Unable to open any file in Elements 11

Please help.  Why would my Elements 11 suddenly refuse to open ANY file.  It worked yesterday.  I uninstalled and reinstalled.  When I select open and select the file, nothing happens.  Nothing.  No errors, no opening of files, nothing.  It doesn't matter what file type I select, even psd files won't open.  I'm having to resort to going back and load Elements 7.   I have to get this work done.  Why is this happening?  What can I do to fix?

Make sure you're online with a good connection, open PS 11, click on the Help menu and select "Updates.." on the bottom.  The rest should be automatic.  It should upgrade you to 7.4.

  • Unable To Open Any Files In Photoshop CC

    Hi All,
I am unable to open any file formats in my trial version of Photoshop CC. This problem seems to occur daily and the only way to resolve it is by restarting my laptop?
File formats I am trying to open include a new PSD file, old PSD files and also jpg files, png files and pdf files.
I am using an HP ProBook laptop but not sure of the model number.
Any help to prevent this from happening would be greatly appreciated and if anyone needs anymore information don't hesitate to ask me?
    Thanks

    Allyson,
    Another welcome here.
Along with the answers to Trevor's questions, how are you attempting to Open those Image files, i.e. Dbl-clicking on them in Windows Explorer, or from the File>Open menu in the Toolbar? If you are using the former, please try the latter. If you want to work from Windows Explorer, Rt-click on the file, and choose Open With, then Photoshop.
Your comment about WMP being the default viewing program, seems to indicate that your File Associations have been changed, with WMP now set as the target program. If this is the case, then you will likely want to go to Folder Options (check for your specific version of Windows), and reset the File Associations for, say PSD, PSB, JPEG, etc., to point to Ps.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

My recipient is getting response that the file I sent is not available or they are unable to open any files that I send.  I did not have this problem in the previous version of Adobe Send.

    Thanks for replying.
If he's reading the email in Outlook, that shouldn't break up the links.
Do you know: is your recipient clicking on the View File button or the URL link?
Lastly, if the file you're sending is not confidential, would you mind sharing it with me so that I can try to reproduce your recipient's issue? I will send you my email address privately.

  • Unable to open ANY file in Photoshop CS2

I was working on pretty big files. Lots of layers. I decided to restart the Computer in order to speed up the process. Once the computer booted up again i double clicked on one of the images and I got the lovely beach ball for quite some time...after well...about 2 minutes or so...NO sign of ANYTHING happenning i decided to close the program using the Command + Tab and then Quitting from there instead of force quit. USUALLY when I do that it takes a while to regroup and close, this time it does it instantly. NO files are opening it just stays there... "thinking" and when I quit it quites instantly. Has anyone else experienced this in the past? How could I solve this problem I am going NUTS! lol

  • Unable to open CR2 file in elements 11

Everytime I try to open a CR2 file i get an error saying
"could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw.  Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional info."
I am shooting with a Canon 6D and Canon 60D so I know the camera models are supported.  I have already updated to the 7.1 version of Camera Raw.
I have been trying to look for solutions for about two weeks now with no success... PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Photoshop CC won't open any files

I just installed PS CC on a clean machine, did nothing else, no moving of files or plugins.  No Adobe products on the PC before this install.  And I am unable to open any files in PS, that include opening a new untitled document.  Nothing ever opens.  What is going ON!?  Fresh installation from Creative Cloud app tool.
System is Windows 8.1, no previous Adobe products on this box.  Not impressed with Creative Cloud if this is how the tools work right out of the gate.  Staff, any suggestions?

PS CS6 had the same problems initially.  I did a restart of the system and now it seems to be working.  So I'd make sure you tell people if they install or reinstall, try a system reboot before suggesting they start killing apps.  I think that's a red herring.
The symptoms and sequence of work-around's I had were the following, which might help in understanding what was going wrong.  Note, only PS seems to be affected as all other CC apps I tried successfully opened and created their file types.
Install several apps via Creative Cloud app (PS, AI, etc)
Launch PS CC (and PS CC64)
Would get an error dialog during launch about a defective existing monitor color profile (choosing 'Ignore' or 'Use' made no difference).
Try to create new file (File\New).
On first attempt you get the New Dialog UI.  Select any choices, doesn't seem to matter, none resulted in a successful New Untitled windows opening.
On second attempt of File\New you get no New Dialog UI.
Try to open any existing image file on my system (any format), via File menu, or drag drop.  Result is nothing, no document window opens.  No errors reported by app.  Just silent failure.
Uninstall PS CC. NOTE Creative Cloud app doesn't provide an uninstall option, must be done by system Control Panel.
Attempt to reinstall PS CC via Creative Cloud app, but could not because it didn't update as 'uninstalled'.  Still listed PS CC as an installed app. ??
Went to Adobe site to CC Download center to initiate new install from there, but that didn't help either because it launches Creative Cloud app which still thought PS CC was already installed.
Chose PS CS6 instead so I could at least install something PS.
Test new install of PS CS6, all the same bug behavior as with PS CC.  Identical to experience with PS CC.
Restart PC.  PS CS6 works fine now.
Not going to try to reinstall PS CC because I just don't trust this stuff now.  Will stay with PS CS6 because its now working.
Hope this helps you guys.  I see a lot of people in the forums complaining about various similar issues with opening files.  Something you really should address.

  • Unable to open HTML files

Does anyone know why Dreamweaver is not letting me view my
HTML & CSS pages on my website?
•Clarification on what I mean by opening files:
All files from website are listed in local view, and remote
view. When I double click on an image it opens up in Photoshop
(which is perfect). When I double click on any HTML or CSS file
while in remote or local view, my screen does a quick blink like
the program attempted to open, and then I see nothing. The file
doesn't open at all, meaning it doesn't pop up on the screen, I
can't edit the code or view design view because there is nothing
    that opens within the program.
    •Troubleshooting:
I removed Dreamweaver from my computer & reinstalled. I
re-downloaded my files from the remote location, and the same
glitch happens again where I am unable to open any files in
    Dreamweaver.
I tried viewing a different website in my internet browser,
and viewing & saving their code to a file on my desktop. I
opened this test file from my desktop and it opened within
Dreamweaver, I could see it in the full form (design & Code
    view).
I had a friend open up files on my website through his
Dreamweaver. He was able to see everything, edit files, everything
    was in working order.
I'd love to edit my CSS, but I'll have to wait until I can
    edit the code through Dreamweaver.
    I appreciate your help!

  • Unable to open CR2 files elements 10

I know this problem has been disscussed on multiple occassions but i am completely baffled.
Recently elements has been unable to open any new CR2 files saying they are the wrong file type. The reason i am baffled is when i bought the software (month or two ago) i could open and edit CR2 files successfully, now elements can't open any of the recent CR2 files taken and will only open certain CR2 files that i have had stored on my computer, all of which previously worked.
The Camera RAW plugin is up todate (6.6) and i have tested the SD card in another computer and worked fine. I have tried different cables in my computer and other computers in case the cable was the problem and they seem to check out fine. I have manually downloaded the plug in and checked if the plug in patch was in the correct folder, which it is, as well as re-installing the programme all to no success.
I just cant understand why the problem has started now after originally working fine. Can anyone provide some advice?

    Hi,
I connect to the PC by cable. I have checked the Canon codecs and it appears to be up to date.
The photos seem to transfer to the computer fine (they at least appear on the computer, with the icon showing a preview of the image)  the problem is opening them in the editor.
I shoot in RAW and JPEG and i am able to open and edit all the JPEGs.
As you say the 1000D has been supported for some time and a couple of months ago when i bought elements i was able to edit the RAW files, the problem has occurred in the last month which is the strange thing.
I cant see the cable being the problem seeing as all the JPEGs open fine, and i have used the cable to connect other cameras up to the computer with no problem.

  • Can't Open ANY files to edit in Photoshop Elements 10

I have used Photoshop Elements 10 for about two years and had no problems. Suddenly today it won't open ANY files. Not from the desktop, and not even a blank file to start with. It acts like it is going to, I can choose the sizing for a blank file, but then nothing happens. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Quit the editor then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Can't open any files in Photoshop Elements 9 and 11

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and 11, and right now I cannot open any files at all in either one. I keep getting this same error message every time: "Your request cannot be completed because the file format module cannot parse the file". Anybody have any ideas about what's up with this? I have an iMac running MAC OS-X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion.

    CheekyBugger,
As you are using Photoshop Elements, and this is the Photoshop>General Discussions (PsElements' "big-brother"), I would normally Move this post. However, I know that you now have a post on the same issue, in the Photoshop Elements Forum (Moved from Premiere Elements), so I will just Lock this thread. Please continuse to troubleshoot your "Cannot Parse... " issue in the other thread, in the PsElements Forum: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1405398?tstart=0
    Good luck,

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

According to your User Agent you posted this question using Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1. Are you having a problem with Firefox? What Firefox version?
You said you are having a problem opening PDF files on your system. Can you explain that better? Mozilla Support can help you with opening PDF files in Firefox, which uses a built-in PDF reader. Maybe one of these articles will help?
