Unable to Open Date & Time

I have been unable to Open Date & Time for several weeks now despite many attempts, rebootings and re-attempts. I get a "System Preferences has quit unexpectedly" message. It wasn't much of an issue when the time was correct, but the clock has recently reverted to December 31, 1969 and goes back to that date with each reboot. I have to hit a Continue button every time I go to a new website in Firefox (Safari no longer works) due to the time issue, and I can't purchase anything in iTunes.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
One thing to try is to go to Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder) and verify and repair if necessary both permissions and the disk. If the start up disk needs repair, you will need to use the Disk Utility on one of the gray original discs that came with your computer. While you have the original discs out, you might try running the Apple Hardware test and see if anything shows up.
It also could be that your OS has become corrupted. If this is the case, you will need to reinstall it. But be sure and back up all your data before taking this step.
Please post back with any results.
Good luck!

  • When I try to open "date/time preferences" or "system preferences" they are unresponsive.

My date/time is incorrect and when I try to open it, it is unresponsive.  Also, when I try to open "system preferences" from the apple drop down menu, it is also unresponsive.  How can I fix that?

You might want to try deleting your
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file in your hidden User/Library folder
Use the Finder Go> Go to menu and paste this to expose the hidden folder
    ~/Library/Preferences
find the file, there will be two of them and Trash the one you can move, reboot and reset your preferences.
You can also use #12 and #13 OnyX routine to find any corrupt .plist files (holds your preferences) and use the same search and delete, reboot and rest preferences steps.

    Hi,
What is the Java Applet version you have in the browser?Update your JRE version in your system. It will solve the problem.
To do this goto Controlpanel -> Java . This will open a pop up. Then go to Update TAB and click on Update button to get the recent version of JRE.

  • Unable to open data process control

    Hi,
While I open Data Process Control, it prompt error as below. How to fix it?
An error occurred while initializing POV data. Confirm that metadata has been loaded and that you have sufficient security rights.+

    Hi
According to Oracle Support, the cause of the issue is:
The file HsvWebSessionWSP.dll was not registered properly. This file will be in HFM Webserver under the location <MiddlewareHome>\EPMSystem11R1\products\FinancialManagement\WebServices.
    And the solution is:
Re-registering the HsvWebSessionWSP.dll file should resolve the issue, by using this command: regsvr32 "<MiddlewareHome>\EPMSystem11R1\products\FinancialManagement\WebServices\HsvWebSessionWSP.dll"
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,

  • Unable to open real-time application saved file

Hi all, I've build a specification for my thermocouple target. My modules over here is cFP-2120 controller, cFP-TC-120 & cFP-CB-3. However, I'm not sure whether did I set the correct setting for every page of the real-time application, I can't seem to open the temperature data file from the destination for saving the file. The type of file is Bitmap Image. Thanks. =)

What does a bitmap image have to do with the datafile?  How are you creating your datafile?  What kind of errors are you getting when you try to open the data file?  What is "every page of the real-time application"?
Perhaps you can post your VI's and clarify your question some more.

  • How to automatically open date/time field (calendar) when end user tabs to that field

Have two calendar fields...calendar 1 and calendar two
Is there a way to have the calendars automatcally open when field is either clicked on or tabbed to?
    thanks

You can try one work around:
Add another UDF time with plain text field.
Implement post-insert event handler to insert time value in this field. In the event handler you can write the code to put time in the format you want.
    regards,

  • I can't open my date & time configuration

    Hello everyone ,
Title tells the problem , but I will tell you it in a little more detailed way . I have a son who always liked Mac's and he asked me to give him my old Machintosh OS X Tiger . Date is configured wrong but we can't change it because EVERYTIME we try to open Date & Time preferences it leads us to DateAndTime.prefpane with it's contents folder . I don' t think about upgrading computer to leopard , rather I will buy him new mac book pro for his birthday , but for now we need a solution . Can anybody help ?
    What we tried :
Using Disk Utility to verify and fix permissions
That's the only answer we found on net and it didin't work .

    Try this first...
Open a Finder window. From the menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file to the Trash.
Restart the Mac. If that didn't help, check the startup disk to see if it needs repairing. (not the same as permissions)
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permisions)
If the Mac came with Tiger installed, boot from the install disc to make repairs.
If the disk is ok, restore OS X. That should fix the date and time issue.

  • Mac Book Pro Locks up when opening Date and Time system preferences

    Hi,
I have a macbook pro which i have had for about 6 months and i am so pleased with it. But now i have a problem.
Everytime i go into system preferences and then to the date and time settings it locks up. The date and time settings window will appear and looks normal but i cant do nething with it, and when i hover over the window with my mouse i get the little spinning coloured mouse icon. The only way i can then exit it is to "Force Quit" it. I reinstalled mac os x last night, to see if this would fix the problem, but it did not, and have received all updates for it.
I used to have a problem where the time would be either 1 hour fast or 1 hour slow and this would keep changing by itself everytime i started the computer.
    Regards
    Charlie

    Thanks for the replies guys...
Yes, the date/time is set to auto and the source is "Apple Americas/US (time.apple.com)"
One thing I noticed is that whenever it hangs for 45 sec or so.....once the window shows up (after hanging), the lock for changes is "open".....but if I lock it at that point, close the window and then rt click on time and open Date/Time again, it does not hang......somehow when this is "locked", it does not hang when you want to open it.
But, if u are in the lock mode, and want to "click the lock" to make changes, it hangs on you again......hope this makes sense.

  • Beachball when opening "Date and Time"...? System Freeze..?

I want to know if there is anyone out there with a similar issue-
When I *right click* on the Time (top right on Menu bar) and then *click on "Open Date and TIme"*, I get the beachball......it typically waits in beachball mode for about *45 sec-1min* before actually displaying the "*Date and Time"* window.
I was on the phone with Apple care about this *and the issue with the system freezing*.......they asked me to archive and re-install , but the issue with the date and time is still there. I will wait and see if the system freeze has been solved (I didnt install version 1.1).
Like the folks in other threads have already pointed out, my system freezes when it comes back from "Sleep".......and also when I am doing doing simple things like browsing.
Lets see....but please let me know if anyone sees the issue with the date/time...
    Thanks,
New Mac Convert (a little frustrated that it crashes worse than my windows box)

  • Macbook date & time settings icon gone

I have a ~4 year old Macbook, 2.2 Intel Core 2 running OS/X 10.5.8. Several months ago, I went to "Open Date & Time..." by clicking on my clock. I click on it and nothing occurs. I went to my System Preferences to access via the "Date & Time" icon. The icon is gone.
I have been unable to find an analogous sitiation on the internet, in speaking with Mac representatives, or from my university's tech support department. Has anyone experienced this issue? What of the disappearing icon (I have never seen a system preference/control panel icon simply disappear...)? Any ideas?

Open System Preferences, click on the 'View' menu and select 'Customize'.  You will see all the icons available within System Preferences but with checkmarks next to them.  If Date & Time is there then it will not have the checkmark.  Check it, then click on the 'Done' button at the top.

  • Date/Time Problem Results In Spinning Wheel

My mom's eMac recently was shutdown during a power outage, and came back with the date/time reset problem (I'm familiar with this when my battery comes loose on my iBook).
Only problem is, if I try to launch System Preference or Open Date & Time I get the spinning wheel that doesn't allow me to reset the date/time. On top of that, I can't seem to get anything to launch right now b/c it seems Finder is what's getting the spinning wheel. The only thing that launches is AIM (which is on autolaunch), but it can't be accessed at all from the computer (though it does show up as signed on when I'm signed on to AIM at work).
I've tried a force quit to relaunch finder with no results, and have also blasted the PRAM and tried the instructions for resetting the PMU (if I'm doing that right).
One thing I can across is the possibility I need to replace the internal backup battery. Could that be the problem, or have I run into soemthing much more serious.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Hello! A power outage often damages the disk's directory information. Boot from the install disc ("c" key down at startup with disc inserted) and right after the language screen navigate through the drop down menus to the disk utility and repair the disc. Run the repair multiple times if it reports errors until it doesn't report errors. Tom

  • Unable to play Quick Time movies in web pages

We have Quick Time 7.0.4 player installed on Mac OS X v10.4, But we are unable to open Quick time movies in web browser from external web sites.
It gives us error ‘To view this movie, you will need QuickTime 5 (or later)’
If we open Quick time movies from local disk in web browser then it works perfectly alright.
Could you please let us know the reason behind this?
Note: I have encounter this problem on safari and IE 5.2 browser.

For instance if you go to this page again in Safari,
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf06/
and then select "View Source" from the View menu, then press command-f to "find" within the page and search for ".mov"
You will find this, which shows the url of the movie itself.
    <param name="href" value="http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov">
If you copy just this part:
    http://stream.qtv.apple.com/events/jan/mw2006/mmw_2006_650ref.mov
And open QuickTime Player, go to the File menu, select "Open URL" the movie will play.
If you try the same technique on the page at the link provided by your client, it will allow you to bypass the html code that may be doing an outdated compatibility check and the movie may play. Or it may tell you that you are missing components (codecs, compressors etc.) in which case, post here again.

  • Single digit modification dates, date & time corruption

I have an iBook G4 running the latest version of Tiger, and I have a Date corruption that I can't resolve. When I click the Menu Bar to show the date, it only displays a single digit # (currently 3). When I open Date & Time in System Preferences, the calendar correctly shows the date, but the date is always listed in the box above as the 13th of the month. I can manually adjust the date in the calendar and it will stay, or have it set automatically, and it will work, but the date is always listed as the 13th of the month. Here's the confusing part: All dates in the Finder are listed as single digit #s. the modification and creation dates of everything in the finder are a number between 1 and 5. I've deleted date preference files in the user and universal libraries, and problem persists.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Jeffrey,
Experiment with your settings in System Preferences...>International>Formats>Dates>>Customize... and Calendar>Gregorian.
    ;~)

  • Date & Time freezes when loading

I have been trying to adjust my settings for Date & Time after just updating to v.10.4.11 of Tiger. When I open Date & Time however, whether from the clock in the menu bar or from System Preferences, the Date & Time screen opens with a heading "Loading Date & Time" but soon thereafter, before I've done anything, I get the spinning beachball, the application stops responding, and I have to force a quit. I also notice that the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the screen (to click to permit changes) is not appearing.
Has anyone encountered this and better yet solved it?

hmmm... i've been a wimp, and i feared that removing the com.apple.systempreferences.plist might mess up with other preferences than just Date&Time -- i don't feel like configuring everything anew right now :-\. so what will my mac look like if i trash the syspref file?
i've tried removing only the com.apple.MenuBarClock.plist, and that didn't solve anything, the control panel is still freezing
