  • Safari opening linked .zip files directly from DVD instead of downloading

    Dear all,
Safari opening linked .zip files directly from DVD (via Windows explorer) instead of downloading it tru browser click - it's working just fine in FF, Chrome IE. Is this a known issue? or something can be done by modifying browser setting/pref.
    Expecting more advise on this.
    Configurations: Windows XP
    Safari: 5.1.7
Note: ensured there is no space in the file path, just linked the .zip file using href attribute!
Also tried with .xls, .doc insted of .zip same issue appearing.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
appzapper & such are pretty flaky at removing things usefully, imo.
Use the uninstaller for speed download - http://www.yazsoft.com/products/speed-download/faqs/?how-to-un-install-speed-dow nload-properly
or get a hold of FindAnyFile or easyfind & search for Growl & Speeddownload & yazsoft - but from all I hear, the uninstaller works fine.
Failing that, Safari's settings plist file isn't in caches
    Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist
    is the place
& if you're still stuck, test & maybe download another browser using a New User Account.

  • I am unable to open a Zip file I downloaded.

I play an online golf game at www.wgt.com and to help my playng I downloaded an app from www.wgt.4fan.cz it is WGT Caddy PRO. I am unable to open the file. From reading the answers to other questions concerning opening Zip files, I downloaded Unarchiver and Stuffit Expander. Neither will open the files. There is a file  WGTCaddy.exe, I get a box stating "We can't open application"WGTCaddy.exe" because Microsoft windows apps are not supported on OSX. The WGTCaddy.ini file brings the message 'A failure has occurred. The Stuffit Engine was unable to determine the file format. As for the Microsoft message, I bought my iMac from a 3rd party and it has Office 2008 and other Microsoft programs, I am able to open them all. There is a video on YouTube demonstratin how to download WGTCaddy PRO and install it. The person on the video says it is a ZIP file, I am a computer dunce, so I am taking what he says, that it is a ZIPfile, at face value. That is my sad tale, any suggestions? Might the app not be compatible with OSX? Could it be another type of file? I 'll appreciate any suggestions. Thank you all.

Exe files are Microsoft Windows executables and will not work on Macs. Your Office 2008 is Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac. That's why it works.

  • Error when opening a zipped file transfred to the FTP via ABAP program

    Hi All,
I have extracted the files from al11 and have zipped them and moved the zipped file to FTP site.
But when I open the zipped file in FTP site, it shows the file names, but they dont look like real files(looks as text)...Even when copied the zipped file to the local pc and tried opening it the result was same.
Note : For testing when the same zipped file is written to al11 and dowloaded from there using CG3y it works fine.
Also created a zipped folder manualy and copied it to the FTP site and tried opening it.....It opened but displayed there are no records in it (which is incorrect), But when copied the same file back to local PC it displayed correctly.

  • How do I open a .fdf file downloaded from the internet?

    Hello =-D
I have been on a website many times in the past and opened pdf files. Today however, I have been trying to download an adobe file, and its showing up as a .fdf file. When I click to open (or drag and drop) I keep getting this error message:
This PDF is attempting to launch:
    [insert file location here]
Are you sure you want to continue?
    [Yes]
    [No]
When I click on yes, I get the same repetitive error message and nothing opens. I have tried about 30+ yes's and still nothing.
I am running windows 7 professional with Adobe XI. I know I have opened this file on this computer in the past, I do not know why it will not open now. It has been about 8 months since I have tried though...
    Thanks peeps =-)

    Hi Graffiti,
Thank you for providing the website... After looking over the website you provided, I am still a bit confused. I will break it down for ya =-)
FYI, I am not that computer savvy, but I am sure you will figure that out by the end of this post...
    It states:
The easiest is when the PDF is set up to import the FDF
programmatically (using a JavaScript to import the FDF), or has the
Import FDF action. In both cases, the FDF file name is specified.
Q: How do I get Adobe to set up PDF to import FDF programmatically?
    It states:
Another possibility is if the FDF has the reference to the "base PDF"
included. In this case, opening the FDF will automatically load the
according PDF. If the base PDF is already open, the data gets
    imported immediately.
Q: How do I know if the FDF has a reference to the "base PDF"?
Statement: If it should "Load automatically", I would not have an issue... or am I reading this wrong?... #confused
    It states:
You can also try to open an FDF file which does not have the
reference to the base PDF; it will then ask for the PDF to be loaded
    into.
Q: How do I know if the FDF does not have a reference to the "base PDF"?
statement: Nowhere do I see it asking for the PDF to be loaded...
    Thank you

  • Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from internet that was fine with Leopard. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Just upgraded to Lion, can't open any pdf file downloaded from the internet that was fine with Leopard before. I just got a black screen when I clicked on a pdf icon on a given internet site, and same happened with several sites that I visited. How can I overcome this obstacle ?

Try two things with Safari not running:
    1) Launch Adobe Reader, open its preferences, select the Internet category, and check the values under "Display PDF in browser using".  If it's checked, try unchecking it.
    2) Look in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (at the top-level of your boot volume) for something names AdobePDFViewer.plugin.  If you see such a file, try moving it to a folder named "Disabled Plug-Ins" (if such a folder exists) or onto the Desktop.
    Then see how things work.

  • Acrobat 9 tries to open all .zip files

Acrobat 9 tries to open all zip files I attempt to download - not just zipped PDF's. Under folder management, the zip file type is not associated with Acrobat and is not showing with a PDF icon. The zip file will not open in any unzipping program, it just goes to Acrobat.
When I download any zip file I get a message like this:
Acrobat could not open "somefilename.zip" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged.
This happens with every zip file - how do I disassociate Acrobat from all zip file types?

You need to change the file type association in Windows Explorer of the Folders Control Panel.
The easiest way would to use Windows Explorer to find a file with the ".ZIP" file extension and then use the right mouse click to bring up the context menu. You can then select the "Open With..." option, make sure you check the option to set the 'always associate' (it is the only option) and then find WinZip, PKZip, RAR, or what ever program you use to open the "ZIP" type file.

  • Reader wont open a zip file

When i try to open a zip file with adobe
reader i get a message saying it is unable
to open the file either because it is not a
supported type or the file is corrupt

Most programs, including Adobe Reader, cannot open documents that are compressed into a ZIP file.  You have to use a dedicated program (such as WinZip, or Windows) to extract the compressed file first, then open it with the target program.

  • How do I open a ZIP file?

I received a ZIP file (.xlsx) from a PC user, dragged it to a folder on the desktop, and used my downloaded Unarchiver to open it. It created a new folder within the original folder. The new folder has a file (.xml) and three folders in it. I don't know how to get to a file I can open.

Hi swpolski, and a warm welcome to the forums!
The XLSX file type is primarily associated with 'Excel' by Microsoft Corporation.
This is the new format for Microsoft Office documents.
It is a combination of XML architecture and ZIP compression for size reduction.
Microsoft promises the format will be open (published for anyone to use) and prior versions of Office, using components provided by Microsoft for Office 2000, XP, and 2003 will be available to perform document conversion. Remember that these are promises by Microsoft. We have yet to see the actuals. This format is not the same as the OpenDocument standard, also an XML-based standard being developed as a true open standard (see the OpenDocument Fellowship for more information).

Do you have MS Office or Excel?
    Might look into NeoOffice...
    http://www.neooffice.org/
Then if you do have MS APPs, they have a file you can download so older versions can read the new format.

    Thanks for the response...
The issue is only occurring for the ZIP file extention . we are able to open the document in other files extentions from UWL inbox(portal).
We have checked few more threads in SDN & got some link mentiioing the Tcode :- DC20 and DC30 (related to file extension) . As explained in the Tcode DC20 and DC30 . the file extention entries has to be maintained.
We have made the entry of ZIP file in the DC20 & DC30 but still we are getting the same error. I think we are missing some entries to fill.
It would be great if you can suggest regarding this issue...
Is this is the cause of the issue ?
    Appreciate your help.....
    Cheers:)
