I have tried both Xorg and Xsun in solaris 10 . Can anyone suggest me how to fix this problem. I am pasting Xsun.0.log here in. I have the same error in Xorg. I have installed patches 118966-15 and 120536-08. Log gives all of my environment info.
Here it goes:

Hi!
I have a E420 here which suffered from a massively corrupt Root-FS(leaving her in an unbootable State) that i had to recover from Backup.
Now after I got the Machine to boot properly i have the Problem that certain Services wouldnt start. For example prngd or RPC.
prngd says something like this:
Could not create socket: Protocol not supported
Looking further into it I discovered that these Devices:

• Unable to run reports from the unix command line

hi
all of a sudden i am unable to run reports ( on App server 10g) either from the unix scripts or from the unix command line. But i can run them from the forms.
Any one have any idead about this.
Thank you

thanks all for replying
i have set the env variables for the session and it worked. Looks like i have to set the oracle_home and ld_library_path every time ( opening a new putty session) i call sqlldr.
But in a whole i am trying to run sql loader from the forms. Right now we have Oracle app server 10g which forms 10g version. As oracle app server 10g didnt come with sqlldr, we are copied the sqlldr of database on to app server with different home. after this we can run sqlldr ( on app server ) from unix scripts but not from Forms. Then we opened a qurey with oracle about app server 10g not commig with sqlldr and its remedy . But they said that they dont have specific remedy for that and suggested the same what we did.
So we came up with java package which does the same funtion as host command and trying to run sqlldr which is on the database( ie replacing the host command in the forms with the database funtion). By using that funtion i am able to run the sqlldr from sql plus but not from forms. I couldnt easily debug it as i wont through any error messages.
Any one have any idea of this ...

• How to open an online pdf from command-line

Hi,
I'm trying to get my application to open a pdf file from an url like http://xxxx.dk/xxx.aspx?CID=xxx
it work from inside adobe reader so the pdf file is a functionel file, but when i try to open it from command line like: AcroRd32.exe /n /A "pagemode=none" "http://xxxx.dk/xxx.aspx?CID=xxx" i keep getting an error telling me "There was an error opening this document. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect"
does anyone have an idea of what i need to do? i could also make a public test if someone needs to see the issue "live"

it works with the browser, so no problems there.. i just wanted the pdf file to open in adobe reader instead of browser window, as it opens from a windows application.. but perhaps i need to look more into merging a embedded pdf viewer in the application instead..

• Open Zenworks Progress window from command line?

I'm well aware of the option Show Bundle Activity for bundles, but the Zenworks Progress window gives a little more information. Is there any way to open that from a command line, so it can be used in a bundle action?
I know it has something to do with ZenNotifyIcon.exe but I can't find any info about possible arguments to pass to it.

bkeadle,
You could also use an AutoIT script to do the same thing.
Here's a forum post where they've already laid the groundwork for such a script:
How to operate a icon in system tray? - AutoIt Forums
You'd just need to modify it as needed with the correct tooltip (presuming it has some static text at the beginning), and add some extra commands to click the correct menu item.

• Unable to set 'tap to click' by command line

Use case: I'm trying to write a script to set up new macbooks with a set of dev tools and usability configuration options.
Most configurations are simple enough to change by altering the global application setting e.g. setting the scroll direction with the command:
defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.swipescrolldirection -bool false
Apparently the following commands were able to enable the tap to click trackpad behavior in previous OSX versions:
defaults -currentHost write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 1
defaults write NSGlobalDomain com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 1
However, as of Maverick (and possibly Mountain Lion) these do not work.
I checked the defaults values and changing the scroll setting via the GUI does indeed change the actual variable (com.apple.swipescrolldirection) and changing the variable by command line successfully changes the setting. However, the tap to click variable does not exist in the defaults NSGlobalDomain read out and setting the tap to click via GUI has no effect on any variables in this list. When I create and turn on the com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior variable, oddly the GUI's checkbox is checked for tap to click but the feature remains turned off.
My best guess is that trackpad options have been moved out of NSGlobalDomain and there is still some vestigial code reading for the no longer functional variable that is setting the gui checkbox even though its not enabling the feature.
My question: how can I set tap to click (and other trackpad options) by the command line?
Thanks!

If you do "java -jar ..." on the command line then any "-cp ..." options are ignored. That's because "java -jar ..." assumes you will have set up the classpath in the jar's manifest file like you're supposed to.

• Options passed to apps when opening from Dock vs Terminal command line

I have a much used freeware application called Aquamacs (it is a mac-specific version of the emacs text editor). If I open the application from the dock, I can not use it to "compile" .tex files written in the LaTeX markup language. However, if I start it from a terminal command line with no additional options:
/Applications/Aquamacs\ Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS/Aquamacs\ Emacs filename.tex
then everything works just fine. Evidently, beginning from the dock passes some additional option that interferes with LaTeX. Does anyone know how to control what options an application gets at startup from the dock? I would even be satisfied just to know what options are passed. Thanks.

From what I'm reading, you are working towards MDT but it's not approved yet, so the goal is to:
Deploy a "bundle" of applications as painlessly as possible without using UDI to make customizations quick.
Lets talk options then.
Option 1: If machines types are in a unique OU or security group, create a collection for that and set these applications to mandatory install. After initial deployment, the provisioner can drop the computer in the proper OU or group and you're
good to go. Downside: collections refresh plus client check-in makes this less than instant.
Option 2: Orchestrator. You can write a runbook that will approve and push apps. You can then use the Orch console front end or a more friendly sharepoint/SM portal to push things out like a Manager would approve apps. Downside: if
not already deployed, there's no way they would approve that infrastructure if they are hesitant about MDT/UDI :)
Option 3: PowerShell and WMI. This should be doable ... but I've never tried it. It looks like you're headed down the right path ... but i guess my question is: if you can't have UDI when do get to pick the app? Are you planning
to write a full multi-box for them to check their apps after the fact? In that case ... just have the appcontroller URL pop up on first login ... might be easier than reinventing the wheel.

• Administration Port / command line / console gui question

In the Admin_ref.pdf doc it says "After enabling the administration port, all Administration Console traffic must connect via the administration port". Does this mean that you can no longer use the web gui console to manage the servers?
I would like the option to script deployments (deploy ears, stop start servers etc.) via command line to reduce the possibility of user error during routine deployments.
I do config mgmt. and am not a developer so I may be getting hung up on the language here.
Thanks,

Hi
For first question the answer is no. With the administration port, you enable the SSL between the admin server and Node manager-managed Servers. You can still use the web console.
For teh second question, you can use ANT or can use the WLS Scripting ..you can get more details in dev2dev.bea.com

• Unable to open file: "repscheme.sql" The command failed.

Hello,
I'm trying to apply the commands specified in repscheme.sql but am getting the error in the subject line when trying. The replication documentation did not specify the location to save repscheme.sql to, so I suspect I may have it in the wrong place.
It's currently saved to c:\temp\ - the same location as the masterds & subscriberds.
Thanks,
Gary

I assume that you are trying to run this from inside a ttIsql session? The 'default' location for .sql files, if no path is incldued is your current directory (i.e. the directory you were in when you started ttIsql. So, if you were in C:\Temp when you started ttIsql you could issue the following at the ttIsql command prompt:
Command> run repscheme.sql;
or
Command> run repscheme;
or
Command> *@repscheme.sql;*
or
Command> *@repscheme;*
If your current directory is elsewhere then you can give the full path of the file as follows; note that as the '\' character is the 'escape' character you have to escape it.
Command> run C:\\temp\\repscheme.sql;
or
Command> run c:\\temp\\repscheme;
or
Command> *@c:\\temp\\repscheme.sql;*
or
Command> *@c:\\temp\\repscheme;*
Is that what you were asking or have I misunderstood the question?

• Open file in folder with command line program

I have a file, which is in native format for a given program [1] I have installed. This program I can start from Terminal.app and within the program I can open the file. The question is if I can have associated with this specific filetype this program and when I double click on a file of this type I can have a Terminal.app opened with my program running inside opening the file for me.
Btw, on a regular Linux/Unix I would just associate this filetype with the path to my program. On Mac I can associate only with .app.. Is there other way?
[1] http://root.cern.ch/drupal/

I do not fully understand your question.
You need to make your program into an application. I have not programmed on Mac OS so I to not know the details. You could hack some existing app. I do know that the plist file for an app points to the starting program.
Another work around would be to write an apple script file to call your program.
This applescript invokes a unix program.
Run in the Script Editor.
Click on the Event Log tab to see the output from the log statement
Click on Run
For running shell commands see:
http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/technotes/tn2002/tn2065.html
on run
-- Write a message into the event log.
log " --- Starting on " & ((current date) as string) & " --- "
-- ask the user for the folder name.
-- quoted form of (POSIX path of (choose folder))
set theFolder to "/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app"
set theFolder to quoted form of theFolder
log "quoted form is " & theFolder
-- running two Unix commands. Separate with a semicolon
set fromUnix to do shell script "cd " & theFolder & "; ls -ld ."
log fromUnix
display dialog fromUnix giving up after 30
end run
This applescript program received a file dropped on it.
There is a lot of extra stuff but look at on open dropped_items This line gets a list of files dropped on the applescript. Your have to change the name format.
on open dropped_items
-- Remember you need to turn on enable assistive devices
-- this lets applications software to access screen elements
-- blue apple > system perferences > universal access > enable assistive devices
-- Write a message into the event log.
log " --- Starting on " & ((current date) as string) & " --- "
-- set see to alias "Macintosh-HD:Users:mac:Desktop:app.html"
-- set dropped_items to {see}
set the_app to "Safari"
repeat with dropped_item_ref in dropped_items
--set UrlBase to "xzzx FILE://" & POSIX path of dropped_item_ref
--display dialog UrlBase
-- Activate
activate application the_app
-- Open the URL
tell application the_app

• Problem opening a file from a command line executed program with args

I have to run my program from the command prompt like this:
c:\ java Parser template.txt keyvalue.dat output.txt
I figured out how to read the args in, and I know they are being assigned to the proper variables. My template.txt, etc are in the same directory that I am in when I run the program. They are also all lowercase, just like the command.
The only error it throws is the one that I coded (Error opening file template.txt) I would make my message better if I knew what the problem was!!!!
Any ideas (either for what I'm missing or how to improve my error handling) :\

• "open -ef" works "open -t" does not from command line

Hi,
this question is based on @Linc Davis' troubleshooting command which contains open -ef at the end.
the Command:
syslog | tail | open -ef
works perfectly on my osx 10.8.5 and opens the required lines from syslog in textEdit, however when I run
syslog | tail | open -t
which should open the same lines in my default text editing program I get nothing and just the lines --No lines in buffer--
I am using MacVim as my default text editor.

Try:
syslog | tail | open -tf
or
syslog | tail | open -f -a /Applications/MacVim.app

• Change Open Directory Home Users Directory Command Line

We have over 1,000 users in our first attempt at Open Directory. Right now they have all different home directories but we'd like to set them all to one location, the temp directory, it's for a student lab. What is the best way to programmatically run through every OD users, check their home directory setting, then change it?

As an additional comment:
I used the dscl -passwd CLI for over a year and it was effective. However, sometime around the update to 10.5.8 this command refused to work on my server and resulted in a dsLDAP error code. This happened even if run from a terminal window on the server. The OD master is still running strong without errors.
Thanks to Galen Sprague who posted an alternative, I switched to pwpolicy as in:
$ pwpolicy -a <LDAPadmin> -p <adminPW> -u <username> -setpassword <newpassword>
This seems to work consistently from a Ruby invocation and at the terminal.
The advantage is that an old password is not required only the new password.
The disadvantage is that a user could change his/her own password using dscl -passwd without requiring the adminUser authentication.
