Unable to open /dev/ticlts, /dev/ticots & /dev/ticotsord

Hi!
I have a E420 here which suffered from a massively corrupt Root-FS(leaving her in an unbootable State) that i had to recover from Backup.
Now after I got the Machine to boot properly i have the Problem that certain Services wouldnt start. For example prngd or RPC.
prngd says something like this:
Could not create socket: Protocol not supported
Looking further into it I discovered that these Devices:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root staff 29 Mar 14 16:07 /dev/ticlts -> ../devices/pseudo/tl@0:ticlts
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root staff 29 Mar 14 16:07 /dev/ticots -> ../devices/pseudo/tl@0:ticots
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root staff 32 Mar 14 16:07 /dev/ticotsord -> ../devices/pseudo/tl@0:ticotsord
aren't accesible. Neither the Links nor the physical ones. I tried rebooting with -r which creates now links but leaves the physical ones as they are.
<HOSTNAME>:/>cat /dev/tic*
cat: cannot open /dev/ticlts
cat: cannot open /dev/ticots
cat: cannot open /dev/ticotsord
Anyone have a Clue as how to fix this or what the cause of the Problem might be ?
regards
oliver

Hi Dev;
Can you let me know where I can find the type of ethernet used for my configuration.type ifconfig as root
I am able to access the EBS 11i application using http://localhost.localdomain:8000
The /etc/hosts file in my linux server has the below entry
[oracle@localhost ~]$ cat /etc/hosts
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhostNormaly during installation you need to use new IP for your installation, your /etc/hosts entery should be like
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
10.x.x.x test.xx.com test (where test is localhost,xx.com is localdomain)
I am able to ping the IP (127.0.0.1)
Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128please try to add below entery to your C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain
Then try to login your ebs from your client http://localhost.localdomain:8000
PS: I am not sure it will work, just try and see whathappen, as i mention normaly i always use new IP for installation. This is also mention in installation guide too
Regard
Helios

  • Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda2

    hello,
So I've a linux partition, and then I wanted to install a Windows copy. I've only 1 HDD with differents partition into it:
    sda5 (swap)
    sda6 /user
    sda7/var
sda8 / (which contain the boot and root of course)
    sda3 /home
    sda2 NTFS (windows xp)
So, as I had linux installed before windows, I had to make my sda2 NTFS (87) under my cfdisk. Then, I went to install windows, everything worked fine, windows booted with his boot system, but I had to restore grub with my archlinux live cd:
    grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
    grub>root (hd0,7)
    grub>setup (hd0)
everything worked successfully, my grub loaded till while booting archlinux I got this error:
couldn't find ext2 superblock, trying backup blocks...
e2fsck: Bad magic number in super-block while trying to open /dev/sda2
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
    e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
What I tried is to run the e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sda2 but right after that, I thought about it, this isn't linux partition so of course, the superblock isn't the same as they are ntfs type from widnows?
I've read on some forum but unfortunately didn't solve my problem, if anyone has any suggestion before I format the NTFS partition, I'd really appreciate it.
    best regards, maz

what I think it happened, is that after installing windows your partitions numbers got twisted a bit. What you have to do is to edit /etc/fstab, and check out your linux and swap partitions mounting entries, I believe you just have to change the number of /dev/sda[number] coresponding to your linux partition in fstab
If you can't solve it, post the output of
    fdisk -l
    and
    cat /etc/fstab

    Hi Tom,
I stepped back and removed the BMP180 entirely. The UU remained.
    Googling "raspberry pi UU" yielded
      https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues/581
    which referenced
      http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=31420&p=612513#p612513
    which referenced
      https://www.hifiberry.com/forums/topic/i2cdetect/
    which reccomended blacklisting snd_soc_wm8804
    Googling "what is snd_soc_wm8804" yielded
      http://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=81750
    which explained the whole matter
Anyhow the UU is gone. Only 77 is detected now. The mystery continues which I accept as an interesting challenge.

  • [SOLVED] startx - open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory

    Hej,
it was a long time since I've boot my Arch Linux. So I did all the updates. After rebooting my X was broken. He said that some Modules are missing: sis, vga and fbdev. So I've installed them with pacman. But now he sais the following when I try to start X with 'startx':
(EE) open dev/fb0: No such file or directory
So, anyone knows about what to do now?
And I'm also wondering if it was right, that Arch dont use a xorg.conf?
    Thanks

neb.anch:  xorg-server-1.4.2-2 with a similar card is working fine over here, try https://belug.de/~lutz/pub/v5535/sis_vg … .04.tar.gz and extract the sis_drv.so into your /usr/lib/xrog/modules/drivers
Although a poster who gave that link to a newer/unoffcial driver for the said SIS card is still strugling, but the driver worked fine for both my Debian and Archlinx.

  • Can't open '/dev/rdisk1' for writing (Resource busy)

I got a Macbook Pro, install win7 on boot camp. When I wanted to resinstall win7, I accidently click on Recover button and it deleted all my partitions and become one, which run Mac OS. I tried to recover my data partition. On google, I found some guy do it with 'pdisk' command. I followed steps but when I tried to use pdisk:
    sudo pdisk /dev/rdisk0
    and use command 'i':
i got a message: can't open '/dev/rdisk0' for writing (Resource busy)
So I borrowed a Mac, connected it with my Macbook through FireWire, and set my Mac in 'Target Disk Mode' and use pdisk again:
    sudo pdisk /dev/rdisk1
when i use command 'i', i still got the message:
can't open '/dev/rdisk1' for writing (Resource busy).
Can anyone know what is this problem? Do I need to extract my hard disk from my Mac?
    Please tell me about it!
    Thanks!

P/S: this is the link I read about recover partition: http://perrohunter.com/index.php/blog/2011/06/repair-a-mac-os-x-hfs-partition-ta ble

    Hi,
Thank you for youre answer, that was very useful. It helped me find the solution. The file I wanted to edit was downloaded with Inno Script Studio, which by installation changed the attributes of the file to none writable. So simple by setting a parameter
in this scripture I was given write access.

  • Cisco Security MARS 110 error - sfdisk:Cannot open /dev/sda for reading

HI when installing the MARS ver 6.0.1 we are getting this error sfdisk:Cannot open /dev/sda for reading, but found that this a bug for that ver BUG id : CSCso92379 - Cannot open /dev/sda for reading" error seen on installing Gen1 GC
So we tried installing the ver 5.3 now also getting the same error, pls let me know is this a hardware issue or a bug

It sounds like there may either be a problem with the RAID controller [configuration] or, though unlikely a hardware failure. You'd need to check the RAID controller BIOS to see if there's a hard disk drive problem or RAID configuration problem. Also check RAID controller is damaged as disks are not recognized at all.
Rebuild the Raid and reimage the appliances.

  • Startx: xf86OpenConsole: Cannot Open /dev/tty0 (Permission Denied)

running startx as normal user gives me the following error:
xf86OpenConsole: Cannot Open /dev/tty0 (Permission Denied)
it seems to run ok as root... but I obviously don't want to be doing that all the time. I guess that means its a permission issue, but what, where, when and how?
I searched the forums and found one article from last year with similar errors after an updated Xorg package, apparently that was fixed and it gave me no insight as to how to manually fix this error.
I'm just starting with Arch and its my first 'advanced' distro (been mostly running ubuntu up until now)... hence, I've never had to set up Xorg etc before.

    $ groups
    users
    $ls -l /dev/tty0
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 2007-10-17 08:54 /dev/tty0 -> vc/0
I've already tried adding the group 'users' to /dev/tty0 but when I restart it just goes back to 'root'
When I do add the group 'users', it seems to get past the problem with /dev/tty0 and it gives me this error:
xf86OpenConsole: Cannot open virtual console 7 (Permission Denied)

Upgraded memory from 4Gb to 8Gb on June 28th.
Tried to write on my external HD (previously written on a windows based PC) with no success.
Upon reccomendation from a Mac assistant, copied all my external HD contents into my Mac Hard drive.
Then formatted my external HD and copied back all my information to it.
deleted all the  information from my MacBook Pro HD.
Attempted to repeat the same operation with another external HD, but got a message saying there was not enough epace on the computer HD (even though I have a 750Gb Hard Drive.
Looked in the trash bin and there it was, all the information previously deleted..
Could not empty the trash bin, although I got a message asking me to safely delete all the information from the trash bin,
Could not get enough space released, after several attpempts the trash bin was finally emptied.
All happy getting acquainted with my new MacBook Pro. Two days later, got a gray screen and not able to start the computer.
Looking in to Mac support I found article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 and followed instructions to perform a safe boot:
    "Perform a Safe Boot
Simply performing the Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key. This performs a Safe Boot. Advanced tip: If you want to
see the status of a Safe Boot as it progresses, you can hold Shift-Command-V during start up (instead of just Shift).
Note: A Safe Boot takes longer than a typical start up because it includes a disk check and other operations.
The following is the script that appears on the screen upon safe boot. and halt after the last line.

I am in the middle of the Atlantick, stuck with a brand new, non working Apple MacBook Pro.

Reinstalling MacOS does NOT fix the problem for me.  I'm still searching a solution !

  • [SOLVED] Rad 7790+Catalyst = Error: unable to open display (null)

Radeon HD 7790 + Catalyst = Error: unable to open display (null)
    Greetings,
I've installed Arch 2 days ago(migrated from Fedora), but I'm still a newbie to linux, so please have patience.
I've bought AMD Radeon HD 7790 recently and decided that it's time to upgrade system, but since then I had only problems with it. No LiveCD I tried (Fedora 20, Mint)  worked properly in graphics mode, so I suspected problem in built-in drivers and moved to linux with text-only installation (Arch), so I could install drivers later.
I've followed wiki manual and installed catalyst, removed open source driver, added nomodeset parametr to GRUB etc. but I'm still stucked, because Xorg won't start(black screen and errors presented in Logs). Tried googling, but learned nothing except Radeon proprietary drivers are comparable to suicide.
    Versions:
    Kernel: 3-10.40-1-lts (catalyst_build_module sucessful)
    Catalyst: 14.4-10
    Xorg: 1.14.5-11

I've managed to solve this error:
(EE) AIGLX error: failed to open /usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so, error[/usr/X11R6/lib64/modules/dri/fglrx_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
There was missing library and few directories, which I found according to this http://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comme … _correctly at /usr/lib/dri, so I had to just symlink it. However, "unable to open display" error is still annoying me and Xorg is not working.
EDIT: Found EE about missing commands in new Xorg.0.log and installed xterm to solve this. Now I don't have entirely black screen after startx. There is white rectangular terminal and fglrxinfo seems to be all right as it detected my Radeon and OpenGL. Now I have to install some DE, but that's another story. Marking as [SOLVED] and once again thanks to clfarron4 for reply.

  • [SOLVED]New Build, no sound, Alsa unable to open slave

I've been happily using Arch on an old laptop I had lying around for 4/5  months, alongside ARM on my Raspberry Pi for a year or so. Being more than happy with it I decided to sell my 2011 i5 iMac, build a pc and hopefully learn something along the way. I mention this as it's my first build and the issue may be hardware realted, or more likely my assembly of the hardware, I've updated my sig to reflect the new parts.
The first decision I made two days ago upon putting the system together. I had two plugs, one for HD audio, another for Realtek audio, I went with the HD option. The other variable that is new to me is an audio option in the Gigabyte uefi/bios for audio which has options for enabled, disabled & auto - I've tried all three. I thought at first going with HD option may have meant sound only via hdmi, I'm using an old vga monitor, but after a little reading it seems the HD option should work with the standard audio out's on the motherboard & case too.
I've got a 3.5mm jack plugged into the line out on the back of the motherboard going to a phono connection on my stereo, I've also tried the headphone out on the front of the case, Zalman Z9.
    I've installed alsa-plugins and alsa-utils. Upon running speaker-test, or speaker-test -c 2 I'm getting:
    speaker-test -c 2
    speaker-test 1.0.27.2
    Playback device is default
    Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 2 channels

The above is all without any .asoundrc in my home directory or anything in /etc.modprobe.d/*.conf
From the wiki I've tried putting
    options snd slots=snd_mia,snd_hda_intel
    options snd_mia index=0
    options snd_hda_intel index=1
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, and tried reversing the 1 and 0, both 0's, both 1's to no avail.
I've tried a few variations in .asoundrc based on the wiki example with no luck.
I'm lost, this is the first time I've had sound issues with linux and I'm really not sure if it's rooted in the hardware, my first attempt at building a pc or a simple alsa config issue.
Googling for unable to open slave in alsa seems to bring up mainly conflicting programm issues whic I don't think is my issue as I have no sound at all.
    *edit*
perhaps this should be in newbie corner? my linux sound knowledge is definitely newbie status.

Solved, not sure where I was going wrong in my initial attempts but a simple .asoundrc has my speakers singing. Could have sworn this was tried to death in the first half hour or so, oh well.
On the plus side I spent my lunch hour today getting a rough idea of sound on linux and alsa preparing for a fight with my new build, ten minutes after booting up the new machine on my return home & all is well.

  • Help: upon safe boot, got following message: BootCacheControl: Unable to open /Var/db/BootCache.playlist:2 No such file or directory

Mac Book Pro, late 2011. Purchased in a department store in Mexico.
Was running ok for several days after I purchased it.
Had some software installed and memory upgraded from 4 to 8Gb.
Suddenly at start up, got a gray screen with a spinning wheel and never boot.
Followed advise from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570 and performed a safe boot. (hold Shift-Command-V during startup instead of just Shift).
The boot sequence starts then stops and nothing happens. these are the last lines of the boot sequence.

Any ideas, solutions, suggestions are welcomed.

Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), launch Disk Utility, select your startup volume, and run Repair Permissions. Then reboot as usual.

  • Recipients are unable to open my attachments.

    Hi all,
First time posting so please excuse any misused terminology and the like.  I'm having trouble with Mac Mail.  I use iCloud mail for my service and I have my iCloud account connected to "Mail" on my iMac.  I also have a Hotmail account connected to Mail that I occasionally use.
I recently tried to send a PDF to a Windows user using my iCloud account but they were unable to open the attachment.  They could view the message fine and the attachment showed up but they were getting an error when they tried to open it.  They also tried to save the attachment to their computer and then open it with no luck.  When I took a look at the sent e-mail I was also unable to open the PDF.  I was getting an error that read:
"Adobe Reader could not open 'Order Receipt.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an e-mail attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."
So I tried again with another file type, this time it was a tiff image with similar issues.  Still unable to open the file getting a different error message.  I then tried using my Hotmail address as the sending e-mail account, still with no luck.  I then was forced to use the Hotmail web site to send the mail and that worked fine, much to my chagrin.  I then tried to send it via the web based version of iCloud which didn't seem to work from my end at first, I was unable to open the file by clicking on it, still receiving the same error message mentioned above but when I saved it to my downloads folder I was able to open it up clicking on the file from my downloads stack on the dock.  Once it opened up this way I was also able to open it up by clicking on the file in the e-mail.
Upon further investigation, I noticed I was unable to open any attachments to an e-mail as soon as I attached them.  When I attach a file by clicking and dragging the file into the e-mail, the icon shows up in the mail, which is strange because normally the attachments show up embedded in the e-mail, but when I click on them I get the error message and the file size for the attachment is 0KB.  If I try to attach something using the paperclip icon at the top of the mail message a window opens up where I can select the file but when I select it and click "Choose File" the file selection window closes but nothing seems to have attached to the e-mail.
I've been researching this for a few days now and I've tried rebuilding my mailbox, to no avail.
Sorry if this is a little wordy but from what I've seen in forums, the more information you give on what you've done, the better.
    Any clue what's going on?
    Thanks in advance!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that. No typing is involved in this step.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    { sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|org\.(amav|apac|cups|isc|ntp|postf|x)/{print $3}'; sudo defaults read com.apple.loginwindow LoginHook; sudo crontab -l; } 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    { launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'; crontab -l 2> /dev/null; } | open -f -a TextEdit
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/{la,mach}* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts .la* 2> /dev/null | open -f -a TextEdit
Important: If you formerly synchronized with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' | open -f -a TextEdit
Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.
