how to open adobe acrobat reader without having to open photoshop? i keep getting this message when opening pdf files. "adobe acrobat was installed as part of a suite. to enable adobe acrobat, please start another component of this suite(such as photoshop)

Are you mixing Adobe Acrobat with the Adobe Reader?
If you have Acrobat on your computer you need to associate PDFs with Reader to open in it.
You also need to get the latest security patches for Reader.

  • Click on download of pdf opens adobe acrobat reader, but then clicking on file save-as does not give a dialog box to change the name or location where it is sav

    Using Firefox 19.02
When I receive an email with an Excel, Word, or PDF file attachment, and I click download, firefox opens up the associated program for all my users, however when you click on file>save-as you are not presented with the dialog box to perform a save.
Excel and Word, no fix at all. Other than different browser or to click download, right click and go to folder, and then copy it out of there to another folder and open it.
Help, what is going on here????

  • Opening Adobe Acrobat/Reader (1:1) in Firefox

    Hello all,
I realise this thread is very similar to others on this forum but having followed the posts and possible solutions I still cannot come to a successful outcome. Hopefully someone can help.
Firstly the error: There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader. If it is running, please exit and try again. (1:1)
This occurs when trying to launch a pdf from within an internet page.
I have version 10.1.2 of Adobe Reader
I am running Firefox version 10.0
I have attempted to uninstall and then reinstall Adobe, unchecked the enable protection mode in Adobe Reader X general settings and even tried tinkering with the registry edits but alas I still receive the above error message each time.
Could someone please provide an initial step-by-step problem solving approach to see where fault lies with my Adobe, bearing in mind the version of Reader and Firefox I have?
    Many, many thanks.

After a third uninstall and re-install I've managed to crack it.
    Thanks anyhow everyone.

I used to be bale to open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat X Pro but now I cannot. I can still see PDF files with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer, but Abode Reader nor Adobe Acrobat X Pro will open. I can still create PDF file (with other programs) but Adobe Reader and Acrobat X Pro will not open. I can't even open the program to deactiviate the serial number. • Unable to use Adobe Acrobat Reader and/or install version 8.1.2.

I was unable to use my adobe reader so I tried to download 8.1.2 and during installation I get the 1417 error message saying unable to remove version 8.1.2. Will not let me finish the installation process?

I have Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 and IE 7, and I cannot install Adobe Reader 8.1.2. I got all these error messages: Windows Installer, The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the Norton Antivirus 2005 disk and click OK - (Didn't work.) Error 1714 The older version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group. Adobe Reader 8.1.2 Setup failed.
When I tried to install msicuu2.exe, Error Message: Windows Script Host Active X component can't create object: 'WScript.Shell' Source Microsoft VB Script Runtime Error.
I edited the registry and remove all versions of Adobe Reader, shut down all software, and still was unable to load Adobe Reader 8.1.2. I contacted my "technical support group" which is HP in India, and they were worthless on this issue. Any help would sure be appreciated as I cannot open any jpg documents.

  • Unable to open Adobe Acrobat

A few days ago, my computer contracted a virus when I was trying to open a PDF at a website I wasn't familiar with (but which McAfee had labeled as 'safe.' McAfee has removed the virus (they say...) and my computer is acting normally. I do not know the name of the virus which McAfee removed.
However, when I tried to open a PDF recently, I could not get Adobe Acrobat to start. I had a version 6.0 from an installation of the Adobe Creative Suite Premium, so I inserted the CD from that Suite, but got a message that I already had a better version of Adobe Acrobat on the computer, so it aborted the install. Then I went to Adobe's site to download the latest version of Reader (9.3, I believe). I did not uninstall the earlier version. The installation went fine as far as I can tell, but I still cannot get Acrobat to open, whether I click a PDF document to start it or right-click Adobe Reader on the desktop and click Open or Run. When I click Run, I get a pop-up that says "An internal error has occurred." When I click 'OK' in that pop-up, I get another pop-up that says "Adobe has encountered a problem and needs to close."
That's as far as I can get and I'm just mystified how to proceed from here. Any and all help gratefully received! TIA

Never mind: I'm an idiot. Someone suggested I reboot and that's all it took! Sorry...

  • Unable to open Adobe Acrobat Pro after CS4 Design Premium install

I recently purchased Adobe CS4 Design Premium. I attempted to install it Sunday, and it completed with an indication of success. I then tried to open all my applications to make sure everything went well, and Acrobat keeps coming up with the following error: "You can't open the application Adobe Acrobat Pro because it may be damaged or incomplete." I tried to remove it with the uninstaller, and it does not see it. I have tried to install it multiple times. I even swapped out the DVD drive to see if it was having problems reading the disc, but nothing has helped. I even tried to delete it entirely. I currently have a web case open, but they state that can take up to 3 days to be answered. I tried to call technical support, but gave up after an hour on hold. I suspect a bad disc, but I really don't want to have to wait a week or more to get the issue resolved through sending endless emails back and forth with a web case. I was hoping someone would have a good answer to my problem that would not require that. I am trying to install it on a fairly plain OS 10.6.2 system. It is a 2009 Mac Pro Quad with 6GB of RAM. As stated, so far none of the other applications are giving me any issue. It has just been Acrobat Pro.
    Thanks.

I ended up finding the probable solution to this problem. I downloaded the trial version of CS4 Design Premium. Seeing that I had already installed CS4, it asked what application I wanted to reinstall. I reinstalled Acrobat. When I opened it the first time, it told me that the licensing server could not be reached. I opened Photoshop, then it again. It has worked fine since then. I have updated it to 9.3.1, so it should be good from here on out.

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Not Installed.

Trying to open link to pdf file from IE8 using Windows 7 64bit and pdf file will not open "adobe acrobat reader not installed".  Yet I can open PDF files outside of IE8.  Adobe Reader X is installed.  Have tried remvoving, reinstalling, running app as admin.  Have tried different version of Adobe Reader and same error.  This same link works fine when opened with Google Chrome.  Any suggestions?

    Thanks for posting the image.
Could you please confirm if you receive this error while opening any PDF? Could you try opening: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_10.1.1.pdf
Do you receive the same issue?

What's the name of the file you are attempting to open?  Is it "ScreenFlow_4.5.2.dmg"?  If it is the correct name then the message is correct and you are attempting to open a file with DMG files extension and not one with a PDF file extension.  Adobe Reader opens PDF files an not any other file type.

  • Can't open files in Adobe Acrobat/Reader

Why can't I open a PDF file in Adobe/Acrobat Reader? What do I do to fix the problem? My software list has Adobe Reader 11.0.02 and 9.3.1.
    I've updated.

Adobe is not an Apple product.  Post in Adobe forums.  It's where the Mac users hang out at.
