Unable to open Bridge CS5

My iMac hard drive crashed.  I installed a new one and re-installed Photoshop CS5.  I am using OS X 10.8.2
Photoshop searched for and found updates and they were all successfully installed.  However, I am unable to open Bridge.  The mini-bridge function gets hung up on "waiting for bridge".  If I attempt to open Bridge from its own icon, it starts the process and then immediately closes.

Strange, can you report back the exact version numbers of PS and Bridge. (sorry, misread the update mentioned in first post)
If you change the finder window to column mode and select the icon it will show the info in a column next to the bridge icon.
Can you also provide details about your computer set up (type of iMac, amount of RAM, free space left on the Disk and Graphic card with amount of VRAM)?
You can check this all under the Apple icon top left 'About this Mac'
Does PS work normal on your system and do you have it activated as a full version and not in trial mode?
Did you try to uninstall PS and reinstall again to see if this would work?

  • Problem opening Bridge CS5 in Windows 7

When I open Bridge CS5 in Windows 7, I get a pop-up window from User Account Contro that asks "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?"  The program listed is Bridge.  If I say NO, Bridge doesn't open.  If I say YES, Bridge opens normally.  This question pops up every time I open Bridge but not with any other CS5 applications or any other program.  Any suggestions?  Thanks,

This is a permissions issue within the OS.  Next time you start Bridge right click on the icon and select "run as administrator" and choose yes.  Perhaps it will stick that way.

  • Unable to open Bridge CS6 after installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 8

I have been using Bridge CS6 successfully until I installed Photoshop Elements 8 to use with a scanner I bought.  After the installation, when clicking on Bridge CS6 it opens Bridge CS5.   I had a look at some of the forums and tried Ctrl-clicking on Bridge CS6, but it still opens  Bridge CS5.  I have also re-installed Photoshop CS6 in the hope that this will fix it.  Any suggestions as how to get Bridge CS6 going again will be appreciated!

Thanks for the replies.  I was able to sort this myself after I watched the the following video on how to reset the Adobe preferences:  http://tv.adobe.com/watch/the-complete-picture-with-julieanne-kost/how-to-reset-photoshop- cs6s-preferences-file/   I did the manual reset where I moved only the preference file to another location e.g. the Desktop.  I restarted my computer.  Closed Bridge CS5 that was running in the background and then clicked on Bridge CS6 and the program opened.  I decided to take a chance to see if this won't fix it and was elated when it worked.  Don't ask my why, but it did the job!

Hello, did you download Bridge CC?
If yes, go to the start it from the start menu, if you are on a PC.
Also, is Photoshop up to date? you should have 14.2 Help>Updates.

  • Unable to change Bridge CS5.5 Cache location to other than c:\user\

For some reason, I am unable to change the Cache location of Bridge CS5.5 outside of my c:\user\ folder. Other drives in the system are not seen by Bridge. This was not the case before. I used to have it in a different dedicated drive. I reset the preferences, deleted the cache but still they do not help. Please help, as my C: Drive is a SSD with limited space and contains OS only! There is no problem with PS or PR, only Bridge.

If it worked before what did you change?
I know there are some problems in Bridge with users relocating temp file to so place other than C drive.  Known bug.

  • Unable to open Photoshop CS5.1

Hi.  I have a Mac running OS X version10.7.5.  I have Photoshop Elements 8 and 9 installed. They work fine.  I also have Photoshop CS5.1 installed.  It worked fine until today.  It will not open.  I tried re-installing from the disk, but I cannot insert the serial number – the first block having 5 letters and a digit.  I sure would appreciate any help you can provide.  Thanks.

You may be able to discover your serial number by entering the product code and your e-mail address at https://www.identit-e.com/default/index/selfHelp/p/14.  Alternately if your software is registered you can follow the directions in http://forums.adobe.com/message/3987968#3987968?promoid=KBHJW to locate you serial number on http://www.adobe.com/.

  • Unable to open Photoshop CS5 from LR3

Just installed LR3... and found that when I have a photo open in it and  I  attempt to go to "Photo" / "Edit in"  within LR3 all references to Photoshop are "Dimmed". Have checked everything I can think of in Preferences, etc. but can't figure out why I can't get PS to open... The photo file is a Tiff... I opened all of them in LR 2.7 without any problem.
The only program that I am able to access is Canon DPP. Help or suggestions???
I know it must be something really simple,,, Thanks

Or remove and reinstall CS5 if you are uncomfortable editing your registry.

  • Unable to open a CS5 file in CC - does not recognize plugin - please help. Just removed old software and replaced with CC yesterday.

I was having issues with illustrator and it was time to upgrade anyway, so I uninstalled all previous versions of Adobe and upgraded to CC. Now I'm trying to open my old files and the exact error reads, "Could not read the fiel because the plug-in could not understand this file." What plug-in do I need to download? And why wasn't this part of the package in the first place?

    Jeannie,
The three step reinstallation may be relevant.
But you could try to create a new document and File>Place the troublesome one to see how much may be rescued that way (remember to tick Paste remembers Layers in the Layer palette flyout/dropdown first, and to untick it afterwards).
If it is a corrupt file, there are some more things to try, but in this case it might take too much of the little time before your deadline.
Here is a website where you can see whether it can rescue the file, and if it can, you may pay for a subscription to have it done,
    http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/buy_illustrator.html
    and another similar website,
    http://markzware.com/adobe-software/fix-illustrator-file-unknown-error-occurred-pdf2dtp-fi le-recovery/
As far as I remember, the former is for Win and the latter for Mac.

  • Unable to open Audition CS5.5

I am a Windows XP user and have recently come across this problem. This issue came out of the blue - I believe it was after a restart, actually - and everytime I try to open my Audition, it says "Adobe Audition has stopped working" . It then says "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly". I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what to do to fix this issue. I have reinstalled the program only to find the same thing happen. It moight also because I'm a tech dummy.. but... please, for any one who can offer some advice as to what I can do, please help me!

First thing to do is to repair your preferences folder. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Applicaiton Data\Adobe\Audition\4.0\ and delete the contents of it, and when you restart Audition, it will be automatically restored to its vanilla state. You may have to 'unhide' this folder on your system in order to be able to see it.
If you don't want to delete everything (you will lose custom settings as well if you do this), then you can try selective deletes to start with.
If that doesn't fix it, report back.

  • Bridge CS5 will not open on new computer

I deactivated ps cs5 on my old computer and used my ps cs5 upgrade disk to install it on my new win 7 ultimate computer. It should be clean install but I did migrate many files from the old win xp computer with windows easy transfer. Bridge will not open and I can not find it listed in my programs. I tried to run my old cs4 upgrade disk and it shows that I have bridge cs4 installed even though I never installed ps cs4 on this machine. Is it possible that some old migrated files are now blocking bridge cs5 from opening? I tried to reset preferences by holding the ctrl key and clicking on bridge but nothing will open. Would this be solved by upgrading to CS6 or will I still have the same issue if bridge cs5 does not open? I tried to run the bridge cs5 update but it will not install. I do not get any error message at any time. Adobe support advisor found an unnamed error but can not recommend a solution.

I ran the creative suite cleaner and removed all files from cs3, cs4. But they are still there listed in c>programfiles (x86)>adobe. I can see adobe bridge cs4 and adobe bridge cs5. when i run bridge.exe from adobe bridge cs5 folder it opens bridge cs5. but i cannot open bridge while ps cs5 is open. I can't seem to delete the cs4 files as it says i need administrator rights, which are somehow not available.
Update: Somehow it did work, even though the cs4 program files are still there. I opened mini bridge from within cs5 and it said something to the effect that it needed to close cs4 bridge and use cs5, i clicked okay and my files were displayed in mini bridge cs5. I closed that and then clicked the bridge icon from within ps cs5 and bridge cs5 opened. I guess I changed the preferences somehow. Thanks for your answer and suggestion, which may well have been the solution or it led me to the correct step. The big point is that I avoided the big reinstall I dreaded after two days of getting cs5 set up with all plug-ins,etc installed. Thanks for your help!

  • Adobe Bridge CS5.1 - Edit Export Preset Crash

I have successfully duplicated this issue on multiple machines, multiple user accounts running variations of 10.7 - 10.7.2. All Adobe updates applied.
Open Bridge CS5.1 > Click on EXPORT Panel tab > Save to Hard Drive (double click to edit) > choose Browse...
If you don't crash at this point... choose cancel and then select Browse again. You may also successfully select a folder, then go back and reedit preset by selecting Browse again... Crash.
I feel like I have tried it all... clean OS X, clean install of CS5.5 - no luck.

Same problem here.  It's really frustrating.  Thinking of ditching Bridge and switching to another app.  If I can't batch export RAW to JPEG, the program is pretty useless.
