because the database is installed on the local pc, but to other clients the database is installed on a managed server so in the hostname I should put the server's ip address or name. So I need an external file where I can set these options.
