Unable to Open Catalog 'My Catalog'

Hi. I have just downloaded and installed PSA SE 3.0 under Windows/2K SP4. I have an Administrator and 3 Users defined, one of which has Administrator rights. When I logon as either Administrator or the other authorized user, PSA SE runs just fine. When I logon as either of the other two users (who don't have Administrator rights), and start PSA SE, I get this message: "Unable to open catalog 'My Catalog' because you do not have permission to open it. Please select an action to perform: 1.Open an existing catalog, or 2.Create a new catalog named 'My Catalog-1.psa'" If I select option 1 (Open an existing . . .", I get the same error. If I select option 2 (Create . . .", I get the error: "Unable to create a new catalog. Please reinstall Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0". Of course I can't reinstall it from the "non-Administrator" users. When I log back on as Administrator and check for Photoshop SE updates, it says there aren't any. While on as Administrator I went into PSA SE Properties 'Security' tab and gave 'Read&Execute', 'Read', and 'Write' authority to the the "non-Administrator" users and still got all the same previous errors. What is the problem and what is he solution? Thanks.

Thanks. Might be making some progress. As I said before I had followed the path suggested by Help > System Information. Had also done amendment to Show Hidden Files, which the database seems to be.
But have now taken your advice and unticked the box relating to "Hide file extensions for known file types".
Using Windows Explorer on the old computer I now find that My Catalog folder includes a file named "catalog.pse7db"
File size is approx 19,500Kb - so this would appear to be the relevant file.
Have also now followed the Help>System information path on the new computer and the My Catalog folder also contains a file "catalog.pse7db". But file size is only 119Kb - so clearly not the version from the old machine.
Not sure if this might be relevant but have just noticed a slight difference in the locations indicated by Photoshop
On old machine this is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My Catalog
On new machine this is C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My catalog
Also just noticed that the bottom part of the dialogue box on new computer indicates "Operating System name = Vista Version 6.1"
Puzzling - as new machine definitely has Windows 7 installed and have never had Vista on either computer.

  • Unable to open Lightroom 5 catalog on PC

I'm unable to open my Lightroom 5 catalog.  A message appears stating "Lightroom 5 catalog cannot be opened because another application already has it opened".   In reviewing similar questions on the forum it looks like this might have been caused when my computer shut down suddenly when Lightroom was still open.  A response to a similar previous question suggested looking for the file with a .lock extension and deleting it or renaming it.  I checked my files and found none with a .lock extension.

Yes, that is the file. Lightroom creates that every time the program starts. It's part of the underlying database technology integrated in Lightroom. If Lightroom shuts down abnormally, or there is a different problem with of the computer system that forces the shutdown of the program this file can be left as an orphan. And it has to be deleted before you can start Lightroom again.

  • I am unable to open Lightroom 5 catalogs due to "unexpected error"

I cannot currently open Lightroom. Each time I try it tells me that the catalog could not open due to an "unexpected error". I get this error for every catalog and every backup. I can't even seem to create a new catalog successfully. Any help would be great.

Did a site search for "unexpected error" not turn anything up?

  • Unable to open My Catalog after transfer to new computer

I use Elements 7 on computer running Windows XP. Has approximately 5000 photo's in My Catalog - all tagged and with captions.
Am in process of moving to new computer with Windows 7 - 64bit version. Have used original disc to load Elements 7 on new machine and Elements Organiser opens OK but with just a blank My catalog - and all tags are missing.
I used Windows Easy Transfer to move all files and settings to the new machine.
The catalog appears to have been transferred and Elements Help > System Information shows that it is located at undernoted - which it is, according to Windows Explorer.
    C:\ProgrammeData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Catalogs\My Catalog
But I have been unable to find any way of getting Elements to connect to this file and open it as 'My Catalog' on the new machine. Would be catastrophic to find that I have to re tag and caption all these photo's. Probably impossible.
Have tried all the options under the File Dropdown menu relating to Catalog.
Have had differing opinions on whether Elements 7 can be used with Windows 7 64 bit - some say is OK, others say not. Though it does open as it did under XP - just does not detect the Catalog.
    Any ideas please?

  • I am unable to launch Lightroom 5 Catalog:Ircat. A black long rectangle comes up the reads: Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat.  But in never opens?

I am unable to launch Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat.  A black rectangle says: Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat, but it never opens.

I have Windows 7 Home premium, Lightroom 5.6 64bit  The program was working
properly till a few weeks ago.  At that time I was not able to get my
files.  There was the little question mark on them.  I have three external
drives with pictures in them.  H and G drives all have question marks as to
the location of the original pictures.  I drive which I share with a laptop
where it work just fine and had been working fine now I can no longer
access Lightroom 5 Catalog on it.
I noticed two or three days ago that when I opened Lightroom it opened
another Catalog Call Lightroom Catalog 2.  So when I tried to launch
Lightroom Catalog 5, I get the long rectangular bar with the message
"Lightroom - Opening Catalog: Lightroom Catalog.Ircat".  But it never
opens.  The message just sits there.  There are error messages.   The
external drive with Lightroom 5 Catalog.Ircat continues to work fine on my
    laptop.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Unable to open catalog with access

I had a few issues with my computer, so i backed up (copied) all files, pictures and the .psa files to an external disk.
I would like to re-open these old catalogs and edit the paths to where the pictures are.
I therefore tried to open up a copy of the .psa file with ms access 95 (yeah, i know its an old version, only one i have) but couldnt open the .mdb file. Error given "Unrecognized format ... ".
Could this be a version issue ?
I then tried to open the .mdb file using OpenOffice Base and strangely enough, base opens the file as a document !!! where i see the following header: Standard Jet DB ...
How can i open this catalog created by pse 3.0 to edit/change the links ????
Any help would be great, as i have thousands of pictures with tag information that i would like to re-use.
    Thanks,
    Sunil

Saurabh: I am not using windows 95. I am running Windows XP Pro but running an old copy of Office 95 which has access with it. So, maybe a problem with office/access 95 trying to open the catalog file.
(Maybe a new catalog/access format that access 95 cannot understand ?)
And when i use the openoffice's base program to open the catalog, it doesnt open with the error stated above !
Does this mean elements has a problem with the catalog i.e Catalog corrupted ??
Is there a salvage program anywhere that i could try to use ???
Would hate to think that years of tagging/cataloging has gone to waste !!!

  • Error message - can't open up current catalog

I am getting this error out of nowhere. yesterday I could get into Lightroom fine. Then last night I started getting an error that pops-up with a "ringing bell" sound and I have to CTRL ALT DELETE out of the program because none of the buttons work.
    The error says:
    DATABASE "C://Documents and Settings\GINA\My Documents\Lightroom\Lightroom Catalog.lrcat" unable to open database file. Statement: SELECT AGLibraryContent.id_local FROM AgLibraryContent WHERE ( ( AgLibraryContent.containingTag == ? ) AND ( AgLibraryContent.owningModule == ? ) ) ;
I can open the program by pressing CTRL when it launches and creating a new catalog but then all of my 1000s of pictures are GONE!
    Any advice???
    Thanks!

Test the integrity of the catalog. You can tick this option using the Ctrl key when launching.
Do you keep backups of your catalog? (You should.) Rename the existing catalog file then copy the most recent backup catlog file to the catalog folder. Launch Lr to see if the backup works OK.

I  have a new Mac Pro computer and have migrated my files from my older computer to the new computer. In trying to open a Lightroom catalog on an external hard drive  I keep on getting the message "lightroom cannot use the catalog named " " because it is  not writable and cannot be opened. I have fixed all the "permissions" and yet it will still not open. How do I fix this?

    Hello Forum Members,
I figured it out. You have to select  the actual logo of the Lightroom catalog and then click on  "get info" and allow what ever your new user name to "read and write". That worked!

  • Lightroom opens fine initially, but when trying to open a different catalog it will go through the process but never reopen again. I can't get it to open at all until the computer is reset.

Lightroom opens fine initially, but when trying to open a different catalog it will go through the process but never reopen again. I can't get it to open at all until the computer is reset. I have been using Lightroom 4 for 18  months now and this problem just started happening in the last month.

No error messages. It acts totally normal but just never reopens when I try to reopen a new catalog. I create a catalog for each of my clients....I have done this since I started using lightroom as it seems tidy to me. But, I have never had this problem until now. I am using a pc and vista and Lightroom 4. Thanks.

  • Error when attemtping to open the application catalog with Firefox

We are actively migrating to our CM2012 R2 CU1 environment. However, we have a number of different browsers and versions in use.
We've recently seen an issue in Firefox 37.0.1 when some people (but not all) attempt to open the application catalog.  Firefox will display the "This connection is untrusted" message.  The users will select the option of I understand
the risks.  They are presented with the button to "Add Exception".  However, when they select that, nothing happens.
These individuals are administrators on their workstation.  We've tried having them do the "Restart with add-ons disabled" as well as deleting the cert8.db and cert_override.txt files.  They still get the same result.
    Then I saw this:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx  Firefox 15??  This document was updated in March.
The majority of our users do not use IE as they prefer Chrome and/or Firefox.
Has anyone experienced this with Firefox?

Couple of notes that may be of value you to:
    1.  Even if you are using an alternative browser, the security zones that you see in IE are applied at the OS level, and thus making sure said app catalog site is either in the trusted sites or intranet sites zone is required for everything from auto-sign-in
    to app deployment.
    2.  Chrome stopped supporting Silverlight back at the end of November.  As that's required for the AppCatalog, that's not an option for now.  Not your direct question, but something to be aware of.

  • Opening a new catalog in Lightroom4.3

I am not able to open  new catalog in Lightroom 4.3. It is asking for a file inseatd of folder...can you help please ?

    When I select
    File->New Catalog,
it asks me for a file ... you must tell Lightroom the name and location for this new catalog.
Catalogs are not related to folders, so you shouldn't be expecting it to ask for a folder.

  • How do I set my preferences to open most recent catalog?

    I'm running LR 4.1 with ACR 7.1 on a Windows 7 64 bit OS.
I set my preferences to open most recent catalog.
I then open another catalog and do some stuff in the catalog but when I start LR next time it keeps going back to a different catalog. How can I change the settings so it either opens the most recent catalog or I get prompted for which catalog I'd like to open (I've tried both settings) and LR still keeps opening the same catalog.

In the same dialog that your screenshot shows select as per this screen shot:
Your setting should open the catalog you most recently worked with. If you work on catalog A, then open catalog B, with your settings Lr will open with catalog B the next time.

  • Unable to find a qualifications catalog for the root object specified-ESS

    Hi SDN,
We are getting following exception Unable to find a qualifications catalog for the root object specified   when click on Add New Skill in Skills Profile, ESS . It is working fine , if user is assigned sap_all role. This is issue with permissions. Which role need to be assigned to work with Skills Profile in r3. Please help me out.
    regards,
    Sree.

Have a look in table T77S0 for an entry called QUALI ESSST and make sure the object ID stored there matches the appropriate node in your qualifications catalogue.
This setting is designed to be used for restricting ESS users to a particular part of the Quals Catalogue.
If the table entry was configured in your development system, it may not match the obect numbers in your production system.

Your solution worked when applied to a administrative user account but did work with a student account.
I'm not sure why that is happening.
If you're on Vista or Windows 7, you could try setting the program to run permanently as Administrator, as described here:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Slide_show_preview
If that doesn't help, my only suggestion would be to work through these tedious troubleshooting steps:

  • LR5 will not open ANY existing catalog

LR5.4, MacBook Pro, all catalogs on 256 SSD intermal, photos on external drive. Experienced LR user (since beta tester for v1) I am a CC subscriber, but LR is previous buy and under serial number.
New problem: LR will not open any of my 5 catalogs. Will create a new catalog (empty), then will not open it. On program open, choose any catalog from window: after a minute or so, goes to pizza wheel, then quits. No error message, nothing. System Force Quit shows still open, "...not responding."
    Actions:
    1. Downloaded copy, reinstalled over existing: no change.
    2. Use Time Machine to go back 48 hrs (when it was working) and Restore of entire User Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom: no change.
Before I lose an extensive preference file or other setup, I'm wondering if anyone has some help here.

    My recommendations:
    1. Reset the preference file (I know you don't want to) Follow these instructions. http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14226-Resetting-(or-Trashing-)-the-Lightroom -Preferences-file
    2. If that doesn't work, I would recommend. Uninstall - fresh download of LR - reinstall.
